Week 6 [20-26.04.2020] Horse Riding

HORSE RIDING
Horse riding has been a sport since 1990. It is demanding sport recommended for people with passion and love for animals. Horseback riding is a great pleasure regardless of the season and weather. It doesn't matter if we choose a quiet walk or a gallop - any form of riding is an unforgettable experience. Horse riding improves the condition and strengthens the muscles of legs, buttocks, back, arms and stomach. This type of activity has a positive effect on circulatory system and reduces the risk of heart disease.

Horse riding as a sport discipline

There are seven Olympic disciplines supported by the International Equestrian Federation within horse riding:
1.     Dressage - Olympic equestrian competition where rider and horse perform, in modern dressage, a series of predetermined movements, called figures, on an arena, called the quadrangle. Both rider and a horse should represent harmony and elegance, fluency of movements, calm, balance and mutual understanding.

2.   Show jumping - in this competition, horse and rider jump over obstacles set on the track called parkour. For each miss-jump they gather penalty points. Team which have the less points wins, in case of draw the fastest pair is the winner.

3.    Comprehensive riding horse competition - one of the most spectacular sports on horseback. It is a general horse and rider test that requires a lot of experience. It consists of three trials – dressage, cross country and jumping. It is a kind of equestrian triathlon.

4.    Horse carriage - one of the oldest equestrian competitions. In this discipline driver sits in a sled vehicle and manages a pair or four horses. It is also divided into three chapters – carriage dressage, marathon and driving skills.

5.    Western Riding - riding style derived from the need of using horses by the inhabitants of the American continent while working on farms and ranches. Compared to the classic style, Western riding is different in training and riding, as well as equipment and outfit. There are three types of competitions – technique, speed, cattle games.

6.    Equestrian Vaulting -in this discipline a player or a group of competitors perform various gymnastic and acrobatic exercises on galloping, or trotting horse on a lunge.

7.    Sport Horse Rallies - in that competition rider and horse must overcome a distance of several dozen kilometers in the shortest possible time.

In addition to the above, there are also few non-Olympic disciplines such as:
Polo, Horse ball, working equitation and other Western Riding varieties

"History at a glance"

In 1134, the first Equestrian Academy was founded in Naples, where famous masters trained horses and rode them using manege technique. It was preferred to ride on a completely submissive horse, moving in shortened gaits. The riders sat deep in saddles, with long stirrups and used sharp mouthpieces. The will of the horses was broken by punishment, and the prize was “caresses” which meant temporary lack of penalties. Methods of working with a horse were very dramatic at that time. The revolution in world horse riding was made by Federico Caprilli, a talented Italian rider of the School in Pinerolo. He rode young horses in the field, giving them freedom and the possibility of natural balancing under the rider. He tried to avoid the requirements contrary to the nature of the horse paying great attention to its psyche. He was supporting the idea of rider following horse movement and not constraining it in any way. A system created by Caprilli was called a “natural school” and it was particularly useful in Hippic competitions. In 1924-1939 in Poland riding school located in Grudziądz, a new variety of Italian driving school was created. Because they mastered both - manege technique and “natural school”, Polish variety was featured by greater self-control of horses thanks to their careful dressage and better impact on the horse. Polish riders using this technique won 18 Nation cups and 4 Olympic Medals.

1. I have ridden a horse when I was in Petra. It was quit extraordinary experience the use some living creature as a mean of the transportation. This kind of experience gives you more insight of how different the times were when there were no automobiles and people were forced to use horses to move around long distances.
2. The one that impress me the most is Equestrian Vaulting. I would never have a gut to do it by myself. However, watching somebody in this discipline is a blessing for my eyesight.
3. I have seen the one mentioned above, and I loved it so much! I also have seen Horse carriage and this one wasn’t as fun as the previous one, but still I somehow enjoyed it.
1. I used to ride a pony when I was little. Since then I have not had the opportunity to ride a horse. To be honest, I never felt the need to learn to ride. I have always preferred cars to horses.

