Week 11 [14-20.01.19] VOD in 2019

In 2019 there  will be the decisive dominance of streaming services such as Netflix, HBO GO, and others. We are witnessing how the cable TV is slowly becoming obsolete and the so-called VOD (Video on demand) television is coming. Only a few years ago nobody expected VOD to become such a large part of this market(TV programs/series). Currently, it is already dominating and most of the series that you are talking about comes from these platforms. I think that cable TV will never go away but it will definitely be a minority compared to streaming platforms.

Of course HBO is on the VOD market and normally on TV, but most people use this platform on the internet.

In 2018, when I read various blogs, pages where there were entries about the best series this year, I noticed a certain tendency. In TOP 10 series, at least 7  out of  10 came from VOD streaming. Sometimes even all the series came from the streaming videos. This is amazing.

How will it be in 2019? In my opinion, even more dominance of streaming platforms. And not only because of even more series, bigger budgets on films. This will also be due to the appearance of subsequent giants in VOD. In 2019, it announced the introduction of a streaming service from Disney, which already spins a mass of new series on their platform: series/movies from the Marvel universe and many more.
Probably in 2019 the streaming platform from Apple will start, it hasn’t been officially announced yet and there is little information about the service, but we know that it is being created.
There are many platforms, even Facebook and YouTube have their own. I think that there will be more and more of them.

And more about Netflix:

Netflix is definitely the best and most popular platform that already has a huge advantage over other video streaming.

Netflix was founded on August 29 in 1997. At the beginning, they dealt with renting DVDs. Since 2007 they have expanded their activity by streaming videos. Currently, Netflix is available all over the world except China, where they sell their films/series for TV stations and are also not available in North Korea, Syria and theCrimea through the US government restrictions. It has been available in Poland since September 2016 and has already gained a lot of popularity.

I personally look forward to new platforms and new series because in my opinion therewill be better and better productions.

Here are my questions:
1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?

1. Netlix, but good old the pirate bay is still fine

2. Yes, it can lead to De-Monopolization toward netflix

3.
There are 56 pricing regions according to Netflix's help website.
In Poland. Netflix has a very limited archive compared to other countries. I personally prefer paying a few bucks more for a larger archive; I don't think that even Friends is available.

The only VOD I use is Netflix. It's a great source of entertainment and chill. It has a very wide range of series and films that interest me.
I definitely don't wait and don't look for any new VOD, but Disney's proposition is probably the most interesting for me, because of the sentiment.
For us, the price of Netflix is well above average based on the earnings of ours and people in America which is unfair, it would be nice if it would change and certainly a lot more people would be interested in buying.

To be honest I only use Netflix but I do it rarely. Generally I don’t have time to waste so I use it only when I have free evening and want to watch a movie. I don’t watch any TV series so Netflix isn’t so great for me. It’s movies library isn’t great but it’s enough. I’m not waiting for a new VOD because I don’t feel that I really need something more than I have now.
In my opinion Netflix subscription is OK but comparing to other countries having more content it’s not fair and we pay more for less.

1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
Yes, now i use continuously two of them, Netflix and HBO GO. I think that this two VOD services offering most of worth watching TV series and movies.

2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
No, I wish that they never come to our market. If there will be more VOD services, licences for movies and series will have to divide into this services and you have to buy them all to watch anything. It would be best if there was only one services that covers all needs.

3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
Price for one month subscription is not even half of single movie price. It's not that much for access to thousands of movies and series. But as I said before, it's starting to gets little tricky when you have to pay for 3 or more subscriptions.

Truth be told I don’t have time to watch even movies that’s why I don’t even consider using any VOD service. I didn’t even know about VOD earlier when I had plenty of free time. If I read this article few years ago I would definitely start using one. On the other hand, I have a list of “TOWATCH” films and tv series. The Grand Tour is coming soon, so maybe buying a subscription to one of the services would be a great decision though.

I would like to see how Apple will present their VOD, that’s the only thing I am interested in.

As was mentioned above the price is a bit unfair for those who don’t live in America and thus their earnings could be less. For example, if Netflix reduce the price of their service for certain countries/regions then lots of Americans will start abusing it(using different proxies in order to pay less) and Netflix potentially lose a lot.

The only VOD platform that I subscribe is Netflix. However, I use it rarely. There are two reasons why. Firstly, there are very few productions that I like. Secondly, I do not have time to watch it regularly.

I don't wait for any new VOD platform. The Disney one seems to be very interesting.

It's not expensive when you split the whole price between a couple of people. I share my account with my family members and it's a good way to pay less. Netflix is not the only company that allows doing it. Spotify also gives the ability to split the premium account between family members.

