Week 9 [18.05 - 24.05] How artificial intelligence helps with a virus

Each of us is already tired of the virus that has been in existence for several months. At the moment we are conducting a difficult fight with him, but whether?
technology can help us with this. I think so! Before the pandemic, Jim Collins was involved in artificial intelligence and combined it
with synthetic biology. Callins explains how he wants to start the fight with Covid-19 using artificial intelligence

1. Yes, of course, no one synthesizes new chemical compounds without the use of artificial intelligence, so drugs are created even more with its participation. It’s much easier to find a molecule or its derivative using various algorithms, without AI it would take too many years for us, with our current knowledge. I hope that artificial intelligence will continue to develop towards biotechnology and we will act as quickly as viruses.

2. Without current technology, we wouldn't have any chance with covid. Although on the other hand covid is developing through technology - airplanes, large agglomerations ...

1. Yes definitely. It helps find dependencies in countless datasets that researchers would not be able to find at the same time. I strongly believe that in the future we will be able to develop a cancer cure using artificial intelligence.
2. As for the current plague, maybe it wouldn't have been if it wasn't for the technology. However, since the virus has already spread around the world, we may be able to defeat it a little faster. Thus, ordinary life, such as work, studies and social gatherings also exist thanks to the use of technology.

1. I think artificial intelligence and overall technology and computing power are giving us a huge help with developing a medicine. Human mind can think and understand a lot of things but we lack the power of processing information as fast as computers do. It is giving us an opportunity to find a solution way faster.

2. Well I think that because of technology coronavirus spread so quickly. We can travel to any part of the world in least than a day, and if this virus is showing itself after a week or so we can infect insane amount of people before we even realize that we have it. I think without technology many people would die but they would die in one place, or even continent but not in every part of the world.

To my knowledge, artificial intelligence is not currently used as an expert system to help doctors make decisions. This is because patients still think that their health problems are unique and unique and no algorithm, even the most complicated one, is able to diagnose them and deal with them like a real doctor. When a patient learns that the examination or procedure is to be performed by a machine, they usually resign or do not want to pay as much as for the service performed by a human being. Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, is useful in statistical modelling of processes, including how the virus will spread.

2.What would the plague look like without technology?

Without technology, there would be more cases. People without the Internet and without the possibility to order products online would have to meet more often. Companies let their employees work from home. Now even with a doctor you can have a teleconsultation. It seems to me that companies will also realize the benefits of working remotely are, for example, lower rents for offices. Lack of such technology would cause people to meet more often and get infected with each other.

I believe statistics and data analysis are more accurate terms for it but certainly medicine benefits from artificial intelligence. When scientists already have a digital version of a virus, a lot can be done with it, but people simply can't deal with it by hand. That's when computers and all of the advanced algorithms come and help with finding possible solutions.

2. What would the plague look like without technology?
First of all, we would not have the possibility to get to know about the virus so quickly. Most of the information was delivered on the internet. The photos from China, the reports of the doctors, the researches of the scientists - all of these were available for the whole world. When it comes to looking for a perfect cure, definitely computers helps us a lot. Now it is the question of what exactly did you mean under the term "technology" - actually, all the stuff that scientists use is some kind of technology, for example, microscopes. Without it, we would have only theoretical knowledge and we would finish with trials of various medicines and staying at home until the situation becomes stable.

It definitely is, one thing that comes to my mind is how illnesses can be detected
via ML just by training models of blood pictures.

I think without proper communication channels and informing people about the risks and the current situation, the plague would be much more devastating for humans.
Also technology helps to develop the vaccine in a more rapid way, so I think we're living in good times, when it comes to handling plague threat.

It is helpful in some way without a doubt. Scientist might have their ideas and scenarios of fighting a virus but they might not be able to check all of them personally. In such situations AI seems to be quite helpful because it might be able to check at least some of those scenarios by comparing data gathered by the scientists.

We have all read about plagues which have happened througout the years and tragedies they caused. Lack of technology caused deaths of many innocent people and a rapid spread of diseases. Something so trivial for us like the phone could have stopped the spread to some degree. Flow of information then was so slow that usually it was to late to inform people that there might be a danger on the way.

Yes, computers have a faster recognition speed than traditional pharmaceutical processes. I think that in an ideal situation, if we can hand over the preliminary drug development process to a computer and save some repetitive work, it should be able to shorten the time for new drugs to be made, and even reduce the cost of research and development.

Probably like the Black Death which was without technology as well.

Of course, artificial intelligence can help defeat the virus. Much of the medicine is based on analysis and forecasting, which is much easier and faster to do using computers.

I think a virus without technology would be much more widespread. Transmission of information, analysis and prognosis of the situation helps a lot in fighting and limiting the infection of more people.

Artificial intelligence can be helpful in everything including medicine like helps in detecting diseases, simulating epidemic development etc. at least until he has no self-awareness then it will destroy us.

Without technology the plague would probably not reach us, it would develop in and around China and if it did, it would took many years.

Artificial intelligence is for sure helpfull but it can be as good as people can make it and understand the output of the algorythm. There is no doubt that it is helpfull but the question should be how helpfull.

Started from the bottom without technology (e.g. planes) the spred wouldnt be so fast and maybe it wouldnt be a pandemic.

