Week 5: Do you want to paint your body?

Body piercing, tattooing and hair panting into rainbow colors are getting more and more popular, among young people. Honestly, the more I see the more I am convinced I would never do any of these things to my own body. Probably  I would never decide on any of these. Let’s focus on tattoos. At first blush, getting one doesn’t seem such a bad idea. This “ornament” lets people stand out and feel unique in a crowd. Sometimes a tattoo is supposed to pay homage to someone special in our life or to remind you about some special moment. Unfortunately, most people just want to have “something pretty” or “something to show” on their arm or another part of body. The problems appear later on. When people turn into their 50’s they suddenly realize that their skin is not as smooth as it used to be. A colorful butterfly on the back is no longer as charming as it used to be and a naked blond girl with big breasts on a man’s arm suddenly turns out to be just a ridiculous idea. Getting bored with

Week 5: WAYS OF EXAMINING STUDENTS

Ever since people started to appreciate the meaning of higher education, students worst dreams have been exams. Teachers always say that we shouldn’t panic so much but take things easy before an exam, but I perfectly understand such a fearful reaction. Some weeks ago I was talking with my younger cousin and she told me about her view about ways of examination. To begin with, exams are not entirely fair, it is impossible to check the entire knowledge during an exam. It is usually a matter of coincidence which questions/topics students get in an exam. Moreover, deliberately or not, the examiners’ assessment of a student’s performance may be distorted for example because of their personal motives or current well-being. Also such factors as simple being under the weather on the day of an exam may affect the result.             What is more, students work might be also evaluated by other, maybe in more effective ways. For example, preparing a project in groups and presenti

Week 5 (3-9 November) Interesting ways to be „green”.

Interesting ways to be „green”. Being “Green” is sometimes complicated, inconvenient and just an extra hassle? I would like to present some chosen products of the “green” technology that themselves may actually be proofs of the contrary. Let's start with a solar powered keyboard. Have you ever thought "well, it'd be cool having a cordless keyboard because I dislike cords, but more so I dislike all of these weaknesses of cordless devices, like having to replace batteries or plug multiple usb receivers so it's not worth it for me after all". Here comes this and it saves the day in a very nice fashion: Source: http://cdn.ubergizmo.com/photos/2010/10/logitech-k750-solar.jpg A 7mm thin, solar powered wireless keyboard with a battery that lasts for 3 months in total darkness - though your monitor's light is enough to start charging it so technically the batteries never die unless you live in a cave with no light and no monitor. It also comes with an un

Week 5 (3-9 November) Smartwatch: The wearable computer

Smartwatch : The wearable computer One of the most trendy new technology gadgets and a new implementation of the 90s Hollywood movie dreams is the Smartwatch. These days these little devices are equipped with low powered dual core processors and up to 512mb of RAM memory.. this is how fast technology evolves! The first device that had a common interface to connect with computers was the Seiko RC-1000 Wrist Terminal.. that came out in 1984. It was compatible with most of the popular PCs of that time. The functionality was extremely limited, however, since it only enabled scheduling, memos, synchronized world time and had a four-function calculator app. Source: http://i10.tinypic.com/82dkivm.jpg It wasn’t too successful, so much that after its release nothing similar entered the marke

Week 5 (3-11 November) : Professional sport – a way to being disabled

Nowadays everyone speaks about excercising . Even my last presentation on  konwersatorium1-ms-pjwstk.blogspot.com was about sport routine. But recently I have had this whole new perspective on performing sport mainly because of my sister. She is a professional sportswoman, she does kitesurfing on a daily basis. When she is in Warsaw she trains at the gym, when she is abroad she trains kitesurfing. So she excersises almost every day . Logically she was supposed to be disgustingly healthy . On one hand she was. Her condition was excellent, she was super strong and stretched. But at some point she started to have injures almost all the time. One time it was her hip . It fell out from the pelvis during some evolutions in the air. She had to had her leg operated and then she was supposed to go to a rehabilitation center. When she recovered she started to kitesurf again. After several months she hurt her arm and everything started all over again. This situation happened  a few times.

Week 5 (3-9 November) : YOUTUBERS

I guess you’ve hear about them. They make all sorts of videos, which are available at youtube.com .  Why are they getting more and more popular among the crowds? Sometimes it’s really surprising how popular. I am not making that up, just check out how many subscribes and views they have. Hundreds, thousands, sometimes even millions. First there were bloggers, then bloggers started to use YouTube. They used to talk about random things in front of their cameras. From travelling, talking about beauty, fashion, books, live music to recording their private life  putting it out there for everyone to see. Such youtubers are called vloggers. If they have many subscribes and views YouTube starts to pay them. I have to admit that I watch some of them. For me it’s like a better version of TV. And I don’t even have to pay for it because I am already paying for the access to the Internet anyway. It’s convenient. My favorite things to watch on youtube are connected with fashion, beauty, travell
