Week 5 [05-11.11.18] Fighting games

This story begins from the early days of one boy’s life. He was a child who loved to play all sorts of games. And one day, parents decided to buy him a present. It was Sega Mega Drive 2. Video games started to be a huge part of his childhood. There were many games which he played with his brother and friends. And then he found on his hands a few games in the same genre. There were “Mortal Kombat 3” and “Street Fighter 2”. After sometime this boy fell in love with them and played nonstop alone and in the company. However, even after mastering those games, he could not find a way to satisfy himself while fighting with his friends. That why he stopped playing.

Few years passed. Arcade machines appeared in his town and lots of children were playing there for a long time. That boy became interested to check them. There he saw a game where children were standing in the long queue. It was “Tekken 3”. The story repeated itself but with one difference. At that place, he met strong opponents and that was a way which he was lacking then, people with the similar skill and mindset which helped them to create a small community.

Nowadays, there is a lot of games and a lot of communities that are full of people. Each genre has its own huge base around some of the games from it. But for almost 10 years fighting games was a niche genre. When home consoles became popular, people stopped visiting arcade machines and thus that kind of small communities could not be created. There was lack of interest in playing genre which took a huge amount of time to master without competing with people.
That all started to change after Capcom released “Street Fighter 4” in 2008 which was the beginning point of returning this genre popularity. This game becomes easier to master and had online multiplayer which replaced arcade machine experience. A big number of gamer decided to try them. And fighting games started to gain popularity.

Skipping to this days, the fighting genre is still rising in popularity from that date and with new games such as “Dragon Ball Fighterz”, “Mortal Kombat XL”, “Street Fighter V” and “Tekken 7” ceases to be a niche in the gaming industry. With the increasing number of player and tournament scene, this genre soon will be the competitor to be one of the most popular.

1. I really like this type of fighting games for consoles. Especially to start playing the game is very easy. Controlls can be explained in a minute and the perfect evening with friends is set up. I even used to play with my sister in childhood which was a lot of fun. In my last holidays I was in Japan were I experience the famous arcade game places. It was a blast. So many fighting games just on one floor, playing against each other with friends was a lot of fun. But the japanese people were on another level. We had no chance at all :D We played Tekken 7, by the way. So if you are looking for good competitors I definelty recommed to visit these kind of places in Tokio(Shibuya and Shinjuku).
2. I just experienced Mortal Kombat and Tekken and I have to admit that Tekken is still my favorite one!

1. Fightings are very interesting if you play in the company of friends. When I play alone, they become boring, literally in 1-2 matches. I also heard that thanks to them you can express your aggression and calm down. Of the games in this series, I prefer Mortal Kombat (quite obviously, I know).

2. My favorite genre is horror and post-apocalyptic. The most interesting for me is Metro games and a couple of co-op games.
1. What do you think about fighting games?
I think fighting games are fun to play, but only with friends, while playing alone they become dull quite fast (even while playing multiplayer).

2. Which game is your favorite?
My favorite one is Tekken, first time I was playing it on PSP (PlayStation Portable) with my friends in primary school, it was a great game for all school trips.
Have you heard of the new SoulCalibur release? It is awesome, try it out.
My opinion about fighting games is the same as for any kind of games -- it is a form of art. Even until today I still play MKX and Mortal Combat Complete with by dad and younger brothers.
Among the fighting games my favourite is, probably, the Mortal Combat 3. Amongst all of the games -- it is definitely Bloodborne.
I like to play a fighting game sometimes. I think that such games are cool, but there should be age restrictions on the use of such games. It may seem that this is nothing that can affect the child's psyche, however many games are very drastic and can have a negative impact on the child. This can also manifest itself in a lack of empathy, being aggressive or not distinguishing between good and evil. The child does not understand that there are several lives in the game and only one in life.

Mortal Combat is a very cool game for me.

1. What do you think about fighting games?
I immediately remember my childhood, as my sister and I played at night in Mortal Kombat. It really helps to release aggression. This game is multiplayer (for 2 players) and company history, only to learn how to play.

