Week 9 [09.12 – 15.12.2019] - Ramsey Theory

How something similar between different objects could be found? Could there be a pattern in a huge amount of data, a lot of which elements even are incompatible? The answer is yes, it could. The Ramsey theory explains it in the video below.

Please answer the following questions:

Have you heard about that theory? What do you think about it?
Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?
What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?

Have you heard about that theory? What do you think about it?
No I never heard about it. I don't belevie in it.
Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?
Nope.
What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?
The funniest are from game of thrones final season and stupidiest i ever heard was about flat earth as i remember.

I think i've heard about it but didn't pay much attention to it. Maybe i havn't i was mistaken by name that sounds quite common.

Yes, i know a lot of people that believes in different kind of theories, while some of these theories are very stupid.

I've heard that government hides from us source of unlimited energy. I did't believe it, but it didn't sound as stupid as provided explanation to it. I was told that when you combine two magneses with a fan, all together it will provide unlimited energy. At this point i knew that this theory was really stupid.
Unfortunately, I must answer the first two questions: no.
Probably everyone has heard of Area 51? Me and others have this theory: there are no UFOs or other similar things. I believe that the government is testing new weapons or devices that we have no idea about.

Yes, I heard about this theory. Indeed, many things seem pretty funny. But many methods of this theory are actively used today in the fields of science related to combinatorics. Well, in general, as it turned out this whole section of mathematics with a whole theoretical basis and formulas.

Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?
Yes, of course, they are all around us. For example, the theory of 5 handshakes. I honestly still am not quite sure that this is so in fact, but I do not exclude the fact that this may be true.

What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?
Last year, I read that there is a whole group of people who have their own communities on the Internet and on other platforms that believe that our Earth is flat. They claim that the spherical shape of our planet is a universal conspiracy of world government members, and they are trying to powder people’s brains.
1. No, but it is just sheer mathematics. Given the possibility, people will find everything they want. The more material you give them, the more conspiracies you get in the end.
2. Maybe I have met them, just haven’t talked to them about this.
3. The first that comes to my mind is a funny theory where statistically speaking, about 8 spiders crawl into our mouths while we sleep each year. It just freaks everyone out.

No, I haven't. I am not sure that these theory have real application. It looks like a theory, only mathematical calculus.

Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?
Maybe I have, but we didn't discuss this kind of topics.

What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?
I didn't remember such.
1. I've heard about this topic but I didn't know there is a whole theory. I would definitely say that people tend to look for similarities where there are none. Our brains just work like this, either way, we wouldn't be able to recognise the shape of a smiley ;)

2. Yes, plenty of them.

3. There is a theory that we live in a simulation, just like in the Matrix. Many people got interested in this idea and it became more of a hypothesis that scientists study. The scariest part of this theory is that no-one can proof, with all certainty, that it is not true. There were many that tried to disproof it, for instance, they speculated that the computing power needed for simulation this big, would be impossible to achieve because there are not enough electrons in the universe. However, this reasoning could also be a wrong, as the world in this simulation could be rendered such as modern games, computing only what is seen by us, and everything else is a void. If anybody interested here is an article related to this: https://futurism.com/the-nobel-prize-was-just-awarded-for-the-discovery-of-ripples-in-spacetime
1. No, but it's interesting. It is very logical and explain this phenomenon very well.
2. I once met preson that belived in Earth being flat. I can definitely count it as one of the strangest experiences in my life.
3. Theory where lizards are ruling the world, it actually has a huge amount of believers who are trying to prove it.

1. Have you heard about that theory? What do you think about it?

I heard about Ramsey Theory but I wasn't interested in what it was about. This theory examines the conditions under control. The order must match. It deals with the search for regularity in random and disordered objects.

2. Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?

No, unfortunately I didn't meet anyone who preached Ramsey Theory.

3. What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?

Bermuda triangle. In the calculations of many unexplained disappearances and missing traces or to remove the disaster around the Bermuda Triangle, many conspiracy theories have appeared over the years. Obviously extraterrestrial civilization is involved in the most popular of them. Apparently, UFO missions are often reported on the mysterious and extraordinary Bermuda Triangle.

1. No, I haven't. This is a very interesting theory and in my opinion it is true.

2. Personally, I do not know such people, but nowadays you can find entire communities believing in such theories on the Internet.

