Week 7 [26.11-2.12.18] Dark Matter, We’ve almost got it !

Have you ever wondered about dark matter ? Everyone who likes such unusual topics thought about it.

Dark Matter is theoretically matter non-emitting and non-reflective electromagnetic radiation.
Yes, I wrote „theoretically” because it’s existence is not confirmed and scientists only guess just by exerted gravity effects.

Please, take a look at this video and answer a few questions.

1. Do you think that in the near future people will fully understand what black matter is and how to use it ?

2. Do you think that black matter can be a danger for humanity ?

Comments

Why is the first thing we have to think about when discovering something -- that whether this could be a threat to humanity? Like, seriously, what lays behind such approach? Do we already assume that anything humans do is dangerous? :)

If Dark Matter will appear to be a powerful fuel source, then it could possibly solve all that petrol producing-environmental pollutioning thing. Unfortunantley, killing Teslas as well, since power plants do pollute Earth as well.

Black matter is such a complicated thing that our knowledge now is not enough to confirm that’s safe or not.

I agree with you that Black Matter can become a revolution but at this point we can’t say anything more about it.
In my opinion understanding black matter is mostly matter of time. Sooner or later scientist and engineers will develop proper theories and conduct proper experiments. Of course, what they will find is completely different thing. As it was said dark matter is just theory which explains some specific movements of celestial bodies and issues with gravity field. There may be different reason why it is happening.
There is a chance that dark matter may be “danger” for humanity. For example, antimatter, which is already discovered is extremely “lethal” because it annihilates with normal matter and produces enormous amount of energy. If I remember correctly, annihilation of 1 kg of antimatter is equivalent to 50 megaton atomic bomb. Therefore, if dark matter has similar traits, it could be dangerous for us.
I don't think that in near future we will have sufficient technology to fully understand what black matter is. I hope that scientists will at least discover something new what will satisfy people hunger for breakthrough findings. I hope black matter won't be a danger for humanity, but it will occur to be a handy source of energy. I also think that it is highly probable that specialists who are using Large Hadron Collider will perform an experiment in which the whole earth will be destroyed.

As long as we do not understand what black matter is, it is a threat for us. I think that we do not have sufficient technology to understand it yet, but I hope it's a matter of time when the scientists will understand what it is and how we can use it. Currently, we know that it's a powerfull fuel source that can resolve many problems on earth.

I believe we will understand what black matter is, but not soon. It's a complicated thing, and so far many brilliant people failed to try to understand what it is. However, I think that at the point when we will fully understand what it is and how we can use it our world will change dramatically. I hope we will find a way to convert it to the energy or fuel for our technology. The first company which will examine an idea how to do it will be worth billions of dollars. That's the first scenario I can see.
The second one is not so positive for us as humanity. I'm afraid that people might figure out a way of how to make weapons out of it. Discovering it might be a time when our world will also change dramatically but in a wrong way — the company who will find it might entitle itself as a new world ruler (since it will become the most powerful company in the world, able to annihilate the whole humankind).

For sure there is a long way before we will find a use of dark matter. So I hope in this case law will not get behind and we won't annihilate ourselves.

This point scares me.... what can happen when people will want to use the black matter.

Is it not terrifying that if we not know black matter we can destroy our planet while trying to learn it properties ?!
Unknown said…
When in your opinion we discover the properties of black matter and learn how to use them ?!

It is nice that you are looking at it realistically that you are considering two sides of the coin. You never know how it will go :( But we definitely have to try !!!
I remember, when I was a child and a LHC was something totally new and strange for the common man. People was saying the LHC can produce the "black hole" and we all will die :) Not bad, yeap!

I can't assume, we are close or not, but I think the progress of AI will accelerate this process. In my mind, black matter is a key for understanding the whole universe, and when I see what is happening in the world now, I am sure that we are definitely not ready to discover more about it.

Space is a dangerous thing for us, I do not think that black matter is safer.
In past I've heard it's not like Dark Matter really exists as such - it's just a theoretical construct which can explain what's going on around us in the universe. But the truth is, as stated in the video, we don't really know what we will find if we do enough of those experiments. So Dark Matter as such might not even exist. We just don't know how to explain the universe.
You need to remember that physics really creates just models of the universe. It doesn't explain what exactly is going on, but it finds some kind of mathematical constructs which can explain what we observe. So once we have enough observations, we can either verify if our model is still working or if we should change it. It's like Newton's mechanics which was enough to explain some things but then was replaced by Einstein's theories. Now we have even more complicated models like string theory and we still don't know if this one is a good model.
I think at some point we'll gather enough observation to decipher what Dark Matter actually is or can be. And if it will be a danger to us entirely depends how we will decide to use it. The same as with radioactive energy - we can use it for good or we can just blow stuff up.

