Week 7 [21.11-27.11] The most beautiful and dangerous places on Earth

Nowadays the world seems to be smaller than a hundred years ago. People can travel all over the world and see all most beautiful and stunning places which have been created by nature. Some people not only like to visit astonishing, breath-taking, landscapes but also the most dangerous ones. Some people not only travel to such places but actually live there. But as much as the nature can become dangerous and unpredictable people will always want to explore it  and enjoy its beauty.

One of such places is in Ethiopia, near the regions of Eritrea. There is a Danakil Desert known as “The Cruelest Place on Earth” because of barren, very salty soil and unbelievable temperatures up to 50 degrees. You might ask why people visit this place simply because of the multicolored landscapes which are truly astonishing.

Take a look at the video which definitely speaks for itself:

The second place is Sinabung Volcano in Indonesia, which is located on the Sumatra island. It is known for being an active volcano, active to the extent that it erupts nearly every year: nearby inhabitants lose their shelters and homes. The last eruptions took place in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015 as well as current year, 2016. The eruption causes unleashing enormous amounts of ash, volcanic gas, stones and the worst – lava covering the whole villages. Yet, there are still people who decide to live there as well as to visit this place.

Have you ever heard of any dangerous but also astonishing places created by nature?
Have you ever been to such places?
Why do you think people keep on visiting such places even though they are very dangerous and unpredictable?

I taking that one of the most dangerous place which we can visit is simply a jungle. It's very unpredictable considering the amount of dangerous animals which we can meet there.
I have never been to such a place and to be honest, I wouldn't like to visit any kind of it. I'm a lazy type of person who prefers to spend free time lying on a beach and sunbathing ;)
People keep visiting this kind of places for the same reason as they do some extreme sports - they simply like adrenaline and unusual experiences.

I fully get your point of view. I agree that some of the people visiting such places have a need to feel adrenaline, but I also think that often the most beautiful places are also the dangerous ones because of their natural habitat which can be tricky and unexpected.
Interesting presentation, I didn't know about any of those places, so I'm very happy to learn something new. Indeed, those places look quite nice, but personally I'd probably not bother visiting them myself, looking at photos or watching videos is enough for me, considering potential risks :). Thanks!

Thumbs up for people living in safety of civilisation! We might be boring but we are alive! :)

I think some people just like the adrenaline rush. I personally do not like to try my luck, so Polish mountains is most dangerous place i have visited. Thanks for volcanoes, jungles, desserts and dangerous animals, I will keep my head low.
I wish I could visit them all. Amazing views!
Michał Pycek said…
Yes, it seems it is more safe to watch the pictures and videos of such places, instead of visiting them and risking life or health :-)
Michał Pycek said…
Well, even Polish mountains can be dangerous when there is a snow storm in the winter, so be careful out there.
Personally I really enjoy Polish mountains as well, but I prefer skiing or biking, so I keep on the common path and do not get lost.

I have heard about two very unique and dangerous places:
1) https://files.brightside.me/files/news/part_14/140405/1333205-1000-1460716167-ertaale.jpg
Erta Ale volcano, in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, is one of the most dangerous volcanoes on the planet. Small earthquakes are constantly shaking the region, forming numerous deep chasms. This happens because Erta Ale contains two lava lakes in its summit crater. The amount of lava in them is constantly changing, causing the Earth’s surface to shake up and down
2) https://files.brightside.me/files/news/part_14/140405/1333155-1000-1460716167-bikini.jpg
Lost somewhere in the ocean, this island looks like a paradise, doesn’t it? But Bikini Atoll was actually home to numerous nuclear testing programs that turned the picturesque island of Bikini into a radioactive wasteland. The inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes, and even today this remains hazardous for living organisms: the abnormally high level of radiation recorded here can cause cancer.

I have never been there but I would love to go there (especially Erta Ale volcano). To be honest I do not often take risk but when I see such picture I would take it!

I like taking photos that's why I would like to visit such a unique places. I do it for my own pleasure and don't publish, but every photographer (even amateur) would like to have such positions in the portfolio.

I haven't heard about beautiful and dangerous places (or it doesn't come to my mind) and despite the fact that I like taking a risk for just a risk, I would prefer to "fly". I mean parachuting, paragliding and so on.
Another astonishing place, maybe not as dangerous as an active volcano, but somewhat dangerous might be the “Door to hell” in Turkmenistan. It’s a natural gas crater that burns continuously from 1971, when it was set on fire to prevent the spread of methane. It looks really amazing, and I’d love to visit this place someday. Hopefully it will still be burning :)
Here you can read more about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door_to_Hell

I agree that jungles are generally most unpleasant if we consider natural conditions. In other places you can overcome most difficulties with good gear and preparation. But I think most scary places on earth that I would never like to visit are made so by humans and not by nature.

I've been to few active volcanos in Italy and Canarian Islands but those places are still rather safe, with extreamly low probability of something bad happening during your short visit. I'm glad Poland is relativly safe from many scary, natural disasters.
One of the most beautiful and dangerous places in the world is surely Australia as a whole, but especially the Outback. I would love to visit it some day, but I definitely wouldn't like to live my life there. I'm glad that in Poland I at least can leave the house without checking if something venomous isn't hiding in my shoes or whether a dangerous snake will enter my home through an open window.

