Week 10 [17.12-23.12.18] Bing

Why Bing Isn't a Failure

I cannot imagine my life as a web developer without the Internet. Where I can find answers to such questions as “how to implement something“ or “how to quit Vim”. But where do we go first when we need an advice? We usually open our favorite web browser and type the question in Google.
We all know the “Bing” and most of us do not use it because Google is just better.
Is Bing a big failure of Microsoft or a success? We will find the answers in this video:

  1. Do you use Bing?
  2. What search engine do you use on a daily basis and why?

Comments

Let s not forget that a search engine is no more than a tool. You probably have heard of Yandex. Or haven't. In case you did not -- it is a search engine from a russian company. I remember than in university back in Ukraine we once had a discussion about which search engine was better -- Yandex or Google. The answer was simple -- our professor solved it for us. If you need to find an information related to Russia, Ukraine, or any other country of former Soviet Union, (for example a question: "What is Water Sanctuming" (christian orthodox rite, has nothing to do with producing holy water, do not mistake them) could be a good example, since it is exclusive only for Russia and Ukraine, it does not even have a Wikipedia article in English), it would be much more effective to use Yandex since it searches russian-speaking websites first. In any other case -- use Google. Situation with Bing is the same -- there are things Bing would suffice better for than Google.

That's a really good point! We cannot forget that is only a search engine, also I have not heard about Yandex before. Maybe I will give it a shot one day :)

Yes, sometimes I do not find my favorite result on google, I use the Bing search engine.
Bing search engine has its own features, for example, Google searches based on your previous history of your searches and based on certain algorithms that show you the sooner you reach your desired result, but in Bing, the proximity of the content Searches on less visited pages may also appear on the first pages of search.
I usually use the Google search engine, because the loading of the Google site and the simplicity of the search page and style, and user-friendly without it, is appealing to me.

Mhh, it is interesting. Next time I will use Bing, to find solutions to my problems.
I do not use Bing, and I have never used it purposely (only sometimes accidentally). On a daily basis, I use Google, and I really get used to it. Whenever I search something, it is always quickly provided by this search engine, and in almost all cases on the first page of results, I can find what I was looking for. After what I read in the comments above, it is possible that next time when I won't be able to find something using Google, I'll try another search engine.
Lol look like some Microsoft advertisement =3 I do not use bing and i personaly think that everything that gets tainted by microsoft is bound to decrease in quality. I use Google because it is best of what is present on market even with it's huge flaws and ideological nonsense.

I see, I also use Google because it is the best on the market.

I don't use Bing. I got used to Google. For me it is the most comfortable search engine. In fact, despite some flaws, google services are the best I've used. I'm talking about maps, drive, e-mail, ̶G̶o̶o̶g̶l̶e̶+̶, etc.

I am not using Bing at all. I am using Google or Yandex just because these are the biggest company that offer reliable search results to my request. Depending on type of my request I am changing from Google to Yandex, but in most cases Google is my ultimate choice for all search requests. I am sure that Bing can also be useful in some kind of problems, but Yandex and Google will return almost everything that I am looking for.

I don't use Bing, probably because I don't use Microsoft Edge. ;) Also I have some Gmail accounts, which are far better integrated when using Google Chrome, so I stick to the default search engine made by Google. Bing is probably not that bad and does its job well, but Google has multiple services that are good and that we rely on heavily nowadays, so why bother with Bing? Also Google sometimes give you results even without clicking on any of the results for some queries such as weather or basic info about someone which is convenient.

I use Bing very very rarely and the main reason for that is the search results. Very often it just can't find the exact thing I'm trying to find and it is the main problem I have with Bing. When comparing Bing to Google, Google's precision is the main deal breaker. Also, Google's search engine is adaptable and learns from your previous queries.
On daily basis I obviously use Google but I've also tried DuckDuckGo which is privacy oriented search engine. From my experience, I can say that Google provides the best user experience in terms of finding the information you need.
No, I don’t use Bing. When I got my first computer in 2003 and access to the internet, there was no Bing yet. Microsoft search engine was released in 2009, and in that time, I was already familiar with google.
Currently, I have no intention to change my search engine. Google suits my needs, it is connected with my email and allows me to do many great things. I agree that total monopoly on the this market would be bad, but I can there are lots of different browsers and search engines for people who want to guard their privacy.
I don't use bing. But not because I find google search or anything better. I'm just too used to google. I'm not very happy about it considering how awful this company is becoming from some time. While Microsoft products are getting much better lately I think I might give it a try some day.
What do you mean by decrease in quality? Microsoft has one of the best tools for developers these days. One of the best examples can be popularity of VS code

I don't use bing. I use Google every day, I don't know what can be better because I don't try something else. Maybe with time i will change my think. And I hate Yandex , because time to time in some program you have chance to install it without your consent.

