Week 8 [02.12 – 08.12.2019] Introduction to Warhammer 40K

Znalezione obrazy dla zapytania warhammer 40k logo no background

Warhammer 40K universe is vastly loved by artists, gamers and writers. Its universe created many great (and horrible) films, computer games like Dawn of War series, parodies, for example, the YouTube series titled ”What if the Emperor had a text-to-speech device” and books. What I want focus on in this presentation is an original tabletop board game or rather its lore. Recently, the popularity of the Warhammer 40K has increased again and is experiencing a kind of renaissance, but on the other hand high prices, strict rules and level of complexity repel many newcomers.

Lore:

better

The history of the Warhammer 40K universe is immense and rich, official books issued by Games Workshop Black Library have very detailed world’s origin. Many characters and races have a very long and interesting story. The leitmotif of the described universe is Mankind’s struggle to survive in the constant war that is the 41st Millennium. Mankind’s Imperium has lost most of its territories in the universe and is fighting for survival on almost every corner. The only thing that protects humans from extinction are the genetically modified Space Marines and endless human cannon fodder in the Imperial Guard, which are endlessly fighting with aliens and much more darker forces.

Armies of Warhammer 40K:

Space Marines

parimaris
They are superhuman warriors made from the DNA of Mankind's unfading Emperor. They are equipped with every kind of weaponry with the most recent majestic innovation, profoundly prepared to oppose the powers of Chaos. Split up into various particular Legions, they are isolated by their different camos and badges.

Astra Militarum

imperial-guard
Made out of the huge numbers of the Imperial Guards, they are viewed as the Hammer of the Emperor and devastate their adversaries with probably the most dominant artillery and tanks in the game. Much like their Space Marine siblings, the supreme Guards are isolated into various remarkable regiments and groups. Sadly in the universe they mostly operate as cannon fodder.

Chaos Space Marines

death-guard
The Chaos Space Marines are the children of the Dark Gods and the embodiment of their immense hatred for the False-Emperor and humanity. Once faithful to the Imperium, the Chaos Space Marines comprise additionally of an assortment of chapters – turned to Chaos. Offering their spirits to any of the Dark Gods in return for the ability to pulverize what they once adored.

Orks

orks
Their fixation on the front line and the adrenaline of a battle is a single component of the 'civilisation.' They collect in huge swarms of green-skinned executioners, equipped with self-made, stripped weapons and vehicles to fill the very heart of the battle as fast as they can.

Eldar

eldar
In short, space Elves. The Eldar are among the oldest races known to mankind and much like the Humanity, their domain is just a sorry excuse for its previous magnificence.

Tyranids

nids
Let's call them cosmic locusts, the biggest danger to each race inside the cosmic system. Their carnal nature knows no benevolence, no discussion or surrender. They move with a determined reason, fueled by the Hive Mind, to eat up every living thing and consume whole planets. Their ships are goliath living creatures that buoy through space carrying multitudes of huge monsters and tons of smaller, similarly savage units.

These are not all races / armies that can be found in this universe but describing them all would take much more time.

Questions:
  1. Have you ever heard about Warhammer 40k and its universe? What is your opinion about it?
  2. Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
  3. Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?

Comments

1. Yes, I've heard of it, it's quite impossible to exist in the Internet without ever bumping into it so eventually you start learning about it. I find this universe interesting but as I am more of a fantasy fan I find Warhammer Fantasy more appealing to me.
2. I would like to try but as it is firstly really expensive hobby and secondly it is more of a strategy game, I'd prefer playing some role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. I'm a bit curious about its lore, though.
3. Well, you haven't mentioned necrons ;)
In the beginning I wanted to include Necrons, but I realized that describing them would make this article super long. I myself like Dominum Tau and their battle suits also I was always a fan of the long distance approach and they specialize in it. If I remember correctly some Game Workshops like the one located in Złote Tarasy allow people to play a couple of battles with figurines provided by the shop.

No, I've never heard of Warhammer universe. I don't really have any opinion about it since i'd have to try it out by myself to give any feedback on it. Board games are not my thing but an online game might be worth trying.

Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
I played some board games as a child but nowadays they don't really appeal to me.

Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
The Tyranids race seems interesting to me due to their ability to consume planets :O
If i had the opportunity to live in such universe I wouldn't choose to do so as living in such constant war and in battlefield isn't much of a life.

1) Yes i've heard. I enjoy warhammer fantasy and WFRP.
2) Probably, but since i've got warhamme fantasy i'd rather play it instead.
3) I'd be Alpharius Omegon. Or wouldn't I?

Yes I have heard about it. There has been an article about it previously. I really enjoyed reading about it and I really want to read books instead of articles to see if it is so fascinating as in articles.

Yes, I really love board games so I guess it would be quite similar. I played in a board game called chaos in the old world and I heard that it is taking place in a warhammer world where we have 4 gods that want to destroy the world in their own perfect way. It is really fun and interesting to see this type of concept in a board game (btw. civilisation can win too).

I would be Space marines or chaos space marines. I don't really quite know why but they sound cool and powerful :D.

To be honest i've never heard about it but it looks amazing!

Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
I read about dungeons and dragons in one of the previous presentations and my answer didn't change. I would most certainly try it when it will be possible.

Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
I've always had a thing for orcs, when i was playing World of Warcraft i've always chosen that race so Orcs are the most interesting. I wouldn't like to live in that universe.
1. Have you ever heard about Warhammer 40k and its universe? What is your opinion about it?
Yes, I heard about the Warhammer 40k and its universe. Some time ago one of the people wrote an article about it. I am delighted with this topic. I'm glad I could read about it.

2. Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
Yes, I would like to play this board game. I really like board games. Christmas is coming, so soon we will be playing with the whole family. I've heard about a similar game. I don't remember her name, but she had a similar story. It sounded very interesting.

  3. Which of the races/armies I have described picked the most interest in you if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
I would be space marines. It would probably be an interesting experience, so I would like to.

No, I've never heard of this game before. I haven't been interested in board games for a long time, the last time I played something like that in my childhood.

Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
In general, I am a fan of good fantasy and the game looks pretty good, maybe I would play this game. But, as I already wrote, I haven't been interested in board games for a long time, and I haven't heard of other games either.

Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
If I had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, I would have chosen Space Elves. By description, they look like elves from the universe of The Lord of the Rings, which I am a big fan. The Eldar they are even called the same.
Of course I have heard about Warhammer 40K! I played Down of War RTS computer game placed in this universe. There were about 3 or 4 extensions to this game and me with my friends played together for a long long time and it was really a lot of fun. But we are talking about tabletop games not computer ones. So I have to say I never played Warhammer 40K tabletop but I have played regular Warhammer tabletop with action figures. It was a lot of fun as well but the problem was that figures were pretty expensive and we were kids and didn’t fully understand rules of this game so we played it for a while and then get bored. When I was playing Down of War I always chose Eldars of Dark Eldars I don’t really know why I just liked them most for no specific reason. If I had opportunity to live in some fantastic realm, despite that I really like Warhammer I would probably choose Warcraft.
1. Have you ever heard about Warhammer 40k and its universe? What is your opinion about it?
Yes, I've heard about this universe, although I've never delved into it. After all, I prefer the fantasy genre much more than science fiction, which is probably why I've never been particularly interested in Warhammer 40k. In fact, I know the whole outline of the history of this world very generally and at least once in my life I've heard about the races that you mentioned in the article, but nothing else.

2. Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
I only played a game of this type once, it was at some party organized by my cousin. He brought with him a board game on the theme of Lord of The Rings, with similar figurines and a huge game board. I don't remember its name exactly, but it was cool. I would definitely play this type of game again, but the opportunity never came. I like turn-based games, so this one would definitely be fine too. However, all these disgusting creatures, bleh.

3. Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
I regret that you didn't develop the Eldar, space Elves a little more. Every time an elf race appears anywhere, I am very happy and pleased because I like this type of species very much. They are usually presented in a similar way, and have an extremely developed and interesting story. As for life in the Warhammer 40k universe, well, it would certainly be interesting, but I suspect it wouldn't last too long. I would love to see the views and landscapes of the local planets and the conditions in which the races function. Everyday life, however, must be a real torture there.

