Week 2 [02-08.11.20] How Green Wallpaper Killed Hundreds Of Victorians?

I would like to share with you one of my favourite series of documentaries. It is called “The Hiden Killers” and it was produced by the BBC. The host of the series, Dr Suzannah Lipscomb, shows us the deadly everyday objects of the past. I've selected an episode for you guys about the Victorian Era. It was a time of progress and invention that had many dark secrets. In this episode, we can learn more about the usage of arsenic. Arsenic has been a known poison since the first century AD. There is even a theory that Napoleon Bonaparte was poisoned by it. Do you think we have a hidden killer of our time? What could it be? Do you like the aesthetics of the Victorian interior? If not, what interior aesthetics suits you? Do you know any story about a historical figure who was poisoned?

Week 2 [02-08.11] Money in sports

Success of each sportsman or sportswoman gives the person not only individual achievements but also money. The more popular the sport is, the more is on the table. It is not only about price-money as people call how much you win in a tournament or a league. Nowadays ads campaigns play much bigger role than they did before. So how much do most popular sportspeople earn? The more recognizable you are, the more you can get. Of course the more popular sports discipline is the more sportsperson can earn from endorsing some brand. That is why footballers or basketball players earn so much money. The average monthly salary in the most popular league in the World, English Premier League, is 240 thousand pounds. Highest paid player in the league, which is David de Gea - player of Manchester United, earns 1,5 million pounds a month. And this is what players get only from clubs. To know the total earning of best players we need to add their earning from ads campaigns. Most of popular footballers

Week 2 [02-08.11] The election in Belarus

On August 9 th 2020 presidential elections took place in Belarus. There were five candidates. Swietłana Cichanouska and Aleksandr Łukaszenka were the main opponents. Łukaszenka was in power at that time for above 20 years. Source: https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaksandr_%C5%81ukaszenka There were some strikes at the time of each election because of suspicion of falsifying the results. Unfortunately, walkouts never succeeded but Łukaszenka punished these acts really cruelly. This year nothing has changed and the sad story happened again. Examinations, arrests and the lack of free media are just a few examples of undemocratic behaviour due to the tension related to the elections. Siarhiej Cichanouski, who is a famous YouTuber , declared his candidacy in the presidential elections. A few days later he was arrested and his wife, Swietłana Cichanouska, decided to replace him in the elections. Source: https://www.pap.pl/aktualnosci/news%2C706899%2Ccichanouska-na-bialorusi-nikt-

Week 2 [02-08.11] Is it too late to stop climate change?

Every day we pollute our planet further and not many seem to care about the  consequences of such behavior. Ironically the pandemic of COVID-19 assisted us for some time, as during the total lockdown the emission of CO2 and other gases drastically drop. Sadly, even this wasn't nearly enough to prevent the changing environment. Some say climate changes every few centuries, and they are partially right, but this time it is happening extremely fast for the natural process. The civilization serves it by eradicating hundreds of wildlife alongside. There is no happy end to this. We either focus on not producing so much gas and the other toxic factor or the next generation won't be able to breathe fully. Let's now watch this medium length video to learn more about this or if we even stand a chance of this demon we created. Few questions after watching the video: 1. Do you believe in climate change or think this is all a big false? 2. Do you think it is possible for Poland to cre