2. To be honest, I've never watched horse disciplines at the Olympics. Of course I respect the riders and their horses, but I found these sports boring. Definitely more than these disciplines, I prefer horse races - I've been to the Great Warsaw Race in Służewiec several times. I highly recommend, an interesting experience.

3. As I mentioned in the previous answer, I like to watch horse races. By the way, you can earn a little. I think it's a very interesting sport, even more interesting than motorsport. It requires great skills from riders, and incredible strength from animals.

1. Yes, I have, I love horse riding. When I was younger I used to go to riding camps. I learned to trot, gallop and jump over obstacles. I was even in the field a few times. I don't ride horses anymore but I still love horses. I follow the Pride of Poland auction every year, I've seen it live several times.

2. I like dressage the most, I think it's much harder than jumping and requires a lot of mutual understanding. The competition is very nice to watch, and the horses present themselves with grace.

3. Yes, I’ve seen horse riding competitions several times. I've enjoyed them very much. I love looking at horses, it calms me down. I can't wait to see them again.

1. My parents told me that I was riding on a horse when I was young but I don't remember it at all. I really fear horses and I don't think I will be riding them any time soon.

2. I really like show jumping but I only saw it on youtube but I saw it by accident. I don't really waych any olympics or sports.

3. I haven't. Maybe in the future I will go watch horse racing.

1. I have. A pony when I was young. I can't recall if I've ever sit on a 'full size' horse. Anyway I'm not interested in them and I don't quite like these animals for some reason.

2. To be honest I've never watched any discipline connected with horses neither during Olympics nor in real life or any other competition. Just in some movies maybe.

3. As I said above I've never seen any horse competition so I can't relate to this. I'm not the target audience unfortunately.
Very interesting presentation. Anaswering your questions:

1. Yes, I went only once as a child and I thought it was a great experience. On the other hand, I remember how difficult it was for me because I was afraid that I would fall off my horse.

2. To be honest, I don't know Olympic disciplines in ridehorsing very well. However, I think jumping is fine and it looks cool. Besides, I have never been interested in it, so that's why I have very little time with this topic.

3. As I mentioned above, I was never interested in this topic and the only thing I saw and I know is jumping over obstacles on television

Nope, Once I stayed at a place with a stud nearby, but never did any riding myself. It must be hard to do so I think. Also I was once in a horse-drawn carriage once, it was okay.

2.
I haven't seen any horse riding at Olympics in my life, so it's hard to tell, but judging from the blogpost I think that Comprehensive riding horse competition could be interesting to watch.

3.
No, haven't seen it neither live nor in TV.

1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?

10 years ago. Between June and October I ate intensively on horseback. I rode in the forest around the lake.
At the same time I took care of daily horse care in a private stud farm. And that's why I know that horse riding and horse training itself is hard physical work, and its incompetent performance can be dangerous for a rider and a horse. The maintenance of the horse itself and veterinary treatments are very expensive. For example, the average price of a hotel for a horse in the Lublin region is 850 PLN/month. One can keep a horse in a stable where we will pay 500 PLN and one where the monthly price will exceed 1200 PLN.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
I'm not interested in horse-related sports

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
While I was taking care of horses, I took part in historical insinuations during which I rode a horse as an actor, but this cannot be called a sport

1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?

I have never ridden a horse. This animal wasn't created for me. I'm afraid of him and try not to have contact with him. My experience, I was at the horse farm in Janów Podlaski. There are beautiful mounts. But I can't afford it.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?

I don't have my favorite riding discipline. This is because of my fear of these animals. If I'm watching, it's just dressage.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?

Unfortunately not. Maybe someday I'll take the challenge and watch.

1. No, I don’t think so. I must admit I was always quite scared of them, so I don’t think I will ever dare to try and ride one, but I must admit they have really soft noses and are extremely cute when they are being fed.

I guess in the aspect of horse riding I agree with Sherlock Holmes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY_2nAfS9ys

2. As for me horse riding is itself simply mind-blowing. However, Equestrian Vaulting is something I googled and was really impressed with. It’s impossible what they are doing on these horses with such a small amount of space to do all these acrobatic exercises! As if riding on a horse wasn’t dangerous and stressful enough :D

3. I have never before your article, but I have googled Equestrian Vaulting that I’ve mentioned before, and it was intriguing to watch, it is really impressive how balanced, coordinated and calm these people are! But after like five minutes of watching I got stressed that they would fall or something and turned the video off
1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?