Yes, I like W400K lore and games. I'm not a fan of table one, I think it's money and time demanding.
First time I've heard about this universe when my father has bought me a computer game "Warhammer 40000 - Dawn of War", and it is a masterpiece.
I've played it a lot. Different campaign for different races tells a strory from every side.
I'd like to play, but I don't know anyone who plays it.
I've heard that it is very difficult, you have to calculate a lot of variables and perform a lot of measures to count every action of your and enemy units.
My favorite races are Eldars and Space Marines
Eldars are very mysteric, while Space Marines are fanatics of the Emperor.

1. I've heared of it many times mainly in terms of video games though. However, I'venever managed to play it in any version, so it is hard for me to have a oponion on the topic.

2. If I had a group to play this then I'd like to give it a try. I've heared so much about this universe that I'd like to try it at last.

3. I think I'd go with elves and orks. I always likes this kind of races in many fantasy universes.
Heard? I've loved it. Few years ago, I was conduction some research and I wanted to involve my friends into it. But was no luck, too complicated universe.
Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
I would like to play this game. I was playing Warhammer strategy PC. Amazing game. One of my favorite race was the orcs. I've just loved their slogans and voices/phrases that were in the game. Thank you for reminding me about Warhammer 40k. I think i'm going to install this game on my PC.

1. I've heard about Warhammer 40,000 and even played it for about two years. A very addictive game that can take many winter evenings.
2. Yes, I really liked playing tabletop rpg games. However, I have recently moved more towards "simpler" board games like monopoly or Rebel.
3. My favorite race is Necroni, which you didn't mention. The Necrons were my first race and I remained faithful to them to this day. I've never played another one.
You summed it up really well, living in that universe would be horrifying. You could consider yourself lucky if you died from natural causes. If it comes to Eldars, they are very similar to any other elf races, they think of themselves as high nobility, better than anyone else. And this is what doomed them right now they are more like a pirates flying their agile space ships and attacking supply convoys to survive. We also have Dark Elders which are basically super edgy and crazy type of elves. Almost everything they wear has some blades on it, they are total masochists and they have some other pretty weird kinks.
Ah, Necrons I remember playing Dawn of War and resurrecting my whole armies with Hero unit. It would make your army cap go over the limit so I could just swarm my enemies with deadly robots :D
I recommend reading some of Orcs lore, its crazy. Did you know that Orcs are basically mushrooms? If you want to learn more I recommend this site: https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Orkoid_physiology
Believe me, Space Marines are ultra powerful. They receive implants known as the gene - seed, which transform their bodies and give them superhuman abilities - making them capable of spitting acidic venom, absorbing the memories of the dead by eating their flesh, darkening their skin to protect it from radiation, and operating for long periods without sleep by switching off parts of their brains at a time. Oh and also they have 2 hearts additional lung and kidney. And if it comes to Chaos Space Marines, they are similar to Space Marines but on steroids.
1. Yes , I heard about this universe. I played some video game years ago but don't know the title. I'm big fan of fantasy and sci-fi so Warhammer 40,000 is perfect for me. I really like this idea for universe because it's very unique. It's include typical fantasy ideas like races orcs/elves and bring it to sci-fi.

2. As I said in another topic about tabletop games I really want to play such type of games but don't know anyone who is playing. It would be my first time so I'm curious about this type of game.

3. I like idea of Tyranids because they remind me zergs from star craft universe. It's like horror armies of monsters. They are like plague.
Facing Tyranids seems like horryfing idea, just imagening that there is something big as planet and it's only objective is consuming everything in the universe is terryfing. Its literally living death, it doesnt care who you are, what is your social status, it will get you this way or another.
It was same for me, I once saw my father playing this game and I got interested in it. Later on he bought me my own copy of the game so we could play together. Sadly newest editions of PC Warhammer 40k games are not as good as the old ones so we don't play them as much as the 1st ones.
Somehow I've never heard about Alpharius, he seems to be an interesting character in this universe, I will read about him some more. I really like how Orc's from Warhammer 40k are similiar to Orcs from Warhammer fantasy, it's just difference in weapons.