2. Which game is your favorite?
A series of games Bioshock, the first two of which are good, beautiful and atmospheric shooters with an unusual plot and charismatic characters, while the third part of the series is primarily a very cool story, but rather two Booker Devitto and one girl Elizabeth.

I remember the days that when I was young few of my friends were coming over and we all sat in the living room in front of tv and played fighting games all day. This type of games were really brutal and maybe we shouldn't have played them but few hours won't do us harm. I think it's a great time consuming thing that is also improving your reflex and preceptivity. I will always remember this hours, one of my best times.

I think my favourite game is Mortal Combat where I loved to play as Raiden and delete everyone from the game using lightning power. I liked Baraka too when I didn't know how to play because it last to click one button and you were always winning because of his blades range. Then I played Mortal Combat with DC universe characters where I liked Deathstroke and Joker. I played a lot of this type of games on my PSP too and mostly in Tekken and SoulCalibur. If you didn't know about those games I highly recommend you try them out.

I suck at fighting games, but I like them. I've played Mortal Kombat IX and X, I have a gameboy version of Mortal Kombat III and Tekken, once I've even played Tekken on arcade machine. I've played new SoulCalibur a couple of times, and I think I liked it the most. But, as I said, fightings are not my kind of games, I am the person of strategies. I prefer games like Starcraft, Supreme Commander, Stronghold Crusader, Stellaris (basically every Strategy with names starting from S XD). But I always ready for virtual punch exchange if there is somebody to play with.

I like playing fighting games especially with friends. There is a fierce competition between gamers and when it comes to fighting it's even bigger. I do not play a lot, propably only when my firends visit me. What is funny about fighting games that you don't have to know how to play to be good at it :D Many of my friends beats me clicking random buttons when I try to do clever moves. Recently my favourite game is Injustice 2 because there are many superheroes i like.

I think that fighting games are really fun to play. Gaming industry without Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken wouldn't be the same.

It's really hard question, but I think that my favourite game right now is Batman: Arkham City. I really like the combat system, the plot was also pretty good and the most important thing is that you can play as Batman.

I used to play fighting games, however, I'm not a big fan of such genre. I rather prefer MMORPG and games with the open world. It's hard to choose which game is my favorite one, as I played only a few during my life and all of them were really excited. I would like to try Red Dead Redemption 2, as it seems for me, based on feedbacks once which already played, that this is the greatest game of nowadays.
1. What do you think about fighting games?
I think that despite many opinions stating that it encourages people to aggression it is a very good way of releasing the negative emotions. Such games also have a competitive factor which the need of fulfillment may not be accessible in the real life in a healthy manner. Therefore, such games may also contribute towards allowing people to feel and prove themselves their worth – in a primitive way but still.

2. Which game is your favorite?
I personally like Tekken and Mortal Combat. They have pretty complex animations and are very enjoyable due to amount of people competing online.

I think that most fighting games are great when you meet with your friends and want to spend some time on your console ;) Games like street fighters, mortal combat or injustice are quite easy to learn - you can basically pick up gamepad and start playing. Also fighting games are very often fun for people who do not consider themself as gamers. My favourite ones are Mortal Combat ( mostly because I'm playing it since childhood) and fighting games that are inspired by popular shonnen animes like Dragon Ball, Naruto or Boku no Hero Academia.

I really enjoy playing fighting games with my friends. I have spent a lot of time with my friends playing Mortal Combat. I think that those type of games are more suitable for companies rather than single players. Spending time playing fighting games is a good way of emotional relief and is a good break between hard work.

I am not a big fan of these kinds of games. The fighting games in my opinion are a great games to play it with friends on the couch. I used to play: Tekken, Street Fighter, Dragon Ball and Mortal Combat.

Now I prefer to play adventure games with great graphics and story.
I was a big fan of soul calibur and mortal combat. What is surprising i never liked tekken. Don't ask me why, i can't really tell. As i said, i was a big fan but now i don't really care. I think it is good party game as matches are quick and pvp is always exciting. But, when i got my hands on Mortal Comat X i haven't even finish single player campaign nither complete any achivment online. It's just not my type i think.

