Week 8: Condition of slums in India

Condition of Slums in India   India is one of the fastest developing countries with many metropolitan cities(e.g. Delhi,Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, etc..).  The challenges faced by individuals residing in India's urban areas have become a major concern for the government. In many urban areas, slums are considered to be the biggest problem; in particular, problems related to insufficient unhygienic sanitation and drinking water facilities.       People migrating from the villages, attracted by the glamour of town life ;come to the town with no roof over their heads,no habitation to keep them indoor. This forces incoming migrants, who make up the majority of the population of the city, to seek housing in informal settlements with extremely poor living conditions in low-cost, poorly designed shanties and tenements.   I have found a short video for you about one of the slum in Mumbai, It will take only 2 minutes must watch:   Sources: https://www.slideshare.net/mobile/sunita_411/slum

Week 8 [14-20.12.20] Artificial or real Christmas tree - which one to choose for Christmas?

Artificial or real Christmas tree - which one to choose for Christmas?  Christmas is coming and You are probably wondering which one is the better choice for a Christmas tree. I will try to inform you about the advantages and disadvantages of both types of Christmas tree.  Artificial Christmas Tree      Some people may think that it’s ecological choice. Unfortunately, it is not, although it might seem otherwise, since by buying such a tree we do not destroy forests. But an artificial Christmas tree is generally made of plastic and, when it is damaged, it cannot be recycled. When burned, it will produce poisonous compounds, thrown into garbage will decompose in the landfill for hundreds of years. We already know the ecological aspect.      However, there are many advantages to artificial Christmas trees. One of them is its durability - it will not lose needles and it can serve us for many years. We don't have to worry about the stand and watering it. Another one is its regular shap

Week 8 [14-20.12.20] Breaking speed record - SSC Tuatara

On October 10, 2020, SSC North america announced that their SSC Tuatara broke the car speed record by accelerating to 532 km / h. Unfortunately, information began to appear that the record may be falsified. It all started with YouTuber Shmee150 who provided information that did not match the official information provided by the SSC. Then more people began to reveal additional information.   The place for breaking the record is the same stretch of road on which Koenigsegg had beaten the speed record 3 years earlier with the Agera RS car, reaching 447 km/h. This makes it possible to compare both runs. Both runs started at the same place. Along the roads there are 3 characteristic elements on which you can base your measurement on the basis of recordings. With such data, you can start counting on your own. Google maps informs that there is 1.81 km between one and the other landmark. There are 2.28 km between the next two. Our analysis begins here. Watching the recording of the SSC T

Week 8 [14 - 21.12.20] Do you eat your supplements?

Do you eat your supplements? The New Year is very close and one of maybe the scariest and strangest years of our life is  finally coming to an end. The global pandemic and lockdowns have influenced us in many different  ways, however, not always negative. Part of society decided to spend the lockdown focusing on  realizing all the new year’s resolutions that they hadn’t fulfilled for the past years. Even if you were  not one of them, the New Year is in 2 weeks, so what about the  “new year, new me” rule? With the beginning of each year, everyone wants to start eating healthy, going to the gym and taking  care of themselves. The first two weeks of January are probably the most busy for all the gyms.  Unfortunately, not everyone does it really for themselves. Most people do it because being fit and  hashtagging #NewYearNewMe on instagram is very popular and brings you a lot of likes. This is  why living healthy nowadays is more associated with modern trends and looks than with just hon

Week 8 [14 - 21.12.20] The Models

Whether we are interested in it or not, the modeling industry undeniably influences our everyday lives.  Starting with what we see on TV or in magazines, ending with sizing in clothing stores. Women compare  their bodies to the ones the fashion world presents as perfect. They convince themselves that if they are  as skinny as the models in the magazines they will also be as happy as the models look in the posed  pictures. However, are models really as happy as the modeling industry wants us to think? Here is one of the short episodes from Vogue’s documentary-series “The Models”. It shows a few models  telling their stories about the modeling industry. They share how it has influenced their body image,  caused eating-disorders and put pressure to lose weight.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKd38G338Qw   QUESTIONS: What is your opinion about a model's job? Is it such a dream come true? Do you think that models should be aware of what kind of industry they are going to and accept

Week 8 [14-21.12.20] How do animals navigate?

