Week 5 [12.11-17.11.19] How bees collect pollen and what do they use it for?

Bees are probably the most important species on Earth, but when we go deeper into the hive world, we realize how little we know about them. They are incredibly hard-working, have complex habits and have a variety of jobs. I would like to share with you interesting video which explains how bees collect pollen, how their bodies are adapted for doing it very efficiently and, eventually, how they prepare bread for feeding all members of hive.
Bees are so extraordinary that I decided to share one more video. Both of them are pretty short so you won’t spend the whole day watching it. :) It is about distributing jobs and responsibilities in a hive. If you liked it, I recommend you reading “Hive” written by Laline Paull.

Bees are able to gather even 140 thousands of pollen particles and it might even one-third of insect weight. I would say than the bee on this picture even more as the pollen balls attached to her legs are nearly as big as her abdomen!

Questions:
  1. Did you know that bees prepare bread?
  2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
  3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
  4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
  5. Have you ever tried macro photography?

1- Did you know that bees prepare bread?
Ok, they are hard workers but surprised they aren't selling this stuff at hipster coffee shops yet...I mean, I'd definitely try it...

2- Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
We can create a habitat that supports bees with the plants what they are actually liking.

3- Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
Not yet, but maybe in the future.

4- What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Well, this is actually what my house-mate Larry does, he only eats and play video games. The produce no food, complete not housecleaning and literally do nothing. That's not only bees man, we livings are lazy.

5- Have you ever tried macro photography?
Yes, I have.
Did you know that bees prepare bread?
No I did not know that. It is fascinating.

Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
Make a special rooms where they can coexists and no one can harm them.

Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
I did not, I subsidized different types of companies.

What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Well, thats how life goes for them :) I do not interfere with

Have you ever tried macro photography?
No, I haven't

1. Did you know that bees prepare bread?
No, I didn't know that. I am glad that you inform us about it.

2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
The European Union should launch a project to subsidize the development of apiaries. Thanks to this, people would be more willing to invest in establishing new ones in the development of this field. In addition, there should be more training for beekeepers.

3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
No, I have never subsidized an organization supporting bees. I just prefer to spend this money on children who are so vulnerable. The children are closer to me as a human.

4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
I have no opinion. This issue is too difficult for me. In addition, you give quite a few questions :(

5. Have you ever tried macro photography?
Yes, I once tried to photography a macro. These are beautiful photos. I really enjoy doing this in my free time.
1.Did you know that bees prepare bread?
I did ]n't know about it, I am surprised by the incredible ingenuity of these small insects.

2.Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
First of all, create the right conditions for them to survive, maybe a good idea would be a cattle and the installation of hives among fields and forests? Certainly, investment in the foreheads is very important for our environment.

3.Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
Unfortunately I never did it. There are a lot of organizations in the world that need subsidies. Until now, I supported animal shelters and children's homes. Unfortunately, organizations that deal with bee care are not able to advertise properly, which is why not much is heard about it every day ...

4.What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
The animal world is extremely surprising. The moment we start looking at it, it shows us very ingenious solutions. In this case it is very difficult for me to give a constructive answer why this is happening.

5.Have you ever tried macro photography?
Only by setting photos as wallpaper on your computer or phone, however, I don't think that this is the answer you expect :)

Yes, tough I didn't know how the whole process goes.

2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
In Gdansk on the roof of some public office there are bee hives and this year they gave first honey for the workers. I believe by planting more rooftop gardens and bee hives there may be a first step to improve their condition in bigger cities.

3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
Unfortunatly not I only subsidized the one's that protects animal as a whole not specially bees as those are really bad advertised and I never even heard of one.

4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Oh, nice I would like such easy life. Now jokes aside, nature gave them such task, if it wouldn't work their responsibilities would change by the nature itself. If they are doing their part of a job and everything works perfectly why change that?

5. Have you ever tried macro photography?
Never I don't have a good photo camera only the one in my phone. But maybe i should check how it would get the macro done.

Nope, I am not a bee expert.
Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
The same way, extinction of any other specie is done. Provide unharmed natural habitat.
Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
I haven't spend enough time researching this topic, regarding bees. I probably would had I red about it.
What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
I did not know about that fact. There should be a reason, but if the scientists cannot agree on one reason, then probably, my guess will not bring anything worthwhile.
Have you ever tried macro photography?
Not keen on photography as well :) The only photos I take are some lecture notes with my phone. Even though I realize that camera on my phone is really bad.
1. No, I wasn't aware of that fact.

2. I believe that spreading this topic on a larger scale is the best solution for that, because at some point someone will come up with a good solution to this issue.

3. I haven't yet done it, because I usually don't trust organisations like that. If you can recommend a legit one, I will happily do so.