Currently, I don't play fighting games. But once I loved playing them on old machines. I think that these are very cool games for meetings, where in such games can play 2 people, and even now probably and more. It is a great time.

I like Tekken the most, I remember playing it on old Arcade machines and how much joy it made. Now I know that there is a new version and I will definitely play it one day, but I don't want to do it at the moment
Now, I rarely play games, but fighting games are always preferable and in "my heart". I personally perceive these games only as "gatherings with friends". Generally, I think, this genre is funny and ease to play, almost any person can learn the basics of play of this type of games in 5 minutes. Those games are the best way to relax and chill with your friends after busy day. Overall, only good memories .
My favorites are: obviously "Mortal Combat" series, "Tekken" series and maybe "Naruto".
I think fighting games are very good entertainment for meetings with friends. Almost everyone can learn the controls immediately and rules are very simple. I play regularly with my friend in Naruto game. It is not strictly fighting game like Tekken or Street Fighter but it is very similar. Although I don’t understand people who spend hundreds of hours to master such games.
As I said before, I often play in Naruto and this is probably my favourite fighting game. It has 3D isometric view on battlefield and characters can move freely on it, but on all other aspects are similar to games like Tekken. Players can choose their character from wide range of characters from original Naruto series. Fighting itself is very satisfying, graphic mimics anime style and gameplay provides lot of fun.

I think that Fighting it’s interesting genre of games. You can play solo, with 1 or 3 your friends, create your own small tournament, just play for fun. Fighting it’s good genre for party because rounds are fast, it’s possible to play fours at the same time, no one get bored. Also you can train your brain by memorization of combinations and fatalities and train your reaction by blocking opponent's punches.
My favorite fighting is Mortal Combat X, because graphics is cool, there many new animations of specials, X-RAY’s and fatalities, new maps, new styles of fight.
I'm not really into fighting games but I had a chance to play some. I remember in the old days playing "Mortal Kombat" when it first showed up on arcade machines. Already at that time, I realized those games are not really for me. Knowledge of all the moves and combos and proper execution was not really appealing for me, far too often I was on a receiving end of those - unable to do any moves as my opponent was executing a flurry of blows.
I also remember playing Soulcalibur, Street Fighter, Tekken and some other titles, but I was never an avid fighting games player. But if I have to choose one title, it probably will be Street Fighter. I think it just looks the best, has some iconic characters and moves (Hadoken!) and always was the most fun for me.
I used to play games a lot but never been a fan of fighting games. OF course, I heard about them and know them quite a bit, but I played fighting games only a few times. In my opinion, there is something very interesting in those games, but only when you play with your real friends, sitting next to each other and make together mini competitions. Trying to beat your friends is the essence of this games for me. But my friends never played that kind of games too, so I started to play RPG and MMORPG games, which I play till today. These kinds of games, with a lot of different things to do at the end, is something that I love. I prefer that you can decide where your character should go, or which skill learn, like Warcraft, Diablo, ESO, WoW, etc.

Fighting games were the "thing" of my childhood, they are an important part of what made me be "me"nowadays. Nowadays i think the Super Smash Series and probably Street Fighter are the only ones that have prevailed, survival of the fittest i guess.
If we weer to talk about my favorite fighting game well that would be Tekken 4, it had a nice blend of story and actual fighting, great move sets, nice response times, memorable characters and treats.

1. I enjoy fighting games even though I don't play them much nowadays.

2. It's hard to decide. Soulcalibur VI seems to be a great fighting game, but my favorite would probably be Tekken 3. Mostly because of the sentiment I have toward this game. I can still remember playing with my younger brother and all the emotions that came with it. Raging when my brother defeated me by simply button mashing, or being exited when we finally reached the final boss of this game. Good memories :)

Fighting games are awesome !!! When I was younger I was playing always in one fighting game. It was Tekken. In my opinion Tekken is best fighting game ever. Everyone has some games which he or she will remember forever. I grew up on this game while playing with my brother and father on xbox360. I am so delighted with games of this type here but I forgot about one thing that a lot of children shouldn’t play in these games because it very arouses aggression but in this way really we can look too on the tv shows etc.

