Ways to make a conversation with anyone Confidence is a strong and impactful word nowadays. Having a real struggle with yourself is the most difficult thing for everybody. Are you confident enough to make a conversation with a stranger? Malavika Varadan, challenges this societal norm, by presenting 7 ways to make conversation with anyone. 1.  Are you a “confident enough” person? 2.  What do you think about introverts? 3.  Write down here at least 3 facts you like the most in her speech.

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] - Who cooks better, men or women?

Who cooks better, men or women? Who cooks better, men or women? We all know that it is such a hilarious question, but lets take a look on statistics. As you can see, women are better in every factor, but every statistics does not take into account the fact, that only 4% of men are professional cooks.  I would mention 3 facts, why men are better in cooking than women: Every 3rd man feeling perfectionism while cooking It does not mean that they are following a recipe step by step, number by number. I would say, men pay a huge attention to details, take it as a hobby rather than an obligation. Men love challenges This challenging spirit and their ego can never be brought down at any cost. Men compare the kitchen to sports and the chef to a coach. One of the main reasons why men are better cooks than women is because they make it a point to challenge their wife in kitchen. Through the means of a challenge, the determination makes the food tast

Is it important for you to know whether the Earth is flat or round? What does it mean to you?

Week 4 [06.11-12.11] - The quantum computers

Since the 1960s the power of computers has kept growing exponentially which made our computers smaller and faster at the same time.Computer parts are approaching the size of an atom that’s why this process is about to meet its physical limits. In classical computing, a single piece of information is a bit. It c a n exist in either state 1 or 0.Quantum computers use qubits , which can also be set to one of two values: 1 or 0.But qubits have their unique property that sounds like " A qubit could be at any proportion of 0 and 1 at once”. This is called the superposition. But as soon as you want to get its value ,  the qubit has to decide to be either „0” or „1”. This means that while being unobserved the qubit is in the superposition of probabilities for 0 and 1 and you can’t predict which it will be but when you want to retrieve its value, qubit should collapse into 1 or 0. For example, 5 classical bits can be in 1 of 2 5 possible states at a time while five qu

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] My trip to Lviv

I want to share with you some informations about this city because I was there few days ago and it made a huge impression on me. It was my first time there and it was even my first time in the Ukraine. I hope that you enjoy this presentation and it encourage you to visit this colourful city. I don't want to describe historical facts about this city because you can read it on the wikipedia. I have to say very basic informations about this city before I start sharing with you some pictures and stories from my travel. Lwów is the largest city in western Ukraine and also is one of the main cultural centres of this country. For my point of view it is a very good place to make a fun there. In this city we have a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants designed with very fresh ideas and it is pleasure to try their food or drinks. For four days I was in ten or even more places and always I got tasty, fresh meals and good beers and their special cherry liqueur which was hard to b

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] How language shapes the way we think

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] How language shapes the way we think Today I want to share with you this really interesting speech made by the Lera Boroditsky who is a cognitive scientist and professor known for her research in the fields of language and cognition. She shared with us interesting opinions about how our language has influance for our nature and abilities. I have to admit that my first impression about this topic was feel that her opinions are a bit far-fetched but when I finished watching this speech I realized that her statements can have a sense. She pointed example of Aboriginal community in Australia that uses that uses cardinal directions istead of left and right as we do. Because of this language difference they can easilly point their position any time which probalby will be a problem for most of us without using the GPS. The next example was fact that in our languages we have words which describes numbers which let us count objects and "opens up the whole worl

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] Autonomous cars are among us. But are their decisions autonomous?

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] Autonomous cars are among us. But are their decisions autonomous? Some time ago autonomous cars were something that was even hard to imagine. Nowadays autonomous cars are real and each of us can have one (of course if you have enough $$$) These cars have a lot of CPUs, sensors, different algorithms etc. As we can see it’s possible to program them to deal with casual situations, even difficult ones. But there seems to be tough edge case to consider . Each of us sometimes has to choose the lesser of two evils. Imagine that you are driving and an other car in front of you brakes hard.   It’s obvious that you will try to avoid hitting him but on your left side you have a car with a passenger without seatbelts fastened and on your right side you see a motorcyclist without a helmet. What to do?! There are a lot of social dilemmas like this. Should your own car do everything to protect you or maybe it should also think about others?! Watch this short vi

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] ‘I have no time!’ – how not to waste your time and manage it in a better way.

Week 4 [16.04-22.04.2018] ‘I have no time!’ – how not to waste your time and manage it in a better way. Firstly let’s think for a while what the time exactly is? We have to leave aside for a moment scientific definitions . Time is something we deal with every day and something that everyone thinks they understand. That’s because there is no one simple and satisfactory definition of time. In my article, I want to write about time as something that is priceless nowadays and seems to pass by faster and faster. People have a lot of things to do and the world is giving us so many opportunities that each of us is starting to regret that a day has only 24 hours. That’s why time management has become so important and   people developed many techniques to help organise it. Establish prioritized goals If we don’t have goals we often try to chase after whatever. We get easily distracted. A good idea is to set yearly, monthly, weekly or daily goals.   Then you have to add import
