Week 10 [25.05 - 31.05] Underwater Construction

Bridges, boulevards, ports, all have underwater elements. Underwater construction is very dangerous and not effective. Have you ever wondered how they were made? Modern engineering has several solutions that make this possible. Getting rid of water is probably the best solution, but there are many other options.
  1.  Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?
  2. Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?
  3. Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.

1. I’ve never wondered how underwater constructions are built, the film interested me very much because I didn't know any of the mentioned ways.
One solution would be to construct robots that could withstand underwater conditions, then the risk of such construction would be much smaller. In addition, new materials could be created that could be used underwater, unfortunately this is a vision of the distant future.

2. I can't imagine working as a diver, I'm not interested in diving at all. Besides, because I'm a woman, it's hard to work at a construction site.

3. Certainly our life here would be much calmer and with less pollution without this kind of engineering. On the one hand, modern technology makes it easier for us to move and everyday matters. Thanks to it we have modern cities and good access to them, on the other hand, I would prefer to live in a quiet village ...
1. First, a very interesting film. Although the topic is interesting, I have never been interested in how underwater constructions are built. In my opinion, the film presents all possible and logical approaches that engineers was able to come up with.

2. I like swimming and I like water, but I would not like to work as a diver. I know that this is a very well-paid job, in addition interesting and challenging. However, I think it is very dangerous.

3. To be honest, I've never thought about it. However, I can't imagine what the world would look like without modern engineering. Surely traveling would take more time. If there were no skyscrapers, the city would occupy a larger area, or we would all work remotely. The only thing I know is that life would be harder without modern engineering.
1) My personal idea was that some underwater constructions can be so heavy, that they could not be moved by water. The problem would be with the transport of such a construction, but big pontoons could be used to let it flow on the water before it is left in a final place.

2) It could be somehow interesting and entertaining for me, but working by the desk is a bit more comfortable for me :)

3) Yes, I wondered about that. That's why we always need constant progress. Some people say that what we have now is enough, but I believe that every small invention we make now might help a lot in the future.

I think we could use the Construction Submarines. There are already such machines like the D155W underwater bulldozer. But apparently it is much easier to build a dam and pump out water than using other solutions.

Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?

My friend is a welder and a diver. He told me that his work involves a lot of commitment. He often has to make exhausting journeys to the farthest corners of the world, he has to be able to work in extremely difficult conditions, he once managed to work under ice. He must have enormous psychological stamina in connection with such requirements.

Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.

I don't have to guess. Just look at the old photos and read the diaries. 100 or 200 years ago, people lived without such technology.
It seems to me that another way to do this is to cover with sand, pump out water. All in all, I don't have a sensible idea for that. I have heard that underwater breeders earn quite a lot, but I can't do it with my health. In addition, I prefer programming: P. In my opinion, if not for modern technologies, our lives would look completely different. A good example of these words is the capital of Saudi Arabia, which was established in the middle of the desert, and is one of the more developed cities of the world thanks to modern engineering.

1.
Not really, I'm not that interested in civil engineering.

2.
Even though I believe a diver is a job that pays very good, I wouldn't want to do that.
I think that it's quite dangerous, and a lot of things can get wrong when underwater, so the divers are risking their lives. Also I think that some people are afraid of large bodies of water, so it's not for everyone.

3.
Infrastructure is super important, unfortunately the maintanence of these structures is very often not financed well enough so a lot of bridges, roads, train traction are in a bad condition. I feel like we should be thankful for the engineers that do the work, and enable us to reap the benefits of modern infrastrucutre, but we also should make a change to put a bigger impact on maintaing it.

1. Do you think that robots could achive human's agility?
3. Even on a village there is a need for modern bridge. For example, do you imagine traveling twenty kilometers to a nearest shoal to cross the river?
Jakub Kisiała said…
It is possible that people would go in the opposite direction and start building deep into the earth. What do you think about it?
Jakub Kisiała said…
I think the development of these technologies is guided by the costs of their use.

What do you mean by cover with sand? Water would flow out when removing sand. It think it would not work.

Do you think a better idea is to repair old or build new elements of infrastructure?

1. Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?

Unfortunately, at the moment I have no other ideas to solve this problem. Of course, I think that sooner or later some possibilities will arise.

2. Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?

No, if diving is recreational not professional. I know that you earn good money for professional diving. But I don't like it.

3. Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.

These types of buildings have grown into our landscape so much that none of us can imagine life without such buildings. Maybe a few years ago, but not today.
Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?
I believe these are the best ways since they have been implemented and have been working properly for many years now.

Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site? No I wouldn’t like to work as a driver on a construction site however I would like to participate or witness the planning process and implementation of some of the big constructions that took place in the world.

Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.
I haven’t thought of this until now and I think life would be very difficult since most of the results of modern engineering is for simplifying our lives.

1. I have never thought about the problem of building a constructions in water. The video seemed very interesting to me because I didn't know how it is done.

2. No, I wouldn't even like to work as a "normal" diver. I think I would fall into some kind of claustrophobe quickly. I am not suitable for this type of work.

3. No, I've never thought about it. I think that every year there will be more and more new constructions and you just have to accept it.
Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?
I think the solutions mentioned in the video are the best ways of solving that particular problems. I couldnt think of any other, better ways of doing things underwater.

Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?
Probably no. As said in the video it is a dangerous job and sometimes in cold waters and i really hate cold water :p

Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.
Oh yes. I apreciate it so much that as civilization we came so far and constructions as big bridges and high scrapers are so amazing and convinient for us. It would be so much harder to live without it.
1. Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?
Unfortunately, I don’t have any other ideas to solve this problem. I’m not an expert and don’t have required knowledge. I think the proposed methods mentioned in this video are good. Maybe in the future someone will invent new better method to build underwater constructions.

2. Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?
No, I wouldn’t. I can’t swim. I think this job is not for me. I know that working as a diver I could have a great adventure and maybe I would have fun. I think It’s not an easy job but who love diving will be satisfied.

3. Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.
To be honest I have never wondered about that. I think some products available thanks to modern engineering are not necessary. Some of them are dangerous to environment eg. oil platform. I think without the modern engineering we wouldn’t have big comfortable houses or bridges.

1. Not really, it's not something i have ever thought about, and i don't have knowledge necessary to even try to solve the problem.
2. I believe this line of work would be too dangerous for me, so i wouldn't like to work as a diver.
3. I haven't, but thinking about it living in a world without modern engineering would be difficult. I really can't imagine world without something as important as bridges.
1 / I think that very smart people working in this industry have already come up with everything for me. But I could offer options using submarines or transportation using drones or special technologies.

2 / No, it would be very difficult for me, with my phobia of water.

3 / Many have thought about this, I most often imagine life before as in the Middle Ages or on the scale of the apocalypse.

1. I have never thought about how underwater constructions are made, and right now I’m amazed how we are dealing with it right now so I don’t have any other ideas on how other ways could be used.
2. Not really, I would like to see some old boat which have sink years ago or swim witch dolphins but working as a diver on a construction isn’t my dream job.
3. Actually no, and I think it’s hard to imagine right now that we don’t have all those constructions or even that knowledge.
Hello, here are my replies to your questions!

1. I'm honestly in no position to think of any other possible solutions since I didn't study anything related to underwater constructions. I can give simple answers like "you could use submarines for building some elements" but knowing how complicated and full of rules is the process of building a standard building, I know that building a building underwater is even harder and simple ideas are just too simple for that process.

2. Not really, I would be scared of what's below me in the dark waters and I'd hate to drown if something went wrong. I think that drowning and being burnt alive are the worst possible ways of dying.

3. We'd probably still live in huts and the cities would be much wider in scale since more houses would be needed to be built in order to fit in all of the citizens. Also the views would be boring.
1. Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?
I’m sorry, I have no idea how to solve this problem in other ways.
2. Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?
No, I would not it’s too dangerous a job for me I also would not work on skyscraper construction
3. Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.
I don’t need to wonder what our life would look like without modern engineering I just need to watch History channel about old days and read some historical books. Once there was no such technology and such life are well described by historians.
1. I've never been interested in this topic so it's difficult for me to comment
2. I think this work isnt monotonous, it probably has a lot of flaws, the work depends on weather, if you have cold, the work is difficult or impossible, but it is certainly original so I could try
3. I think that with current population it would be much harder, an example is Hong Kong where a lot of people live in a small area
Do you have any other ideas on how to solve this problem in other ways?

To be honest, no. I have been thinking about how it was built, but I am not an expert or nearly knows enough to have y ideas on how to solve problems like this.

Would you like to work as a diver on a construction site?

To be honest, no. I like my job as a programmer, when you sit in your home/office with a comfort and type some symbols in your laptop. It is a less dangerous, more relaxing and comfortable job.

Have you ever wondered what our life would look like without modern engineering? Skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels.

To be honest, no. I cannot imagine our life without all those skyscrapers, metro, bridges, etc. I am too used to it and cannot imagine how life would like without it.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