If we have ever been able to understand such important matters,

It is fascinating and at the same time frightening how much black matter can bring to our lives. It can revolutionize us or destroy the world.

Unfortunately, I have not heard anything about him.His perseverance and his ability to do this were very interesting for me.
Yes, When I travel to a country or city near the sea , I travel a short sailing trip by boat too.I really enjoy to sailing by boat.
I do not like long-term sea trips; perhaps the tediousness and uniformity of the sea level make me avoid a long journey of the sea. Another reason I might miss a trip like this one is that there are problems like traveling during a trip or a storm while traveling.
I think that it is possible. Just take a look how we've developed for the last 50 years. I'm really happy to be alive in times when there was no internet and computers and look now. By that I mean that's difficult to imagine what will be in the next 50 years. It's hard to explain how we can use it just because we still don't know exactly what it is. I'm sure it will be something cool.
Almost everything can be dangerous in human's hands. Even the experiences for cheep energy as nuclear energy we conducted in order to help people to have affordable electricity. And that this energy was used as weapons of mass destruction. That is my point.

Have you definitely watched my video?

I really like your perspective on this matter. I will fully agree with you.
In my opinion dark matter is still a topic where we have too many unknown. If something unexpected(I have no idea what it should be) happen, then we could talk about that we are close to discover what dark matter really is. I’m sure that in the future we will start using it for a lot of different things in a lot of different industries, but it’s still a long way to that point.
Real question is, what exactly dark matter is? We can’t say it can be dangerous if we don’t know what we are facing. But to be honest, we all know that it can be extremely powerful and personally, I think it will be dangerous. We need years to discover it and a lot more to learn how to control this power.

I don’t think that the majority of the society will understand in the future what black matter is. For sure a lot of people will be more in the subject. We move forward with technology from year to year, maybe someday each of us will have black matter at home, who knows. At the moment, the creation of black matter is extremely difficult, so we can only dream.
I do not see what could be dangerous here. People at the beginning may be afraid of such technology, so they will stay away from it. I think it can be a big step forward if we learn to produce black matter on an ongoing basis.
Do you think that it can use it?
In the future, scientists will understand exactly what black matter is and how to use it
Do you think that black matter can be danger for humanity?
Each new discovery involves a certain risk if humanity uses it in the right direction or destroy itself.

I think that in near future it is not possible but one day in the future it will be achieved. Basically I think that there is no limits in human recognition of the world, but nowadays some things may seem impossible to discover.
Of course it could be dangerous if will be used by bad people. Atomic bombs are great example of since used in bad way, so we can only hope that this time it will be used only by great, good people.
No, I don’t think that in the near future people will fully understand what black matter is and especially how it can be used. Scientists haven’t fully understood the whole picture of regular matter yet.

I think black matter will have the same impact on humanity that regular matter has. It will be beneficial in the right hands and dangerous in the wrong hands.

I absolutely love every topic related to science. So I’ve heard and read about dark matter a lot. Basically, it’s something that we can’t yet prove to exist, but we already see its effect on our reality. Scientists calculated all the matter we can observe and detect in different areas of the universe and noticed that something is not right. Observable matter cannot produce so much gravity. There is something else holding stuff together. Dark matter. It cannot be detected by absolutely any technology that we have right now. But even though we can’t see it, dark matter, most likely, make up approximately 80% of all the universe.
I really hope that research’s will continue to explore this mysterious part of our reality. Maybe one day, we will finally reach the point, when we discover its real purpose. Being able to understand or even manipulate dark matter will surely open new unbelievable horizons. I don’t think that dark matter can be considered as a danger for humanity. Of course, as any new tool, it could be used to harm others but it’s definitely not a threat by its nature.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.

Week 4 [06-12.11.2017] This is what happens when you reply to spam email.

James Veitch is a British comedian. In today’s Ted Talk James with characteristic for himself a sense of humor shows how he deals with spam emails and why responding to junk messages may be sometimes dangerous. Questions: What do you think about James’s  way of dealing with spam? Why are junk messages legal, even though it sometimes may be a fraud? Dou you have a problem with spam? How do you deal with with it?