Fighting game is a good choice when someone has a PlayStation or X-box and invites a few friends to play it. Little competition always makes party better. But only if you all have more and less same level skills. If even one of you are much better than another people in your small company of friends - the party is over. That's why my friends and I used to play Tekken. You don't need any skills to play it. You can just push buttons randomly and enjoy the game. And you don't need to improve your skills. Brilliant.

"What do you think about fighting games?" - when I was young I just love Tekken and Dragon Ball mugens, but... right now I can't convince myself to that type of games. Maybe I will try in future Pokken Tournament, which seems like pretty interesting & orginal position.

"Which game is your favorite?" - Hmm... I didn't play any fightning game since... 04'? But if I had to choose, all-time favorite would be Pokken Tournament or maybe Soul Calibur 4.

Fighting games for casual people might be just pointless buttons smashing but for true gamers it’s combination of skill percision and reflex. Battles on tournaments are amazing . Combos they achieve are unreal.
I love mortal combat games and, injustice

My favorite fighting game is Mortal Combat. I believe it’s the most iconic and recognizable franchise in this genre. Even though I think gameplay is kind of boring if you play alone, I still really enjoy playing against my friends. Problem with these games that you can’t really put much into it. I know that nowadays they have some kind of a story or some plot, but in this type of games it’s rather a pleasant bonus than an important part. You don’t need to know a backstory of a guy or a girl you punch in a face. It’s not essential. So most of the fighting games just try to invent some new gameplay, that you can add to them. And that’s what I like in Mortal Combat. They always try something new. Sometimes it works and sometimes it fails miserably. I, personally, really liked X-Ray Mode, which they introduced in Mortal Combat 9, that would be activated, when you break your opponent’s bones or destroy his internal organs. This game was always known for its exceptional and gruesome brutality. Its notorious fatalities transcend themselves with each new game. And with this mode they’ve just entered a whole new level. And even though I can’t say that I languish in anticipation of a new game, I still would enjoy trying it at leisure.

I think that fighting games can be fun - I seldom play them, as they are not really my kind of game, but when I am in the mood for them, I certainly end up enjoying them. My favorite fighting games are the games from the Smash Bros series, which are about knocking your opponent off of the stage - I don't really play them anymore, as I don't own any consoles, but I remember them quite well.
Actually, I have never played a lot of fighting games and I don’t know a lot of them. But I remember one time when I was on holidays with my family, we had a play station console with us and my friend took a Mortal Combat fighting game with him. Every evening me, my sister and my friend we were playing this game a lot and at first, I was just clicking every button on a pad randomly to make some cool looking combos. But after two weeks of vacation I knew almost every combination that my character could perform, and I had loads of fun playing it. So I would say my favorite fighting game is Mortal Combat.

I support fighting games, of course, for a certain age, but I remember that it was a great time killing, especially when I was sitting with a friend and we had nothing to do.
my favorite game is tekken and I love it for now, great characters, and the plot of the game :)
Endless Subzero freezing combo is how friends are made and lost =) I love all computer games, and even though i rarely play fightings, i think that it is a good way to spend time with friends, especially because it encourages to play together "physically" on the same device. It's pretty good way to spend time on some parties, making own mini tournaments and beating each other not in real life, but in imaginary multiverse.

I like fighting games on consoles, but only those ones, where I can play with someone locally, it brings much more fun to the game for me. Playing fighting games by myself is just not for me, I guess. I always do want to play something like Mortal Combat (the classic one, hehe) or Injustice, which I especially love because of the characters, which are well known superheroes. Also I love to play very old games on very old consoles :) Also I would loveeee to play on those old arcade cabinet, but now it’s really hard to find something that even remotely look like those machines.

1. I think that it is relaxing kind of games which needs more your reflection rather than your thinking. Sometimes is is nice to sit on a couch with friends with beers and pads and spend time fighting and laughing in front of TV screen. I don't really understand why people usually connected games with aggression in real life. I think that most gamers are conscious that games are only games and they treat it only as a kind of entertainment.

