Week 6 [15.04 – 28.04.2019] HUMAN - a grand documentary about what makes us human

The huge film that collected the stories of 2 thousand people from 60 countries of the world may not answer the question “What makes us human?”, But is the starting point for a dialogue on this topic. HUMAN was the first movie to premiere at the UN General Assembly, where more than a thousand people watched it. On the day of the premiere, Google launched the film on six YouTube channels with subtitles in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian. A few years ago, the helicopter of an artist and film producer Yann Arthus-Bertrand (Yann Arthus-Bertrand) crashed in a rural area of Mali. While the repair was going on, Yann spent a day talking to a local farmer about hopes, doubts and values, studying the main issues that determine his interlocutor's life. “For the first time, I truly learned the life and experiences of another person,” recalls Artus-Bertrand. Thus, the idea of the film HUMAN appeared, the creation of which was carried out by ...

Week 6 [15.04 – 28.04.2019] Perception traps: how the senses distort reality

Why do we not hear what is in reality Sometimes we hear something completely different from what we are told. Our vision and hearing work in pairs, and, if the visual information contradicts the sound, the brain prefers the one that gets through the eyes. There is one interesting illusion that cannot be overcome even if you know what the matter is. This is t he MakGurk effect - the phenomenon of perception, which proves the relation between hearing and vision. In the video, the man pronounces the same “ba” sound, but first you see how the lips move correctly - precisely , to pronounce “ba”. And then the picture changes as if the man says “fa,” and you really start to hear that sound. However, he himself does not change. Try to close your eyes and see for yourself. This works not only with individual sounds, but also with words. Such illusions can lead to quarrels and misunderstandings, and even to more terrible consequences. For example, if you mix up the s...

Week 6 [15.04 – 28.04.2019] Genetic-engineering

People always wanted to be healthy and beautiful. Only the way they wanted to do it changed. Our ancestors were sought favor from supernatural powers, they practiced magic. They checked the healing properties of plants and minerals. Today, we no longer need the help of secret powers. After all, we have science and a full arsenal of tools, including those that allow us to play God, that our ancestors were could only pray for. Along with the rapid progress of scientific development, we are increasingly begin to wonder whether we are not yet too immature for some inventions. Laboratory genetic modifications of organisms from the pages of fantastic literature have entered the first pages of popular scientific magazines. Is not it too early? https://www.wur.nl/en/Dossiers/file/Genetic-modification-1.htm Genes modifications raise a lot of controversies. It is mainly about ethical differences in the approach of different countries. Changing genes allows some benefits, ...

All you need is to download one of   free applications for 3D modeling and you can begin to realize your ideas. Of course, do not worry that you will not be able to do anything in the application. If someone wants to be able to print in many colors, the ability to change a 3d printer in a CNC or a laser, I recommend ZMorph printer. Unfortunately, its pri...

Week 6 [15-28.04.2019] Millenials in the Workplace

I have always been detached from people who provide coaching services. However, when a few years ago I came across a case of content that Simon Sinek offers, my perception has changed a bit. The material I present below is one of my favorite. He addresses one of the frequently heard problems - Generation Y, or colloquially called Millennials.     What are your thoughts about the video you have just watched? What is your opinion about Simon and his thoughts? Do you agree with Simon’s opinion about millenials constant need to have an „impact” on world? Is the problem of instant gratification and technology, which has an increasing impact on our world, is visible to you? Is there any way to change this situation? Are you familiar with recordings or books similar to the video’s topic, that you would like to share with us?