I've heard about this universe and played plenty of games in it, from tabletop and RPG to video games. Overall I hate space and sci-fi themes (hello Star Wars and alike :p), but despite that, I enjoy WH40K a lot. It's probably one of my favorite, if not the best universe I know. Little tip to people, which would like to try the game, but don't want to spend tons of money, aside from going to GW in Zlote Tarasy to try the game for free, there's also Warhammer 40K: Kill Team which is a bit cheaper hobby :). It not only costs less, but also has a bit less rules and is much faster to play, while standard 40K may take half a day to finish. There are simplified games for fans of fantasy as well - Warhammer Underworlds series and Warhammer: WarCry. About living in this universe... it could be fun I guess, but pretty short, as surviving a single day in this world is already great achievement, especially if we were to be reborn there as normal humans. As for favorite race/army, from the ones you mentioned there's only one correct choice - Chaos Marines. But not those ugly guys from Death Guard Chapter on the picture :). Let's stay away from Nurgle. Blood for the Blood God, Skulls for the Skull Throne!
Ahhh Khorne fan, I see :D Some time ago I tried to get some of my friends on the hype train for Warhammer 40k: Kill Team but they are more of fantasy fans and the idea was ditched. What's fun about Warhammer 40k is that the universe seems to be sci-fi themed, but you can see the huge influence of medieval times (chapters and clans of Space/Chaos Marines, strict codes and rules, but also use of some robust and old tactics from 1st World War (poor Imperial Army soldiers). So while at the beginning, we see huge robots, spaceships, etc. under it, we see some very old stuff.

1. Yes, I have heard about this game and all universe, I think this game is great, it helps develop some skills and abilitys which we can use later in real life. Something like decision-making or confident and rapidly making decisions.

2. I am not a gamer, I would probably never going to play this game. But I think it is very popular because it is so good. Nothing similar comes to my mind for now.

3. I would probably choose space elves. It looks very powerfull. If I have a chance I wouldnt do it. I do not like this universe that much. I prefer my current life.

I haven't heard it before but I think it looks like a great game but I am not really into games so probably won't be bothering to try on playing.
2) Would you like to play this tabletop game and have you ever played or heard about similar games?
I ususally don't play games.
3) Which of the races / armies I have described picked the most interest in you, if you had the opportunity to live in the Warhammer 40k universe, would you do that?
Chaos Space Marines. but if i have the opportunity to live in the warhammer 40000 universe probably i wouldn't want to because well,it's that just
sounds like slavery "with extra steps." :/

1. No, I haven`t heard about it. I`m not interesting in it.
2. No, I haven`t play this game. I know some table games: dices, dominoes, backgammon.
3. Space Marines were the most interesting for me. No, I`ll not, I prefer real one.

1. Yes, I've heard about this universe and even read books, but never played game. I'm never been so interested in this universe. For me, it is perceived as a cartoon with robots. But I found one very cool game mechanic that I want to see in other games. It's a peculiarity of the world in which the faith of the orcs in the fact that red cars go faster, really makes them go faster.

2. I like to play tabletop games. I know the one that is similar to Warhammer, it's called Neuroshima Hex (and it's even Polish game). I had great times playing it but found it very hard and unpredictable (one of the few games in which I‌ can't control every fight).

3. In similar games, I loved to choose insects as I very like Hive Mind mechanics. So I will choose Tyranids at this game as well.
1. Yeah I'm kind of fan of that game. It's really popular and global game after warcraft. I think this universe of Warhammer is impressing and massive! There are variety of alliances and wonderful graphic. I spent about 100hr to play this game I think. So I have really positive opinion about this game.
2. As I state before I like to play Warhammer but unfortunately I have no time for it. I know only Warcraft and Starcraft but they are not similar type of games. Mostly I would prefer to play Warhammer rather than Warcraft.

3.That's really hard question for me. Because I used to play with all of them. In case if I had to choose probably I would play with Chaos Space Marines because they have huge massive army that damages a lot. And there are special skills they can turn into big DEMONS with tremendous dynamic damage that helps easily destroy enemy!

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