4. I believe it is the natural way for bees.

5. Yes, I used to do such photos sometimes, but I don't have a very good equipment for this type of photography.

1. I was surprised to found out about the bee breat. I didn't know that.
2. I think spreading the topic and there are project like "adopt a bee" to take part in.
3. I did once and plan to do it again. Bees are preety important in the ecosystem chain.
4. I think is preety great for the drones and also this is how they are biologically constructed
5. No I, didn't yet but again I am just starting playing with photography.
1.No, I have never heard of it. A lot of bee products are popular but I hear about it for the first time.
2. I believe that the decrease in bee population is caused by the low awareness of farmers who spray plant protection products at inappropriate times.
3. No, I do not support the restriction. I believe that it is better to support people involved in bee farming, e.g. by purchasing products directly from them. Then I am sure that they are 100% natural.
4.Samka largely allow the establishment of a new bee mother thanks to which the family can grow.
5. I haven't tried.

No, I've heard a lot about bees but not this one.

Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
Environmentalists are trying to draw public attention to this problem by asking to use less pesticides and global warming reasons.

Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
I haven't done it yet, there are too many of them.

What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
It's interesting idea.

Have you ever tried macro photography?
Yes, I love this kind of photography.
1. Did you know that bees prepare bread?
I never heard about this before I wonder how it taste
2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
I don’t think we can save them. I hope that we can clone them one day to bring them back from extinction and in the meantime, we find something to replace them so we will no go extinct with them.
3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees? Why, why not?
No never and I don’t know why. I wasn’t very interested in it.
4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Maybe because they are not technologically developed, and they didn’t invent invitro or other technology that allowed them to get rid of male.
5. Have you ever tried macro photography?
No, I have never tried macro photography
Interesting presentation. Answering your questions:

1. I had no idea that bees were preparing bread. This is new to me :o

2. It is very difficult to answer this question because I do not know their history exactly, but I think that they would be helped by suitably large bee and flower farms.

3. No, I have never subsidized any organization that protects about bees, becauseI have never been interested in it...

4. Maybe this is just their task? Or it's just a natural activity for male bees.

5. I tried taking macro photos but on the flagship smartphone. I know that these effects are not the same as those of a professional camera, but I can say that they are quite interesting and interesting. And the photos are quite good.
Did you know that bees prepare bread?

No I didn’t, but I find it very interesting.

Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?

My idea would be to build beehives in cities on top of building, so they could have a place to live. Not only in less urban areas of the country. Maybe also providing financial support from the government for organizations that know and already have a plan how to save bees and our environment.

Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?

I’ve never done that, because I’ve never heard of those organizations before. Now I’m more willing to take a closer look at that matter and maybe try to make a difference.

What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?

I’d say it’s a rather common practise in the animal world and bees are not the only ones that do that. For example lions and bees are quite similar in that matter. They have survived thousands or even more years on this planet, so I guess it’s quite an efficient technique.

Have you ever tried macro photography?

I’ve never tried it, but I appreciate being able to notice the details which can’t be seen from a regular distance.

I used to help parents in the apiary, so yes, I know a little about bees, including about bread

2.Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
Unfortunately, bees are very sensitive to radio waves, so in order to save these creatures, humans would have to abandon any radio-using technique. Well, or we can just start creating a new kind of bee more adapted to the environment.

3.Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
No, never, because I did not know about the existence of such

4.What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Female bees let them do nothing? As far as i know, they want nothing to do. so this is more a problem of the drones themselves :)

5.Have you ever tried macro photography?
No, but I would

Yes, I did, I used to watch animal documentary, and I knew about this from TV.

2.Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
I do not have too many ideas, but I think we should use less pesticides, at least this is what common farmers can do.

3.Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
No, I haven't, because I have never met such organizations on the street, but if I will meet them in the future, of course I will subsidize.

4.What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
I don't know, it is their business, we have better ask them if possible, since they are not human and they don't do things the same way as us, but I think this behavior might be common in animal world.

5.Have you ever tried macro photography?
No, I prefer watching documentary on TV.
1. I did not, it's fascinating. However, I've eaten bee pollen.
2. We should use fewer chemicals in agriculture. Did you know that nowadays bees prefer cities rather than the countryside? It's because in cities there are more planted flowers and fewer pesticides.
3. No, however, I try to look at the products' labels and choose items that are better for the environment, but I rarely see bees mentioned on those.
4. No idea... Trust issues? ;)
5. Yes, I have. I managed to take a photo of a butterfly!

1. No I didn’t know that bees prepared bread because I’m not that interested in the topic. However, it is a interesting thing to know for a future.

2. I think that the best idea is to protect our environment in general. We can also refrain from using pesticides and take care of hives. Extinction of these fascinating beings would be a disaster for the ecosystem because they maintain plant reproduction system

3. No, I haven’t because I didn’t think about it much, as well as I lack money to maintain my own needs sometimes.

4. I don’t know what to think about it as it’s the world of animals and it has its own rules and habits. I just know it wouldn't pass in the human world.

