Week 5 [12-18.11.18] Music also can be a medicine

Music is one of the oldest ways to improve our health and our mood.
Already in antiquity, people eagerly used the medicinal properties of music. Also today, music is a medicine and is used in the treatment of various diseases. Doctors noticed that therapy by music can be useful in the treatment of numerous neurological and psychiatric disorders. In fact, therapy by music can be effective in Parkinson's patients.

Active music therapy stimulates motor, affective and behavioural functions. This can be proposed as a method in Parkinson's rehabilitation programs. What's more, special kind of music can improve the precision of hand and finger movements. An additional problem for people with Parkinson's is shaking hands, which is caused by stress. What is important, research has shown that relaxing music has significantly reduced body shaking

What's more, music treatment is also helpful in treating autism. Music is extremely valuable in multilateral stimulation and support the development of an autistic child. Because music contains many elements such as: rhythm, harmony, melody, phrasing or dynamics and this order and structure of the melody, where every sound and every musical expression has its place, for this reason stimulates interest and gains the attention of an autistic child. In addition, music is often the only source that gives the opportunity to establish a dialogue with a child suffering from autism. In conclusion, the music has therapeutic properties.

However, it is worth remembering that music also has relaxation properties. The Researchers have proved that listening  music improves our mood. Many people in difficult times also when they are nervous prefer listening to music. Free, calm melodies aim to relax muscles and relax the body. For example, music like the sounds of nature e.g. the sea, forest or birds - is associated with the relief of nerves. In the case of increased stress, classical music also works. On the other hand, listening to a rhythmic, fast melody improves mood, and is used to treat depression. In the treatment of depression, you choose music that will be associated with something nice.

In addition, music helps in concentration. According to specialists, a classical music is the best to work or study. Thanks to the high frequency of sound, our brain stimulates to action. The high frequency of music makes the brain better absorb information, relax and work more efficiently. Therefore, listening to the classical music is recommended to people who have problems with concentration and those who are still learning.

Composing music also has an good affect our mood. Playing on the musical instruments causes the development of motor skills. For example, many people who have suffered brain damage, for example after stroke, have confirmed the benefits of learning to play instruments. Playing musical instruments also helps in controlling impulses and social interactions. In addition, stroke patients have also shown significant improvement in function.

As you can see, music can be an excellent remedy for both our body and our soul.

Yes, there are some songs that helps me to relax but generally every song gives me some emotions.
I think that I can agree that music can be medicine. I do think so because emotions are very important thing in our lives. When we go to psychologist, he also is working with our emotions. Then, why music can’t be a medicine if it’s interfering with our emotions.
For me music is quite important because whenever I’m working in garage, working on computer or driving a car I need it. Also I love to dance on wedding so my answer is YES!

1. Yes, music definitely helps to relax. Especially when you are emotionally loaded. It allows to shift your mindset to a different topic, getting more relaxed and calm. Of course it depends on the type of music. Everybody has his own preferences.
2. Taking the point from number one, yes it can. People with treatment of numerous neurological and psychiatric disorders can be helped by relaxing with music.
3. It's very important for me due to the face that I listen to music everyday. It allows me to change my mood based on the type of music I choose. Also it brings up memories from old times so it can be used as a mnemonic. E.g. Japanese music which I got to know in Tokio.

1. Yes, music helps me to relax. It's a little bit strange, but exactly heavy music helps me in this.

2. Not quite sure. I think auto-suggestion (eg. placebo) will play a bigger role than any "magical" abilities. Music can help to distract from the disease and relax, but personally, I do not believe that it can cure.

3. Music for me has recently become more important than ever before. Of course I listen to it everyday, but also I started making it and it is really exciting. I've never thought that I would do it.
That was interesting article. And I was very impressed when seen the old man who has a Parkinson's and without music, he barely moved but after nurse turned on the music, he even started dance. It was very unexpected for me. I'm agreeing with you that music relax. I like listening to music, because it helps to forget about problems and just relax. After your article I'm absolutely agreeing that music can be a medicine. For me music is very important. How I wrote previously it helps to relax also it could help to raise mood.
Yes, music not only allows me to relax, but also to focus on work.
I think that the statement that music can be medicine is real. Although it will not cure serious diseases, it has a positive effect on the patient and his psyche. In my opinion, it certainly helps in stress problems or in situations with a nervous breakdown.
Music is very important to me. You can sometimes break away from problems and find yourself in a different world. Thanks to this, you can look at your problems from a different perspective. Often the music has some message or text to help see someone's perspective on various situations, eg male-female relationships. Music, therefore, not only soothes the senses, but also can teach and expand our emotional sensitivity.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. When I made my first computer game as a kid, a character who represented me in it had a guitar as a weapon, thet used different melodies to either hypnotize and damage/disable foes or heal and buff allies.