I rode a horse twice in my life. First time when I was a a child and I can barely remember how was it. Ther second time was not so long ago. Around one year ago I had one horse riding lesson and to be honest it was very fun. I was surprised how hard and exhausting it is but I found it very satisfying.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?

I have seen many clips from horse show jumping events and they are always pleasing to watch. Now I am aware of how hard and demanding sport it is and this makes me appreciate it even more. I also like horse racing and I have been at such shows a couple of times.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?

I have seen some of those but only on the internet. I have seen, however, a couple of times a horse racing competitions and even placed some bets. Watching those horses without any betting would be very boring for me but while there was a chance of earning some cash I was very interested in the outcome.

1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?
I did. In fact I went to horseback riding school when I was a kid, and I quite enjoyed it.
2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
Regular race. For some reason barricades and allures do not fancy me as the classic speed does.
3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
No, but I know that races are a huge gamble these days.
Thanks for Your comment. I agree that horse riding is very extraordinary experience. Imagine that today to get from one country to another is few hours travel by plane but before modern means of transport people had to travel days by horse to get to the final destination. It is really interesting experience to feel how people had to travel in those days. I agree with You that equestrian vaulting is the most spectacular disciple of them all. I can’t even imagine how hard it has to be to learn doing these things.
1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?

Yes, I have. When I was a kid I did quite often actually. My sister is a true horse enthusiast, but I was always more scared of these huge beasts, so I don't ride it anymore.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?

Showjumping is the most interesting. It's very dynamic.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?

I sometimes watched in the Eurosport, but it's not really my kind of sport. My sister likes them though, so sometimes we watch. It's quite interesting.
Thanks for Your comment. I personally as well prefer cars then horses but there is something amazing about riding living creature. If you scratch a car it is not really a big deal, You just go to the mechanic and replace the part or even just repaint it. But If something happens to the horse You can’t just replace it. I am sure there must be some special bond between horse and rider which make it more unique then between car and driver.
Thanks for Your comment. I agree horse riding is just awesome! You are right, dressage is very hard discipline because as You said it doesn’t require only knowledge about how to do it but also years of practice with the same horse which provide mutual understanding between horse and rider. I think it is impossible even for masters to just get on a new horse (even if it is trained) and score any good result in dressage competition with out a lot of earlier training.
Thanks for Your comment. I can understand Your fear of horses, after all they are really big and heavy animals which, when not controlled, can do a big harm to a human. But I think it is a matter of time spent with horses to overcame this fear because the more time You spent with them the more You know that actually it is other way around. Horses despite their size are very fearful creatures and are probably much more scared of You then You are of them. :)
Thanks for Your comment. I think it is just because You haven’t spent enough time with these animals to like them. After some time with horses it is just impossible not to like them, they are very sociable, trustful and lovable creatures. In fact, they totally remember people and if You spent enough time with them, they will actually start to recognize You and will be happy to see You again.
1 / As a child, I often attended horseback riding lessons, and as a teenager I often went to various events dedicated to this sport. I consider horses to be a very beautiful creature and very underestimated.

2 / Today there are a great many directions of equestrian sport, among which you can choose something suitable for yourself. The most common riding directions are show jumping and dressage. Jumping is suitable for those who prefer active and energetic sports. Dressage requires painstaking work to achieve perfect results and is a calmer and more elegant discipline.

3 / I saw the race once once and it was very exciting.

I've been horse riding a few times in my life, but I didn't like it, and I was scared, probably because I have a fear of heights.
It's a hard question to ask, but I think I'm most impressed with Equestrian Vaulting, because I like gymnastics very much, and it takes a lot of balancing.
I've never seen a professional horse riding competition in my life, but I was impressed with it on TV.

1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?

No I haven’t but my friend used to do it as a child. I am not a huge fan of horses, I admire them as animals but I generally don’t like when people use animals for their purposes without thinking about them.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?