1. Do you use Bing?
No, I don't.

2. What search engine do you use on a daily basis and why?
I use Google search engine, becouse it's the most popular and set as default search engine in google chrome and safari web browser.

I feel the same, google services are just too good! Especially maps and e-mail, which I use on a daily bases.

Based on the comments I think that in fact, Yandex is really useful if you want to find the information related to Russia, Ukraine
Szymon Gibalski said…
I love this feature as well! Especially in the morning when you want to check the weather.
Szymon Gibalski said…
I also tired DuckDuckGo but Google is just too good!
Szymon Gibalski said…
I also started my journey with Google and after so many years I do not want to switch to a different search engine.
Szymon Gibalski said…
Yes, it is true, maybe in a few years, we will use Bing instead of Google just because the company is awful for their customers.
Szymon Gibalski said…
I did not know about this issue with programs that are being installed on your pc without your consent, it really sounds like a huge issue.
Szymon Gibalski said…
Thanks for commenting, I have the same set up on my mac :)

I do not use Bing. I gave it a chance once and I was really disappointed. I lost a lot of time that I could save using Google.
On daily basis I use Google of course. In my opinion there is no alternative for it. Everyone use Google.

I’ve used bing a couple of times. Mainly I binged google :P
In day to day basis I use google. They usually get me the best results. Also it’s the default search engine on all of my browsers.
Szymon Gibalski said…
I also tried to use Bing but it was not the same, I felt like something was missing.
Szymon Gibalski said…
I also think that google has the best results from all the search engines.

1. Do you use Bing?
Nope, I consider it as useless :/ Google is more accurate for me :)

2. What search engine do you use on a daily basis and why?
I use Google for years as probably 99% of internet users.
Why? The answer is very simple. It's built in chrome, it gives me satysfying results, I rarely go to 2nd page of search. This happens when I try to find specific theses/scientific work about spiders :D
Szymon Gibalski said…
Exactly, I find answers to my question on the first page in 99% per cent, that's why I use google :)

I don’t use Bing! Perhaps I will be persuaded to use this search engine, but it annoys me very much when I constantly set myself as the default search engine. It annoys me so much ( I know that I write it again ) ! Every day I use the GOOGLE search engine.
Google currently has the best algorithms in the world and will always help me to find what I'm looking for even when I'm not sure what I want to find. That’s great that when I am looking for e.g. the song - I can write in the google any description of the music video and Google will help me to find this song.

Do you use Bing?
No, I have never used Bing. It is something new for me.
Hmm, it depends on what I want to do. If I want to use Facebook or any other social media sites then I would choose Safari because it looks faster and lightly for my computer. On the other hand, when I want to develop some websites then my choice is very simple - Google Chrome because I like all of developer tools (built-in or external extensions).
It is my set of my favorite search engines.
Szymon Gibalski said…
Yes, Google is great when you want to find a song when you only know two words of the song :)

Of course, we cannot forget about developer tools, I cannot imagine my work without "redux-dev-tool" or "RailsPanel".
Bing may not be a financial failure, but it doesn’t mean it’s by any means a good search engine. On the few occasions I tried to use it, I’ve been thoroughly disappointed by the accuracy of its results. Admittedly the last time was a few years ago, so perhaps it deserves to get another chance from me, but at the same time I’m rather happy with Google and don’t have good reasons to change my habits. I use Google, as many other people out there, for the sake of its speed and accuracy. I know full well that my searches are being filtered (there are ways to go around that if I’m looking for impartial information) and logged (as much as they would be with Bing, and I decided that a good course of action would be to sell my soul to as little demons as possible).

Do you use Bing?

Yes I use it to download google chrome and use normal browser and search engine. But I was surprised that bing has such percent of market share, people definitely need to change defaults.

What search engine do you use on a daily basis and why?

I use google because it fast, reliable and always shows what I need. Also google has a lot of complimentary services like maps, places etc., that make results personalized and very useful. So I don't need to enter the site to see the answer.
Szymon Gibalski said…
I was surprised as well that Bing has such huge market share!

Bing? What is Bing? Chandler Bing from Friends TV show? I have never heard of Bing. If be more serious I have something to ask about Bing. Bing? What is Bing?..

I use google search engine. I think it's quite ok. Especially if you are an specialist in searching and could find there an old song that you have heard in British movie of 2000's where main character have brown hair, wastes his life and regrets too late that girl who likes him was his last chance to make his life better.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form.