Music can be a treatment. It is a well known fact that under the effect of a classical music the plants grow more, the cows produce better milk, and people have their parkinsons and depression eased. No point of even discussing it -- it has been prover by various researches over time.

Personally I always listen to some Mozart before my exams. It actually stimulates brain. Confirmed.

I'm always listening to music when Im doing something that involves thinking. Even now I'm listening to some playlist on youtube. It helps me to think better and relax, to let my thoughts float and come to me easly. I think music is relaxing and is really big part of my life because nowadays music is playing almost everywhere. Happy music helps you forget about your problems and sad music gives you back your sad memories from past. Music can do a lot of things and is really interesting when you think about it.

As I said music can bring you some emotions happiness, sadness or even make you angry. Because of that and what I read I think that music can be some sort of medicine and when you are listening to right music it can have positive impact on your health and be some sort of medicine.

Music is really important to my and my lifestyle. I don't go anywhere without my headphones because I don't like silence ( except the time when I sleep ;) ). I think that people who say that music don't matter to them and it does nothing to their life they didn't have a chance to think about that to be honest. I don't know the music name or a performer but I consociate music from listening to it. I'm not a music geek but I love listening to new piece of art.

Does music help you relax?

Yes it does. I don't think that there is anything better for me to relax with. Cup of tea, headphones, some good music. It helps me clear my mind or focus it on certain type of mood that I am seeking. Also I use it to get ideas for stories and scenarios that I write.

Do you agree with that music can be a medicine?

Yes of course. At least music helps our state of mind. It is no joke when people say that positive attitude helps to get over with illness. What is more, music is like a drug for our brain that seems to have no negative impact at all. When you see a brain scan of someone listening to music it is like watching new years eve fireworks.

How important is music for you?

Very. To relax, when I am learning, playing. I also use it to get a mood that I want to have. For example, power metal is THE BEST before and during workout. On the other hand I feel extremely calm when listening to space ambient for example. Or rege when I want to feel light-headed. I can't imagine world without music.

Yes, listening to music is very important to me, and it gives you peace of mind and attention in your daily activities and activities. One of my daily habits is listening to music.
Research in 2015 showed that patients who listened to music before, during and after the surgery had less pain and anxiety than those who did not listen to music. Listening to music in any situation is painful, but researchers say listening to music before the surgery has better results. The reviewer reviewed information gathered from more than 7,000 patients, and those who listened to the music had used less drugs to relieve their pain. When the patient was allowed to choose the music he liked, even better results were recorded.
Listening to soft and relaxing music can be an effective way of overcoming stress, and that's what science has proven to be. In a study conducted in 2013, participants were identified in one condition before being exposed to stress and then tested for psychosocial stress. Some people listened to a relaxing music, some did not hear the sound of small water waves, and the rest did not receive any hearing aids. The results showed that listening to music influenced human response to stress, especially on the automated nervous system. People who listened to relaxing music, after experiencing stress, were able to quickly recover their mental condition.
1. Yes, sure it dose. Especially when I got to bed I like to play some ambient. It helps me to calm down and fall asleep faster. Some times I can listen to ambient while Im working or studying.
2. I'm not able to agree or disagree that music can be a medicine. Definitely a particular music helps people to feel more relaxed. But does it possess a power to cure some real disease ? In my opining it is more about placebo thing which we discussed earlier. By that I mean if a doctor says that music can reduce some set of symptoms, for sure there will be some people who will have positive outcome.
3. Just few year ago I was totally dependent on music. I had to listen to it everywhere and every time. There was no way that I could leave the house without headphones. Today, there no such need in music and if for example I forgot to take my dependent I will be fine. But still I can't work or study without some background sounds.

Music helps me relax, especially classical music and rock.

I agree that music can be a medicine. If you feel grief, anger, pain etc listening to music can help you to deal with that.

Music is quite important to me, but I wouldn't call myself a music lover.
Unknown said…
Yes of course. I want to thank for the topic of the article, I am very interested in this topic. Music is very important to me, rather even sounds. My mood will depend on music.
My opinion is that music plays a smaller role than its sound. Perhaps you have already heard that the sounds of dolphins are used in the treatment of the nervous system, which have a positive effect on the central nervous system. Melodies that bring joy to slow down the pulse, increase the strength of heart contractions, promote vasodilation and normalization of arterial pressure and irritating music has the opposite effect. Instrumental music has a beneficial effect not only on humans but also on animals and even plants. In general, a person perceives sounds from the 14th day of his life in his mother’s tummy. Ornithotherapy - treatment with birdsong. Scientists say that listening to birds singing helps to balance all the processes that constantly occur in the body. The human body and mind come to a state of harmony. I often listen to YouTube on different music with the sound of water or the singing of birds when I work, it helps me to concentrate.
1. Does music help you relax?
Music can stimulate our brain in various ways, mostly based on the genre and our personal perception. So yes, sure. Some kinds of music do help me relax.