2. For now I like pretty simple game "Stick fights". You can buy it on the steam platform for really low price (17 PLN) but it is worth it to try! But I have to warn you that it is funny only with friends. Single game is pointless.
Fighting games are all about competition between players and I'm more like Player Versus Environment type of player so I'm not the fan, but from time to time I play with my friends in Mortal Kombat X.
I tried maybe 3 fighting games and I spent most of the time playing Mortal Kombat X.
I really like fighting games, but unfortunately I haven't played in a very long time. After reading your article, I will consider buying one of these games.

My favorite game in my childhood was TEKKEN. Last time I played fighting games a few years ago on PlayStation 2.

1. What do you think about fighting games?
- They are great if you want to chill out after a hard day or if you want to feel like Son Goku or any other character from "fighting" anime. Also, there is no better feeling like beating your friend in a fight gaming during a lan party.

2. Which game is your favourite?
- It is probably League of Legends I've spent countless days with it and I am still hungry for more. I think the beauty of this game is the fact that each game is different, each time you face different opponents playing different champions.
1. I have played a lot of Tekken 3 on Playstation 1 when I was young. But after that there weren’t any fighting games, I was interested in. Only recently I’ve started to play Mortal Kombat and UFC in the work. I really like them, but they only make sense when playing with friends. Beating computer is just not even half as fun as a fight with a real person
2. I would say that new Mortal Kombat. It is quiet nicely balanced with many different characters. When I tried playing the new Tekken, feeling of fighting with every character was quite the same

I used to love them back in my childhood. Those games was easly accessible in every game center. I remember when I was on holidays with my family and friends we had this game machine with tekken and we wasted a lot of coins there :D
I think Tekken is the most recognizable fighting game and it is still they're still developing it to achieve more reality in fighting. Yeah, I think Tekken is my favourite ( or at least was I am not playing those types of games anymore)
Unfortunately I have one small problem on this topic. In general, in its essence, games are a time killer, and it is better to avoid them. But nevertheless, I am also a person and I love all sorts of pleasures, so I also play sometimes. But unfortunately I do not like games of this genre. I am most attracted to logic games. Maybe it's because, as it seems to me, these games are good for development, and will bring some benefit to me.
1. What do you think about fighting games?
I agree with other students that fighting games is good in company. I add from myself, that if your skill is low, probably, you will not enjoy :)

3. Which game is your favorite?
If you asking about fighting genre of game, I was playing a little in Tekken 3 only. My favorite game in the past - World Of Tanks.
1. What do you think about fighting games?
I think that they are great games to play with Your friends while sitting on couch and play on a big screen - these kinds of games evoke emotions, engagement and usually a lof of laugh.

2. Which game is your favorite?
It's been a while since I have been playing a game like this, but I used to like Tekken and a game based in Dragon Ball universe.

I like fighting games because it's good way to spend time with your friends. For example, you can make your own tournament with special awards!
I think that skills are very important in fighting games. You have to combine some buttons to make something special (double kick or something like that). Additionally, these games often have a lot of characters with their own animations.
My best fighting game? I have spent a lot of time on Tekken series and every part was okay. When you ask about every type of video games then I will choose Counter Strike 1.6. Seriously, it's old but still the best :)

1. What do you think about fighting games?
I find fighting games nothing more than simple arcade game suited in designed graphics. I like these games, but I also tend to get bored pretty soon. I don't think they develop as fast as RPG games, so there is always some something to improve. As long as they're allowed to be played after 16 or 18 year old, I don't mind playing them.

2. Which game is your favorite?
I've played the most in Tekken on PSP long time ago and I really enjoyed it, but I have the biggest sentiment to the Little Fighters 2. It takes me back to the times when I played this game with friends as a local co-op on the old PCs, which would not run any newer game anyway.
I think that fighting games is good way to spend time in company of friends at home but I don't play in such kind of games when I'm alone. As resent activity in such movement I remember that on last birthday of my friend we have made tournament and play with each other until left one who has played better than other.

