Week 7 [08.05-14.05.2017] – From small to big

There is a Japanese legend called “Straw Millionaire” about a poor man who becomes rich, thanks to series of successive trades, starting with a straw. Nowadays the story has repeated. Kyle MacDonald, called the paperclip guy, One day, sitting at his desk he looked at a red paperclip and come up with an idea to play Bigger and Better starting with that. Rules of the game are to trade something small for something bigger and better and repeat it https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1c/One_red_paperclip.jpg He started the game offering a red paperclip from his desk and soon two girls offered a fish-shaped pen for it. Later he got a hand-sculpted doorknob for the pen. After that he traded the doorknob for a camp stove, and after almost a year of trading he ended up giving a movie role contract for a farmhouse. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b4/Red-paperclip-news-1.jpg I encourage you to watch the TED: Questions: 1. Nicola Tesla, the man called by many the father of modern world. Born in modern-day Croatia in 1856. His father, Milutin was a priest  of  the Serbian Orthodox Church. His mother, Duka had the ability to memorize long text and a talent for hand crafting. Tesla inherited the eidetic memory from his mother, and from young age he amazed everyone with his talents. Nicola Tesla portret 1900 ( https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ec/N._Tesla_kolor.jpg ) During the studies, there was an ongoing debate between him and one of the professors over perceived design flaws in the direct-current motors that were demonstrated in class. Tesla dropped his studies and moved to Paris, where he took a job at the Continental Edison Company. During his job, there he made a prototype of alternating a current motor. He tried to find a businessman to become an investor in his invention, but none of them understand the device and didn’t see the value of it, so they rejected Tesla. Nico

Week 7 [08.05-15.05.2017] Living on the road in the old van

http://electrifymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/WaywardStock JamesBarkmanInterview_02.jpg Many of you probably  know this car. This is Volkswagen T2 commonly called Kombi or in Polish "Ogórek". It was very popular in the 70s thanks to the hippies. And also because it was often shown in pop-culture and films. Not without a   reason it gained so much popularity. Mostly for design, functionality and innovation. It   was produced from the 60s to late 90s as the first car that   could accommodate more than 5 people with the   possibility of sleeping. Originally it was designed for factory workers, not for public use but that has changed over time.  https://static1.squarespace.com/static /57081c317da24fc4ef199788/t/5765ebc9e4fcb52666c27a3d/1466297293821/ Kombi is still in use today by many people. There are enthusiasts who love this car and appreciate its advantages. The interior is very simple, you can move individual parts as you wish, just like Lego bricks.

Week 7 [08.05-15.05.2017] Digital Nomad

“You can work anywhere you have access to the Internet, right? So, why are you still here?” this question was asked by many people who decided to become a digital nomad. One of theme Pieter Levels was motivated to move out and change his life. The reason why he did it was quite simple, he wasn't happy with what he was doing so far. " Everything had become one big routine" he said.  Despite being self-sufficient ,   he missed something that made him feel so. That's why he decided to buy a ticket to Bangkok and then his adventure began. Now he is travel ling while working on his start-ups. One of  his idea was to create a social network where "nomads" can share their experience with  each other. He knew well what might be helpful for these people. The site is called nomad list  you can find there the best places to live. If you are interested in living in, e.g. Paris, you probably would like to know what i s the cost of living, speed of the internet,

Week 7 [08.05-15.05.2017] Mechanical keyboards

Code Mechanical Keyboard - https://codekeyboards.com/galleria/3.jpg We use our computers every day, which does involve a lot of writing. Most of the people do not really care what keyboard they have, as long as it works properly. While I can understand the reasoning behind that, I think it's worth a few minutes to talk about mechanical keyboards. I'm a programmer, so by definition I write a lot. The keyboard is my primary tool - it was very important for me to choose the one I'm satisfied with. I'm quite sure that I'm not the only person that writes a lot, in fact, you might want to change your keyboard even if you're a casual writer, simply because your hands will thank you for that. It feels a lot better if writing on a keyboard is not connected with nearly any effort, and mechanical keyboards can greatly help with that. Mechanical keyboards So the primary question is, what is mechanical keyboard and how it's different from "normal" m

Week 7 [08.05-15.05.2017] Grey markets

I realize that not everybody here plays games, but the grey market case should be quite interesting for everybody since it's a major problem not only for consumers, but for developers and companies as well.  In short, a grey market like G2A.com is a place similar to eBay, Amazon or our Polish allegro, where users are allowed to sell their games to other people. This way instead of buying a game at its full price, you can get it much cheaper from another user, spending very often even up to 4 times less than what you'd have to pay buying directly on a platform like Steam. In theory it's awesome pro-consumer service, as long as you don't dig too deep to know what is actually going on... Here is a nice 20-minutes long video that explains the situation in detail: Questions 1. Have you ever bought a game on a grey market like G2A? Did you have any problems with your product? If you never did, maybe you could share some experience with using other similar sites, l
