Week 8 (30.11 - 06.12) Dumb Ways To Die 2

If the first article I let you down as you counted that it would   contain the list of dump ways to die – here you go, an article about top 3 (in my humble opinion) dumbest ways to die. All of them are the included in the Darwin Award’s ranking. But to start, I want to tell you who was Darwin and why is the ranking of dump dies named after him. Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and geologist, best known for his contributions to the evolutionary theory. The Darwin Awards are named after him because of his theory of natural selection. And because of that the main statement of awards goes like this: “In the spirit of Charles Darwin, the Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives. Darwin Award winners eliminate themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner, thereby improving our species' chances of long-term survival.” Source!! Getting back to my TOP 3 list: 1.      Beer needed very badly There

Week 8 (30.11 - 06.12) Dumb Ways To Die

Just to avoid the misunderstanding – it is not going to be an article about Darwin’s awards – I would like to write about the creative ways of making social campaigns based on the most popular one- which was named as the topic od this article. When we think of social campaigns, first thing which crosses our mind is that it need to be created in dark colors, the viewers should be scared watching   it and we basically associate it with negative feelings. The problem is, we are used to them and within the time we hardly notice them. Nowadays we are surrounded by brutality- it’s everywhere in news, in games, on the   Internet. And here comes the Dump Ways To Die –a   campaign created for Melbourne Metro. The problem was that young Australians were acting foolish around the trains – it resulted in injuries and deaths. The most important thing was to influence the audience, which was not easy as teenagers do not like to be told what they   can or can’t do. How did they do it? If you h

Week 8 (30.11 - 06.12) Reaching the STARS

Some of you may be familiar with Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series, especially since the newest incarnation of the game, The Phantom Pain, had its premiere this year. The game is known for intertwining serious matters with quite odd humour and bizarre technology. But some ideas aren’t as abstract as they may seem. If you’ve played either Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes or The Phantom Pain, you are familiar with the famous Fulton system. The idea seems pretty ridiculous – sending people up in the air with a balloon for the chopper to collect? Really amusing, but doesn’t seem true.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CS5B24_N18 Surprisingly though, Fulton is an actually existing system. Also known as Surface-to-air recovery system (STARS), Fulton is a system used by the CIA, the United States Air Force and the United States Navy for retrieving people and cargo on the ground using an aircraft, like shown in the picture. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fult

Week 8 (30.11 - 06.12) Social Justice Warriors

Social Justice has recently become a quite fancy term around certain websites, but what does it actually mean? According to Business Dictionary,  it is the fair and proper administration of laws conforming to the natural law that all persons, irrespective of ethnic origin, gender, possessions, race, religion, etc., are to be treated equally without prejudice. It’s also a concept used to describe the movement towards a so called socially just world. Doesn’t it sound half bad, right? Maybe quite noble even. But somewhere something went terribly wrong and Social Justice Warrior became a pejorative label applied to some bloggers and activists. It all goes back to 2006 when an Urban Dictionary user submitted an entry for the term Keyboard Warrior which defines an internet user expressing their anger by writing aggressive messages online. And even though the original idea behind social justice was indeed noble, unfortunately that’s what it has become on the Internet. http://i2.ky

Week 8 (30.11 - 06.12) BLACK FRIDAY

BLACK FRIDAY – a shopping marathon Have you ever heard about a day when people at midnight, all over the United States, gather in lines waiting for shopping malls to open and start bargain hunting? No? Maybe one more hint: in this special period of time (actually it lasts nearly 4 days!) almost all retailers come out with the so-called ‘door buster sales’ offering discounts reaching even 90%. Still nothing? So let me introduce you to BLACK FRIDAY, the day when Christmas shopping season starts. This year it’s going to be November 27 th . There are several different theories where the name comes from but most of them refer to the highest profits gained by the stores during these few days. The Black Friday starts the day after the Thanksgiving and in some of the states is observed as a holiday. The Thanksgiving holiday, the weekend that follows it, and Black Friday are a four-day shopping raid. It is estimated that an average customer spends nearly 400$, which results in roughly