2. Do you agree with that music can be a medicine?
Sure thing. There are numerous studies proving how helpful can music therapy be in improving health or functional outcomes.
3. How important is music for you?
I usually listen to music whenever I want to focus on something like playing / reading. It, however, also helps to stimulate the brain while wandering around on your own.

Music is one of most important subject to me. I love it and i love to discover new styles and artists. I listen to music while doing almost anything, starting from playing on pc, working etc. ending with taking shower. It help me relax so much. When i forget my headphones im almost frustrated while using public transport and so i have to hear all those ppl shouting around. If it helps to relax it is already a medicine. It makes your stress go away so it help with your heart, with your mind etc. Even if it doesnt have direct impact it is very helpfull.

I am not a big fan of any band or any specific type of music, so the music is not very important to me. The music helps me to detach yourself from reality and think more clearly.

Yes, I agree and in fact, many psychiatrists use music to help people with stress, anxiety or PTSD. It's no secret that melodic sound waves can stimulate different parts of our brain which in turn can not only help us relax but also help to be more productive.
I listen to music at least for an hour a day, so I think I'm quite used to it and can say that it takes an important part in my daily life routine, but sometimes I also get annoyed with it and could not listen to it for an entire day.

Yes, music helps me relax. Also it helps me concentrate and start make some task that I need. Genres music that I listen depends on the task. Music is one of the best invention of humanity. It helps me not only to relax, but sometimes it helps to get rid of negative emotions that often grow in my mind. How I do it? I go to the hardcore or punk rock party where I can deeply dive to mosh dance. Sometimes it's quite danger but it's worth it.

I think you can't cure pox by listen to music, but it definitely has a positive effect to people's psychological impact.

I don't know how to answer how is music important to me. It is very important but I think that I can imagine my life without it. But definitely I would be very sad if music disappeared.

My way of using music is to control my mood so it's like an tool in my arcenal. For example right now im listening to music on spotify in background to set my mind in kind of flow to help me concentrate. Also have app on my phone called Ambient to generate noises to help me relax before going to sleep with some rain or thunderstorm noises.
Yes, music most definitely help me to relax. I almost always wear headphones during workouts, studying, driving and etc. Good music can easily cheer me up, when I have tough days certain music can help me to solve my inner problems and for me it's not just a saying. I think, in my "music library" I will always find a song which represents my mood and current state of mind. So yes, music and creating of it - is a pretty huge part of my life.
Yes, I totally agree that music can be a medicine. And it's very cool that music is used in treatment of Parkinson's and other serious diseases.
As I mentioned above , music is really important for me. I often go to music concerts and festivals.

Music is an important "entity" in my life. Not only it helps me relax its there for me when i need it, since im not a "phone zombie" in the conventional manner i do need something to keep me busy while commute and music is on of the best ways to do so. It also helps me ignore other peoples problems, we tend to talk about everything on the trains, buses etc. so with my headphones in i can ignore stories told around me that i dont really want to hear. I can see how and why music could be considered a medicine in an slightly unconventional way, and more power to those who might need it.
In my case, music calms me down, lets me relax.
and just as for you, music is important to me because i danced professionally
Music can concentrate in its own way and relieve tension during work or other duties and as you mentioned, you like to dance. I too! :)
The film made an impression on me and inspired me to write this article.
That's why in my opinion music is a medicine and it's effective!

I am very impressed if you can say something more about your game?

Music means a lot for me. I can listen to it all the time. When I want to relax I play some calm rhythms and just chill. In my opinion, music is a medicine in some way. I know a few people that had depression and music helped them a lot. You can pass many feeling with music. For me, music is very important. It helped me a lot in my life. I'm not closed to one type of music. It depends a lot on the song and of course on my current mood. Actually, I listen to everything that sounds good for me.

As you mentioned, music definitely influences emotions!
what do you think about treating Parkinson with music?
Because for me it is something amazing
I do not agree with you, look at the video that shows how music cures Parkinson's.
Or does it help children in their ailments, for example autism.

