Week 6 (16-22.11) - Internet is made for... education

The Internet was created to educate. Do you agree with this statement?  Before you will answer this question, let me show you several reasons: Wikipedia When our parents were learning at school to find some additional information they had to visit a library, sometimes sign up to a waitlist for some book and browse huge toms of encyclopedias. We are in a much better situation now - we are literally a few key presses away from every information we are looking for and, what is even better, this information is free and available in several languages. Can you imagine (or do you remember) life without Wikipedia? Even before elections people tend to search information about candidates on Wikipedia: http://stats.grok.se/

Week 6 (16-22.11) How to deal with procrasrtination

Postponing tasks you have to do may be really dangerous for your career or your school marks. "Procrastination is like a credit card: it's a lot of fun until you get the bill” said Christopher Parker, an English actor and a TV presenter. There are some techniques that help me to fight with my built-in laziness. memegenerator.net

Week 6 (16-22.11) – A Complaint Free World

Can you imagine a world without complaining, gossiping, criticising? Me neither ;) But there is an interesting project called “a complaint free world” started by Will Bowen that encourages us to make a new habit and for 21 days stop complaining, gossiping and criticising. An average person complains 15-30 times each day. Maybe the world would be nicer if we don’t? :) Source: http://www.billmarshjr.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/acomplaintfreeworld.jpg To start your makeover, you need to get and wear a purple bracelet. You can purchase it on a website (all money is donated to other non-profit organizations). But in my opinion you can use anything to track your progress :) Having a bracelet is very helpful, because anytime you say something forbidden you need to move the bracelet to the other arm and begin again. So every time you criticise or complain, you have to start counting the days from the beginning.  The boundaries are not that stiff, you can decide what is

Week 6 (16-22.11) – Let’s be game changers

Today I’d like to talk about something that we know perfectly well – the social media. I guess all of us use the social media, e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter. There are many applications that not only help you communicate with friends but also let you create yourself in front of other people, very often strangers. I’d like to share a story of an 18 year old girl from Australia called Essena O’Neill. She was a social media star - with a successful YouTube account, Tumblr, Snapchat and of course Instagram. She had over 700k Instagram followers and she was making profit out of running it! She said that $2000AUD (which is circa 5500 zł) for a post was “easy" to get. But not anymore, because on 27 October she deleted 2000 pictures and left only 100 with a shocking, edited caption to reveal the truth of being a social media celebrity.  She exposed the backstage of the social media life, like for example about “making of” a perfect bikini photo – taking 10