5. No, I didn’t as I’m not interested in photography in general. However I think that such photos are gorgeous.
1. No, I didn't know about it, but it's interesting. I like that every week I learn something new.

2. I think different organizations can help in this, which will massively breed bees in their usual habitat.

3. No, I've subsidized no organization that protects about bees. Just because I don't have the money to do it.

4. I think if this was intended by nature, then it should be.

5. Unfortunately not, but I like it. If I had a good camera, then I would definitely try macro photography.

1. Did you know that bees prepare bread?
Yes, pollen, which gets into the hive, bees turn into beebread which in Poland is called “Pierzga”. Beebread has strong and intensive smell of kvas.

2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
Each of us can help in saving bees. All you need to do is creating small garden that is bee friendly. Leave some containers with clear water in order to let them drink the water. You can also buy honey from local apiaries in order to keep beekeeping on the market as well as keep them developing.

3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
I do. My grandpa is a beekeeper for years and when I have free time usually during summertime I am eager to help him with carrying water buckets with sugar and other stuff that could be harder for retired people.

4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Drones in hives are doing nothing that’s true. The only part that they are playing there is insemination of mother during “wedding flight” — translated from polish.

5. Have you ever tried macro photography?
Yes, not professionally, because I don’t have macro lens, but I did make some of the photos using normal camera with great zoom.

1. Did you know that bees prepare bread?

I was aware of the fact that bees produce their own nourishment, but I had no idea how it’s called and how exactly the preparation of it looks like. I also had no idea, that bees’ bread and “pierzga” is the same thing before I have googled it. It’s quite popular “vitamin bomb” but I wouldn’t say it’s tasty.

2. Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?

I don’t think I have any specific idea to prevent their extinction as I am not a specialist in this genre. We should definitely more firmly prevent deforestation and meadows destruction. The more area we possess, the less chances of survival we give to these insects. Maybe some kind of nature reserves or inviolable grounds would help bees survive? Or controlled and safe cultures for bees to rebuild their population?

3. Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees? Why, why not?

No, I have never. In my high school we used to help animals from WWF foundation, as our educator always requested that kind of end of the year gift. I’ve never heard of organization that helps bees, but now, I must admit, I’m quite intrigued to find one that actually can make a difference.

4. What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?

I think that they let them to hang around because that is the sole purpose of drones in a hive. As they said in the video, all the female bees are “programmed” by the hormones, that change frequently during their lifetime. I think that drones wouldn’t be that receptive for all the hormone changes and nature decided, that they are meant to be useless apart from the reproduction.

5. Have you ever tried macro photography?

I did, it’s one of my favorite ways of photographing things. Seeing all those imperceptible at the first glance details, colors, patterns. It was always really fascinating for me. Unfortunately, without a good camera, macro photography is almost unattainable.

Did you know that bees prepare bread?
No, I didn't know that. It was a very interesting information for me.
Probably you heard about the decreasing population of bees, could you bring some ideas on how we can prevent the extinction of those fascinating beings?
In previous semester I did the presentation about bees extinction and how we can save them. The most interesting thing that was in that presentation is to use ordinary or white beehives because of global warming. The reason for the mass deaths of bees, according to CaraDonna , was that because of the elevated temperature inside the hive, it meant insects could not completely hibernate. Therefore, they quickly burned fat reserves and woke up in the spring weakened.
Have you ever subsidized any organization that protects about bees. Why, why not?
I have tried to donate money to Green Peace on the bees saving program, but they require only regular every month payments.
What do you think about drones (male bees), why female bees let them literally do nothing but eating and mating?
Because the major part of bees are female (more than 70%) and male bees are needed for reproduction.
Have you ever tried macro photography?
No I haven't. I wanted to try about 8 years ago, but than I didn't have a camera that was good enough.

2. Yes, I do. Plant spraying is the main reason I've heard of it. I see on facebook some information too. But no one says how to help bees, except to donate money to organizations. People don't know enough about them. And farmers do not listen to beekeepers and they will kill whole hives.

2. Yes, I have heard about it of course. Bees are just a good example that shows us how bad is the situation with natural environment, they are one of the most important elements in the natural chain of life. Protecting the environment is hard and it seems that without bees it will only get worse. So I have no idea how to fix it.
3. No, I didn’t, I need to feel safe about myself first to start donating.

4. I believe that this "division of labor" was formed by hundreds of years of evolution. And if this system is not broken and everything working fine, then why nature needs to change something.

2)Yes, I did, it turned out to be a scam which was popularised by unscrupulous journalists. So there is some good news, bees are not in any danger. At least for now.
3 Unless helping my uncle to look after his beehives could be counted as a contribution. But to be honest, I did that for honey.
4) It is hard to blame bees. I guess they are too occupated with gathering honey and other important stuff to bother about gender equality.

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form.