The music can relax me, put to sleep, awaken, upset or depress me. The music has a huge impact on my frame of mind. Thanks to it we can control human feeling on big events like wedding or funeral.
Music can certainly heal the people but this kind of medicine is included in unconventional medicine. I am sure that you have ever heard about waves of the appropriate frequency which can change the work of your brain eg there is this kind of drugs that when you listening special track then you are high.
Music has always been in my life and mainly I associate each song with the memory.
Music is really important to me. I could not imagine my work without it. I'm one of those people who can lay down on their bad and just listen to music for hour or two. Really relaxing ;) Also I found music really helpful while boxing or jogging. When it comes to medical aspect I think that I would stay to old good fashioned drugs.
Music definitely help me to relax and I love to listen music almost always. Almost because I can’t really listen to it while I’m working on something that require to be very focused on. For example, I can’t listen to music while programming because I need all my brain to focus on a task and music just distract me. But in any other situation music is my thing. I think that music can help people while they are sick to relax them, motivate them because great emotions are associated with music. But I’m not sure if music can be a medicine itself. For me music is very important part of my life. I listened to music since I can remember and always, I took great pleasure from it. I mostly listen to rock and metal music so for me the lauder the music is the more fun I get from it.

Well of course my favorite artist helps me relax. I especially like violin music. Never is great quartet it’s called vitamin string quarters (vsq). They play all kinds of covers of known and liked songs. Of course music can be in medicine. Music helps me to organize my thoughts. When I listen to something and I don’t have to pay attention to it, I can link some information that to some specific part of song. For example when I learn I use only one playlist. Later on it helps me to memorize things.

Some music certainly helps me relax - different music is better for different things or moods. I definitely agree that music can be used as medicine - emotions are very imporant for many things, such as depression, and music can be used to manipulate or amplify mood and emotions very effectively. Music is also quite important for me - why I don't listen to it constantly, good music helps me enjoy many activities more as well as help me concentrate in certain cases.

Yes, music helps to relax. After a hardworking day there’s nothing better than just lay in bed for a 20 minutes and listen to some calm and chill music.
Music for sure can be a medicine in many ways. I think it can help people with mental health problems, people with insomnia, also playing musical instruments helps to develop an ear for music and it was proven, that people that can play musical instruments also became better at other arts, like singing, painting and etc.
I cannot live without music. Music helps me relax, studying, exercise, motivate myself, deal with my problems. It cures my bad mood and helps me motivate myself. A day without my headphones is a bad day :D
Music definitely helps me relax, or focus if needed, depending on the genre. I listen to music pretty much all the time i am engaged in some activity. I am sure that music influences a listener in some ways that are not completely researched, but if even subjectically music makes you feel better i think it can be counted as medicine, although i would not recommend to use music to treat some serious diseases =3. Music is pretty much my constant follower in life, so it's pretty important.

Of course, music helps me relax is a fantastic thing to be able to lie down, close my eyes and turn on my music.
as much as possible in the world there is more and more unconventional medicine and I am for that.
I could live without it, but it would definitely be more sad even if I was driving a car, not listening to music.

2. I am not sure that we can treat it as a type of medicine but in my opinion it can helps our mind so if we see relation between our mind and our body maybe we can agree with this statement.

3. Music is very important in my life and I have to admit that it helps me a lot. As I already said I always learn with music because without it it would be really hard to focus. When I am angry or sad music motivates me.

Music is indeed a medicine for our minds. It can help you with studying, make you more focused or more energetic if you want. But the most important: it can help you with stress so I can agree with that- music can be a medicine.
For me music is very important. In work I'm constantly listening to something. For me it's a tool that helps me beeing more productive or helps me relax.
Im listening to music during housework, cooking, studying... or even when I'm playing the guitar (in this situation only ambient or game soundtracks). So it's very important to me. But I still appreciate real life soundtrack :)

For decades people're mostly listening to music for entertainment, relaxation etc.

1. Does music help you relax?: Definitely yes, it does. I listen the music while I am doing my daily staff like working, driving a car, cooking or having a shower. I have my special music list to relax. After a long day I like to give myself a break and listen my favorite music. This time a day recovering me and preparing for next intensive day.

Of course, it does! It's one of the best ways of relaxing in a comfortable place. Just put earphones, play some relaxing music, and you feel good as hell.

I agree that music can be a medicine. However, I think that it won't cure you. It's a nice addition that can speed up the, but you cannot replace everything with it.

I listen to music every day, so I can say it's a significant impact on my day. As we know, depending on what sort of music we listen I can impact on us differently. For example, we can boost our body and motivation listening to a special playlist made for a workout.
Music is an integral part of our life. Music helps us in everything. As described in the article, music has healing properties. And it has been tested on itself. When things for me were very bad, I listened to classical music that helped me to recover. When I work, I turn on some kind of background music, it helps me concentrate. Music helps time go by faster when you are traveling as well.