At this time I play sometimes in WOT and that's enough for me because I don't like to spend a lot of time in games.

On the market we’ve got a lot of kind of games, which we can play with our friends. One of them are fighting games which give the most fun by playing them on consoles. In fighting games we’ve got an element of competition that’s why they work well among friends. What’s more, on the world exist championships where players from all countries can check their skills. It’s really difficult game genre, because it’s very hard to design something extraordinary. Of all fighting games I have ever played, there were the one which stood out for me was Mortal Combat. The graphics is one of this game great aspect and ‘fatality’ is really genius.

1. What do you think about fighting games?

2. Which game is your favorite?
Tekken and Mortal Kombat, without a doubt :D. When I was younger, my uncle had Mortal Kombat on his old PC(with MS-DOS in it) and when I was visiting him, we were fighting each other all the time :D. Great memories!
1. Fighting games sadly aren't my favourite genre. I tried them few times but I never got hooked by any of them. I prefer RPG or FPS games. I'm not saying that fighting games are bad, they are just not in my taste.
2. Can't name a single one from fighting genre. However, when it comes to video games in general, I always enjoyed playing Gothic trilogy. Gothic 2 is probably my favourite game of all times :)

What do you think about fighting games?
I remember in childhood we was fans of Sega. Gathered with friends from each other at home, exchanged cartridges for this console, could endlessly discuss with a passion the favorite characters of the games Mortal Kombat.
I think today, many adults with pleasure in the company of friends can have a good time playing them.
Which game is your favorite?
I haven't played in them for a long time. But in childhood, as I said, our favorite game was Mortal Kombat. It has been greatly improved since that time. I hope for the better. Ever have to play it.
I would like to speak with you in the future privately. :)
I understand how you feel about them.
And that is why it is the best way to play online.
You have an opportunity to meet people that think the same way and love to play in company.
Nostalgia...

For me, one of the best way to play fighting games is to learn how your favourite character is working. Hours in the tutorial.
Yeah, of course. I have played it even before the release date.

It is great that you have this feeling towards Mortal Kombat 3. Glad to hear that.
Well it depends from the game.

Showing young child Mortal Kombat is not adviced, of course.
But there is plenty of games (old or new one) that is child friendly to show to your child.
It is great to have games to release your aggression and games to feel the atmospheric story.

One can provide presentation of your skills. While other can show you great story which is different from movies.
Yeah, I know them. :)
But thanks.

There is a different feeling of having great skills in fighting games.
I wish that that nostalgia feeling will be present in your future.

This genre has never been really close to my heart, needless to say while alone at home it wouldn't be my go-to entertainment. Although, having spent some quality time with friends while playing Tekken, Soulcalibur or Mortal Kombat, I believe its a nice way to train some trash talking towards your friends without necessarily insulting them.

Out of all the fighting games I've played I'd most likely choose soulcalibur due to its' numerous pop-culture references.
I know it. :)
There is a big strategy to beat an opponent that uses a particular style to beat you.
Understanding how to beat him has feeling of understanding to how to solve hard quiz on the test.
I understand how you feel about them.
I would like to speak about them when we will see each other in the university.
We will play them in the future together.
I’ll be frank, fighting games are not my strongest suit. I blame never being exposed to gamepad controls, and not having an arcade anywhere nearby that would shape my skill in those games. As it stands, when I get to play one nowadays, my usual strategy is “mash all the buttons in random order and hope it activates some funky move that the opponent doesn’t expect”. It’s obviously nothing that can’t be learned with time, but I have other games that bring me more enjoyment – I never really saw the allure of the fighting games and found them to be very two dimensional (pun intended), compared to other genres out there. My favourite games nowadays are among FPS (when I want some action), creative sandboxes (when I feel like building something), and MMO RPGs (when I feel like socializing). Those three types already provide more than enough entertainment, so unless I someday find myself with a lot of time and money to spend on games, I don’t see myself ever becoming better at the fighting genre.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit.
