Week 11 [13.01-19.01.20] Isekai and waking up in another world

https://tensura.fandom.com/pl/wiki/Tensei_Shitara_Slime_Datta_Ken_Wiki?file=Wiki-background

When I was younger, I used to watch a lot of anime, but with time passing, I drifted further and further from this form of entertainment. But lately, I was introduced to something that really caught my attention, namely - isekai. For people unfamiliar with this term, it means "different world" and it is a subgenre of fantasy. Usually isekai is a story about character that was transferred or reincarnated (probably with help of a truck) in another, fantasy world, where said character is the "chosen hero" with mission to save the world from big evil forces like for example demon king. To be honest, it seems and sounds kind of dull. Especially if we delve into this genre, because really, how many times can we see almost the same story, just in a bit different setting? Well, in my case it turns out, that quite a lot, because currently I'm even meeting once a week with friends, to watch new episodes of few anime in this genre. And it's just one way to encounter it. Aside from anime there are many books, movies, light novels, manga and video games as well. Sometimes we even aren't aware, we're reading/watching one, because we simply don't know such thing as 'isekai' exists.

So what's so alluring, that even though most of anime seem to be a copy paste of very similar aspects, that there's still a great demand and popularity for it? In one of our blog entries we had a question, whether we'd like to live in universe of Warhammer and as far as I remember, many people answered that they'd be happy to try. Even though it's cruel and gruesome world, where we're likely to meet harsh ending very fast. My guess is, that in case of isekai, it's what really makes this subgenre shine. We follow merry adventures of person or people from our world, which not necessarily were happy with how their earlier life looked like, that are now living literally a fantasy life. Doesn't it simply sounds pretty nice if we look at this like that? I think that surprisingly many people often wander in their thoughts to different worlds, where they can lead completely different life. In addition isekai often shows us overpowered characters and go side by side with comedy genre. It makes those productions really light to watch and even despite flood of them, and tons of similarities, better ones still manage to be unique enough to bring new audience. And to top it off, it's a golden mine of memes, which people love nowadays. Some people went even further and made a religion of isekaism, where they believe in twisted life after death, life in another world.

Also, it's worth mentioning, that isekai is actually really old and contains even some big and popular productions outside anime, like "The Chronicles of Narnia" or "Alice's adventures in Wonderland". In the past such term wasn't too widespread and no one would categorize them in such way. Now though? They're perfect examples of genre for people who aren't too much into anime. For those that are, and aren't too familiar with isekai, I sincerely recommend "Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken". A story about person reincarnated into low level slime, with very useful ability, which will let him grow in power. It's also actually what bought me in the first place.

Questions:

  1. Were you aware of existence of such subgenre and its growing popularity? If so why do you think it's on rise?
  2. Would you like to be transferred or reincarnated in another world?
  3. What's your view on this subgenre?

1. Come on guys, why can’t you just stop posting your anime already? I don’t think that it’s in the rise. It may be in a rise in anime, because it’s probably a cyclical thing you know, as anime has already covered every possible story/fantasy world/characters. And by the way, being in a trend when it comes to art means you are not so creative after all. So if it is on a rise or it’s not - doesn’t really matter for me.

2. Yes, into the world where there is no other type of cinematography other than anime. So I would have no choice and would finally watch one.

3. It always was fun, for me especially when “Avatar 2009” came in. It may be not a very suiting example, but you have to admit, a level of details and design of their world was way ahead of its time back in 2009.

I wasn't aware that there is whole subgenre. I am far from being expert on that topic so i might be wrong but I'd say that main reason is that it is way easier for receiver to identify with main character. Imagine difference between a medieval story with with a boy from a village versus a medieval story with someone from our times jumping into that world. In first case we are watching from distance how the story unravels because typical problems of that boy aren't our problems and it is harder for us to imagine that, but on the other hand in the second story, the emphasis would be on how that person deals with common problems for that specific world he jumped into. We can easily see ourselves in this kind of situations which makes story closer to us.
I don't know if I'd like to travel to another world.
Probably it would depend on the world, if i could transfer back (and forth?) and what was the reason of traveling. If i am traveling because the world i live in collapsed or if i had opportunity to see different world after I die - sure, I'd defenitely do that.
I don't have an opinion. Whole subgenre is pretty wide and i suppose there are incredible stories as well as pure garbage stories.
It is the first time i hear about this subgenre. Honestly i am not a fan of anime or anything relatated to it so i'm not the one to say if it is popular and rising or not. I do not believe in reincarnation so is unlikely for me to be reincarnated in any other world or dimension and also i would'nt like that. I do nat have a view or opinion because i do not watch it.
1. Yes, I am well aware of this subgenre and, to be honest, I am growing pretty irritated by its ubiquity and sameness. Unfortunately, it has been plaguing bookstores for a long time now. Don’t know how to create an interesting world? Send there an “ordinary everyday guy” that typical readers can project themselves onto, who will criticize the typicality of that world like it is an excuse for an author to not make anything new. Don’t want to waste time teaching main character how to do things? Of course he becomes aware of everything and able to do everything while transferring to the new world. About the popularity of the subgenre, I see it only as a chewing gum for some people that want to read/watch something but don’t really care what it is.
2. It depends on circumstances of this reincarnation, the state of the world, et cetera et cetera.
3. I answered this question in the first paragraph, but to summarize it once more – at first it was a pleasant way to visualize fantasies of many teenagers but now there is just so much of it that I feel like this subgenre needs to transfer itself into some other world.

