Week 4 [05-11.11.18] SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY…

We all know anime. I’m not saying that everyone likes it ( actually I’m not some big fan of it either, I’ve seen just some most popular), but come on, are there people   who were born in the 90’s and never heard of Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon or Captain Tsubasa?   When I was younger,   anime used to be quite popular in Poland. There were some really good pieces of art like Miyazaki movies ( my all-time favorite Princess Mononoke, love it) or the Death Note series. There were some extra popular series ( but not so good in my opinion) like Naruto or Bleach. There was also one anime that I think most of you never heard of and that’s such a shame. Let me introduce you to Cowboy Bebop.   So, Cowboy Bebop is an sci-fi anime tv series from 1998 that tells you a story of bounty hunters Spike and Jet that travel through the universe. The story is quite interesting because the mentioned show does not have one main story, it’s made from mini stories - every episode shows d

Week 4 [05-11.11.18] Is english alphabet stupid?

Recently while browsing the internet I’ve found a really funny and interesting video called „Why English alphabet is stupid?” and I thought that I will share it with you. Watch the video above and answer three questions: What do you think about other alphabets like Japanese Kanji? Are they needed? Does your native language have some letters that does not have sense? Did you enjoyed this video? Do you think that this kind of ”lecture” is good for learning because of it’s funny approach?

Week 4 [05-11.11.18] Strapped into a sinking helicopter

Destin Sandlin is a youtuber who wants to make you smarter. Recently he has posted videos presenting Advanced Helo Underwater Egress Training at the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii. He shows us what it is like to be under water in a sinking helicopter and what you have to do to survive and emerge back to safety. What is your opinion about this video? Would you be able to survive? Questions:  Have you ever been a part of a crash in water?  Would you like to take part in “Helo Dunker” training?  Did you know that helicopters flip over when they crash in the water?

Week 4 [05-11.11.18] Seek discomfort with "Yes Theory"

F rom early stages of our lives we plunge into a routine which makes our lives stale, uninteresting and sometimes it can even seem unworthy of living. Coming out of a routine as we all know is really hard because we start to fear everything that is not a part of our everyday life. I want to tell you a story of a group of friends who wanted to change something in their lives and they started a movement called “Yes Theory”. Source: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvK4bOhULCpmLabd2pDMtnA In the summer of 2015 a group of friends from different countries bonded over the idea that life is best lived outside of your comfort zone. With no money and just an idea in their heads, they risked everything and moved into their friend’s apartment and started making videos on YouTube which helped them overcome their biggest fears and seeking discomfort. Week 4 [05-11.11.18] Sound analysis and reverberation time of rooms using Python

Today I would like to share with you my first article which I wrote after finish work on interesting project for company which is produces acoustic furnitures. I hope that this article will be quite interesting for most of you because most of us are programmers. "Have you ever thought that as a web developer you would have to deal with sound analysis? Neither have I but I faced it during a project for a company which is the leading Polish acoustic furniture producer. The case was a web app with a solution to record sound, analyse it and calculate reverberation time. It sounds like a nightmare for a programmer without specific knowledge about sound and acoustics, doesn't it? Fortunately, we have Python and a lot of Python libraries which come in handy! So let me walk you through the whole process. Would you like to learn how to analyse sound? Read a wav file to measure reverberation time First of all, you have to read a wav file and find out some details from

Week 4 [05-11.11.18] Why you should make useless things

Today I would like to to share with you an interesting and funny speech made by Simone Giertz. She is known as an inventor of useless things and she posts her works on YouTube so maybe you already know her. You can recognise her as a comedian but I think that after this TED talk you will change your mind a bit. Under her funny way of explaining things we can see what she really wants to teach us. When she was young, she was really afraid to fail in her life. She was a great student with best grades but every time her results were lower than 100% it was a failure for her. I have to admit that my attitude to life is pretty the same. I am a kind of perfectionist and it is really hard for me to be happy because of little successes. I am trying to change this in my life and she showed me that it is achievable. She invents things which resolve our common problems. These inventions work but usually their big size or a way how they work makes them useless. Is there any sense to build s
