Week 3 (23-29.03) Forbidden Texts

Ever since mankind learned how to speak and write, people felt an irresistible need to express their thoughts and ideas verbally, manifest their opinions as well as to give voice to their imagination and creativity. However, sometimes certain works do not meet with general approval of the rest of the society. Why? For either they are considered too progressive and shocking or they do not comply with commonly accepted norms. Such books meet with incomprehension and intolerance because people always fear of the unknown. They evoke anger and disgust because they are dangerous for the world order and one’s outlook. They fill people with anxiety because they might poison one’s mind, deprave him and drive him towards immorality. Nevertheless, these texts seem to be intriguing and mysterious. They arouse curiosity and fascination, which cannot be easily satisfied since these books are perceived to be evil incarnate and as such are not widely available. They gain in fame and power, become

Week 3 (23-29.03) Fiber-optics. Revolution?

Internet. We all use it, we all need it. But do we see difference, or maybe I should ask do we need to know the difference in the way it’s provided? Recently one of the network and TV providers damaged one of the main roads leading to my place. I asked the workers what they were doing and they answered me that they were putting fiber-optic cables for Network and TV. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I can have really fast internet, but on the other hand the road is still a mess (though it's been 2 weeks since they “finished” their job). But that’s not what I wanted to talk about. Below I present some information about fiber-optic communication. Source: http://media.cleveland.com/strongsville/photo/11947794-large.jpg Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is modulated to carry information. Optical

Week 3 (23-29.03) My USA road trip

This summer I went on a USA road trip. I visited 14 states, 7 big cities, countless smaller ones and numerous national parks. I would like to share my experience with you. The trip took us 5 weeks. Our first flight was from Warsaw to New York, where we spent a couple of days. Then we rented a car and drove South: to Washington, Outer Banks (a beautiful coast full of little islands – remember “Nights in Rodanthe” movie?), Atlanta, Charleston and Savannah. Later we went to New Orleans (also a couple of days there), from where we flew to Denver. On the East coast we visited many national parks, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Cities New York is a city that gives you a choice in practically every field. It also gives you an opportunity to fulfill your dreams, whatever they are. Even if it is loud, packed with people and very quickly moving and changing – everyone will find something they love about New York. Washington is flat - there is a law that

Week 3 (23-29.03) What is the difference between healthy food and diet food?

The main difference is that eating healthy is fun and diet food is something that we hate. The other is that healthy food makes a person – well – healthy, and diet food may ruin our bodies and do exactly the opposite of what we want. Diet food contains no fat or no sugar. It cannot exclude both because, as one of the Friends character once said, “It's no fat, no sugar, no dairy... It's no good, throw it out.”. It means that sugar and fat are comforting and taste giving, so if you exclude both from the product that should contain it, nobody will want to eat it. If you read the labels, you’ll see that 0% yoghurt is packed with sugar. The other thing is that excluding anything from the diet is really unhealthy. It works of course, but it’s only effective on a short term basis and the yoyo effect is guaranteed. There are diets based on proteins only, fat only, sugar excluding etc. but the best way is to know how to combine them to satisfy your organism and what PRODU

Week 3 // AIRLINES

Week 3 //                                                 The low-cost airlines’ development in the last few years has allowed us to travel all over the world in a pretty easy and quite cheap way. Nowadays we cannot imagine our life without the fastest and easiest way of communication- aircrafts. The main advantage of  low-cost airlines  is obviously the price, which allows almost all of us to travel  by plane practically all over the world. What I mean is that we can travel at a much lower price, compared to traditional carriers. In addition, there is no big difference between the onboard security on a planes operated by the low-cost and traditional/legacy carries.  Another point in favor of low-cost airlines (due to the international air law)  is that the qualification and competence of pilots and cabin attendants  are at the equal level.  On the other hand, the low-cost airlines offer us way less comfortable  crafts than the traditional ones. What is more, those low-cos