Music accompanies me at every step of my life. I can play suitable kind of music for every mood I have. I belong to this kind of people who listen every genre of music, starting with classic music and ending with hard metal. On the Youtube we can find pleasant playlists with relaxing music, which I use when I’m going to bed or just reading a book. This music lower stress level which inseparable part of our life. Music and playing instrument improve the work of our brain, stimulate the senses and creativity. Every sound created by yourself lead to activation of both left and right hemisphere of the brain. As author mentioned for instance parkinson, autism are nervous system diseases and special treatment or rehabilitation with music can help in the battle against the disease. Since I was eight I have played guitar. In every sad day I take it and start playing. Then whole stress go far away from me. I couldn’t live without music.

Music is really important to me - it helps me isolate from the ‘outside world’ when I need to relax, collect my thoughts or concentrate. It also reflects my sense of aesthetics and the way I see the world. I would agree, to some extent, that it could be regarded as medicine, as it may have positive effects on your mental well being and mood.
Yes, music help me relax in most cases and I listen to it very often.

Yes, I'm agree with that music can be a medicine but generally it has effect placebo (in my own opinion). Because once I have listen to music in my childhood and I felt better at that time but I can't explain why that has happen. So I think that sometimes music can help us feel better.

Music help me to work because my brain dive in to special state when I can sit in one place and don't move a lot but still feel good and be satisfied in my surrounding.
If the article interested you, take a look at other videos related to the Parkinson's treatment with music.

I have a lot of playlists for every kind of mood I'm in.

2. Do you agree with that music can be a medicine?
Yes, I agree. I think that there is a possibility that music is able to cure some problems with psyche etc. One thing I'm sure - music can get you out of depression, as well as it's able to get you into depression. Music is a powerful weapon.

3.How important is music for you?
Music is one of the most important things in my life. I just love it and many types of it.
I'm listening to rock, metal, heavy metal, nu metal, rap, electro and more.
I have something about 130 original CD's of my favorite bands/artists.
1.It definitely helps me relax. If I want to chill a bit I will just put my headphones on and lay down on my bed. Of course first I have to choose proper songs. I don't use the same playlist for gym and relaxation obviously.

2.I think that music can be a medicine. Especially when illness is connected with our psychological condition.

3.It's hard to tell. I listen to music everyday so I guess it must be quite important in my life. Definitely it has impact on me but I don't know how big actually.

Does music help you relax?
Yes, it definitely helps me to relax. First of all you should choose proper genre. For each person there is a genre and its own music that can well affect his nervous system. I really think that music can be cure for the mind.
Well, when I was little I had that period of nightmares. And my father turned on chilling jazz for me with sounds of the sea, so it's culms me down and I had really great dreams. So even now when I feel really bad it calms me down. I feel more safety and started think clearly. I guess this type of music means a lot for me.

It's good to know that music before surgery works. As I wrote in the article Music cures :)
As a musician, I can tell that music means for me a lot. I’m a guitar player. I started playing the guitar 6 years ago and have been part of a group as a solo guitarist for 4 years. So, music it’s a part of my life and even now, when I’m now playing in any group, I practice playing for 10 hours per week.
So does music help me to relax?
Of course yes. When I am spending time on learning a new song or just listening to music it makes me feel ‘out of the world’, just me and music. But I can’t listen to music during some other work, because then I could not concentrate on that work.
Music could be a perfect medicine from stress, but it depends on the kind of music.

WOW, I did not know that the sound of dolphins can be used as a medicine nice!!!
I have to try it because I think sometimes it's not good with my nervous system :) :) :)

How well do I remember once you told me how you were dj :)

Does music help you relax?
Yes! I am very vulnerable to music and vibes streamed from song I listen to. That's why I play some slow, relaxing songs when I want to chill out.

Do you agree with that music can be a medicine?
Yes, everything is in our head and music affects us deep inside our mind. I cannot explain the exact process, but I strongly believe that music may be the pill for everything we need.

How important is music for you?
It is not as important as it was few years ago, but it still my morning choice while commuting to work. It is also my go to place when I need to recall some feelings or to return into some psychology state.

Music does play an important role in my life, after a long and tiring day listening to one of my favourite records can indeed prove soothing.

Apparently there have been cases which argue music had been beneficial for patients health, possibly it is true.

Music is immensely important to me as I enjoy playing instruments by myself as well as in a bigger ensemble.

What kind of genres are you into? Do you play electric or acoustic? Personally I play drums and guitar for almost a decade now, could be fun to jam if you'd be into it.