Yes, we can see it already is. Certainly in understanding what we can't know, and using that information for drug discovery and for the human medical experience. Experts believe the skills that are being developed by AI are very valuable. They believe that within two to three years, these artificial intelligence methods should be able to diagnose diseases and scan images to help us avoid a heart attack.

2. What would the plague look like without technology?

That is all about the society and the attitude towards life. Obviously, if nowadays we would lose the tech the outcome could be dramatic. I am almost sure that plenty of people would commit suicides because of depression/boredom. It is more important to preserve life without going on about that. A lot of people claim that social media is like that, but the relationship between suicide and social media is very different.
It is the worst that we are running away from this technology but we need it. The plague epidemic was devoid of technology and therefore only people died
I wonder if someday artificial intelligence will replace the doctor in 100 percent as you think? Returning to the pandemic, new technology gives us the opportunity to survive, without it the situation has deteriorated significantly
I agree with you. Modern medicine is currently supported by computers. Artificial intelligence can only dull this process and it seems to me that thanks to it we are able to detect diseases faster. What about your answers about pandemics. Hmm interesting statement I also think that globalization contributed to the faster spread of the disease
Why do you think that artificial intelligence does not give a choice to doctors? I think that it helps them and they still have to decide whether to be guided by their premonitions or trust the computer. Artificial intelligence is to be like an extra arm, it is to help and not harm. Nowadays, doctors are already using and supporting artificial intelligence.
It is possible that I did not specify, but I mean technology in general, that is what you wrote microscopes computers, etc. Recently, there has been a voice about plug-in chips for coronovirus detection, what do you think?

1. Considering what Jim Collins is saying in the video, it is.

2. There were plagues in the past, when the technology wasn't so advanced, and I believe that it would look really similar. But thanks to technology, we are able to separate ourselfes and still be able to work or attend classes. Without technology there would be a lot more infected at the moment, and the economy would be in much worse shape than it is now.

As Collins points out, AI is great at quickly searching large problem spaces. In the example from the video, time-consuming manual molecule tests are being replaced with computers which create and explore all possible problem combinations. In short, Machine Learning speeds up to most tedious and repetitive processes required when developing a medicine.

2. What would the plague look like without technology?
We don’t have to use our imagination. We can read a history book instead. Without technology more people would die from Covid-19. That’s for sure. It’s hard to tell how much longer the lockdown will last, but it would last much longer if we didn’t have AI. The speed of development of a vaccine relies heavily on AI.
Hello, here are my answers to your questions.

1. I believe that AI ( artificial intelligence ) is very helpful tool, especially in medicine. The AI is great at finding patterns in problems, and browsing through many of documented cases of current and past diseases, to help scientists find solution.

2. Throughout the ages we've seen many plagues and diseases kill millions of people. That's how it would look like. While it is true, that technology allows diseases to travel further, as people can travel long distances now, without the technology we would have nothing to protect ourselves. Remember, technology is not neccessary just AI, computers and smartfones. All of the human inventions are part of the umbrella term that is "technology". So, to answer the question. The plague wouldn't kill as many people as it does now. But without technology, every single disease would be as deadly as the plague.

1. I think that every form of improving tests such as the ones described in the video are helpful in developing medicines, in this case it allows us to develop them faster by needing less time for testing drugs that most likely will be failures in finding the right cure.

2. I is really hard to predict how bad could it get without technology, but for sure the outcome would be much worse and right now we would probably have thousands of millions of positively diagnosed people and also millions of deaths.
1 / Artificial intelligence at the moment, at a very high level. And the fact that they began to introduce it into medicine will make a huge step in this structure. And promotion is largely the exception of experiments and the creation of artificial organs and help with reliance and the creation of new drugs.

2 / I think that the first reason for panic will be the early spread of the coronovirus and the lack of the ability to fight it. And the total panic will begin in a civilized society.

Absolutely yes. I remember that the first time I heard about developing the vaccine for Covid-19 was almost at the beginning of the pandemic and they said it could possibly ready to use in less than a year. The reaction was so quick and we are lucky that we live in times when medicine is so technologically developed.

2.What would the plague look like without technology?

There are so many aspects in which techology helps us fight the pandemic. For example, thanks to the media we can access many sources of information, thanks to the Internet we can stay in touch with our friends and families during lockdown, not to mention the obvious advantages of technology that is used in hospitals to help the patients in urgent need. I am sure that without those means it would be much more to control the pandemic and its effects.

Of course! Latest example of this can be about American scientists that created artificial intelligence which could invent vaccine against coronavirus. The possibilities were countless, so they released the application to everyone, so they could also run it on their computer and speed up the research progress.

2.What would the plague look like without technology?
It would look much worse for sure. Communication would be much slower or even nonexistent, so we wouldn't know any details about virus status in other countries and we wouldn't be able to prepare for it like we did.

I am reminded of a Corrupted Blood Incident - a virtual epidemic that broke out in World of Warcraft on September 13, 2005. Its occurrence was the result of a mistake by the game's designers, and also the deliberate use of its mechanics to further spread the scourge. a small group of players who initiated this epidemic led to the deaths of around 4 million player characters.
The Contaminated Blood Incident has become an ideal material for epidemiological research. Mainly due to the huge scale of the pandemic, as well as the wide demographic range of the players themselves.
I think that if it wasn't for technology and medicine, the epidemic would last longer and could end up with millions of victims like this one in this game.