We know that a lot of animal species go on epic migrations, like large birds from Europe to countries in Africa and penguins from Antarctica’s coast to its inland. The question arises however how animals know which way to go? They don't use advanced technology as us, humans do and yet they always tend to reach their destination. One of the mechanisms explaining this is magnetism, which enables them to feel the earth's magnetosphere enabling them to go to any direction of the world like south, west, east or north. The video explains in detail how it's possible. Can you name a species of animals that migrates periodically? Would you like to have a cellular magnet that would enable you to navigate more easily? Do you think that some animals could possess some superpowers that we are unaware of?

Week 8 [14-21.12.20] Unusual phenomena seen in the sky

A spectacular sunset or sunrise is something that can amaze us but it's certainly not the only great thing that can be admired. In this short article, I'll take a look at a few interesting phenomena visible when looking up from Earth. 1. Aurora   Source:https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d0/Virmalised_18.03.15_%284%29.jpg/1024px-Virmalised_18.03.15_%284%29.jpg   It's probably one of the best-known phenomena, but quite hard to experience for most people since it can be observed only at a relatively smallpart of the earth. Its alternative name - the polar lights suggest that it can be seen in high-latitude regions surrounding the earth's southern and northern poles. It is caused by solar winds that disturb the earth's magnetosphere. In effect, the particles in the solar wind and magnetospheric plasma change their trajectoriescausing ionization. The last term means that the molecule loses or gains new electrons, in effect acquiring a negative or pos

Week 8: How coronavirus is ushering in a new era of concerts

As we know music industry was also affected by COVID-19, mostly because of cancellation all of the live shows, music festivals and concerts. Artists, to make it through this hard time, are forced to come up with new ideas, how to perform for their audience despite of restrictions. Watch the short film below to know new methods of performing. 1.        Do you find making money on online concerts ethical? 2.        Would you buy ticket on such online concert? If so, which artist would you want to see online? If no, why? 3.        How do you think music industry will be evolving by time? Do you think that online concerts will eventually crowd live concerts out? source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziPivkN-yaA&ab_channel=WallStreetJournal

Week 8: No music studio needed. How to start your journey with music production?

https://www.millennialmind.co/top-daw-for-music-production-2019/ It is nothing new that you can become a popular musician without music degree. For example famous artists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Kurt Cobain or even Louis Armstrong achieved great success, and they were all self-taught. But there was one thing they had to do to record their hits. They were forced to rent a professional music studio.  We can all agree that living in the 21 st century makes our lives simpler in many areas (mostly thanks to technological progress) and it also concerns music production. Nowadays everyone is able to create their own music studio in their room and become a “bedroom producer” without having a lot of analog devices and knowledge how to use them. All you need is willingness, your laptop/pc/tablet or even smartphone, speakers or headphones and Internet connection. There are a lot of applications called DAW’s (Digital Audio Workstation) that allows you to create your own music fro

The environment we live in is conducive to the development of cancer, the most common cause is smoking, but also obesity and air pollution. However, this film will show us what should be limited in order to be able to enjoy a long life. Questions: 1. Do you and your family regular health check? 2.Do you think the information at the end of the video will help you to manage your habits in the right way to avoid cancer in the future? Week 8 [14-21.12.20] What it is a sport shooting?

Sport shooting is a sport that not everyone knows about. Not spectacular, even boring according to some. However, everyone who has had contact with this sport knows about its positive effects on people. Starting from the basics, sport shooting is a discipline that involves shooting at a target at a distance of 10m, 25m, 50m and sometimes 300m. Depending on the weapon we choose, we shoot with a rifle or a pistol. Air pistol target, 10m     One of the competition I would like to discuss today is an air pistol, 10m. Each competitor has a target during the competition to which he can fire any number of non-judged shots during the first 15 minutes, then the competition begins with 60 competition shots. Competition has 75 minutes to do so, it is quite long exercice that requires a lot of endurance training, but also mental preparation. Not all of us can be 110% focused for such a long time. This is what we need to get the perfect shot. The world record is 594 points out of 600 possible.
