Week 9 [10.12-16.12.18] How nationalism and globalism can coexist?

The Internet has become ubiquitous and you can have friends all over the world or make global business. You can also order goods from China for attractive prices. We have become a global village. Millennials usually love following western culture standards and do not care that much  about their traditions. Here is a ted talk from Wanis Kabbaj with the topic of how we can continue getting perks of globalization and sustain nationalism at the same time

Questions:
1. Are you nationalist or globalist . Why?
2. Would you agree that you could be both? What challenges and opportunities can you see?
3. Do you think Earth government(no countries anymore) is a good idea? Why?

Comments

I actually strongly believe that the logical flow of future lies in the economical equality and total globalization. From the nation and country as in modern view I see only flag and etnicity as well as some traditions left. Some -- those that do not violate the rules of the Planet. Yes, we are different, with skin and hair colour, with eye shape and many other attributes. But it is time to form a civilization. In fact, it was a time long ago. In one of the lessons on this course it was mentioned that the world already switched from zero sum game to a positive sum game. Check out that video, if you have not already -- https://konwersatorium1-ms-pjwstk.blogspot.com/2018/11/week-7-26-021218-egoistic-altruism.html
I see myself as globalist but I can't say why exactly. Probably, I one of those followers of western standards (not culture) because usually it's something brand new and innovative.
I'm sure that I can be both because as I sad above I like to live in a modern society, which is western eastern countries, but I also respect my culture and traditions. It gives an amazing opportunity to be a versatile person.
Yes, I do think that it would be good idea but extremely difficult to implement. One of the positive sides is that the idea of Earth government could solve one of the oldest most terrible thing in the would - war.

Yep, read that and this is kind of next logical step towards brighter future

I am both. With some events happened for the last couple of years in my country, one can't just step aside and don't be a part of it, that's why I see myself as a nationalist. And, actually, this is the reason why I see myself as a globalist. That's, of course, in general. There are more smaller reasons for things to be like that.
As a subject of international relationships a country inside its borders should be more or less monolithic. People of that country must clearly see their place in the world to understand, where to improve and how to change or adapt. As you can see, here both nationalism and globalism are come in use.

I don't think the Earth Government s now a good idea. There will be a lot of separatist countries that could collapse the whole thing. And how will you integrate such countries like Russia, China, India, North Korea, USA, undeveloped African countries, what will you do with the tribal societies that still exist? And what kind of government should it be? Capitalistic? But what is capitalism without competition? Communistic, socialistic or fascistic? Unfortunately, we don't have the God-Emperor among us. I cannot see any possibilities for Earth Government nowadays.

I think that I'm rather globalist. I would definitely say that I'm not nationalist as I'm not really proud of my country and I don't indentify too much with it. I admire more other west or north-west countries like USA, France or Sweden.
I agree with that, thanks to the internet we can act globally - have international friends, read articles written by people living far away from us, participate in worldwide discussions. But still we can follow traditions of our country and identify with it.
In my opinion it wouldn't be a good idea - even now it is hard for governments to manage their countries, each country has its problems and one government wouldn't handle all of them.
I think I'm a globalist first - I love the idea of being a citizen of the world. To be able to move freely between places, to find work in some other country without much trouble. And to have access to the same entertainment and commodities as people in other parts of the world. Part of it comes from the internet. Regardless of where you are living, the internet is pretty much the same for you as for other people (with just some exception). So when I see someone able to buy something over the internet, it would be nice to have such an option as well.
But after watching this movie I can say I'm a nationalist as well. I'm proud to come from Poland although a bit ashamed by our current government and it's actions. Way too often we see nationalists as bad people - fascists, with no regard for other nations and no tolerance for others. But if we talk about proud, most of my friends would definitely sign up for being nationalists.
Regarding the idea of the Earth government, I don't really know. On one hand, it would be nice to have some global coordination to handle issues which are bigger then any single nation can handle - preserving nature, fighting global warming, disaster relief actions etc. On the other hand, I don't think a global government would be able to function quickly and decisively regarding local issues - that's why we prefer to have our own national governments. We know they will care about us. Of course, we have ONZ, which in a way is a good start for an Earth government, but it probably needs more power - so it can enforce its rulings. Right now those are more of a suggestion :)

I consider myself neither a globalist nor a nationalist - I don't think that binary classification like that is of particular use in everyday life - as most people have mixed views that are combinations of various ideologies. In a way, my views are similar to what is presented in the video, except that I think that instead of being both globalist and nationalist, we should be neither. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean by this, but trying to use both nationalism and globalism at the same time would still promote thinking in terms of nationalism and globalism, which I don't think is a good idea.

As for whether a global earth government would be a good idea, I don't think it is simply because it would be impossible to implement effectively. There's too many various cultures, ideologies and ways of thinking - it would be impossible to ever get people to agree on what is right, and that is just one on many problems that would make a global nation impossible.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
