Week 9 [10.12-16.12.18] Why this awful sounding album is a masterpiece

There are some weird albums. Probably a lot of them. But not many divide people that way as this one. I think with this one there are equal amount of people thinking this is garbage as it is a masterpiece. For me it can be both: awfully sounding garbage while still being something valuable that has introduced something new, that could inspire more people.

1. Do you know any other bands/albums that are also so progressive or pushed music forward?
2. Would you try listening to that album? Do you see any reason for existing something like that or it is just pure nonsense?
3. What might be the reason for creating such an album these days?

Comments

While my favourite music type is not the one that anticipated the most (it is, in fact, even banned in several countries), I see no sense in such experiments. While you can call this "Art", I stand for that this is definetley not music. It is a prank, experiment, but nothing more.

Certainly “Massive Attack” pushed music forward, but in a very different way than Trout Mask Replica. They were precursors for modern electronic dance music (EDM) and trip hop genre. I highly recommend listening to some of their most popular tracks (one is a theme song of dr. House series).
I wouldn’t try to listen to this album. It’s nice that they were experimenting with musical foundations, tones and rhythms, however there is way too much of artistic anarchy that it’s almost impossible to feel joy of it.
I agree with you. Still there is a huge number of people who will say this is a masterpiece.

I definitely not a fan of this genre, still it has some popularity in "art" world. I don`t even know how it is possible that such kind of albums are becoming popular in our days.
I don't know any other bands like this and i don't know anyone who could enjoy this type of music, i kinda think it is more of a meme instead of real music. I would not try to listen to this exact piece, but i think that experimenting is good and even if it sounds like crap it is still and experience and without experimentation there will be no progress. As i said the reason is definitely trying to make something new, because no matter how good is the music you listen to now, one day it will become boring and you'll need something new, and who knows maybe then you would enjoy this band?
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Trout Mask Replica. The rhythm is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical music, most of the musical themes will go over a typical listener's head. There’s also Captain Beefheart's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his composition - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The artists understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they’re not just good - they say something deep about LIFE.

1. Do you know any other bands/albums that are also so progressive or pushed music forward?

No. My god, I am so happy that I don't know any other.

2. Would you try listening to that album? Do you see any reason for existing something like that or it is just pure nonsense?

I tried. It was... painful. It was like someone started beating me with bananas. I tend to like bananas. But not when served in that way. But I think it is great to play when you want people to leave from your home after a long party.

3. What might be the reason for creating such an album these days?

Money. If you stand out, you will earn. Maybe not much, but something at least. Probably more people hard about this album than actually listened this... "music".

I understood that reference!
Thank you for the article. I am definitely not a fan of such music. It is very strange and specific. Of course, and it has fans. I can't call it music. It seems that someone was joking, had fans and continued to create masterpieces.

I've never heard of this album and music, and also don't understand the phenomenon of it. I think it's specific type of music and it's a talk about one's taste in music here. This band might have created a masterpiece but it doesn't really sound like something genius to me. A genius artist for me would be someone (example Queen) who created music that reaches everyone, not confusing here today's pop music, but i'm talking about the legends and people with real talents where people don't have to question whether the artist has got something or not.
I know them :) Yeah, Teardrop is probably most known but it was used in so many places that it is kinda tiring for me. But I like that cover of it

I think an important musician to mention would be Miles Davis who revolutionised jazz music industry not once nor twice, he's known to introduce couple new trends into jazz, creating multiple new jazz subgenres.

2. I'd probably skip this experience as it's genuinly not my kind of thing, but possibly there could be an arrangement of it that would fit my taste.

3. There's possibly a million reasons to do such an album but only one or a few is correct. In my opinion, it could possibly bring enough attention to the band so that the next time the name shows up it wont be unfamilliar, hence helping out sales of a future longplay.
What's the reason for some countries to ban that kind of music you listen to?
I have tried to listen to Trout Mask Replica and actually I can not consider their album as something that pushed music forward. I think there are so much more bands that actually really did so like for example Queen with "Bohemian Rapsody" where five music genres are included in one song.
Does Trout Mask Replica album sound interesting? Of course it is when you like your ears bleeding. This is not my favourite kind of music genres and I can not really find listening to their music enjoyable.
I think that jazz is often too overlooked. It is like the whole genere isn't well introduced to the customers. Only with a few some popular positions like Whiplash.
What's the origin of that meme? Was it first about Rick and Morty xd ?
There can be multiple ways to be a genius. It can be also creating whole album this way, not even knowing how to play piano and being able to coordinate whole band to play what you have in mind (even when it is a madness)
So would you listen to whole album with songs created similar way as Bohemian Rhapsody? Probably at some point that would also be really tiring.
Why for you it can't be called music? What requirements should it meet?
I agree with you. It is like with new technology. Sometimes we need first to see how should it be formed properly by releasing some experimental features.

If we talk about real music - new album and new music experiments by Ukrainian musician Ivan Dorn is progressive and pushed Ukrainian and Russian electronic and pop music forward. He is trying to make a good and interesting sound and in my opinion he has a big success on this.

Music album that described in the topic is a big fat piece of garbage. I really hope that it won't be a popular because it is very sad when people trying to sell crap under the guise of art.
I'll have a look on that Ivan. I don't think that it was meant to be sold as crap under the guise of art. This man had his vision about what he wanted but at the same time he was a wee bit crazy. Even on today's standards

No, I do not know.

2. Would you try listening to that album? Do you see any reason for existing something like that or it is just pure nonsense?

I will try and let you know how it went :) I don't think that anything in music is a nonsense - making music is a way of expressing yourself. If you need to do it like this - do it, maybe someone will like it, or not :)

3. What might be the reason for creating such an album these days?

Trying to express yourself in a such a weird way? I don't know

1. Hmm… I don’t listen to weird music. Maybe Disco polo or Hardbass?

2. I tried to listen to some fragments of it and they didn’t impress me. People’s creativity has no limits.

3. They create such music to gain popularity.
1. Called this album a progressive in this question is... to much :D
And no, it's the weirdest album I've ever listened to.
2. I listened to that album about 2 months ago and well... it was... interesting? But about reason- I think that it's funny and make me think about many things during listening to that. And art should work that way.
3. No idea. Maybe need for creating a new genre of music?

I'd say that KoRn really pushed the music industry forward by creating new genre called 'nu-metal'.

2. Would you try listening to that album? Do you see any reason for existing something like that or it is just pure nonsense?

Unfortunately I wouldn't. It's not my type of music, You know, the biggest reason to create such music are people enjoying listening to that.

3. What might be the reason for creating such an album these days?

Maybe trying to be unique? Nowadays it's hard to create something fresh and new, so maybe that's why they're trying to make something outstanding.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