I guess my first answers also applies to this question.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?

I guess my first answers also applies to this question. I have never seen any horse-riding competition and I am not planning to change that.

2. I always admired Equestrian Vaulting and still would love to try this discipline one day.
3. I did but only in video never live. I do enjoy watching this and hope to go on some horse ride or show jumping soon.
1. I did it once and I didn't like it. To be honest I don't know why.
2. I don't watch any of them.
3. I did in the television. I don't know the rules of such competition so it wasn't fun to watch for me

1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?
My expierence isn't as positive as others mentioned in their comments. My parents pushed me and my sister to try horseriding when we were in early primary school years. My sister really enjoyed it and she has been doing it for more than 15 years now but since I've go near-death accident with horse I've never tried it again. I'm afraid of them, feel respect to them as animals but try not to be in their surroundings at all.
2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
Maybe western riding, just because of the theme.
3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
As I've stated in my answer to first question - I try to avoid horses as much as possible, which also includes watching sport events.
1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?
No, I have no occasion to.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?

Unforunatlly, I don't know any of those.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?

No, I am not into that subject, however this article souds really interesting.
1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?
Yes, i have tried to ride a horse 2 times. First time was few years ago with my girlfriend. She is riding a horse and I wanted to try it, but it was not a good idea. I did something wrong and the horse was afraid of me and we did some mess. I don’t have a lot of experience, but sometimes I am giving some food to her horse or I am going with him to his box.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
I like the most horse show jumping. I find it the most attractive to watch. It is one of the most spectacular things to watch, it is just so satisfying. Moreover my girlfriend is doing it and every time I watch her I have never feel bored.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
No I have never seen this, but I have heard about Cavaliada or something like this. It takes place in Warsaw and many people recommend it.
1. Have you ever ride a horse? What is your expierence with horses?
I have never ridden a horse and I don't think it will change in the near future. To be honest, I don't know anything about it and I'm not particularly interested in it.

2. Which of horse riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
In my opinion show jumping seems to be quite interesting and it can be dynamic, although I have never watched anything related to horses at the Olympics.

3. Have you ever seen any horse riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
I have never seen it, I know absolutely nothing about it. When it comes to sport, I prefer football, rallies and car races like WRC or F1.

1. Yes, I have ridden a horse before, but it was really long ago. I think it happened around the time when I was attending primary school. At first, I was scared of horses, but after few minutes ride I became quite fascinated. My dream from childhood is to ride on a horse really fast, and I hope I'll be able to make it happen.

2. I think show jumping is my favourite discipline, as it's really enjoyable to watch an animal as big as a horse jump over obstacles with such a grace.

3. Not in person, but I saw few competitions online. I did enjoy it quite a lot.
1. Have you ever ridden a horse? What is your experience with horses?
Well my only experience with horses is that my uncle had two of them and when I was small he put me on it and showed me around while holding me so I wouldn't fall I never rode them alone I was also driving a cart with a horse it was really fun.
2. Which of horse-riding Olympic disciplines do you like most and why?
I didn’t watch horse riding Olympic disciplines at last I don’t remember them I wonder why…
3. Have you ever seen any horse-riding competition? Did you enjoy it?
I only saw some fragments of horse-riding competition mostly on you tube and mostly unsuccessful attempts and funny fragments otherwise the start to become boring after some time.
Thanks for Your comment. It is true that horse riding is quite more difficult then it looks at the first sight. For me the hardest thing was to learn how to rise to the trot because I always thought that You just have to sit and the horse is doing all the work however, it turns out that You have to move all the time and try to synchronize with horse movement.
1. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to ride a horse. But I feel great respect for them and I would like to try it sometime.
2.Of all the Olympic disciplines in terms of horseback riding, I like jumping the most. First of all, you never know how the horse will behave, it all depends on the day and the mood of the animal. Moreover, there is still the question of the rider who controls the horse, in fact, everything depends mainly on him. That's why jumping is the most exciting thing.
3.I've never seen a horse-riding competition in my life, but I'll definitely go for one.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