I have no idea. I personally agree with your statement about this genre seeming somewhat dull. Sure, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Golden Compass, Alice in the Wonderland -- they are all beautiful masterpieces of the fantasy art, but using the sole fact of transferring to different world as a base point seems a bit of low effort to me. Incorporating all that magic stuff in our everyday world (Like in Harry Potter for instance) seems like a lot more of a task for a writer.
Would you like to be transferred or reincarnated in another world?
No, I don't think so. This world is more or less acceptable, how do I know if another one would not be much worse. If it is a guarantee for the better outcome then, sure why not.
What's your view on this subgenre?
As I said -- using sole fact of transferring to another world as a base turning point is low effort cheap plot trick.

I was aware of the existence of such a subgenre. To be honest these last days he will pull me in. I don't know why but I really liked it. It allows me to break away from the fact of life.

Would you like to be transferred or reincarnated in another world?

Whether I would like to be reincarnated to another world depends on what world it would be. The very prospect of living in a world full of magic, mythical creatures and adventures is very tempting. On the other hand, if I came to a world full of suffering and sadness, I probably wouldn't decide to move there.

What's your view on this subgenre?

I think it's really interesting. It's really amazing to be able to know the sample of human imagination shown in this way.

Since I really don't like anime, I won't answer the first question, so as not to offend anyone.
And even more so, I won't answer the third question xD

But since I need to comment on 12 presentations every week, I'll try to answer the second question.
At the expense of transforming into other worlds, it's more likely no than yes, but with reincarnation it's more interesting. I believe in reincarnation, there are many different ideas and variations, but I believe in general and not in any particular one. Therefore, after reincarnation, I'd like to relax, and I see myself perfectly in the next life as electricity pylon or wind turbine. I would stand somewhere far far away from civilization and people, somewhere in the sea or field or forest. I would stand and buzzed, wouldn't touch anyone and no one would touch me, no worries and problems. Perfect. Except the crap of birds or squirrels, but these are trifles.
1. I am aware of stories based on this idea, however mostly from the movies, series or comic books. However, to me it's easy to answer your question: It helps people escape their reality. People look for comfort in fantasizing about afterlife being more enjoyable than whatever could be found on earth.

2. Well, I would like to have a great adventure in one of my favourite fantasy world and if I could be reincarnated in one than, yeah sure, why not. I would start my exploit by visiting the Ents and I would help them look for their wives because this story always makes me extremely sad!

3. I believe I answered this question above. It's a beautiful fantasy, however, with my views, it's better to enjoy what you already have rather then wait for something to happen, especially if it is your death.

1. No, I have’t. This is because I don’t like anime and this kind of animation.

2. I’ve never thought about it but no, I wouldn’t.

3. For me, it’s still anime, so it’s not interesting for me and probably I would never watch it.

1) Yes, I heard about it several years ago. It seems it was popular even five of six years ago. I think it is an easy or even lazy way for a writer to make a complicated plot, without spending too much time on the world-building.
2) No, not really. I think the world I live in is good enough already.
3)I guess it was entertaining, for the first three times or so... The last time I checked on it, it was fast growing in the number of creations that use this subplot, but all of them were so similar that you can read one and know almost everything about the others.
1. Were you aware of the existence of such subgenre and its growing popularity? If so why do you think it's on rise?
No, I didn't know there was such a subspecies. I'm not interested in anime.

2. Would you like to be transferred or reincarnated in another world?
Yes, in a world where only anime is. That would be a drama for me. Drama for the rest of your life.

3. What's your view on this subgenre?
I do not like this subspecies. Is strange. It looks scary.

I think these kinds of things are boring. Maybe it may sound fun and creative to watch but it is absurd to integrate into real life. not even likely. Maybe we are living creatures living in a virtual world connected to machines.
Would you like to be transferred or reincarnated in another world?
No I do not want to. As I said in the previous question, I'm sorry, this is just my opinion, but it sounds ridiculous to me.
What's your view on this subgenre?
I don't want to think anything. Thanks for your questions.

I know about that subgenre in anime and It's really interesting I would say. First of all If I woke up in another world suddenly I’d be ecstatic and I would need to master the skills of gathering food and hunting. Half of my stuff, including all electronic devices are useless. The knives in the kitchen seem to be my most important possession.

I actually had a dream where I woke up in different planet and it was Awesome. I think its not possible but as a dream It is really interesting experience if you have a chance to control yourself!

As i mentioned about this is quite interesting and attractive genre and for anime series and only. I wouldn't say that it is something new because I've seen this type of titles in hollywood movies as well

1. Before reading this blog post, I never knew such genre ever existed. Now, as I got to know it, I shall try to read more about it. But I think modern world is too cruel and difficult to bear, that is why individuals tend to escape to other worlds.
2. No, I personally prefer to stay were I am. I feel perfect in my present time.
3. My view is that this is a new form of fantasy. When I was small, fantasy as a genre was super popular. Now it is time for something new.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