Is a lot of places on the earth beautiful and dangerous. I this year I was of Croatia with my friends and we wanted drive one of the highest mountains in Croatia which can be Reached by car. Beautiful views and dangerous because two cars could bypass one of them had to retreat to the place where it was widely beacuse road was very narrow and it was not at all protective band but it was worth to go :)
Yeah, okay. Why in the world would I ever want to visit such places? There are still plenty of places I want to visit here in Poland and I only hope that I will find enough time to do so. Poland is a beautiful country and we should be proud of it.
I think that people who visit dangerous places like the ones described in the article have a need to experience some adrenaline to make them feel complete.

I watched Top Gear where James May approached to one of the active volcanoes in Iceland. It seems to me that if he could drive a car so close is not the most dangerous place on earth, but it made a big impression on me. I was once on a volcano in Sicily, but I do not remember his name (it was not Etna). What I remember was the horrible and suffocating smell of sulfur. Smoke was so much at the top of volcano, the view was opaque, additionally choking stench, I dreamed to as soon as possible get out of the crater. I think people are looking for experiences that everyday life does not provide them. They want to get a shot of adrenaline. But I do not see myself in those places.
It’s kinda fascinating i Just Heard about one quite dangerous place and its mainly made my people its called:”a tunel to hell” it’s a place where was people drilling for a gas and to test if tere was a gas they put a fire on it. As i know it’s impossible to turn the fire off, it will hapten when the gas will go out. In my opinion people who wants to visit that place want to see something unbelivable Or they Just want to be close to Heath Or both.

That desert surely looks beautiful. It's amazing such places exist on earth.

As for travelling somewhere just for the sake of challenge, that's understandable, people love adrenaline. That's why Mount Everest trips are still popular.

Travelling to unknown places has always attracted people. I guess that we all have an explores nature inside us.

I saw this really interesting movie called Tracks. It is based on a book by Robyn Davidson who has travelled on her feet through Australia – from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean only with a few camels and a dog. The trip was really long and dangerous, not because of other people but because of the weather changes and the big difference between night and day temperature. To her it was a trip to find herself.

Yet another example like this would be the movie (also based on a real story) with Reese Witherspoon where she has walked through a long hiking track that runs all the way from Mexico to Washington. This was also the trip to find herself, change the way of the life she had before.

I guess that travelling to extreme places makes us more aware of who we really are and it helps us to know ourselves better.

One of the dangerous places that I would like to visit would be the Spitzbergen. Very isolated, cold and almost untouched by people.
Really cool places. They look like as if they were on a different planet. Maybe that's why people like to visit them since they differ so much from other places. I've been to Pamukkale in Turkey which is really nice place (not dangerous though) but also looks kind of surreal. Just look at the google graphics search: https://www.google.pl/search?q=pamukkale+turcja&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=990&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwi3p-HUocnQAhVDWCwKHYKEDYYQ_AUIBigB

I have never heard about places you mentioned, thank you for that. They look really astonishing.
Why do people visit such places? I think it is for the thrill of emotion, to be in such dangerous place. It is also good story to brag about in a group of friends ;)
Unfortunately I don't know any not so well common like Mount Everest dangerous places created only by nature.

Australia would be a beautiful country to live, but those spiders and snakes and other dangerous stuff really ruins it for me. Even car producers are implementing spider-protection technologies in their cars produced for Australian market.
Here's an example from Ford: http://www.autoblog.com/2015/08/05/ford-focus-rs-spider-screen/

Exactly, they do that for the adrenaline rush. Same case with these guys :

You can't forget about photographers that also visit such places so we can now enjoy the view without leaving the room ;)

Thank you for sharing such beautiful places.
After reading this post, I understood that I'm always reading and watching videos about the most beautiful places, the most attractive places and so on. So, I think, I should take some time and look through the linkes you shared.
I would like to see volcano or acid desert, but I think I would do this only when I could afford the helicopter excursion!

I heard about Death Valley where people are travelling to see "walking" stones. It"s one of the hottest places around the world and the deepest in North America. Annually people participate in Ultramarathon Badwater, where they have to run 217 km via the valley in July, when there are the most extreme conditions. I think it's an example when people want to feel adrenaline and go to fight with their weaknesses and defeat the nature.

What a beautiful places you've shown! I've never traveled to any place like those but I sure I'll do that in nearby future. I'm not sure why do people like visit such places but I suppose we love to see something little strange, something that haven't been seen by many people.

Forces which drive people to live in such places can be different. Some of the people are living there because of despair, other because they love when their blood freezes. In fact, there is another group of people which get their inspiration from the dangerous power of nature. There are lots of photos of such 'unsafe' places on the internet. But who are people behind the scenes? I'm inspired by artists who have the courage to create despite danger around (to name just a few: Michael Overbeck, Gary Knight, and Kawika Singson).

I'm definitely not a traveller, but i would love to see those places you mentioned. It's amazing how many different landscapes can be created by the nature. I think that people want to experience the power of the nature personally, it cannot be experienced by watching some cheap documentary on TV. I beleive that only by visiting those dangerous places you can develop a respect for nature and its powers.

I think there's beauty in dangerous landscapes like sulfur pits, volcanic slopes and ice deserts. It's just that I'm not keen on visiting them. Why do others want to? Well apart from the obvious beauty, maybe it's the adrenaline rush that being near such a dangerous place gives them?

When i was on Philippines and supposed to climb on the volcano Mayon which is 2463m high and still active, you can go there only with qualified guide who has special permission to go there with tourist. Finally I didn't achieve my goal which was to reach the summit because of 4 level eruption alert ( there is 5 levels.) Any of the guides wouldn't agree in this situation to go to the top. I lost my chance or I can come back one day and do what I have planed.. who knows :)

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