3. In my opinion, the theory of flat earth and that vaccines cause autism are the stupidest theories. The most interesting were about the events of the last season of Game of Thrones.
1. Yes, I've heard about it, but I didn't know it's called the Ramsey theory. I think that's true. People can find connections and signals anywhere. But it's all just simple math and probabilities. It's funny that there are people who refuse to believe it and persist in proving their opinions. For example, that the word "tsunami" on page 142 in some famous book means the number of deaths from a tsunami in some country and that the author of this book knew about it in advance.

2. Yes, I've met people like that. The example I wrote above, I heard from such a person.

3. The Earth is flat, and the government staged all travels in space. That's the funniest theory I've ever heard.

I’ve never heard about that theory, but it is very interesting, thank you for sharing it! I was always interested in stars and constellations, but it was totally unclear to me why for example Capricorn constellation is Capricorn if it’s totally doesn’t look like one. Now I know that this is totally random and people find patterns where they want to find one. This theory totally makes sense to me.
Sure, people believe in what they want to believe and see what they want to see, even if it’s absolutely not logical.
Oh, one of my teachers from school believed that people appeared on the Earth because some time ago aliens put us there. She was teaching history, by the way, which makes this believing even more hilarious in my eyes. But hey, it’s a free world, you can believe in Spaghetti Monster if you’d like.

1. Yeah, I heard about it, it's interesting.
2. I don't really know anyone who would believe such things.
3. Flat earth

1) I think I knew about it, something like it. I don’t agree though. This “theory” is about finding connection between unrelated things. I think that prejudices are for dumb people.

2) I knew some people that were superstitious about what’s going on in their lives. I felt a bit sorry about them.

3) For example chem trails theory. I find it funny, because we believed in it when we were 5-6 years old, time goes by, you are 21 and still you can find some people believing it :).
Unfortunately, I'm not heard about that theory. As i understood it is really strange theory of connections.

I don't know anyone who might be interested or heard about that.

There was a theory of illuminati that's pretty interesting theory actually.

1. I heard about this theory, and it comes from common sense. You can permute the chain of 10 letters and numbers, and the majority of people will find their passwords in that dataset. In school, I played a funny game with my friends. We open newspaper, book, magazine, or even website and try to find some "hidden" information inside articles. After successful searches of these "hidden messages", we try to represent this information to someone. And some people believed in this nonsense. But most importantly, we managed to find a concourse of circumstances in every big article. That's a practical proof that from large enough datasets we can compose any information.

2. As I said before, people believed in that crappy but sane enough theory created from the article approximately in 10 minutes just to entertain myself.

3. I know two stupid theories: that earth flat and government lie about this fact, and the second one about lizard men that control this world. And I know one theory that like: theory about our world as a well-designed computer simulation.

1) No, I have never heard about Ramsey theory. But it seems quite interesting.
2) Yes, I have met people who really believe in some strange things, for example that there are coincidences.
3) I can say that there is a theory called the enormous theorem. It`s not funny one, but a little absurd cause there are maybe only a few mathematicians in the world who understand the proof in full, and it`s even unclear what math might gain from its completion. Researches started in 1832, and wasn`t finished until 2004.
1.Have you heard about that theory? What do you think about it?
I haven't heard it but I don't quite agree with it. However, I respect that someone may think so and be interested in it.

2.Have you ever met people who believe in such kind of theories?
When it comes to different concepts and theories, I met a person who believes that the earth is not round or flat but is a cone. He thinks that the cosmos is divided into seven spheres in which we live. What's the funniest thing about this is a man who is 31 one years old and has a PhD in philosophy.

3.What are the most interesting or funny theories you have ever heard?
I think nothing beats the man's theory that I mentioned in the comment above. In my life I met a lot of very original people with a completely different point of view.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...

Week 4 [06-12.11.2017] This is what happens when you reply to spam email.

James Veitch is a British comedian. In today’s Ted Talk James with characteristic for himself a sense of humor shows how he deals with spam emails and why responding to junk messages may be sometimes dangerous. Questions: What do you think about James’s  way of dealing with spam? Why are junk messages legal, even though it sometimes may be a fraud? Dou you have a problem with spam? How do you deal with with it?