No, I do not have time to watch TV shows or other programs. But I heard that I can pay a Netflix subscription. I think that this is not a big price for a subscription, because it completely replaces cable TV and there is an opportunity not to miss the series, to stop when it requires. I do not wait, but the idea is excellent. For example, Disney would be great for parents who are looking for something to occupy their children. And in general, I think that cable TV can be replaced. Why people use cable TV? You can watch the weather on the phone, entertainment shows on Youtube, in the future one could create a political VOD and more cable TV is not in demand.

Yes, I use very often Netflix and sometimes HBO GO. I think that I can say that netflix is very important part of my life. And I don't need anything else, because Netflix has everything what I need. Price of Netflix I think is very low. 13 zł for one month. Seriously ?
Somebody think that price is too high ? It's ridiculous.
I am subscribed to three video on demand streaming services: Netflix, HBO GO, Amazon Prime. All three of them are valuable for me, as they offer exclusive original content. I have no objections paying for them.

I’m not waiting for Disney VOD because I don’t see any value in it – most Disney movies (including Star Wars and Marvel) are currently available on one of the three services I’m subscribed to. However, if the licensing would change after the introduction of Disney VOD and their movies would disappear from other services, I would subscribe to it.

I’m also not waiting for Apple VOD. Judging from the current and planned Apple television productions, their content is too family-friendly and just not interesting to me.

I have a 4K TV so I’m paying for the most expensive Netflix subscription. Still, I think it’s more than worth it.

Thanks for comment, I am also waiting for new platforms VOD.

Thanks for comment. I mainly use Netflix.

Thanks for comment.
I also think that the price/quality subscription is expensive compared to other countries.
Unknown said…
Thanks for comment.
Of course, this isn't a big price, I think so too. Of course, like you paying 13 zł with other people it is really low.
Unknown said…
Thanks for comment.
Yes, only the most expensive package offers 4k watching, I think it's worth paying extra and enjoying the best quality if you have the right TV.
Unknown said…
Thanks for comment.
I think this is a new standard(VOD) and cable TV will have less and less influence
Unknown said…
Thanks for comment.
Yes, Spotify also has a family package that is really profitable. I think is good solution

That's true, but it can actually be for a long period of time. I think that Apple VOD and Disney + will not come to Poland for a long time. Unfortunately

Thanks for comment.
I'm curious to know what Apple VOD will look like

As far as VOD services go, I use only Netflix at the moment. I'm a lazy person, and as such I'm not particularly inclined towards using multiple platforms at the same time.

I'm not currently waiting for any new VOD services - if anything, I'm mildly concerned with the fact that more VOD services are appearing. While competition is generally a good thing, VOD services try to attract more customers by hosting exclusive VODs on their platform. The existence of exclusives forces people to have multiple accounts on various services if they wish to have access to everything, which is rather inconvienient, especially if all of those services require payment to access their contents.

I think that a monthly subscription is okay as long as the VOD service has access to a large variety of VODs and is not affected by the existence of exclusives too much.
I cannot tell much regarding this topic -- I actually never watch any movies or series, I hardly ever watched TV at all. For some reason all that seems so boring. After five or ten minutes of some film I sense an urge to go do something that has at least some sense -- read a book, do some programming or play a game. Actually huge advantage of games over series is that in a game you actually participate, unlike regular movie. The proof of that this kind of entertainment is way ahead is that the new movie (do not remember the name) in which you actually have an impact on the plot is so colossaly popular. It is called visual novel, my dear Netflixers. Welcome to 2011, and try out "The bunker" and "Late shift". For a start.

I use Netflix and HBO GO on dayly basis. Every day I get back tired from work I watch some stupid show on either Netflix or HBO. Lately I’m considering Amazon prime because of the Grand tour.
I’m not sure that I’m waiting on apple or Disney vod. If they emerge I would love to try them. If they will be good I will consider getting a subscription. (maybe apple vod will come with Apple Music ? That would be nice )
I think that monthly subscription of Netflix is ok when you use it at lest a couple days a week if not then you might reconsider do you need it

I use mostly Netflix and Prime Videos to watch The Grand Tour. To be honest that’s definitely enough for me. One thing that could be improved is just the amount of content available in Poland on Netflix. I don’t have that much time to spend on watching movies or tv series. I usually spend no more than 1 hour a day watching tv. In my opinion, monthly subscription price for Netflix is ok.

Yes, I usually use Netflix and HBO GO. These are the best VOD libraries at the moment. I think that these are the only libraries that are worth attention so I am not interested in any of the announced VOD libraries eg. Apple or Disney. Until recently, you could buy Netflix on allegro - very cheap. Now you have to pay 60 PLN every month, so it's very expensive for me and I have to think about how to pay less.
Anna Moskalenko said…
I’m using Netflix, but I consider using something else, because polish Netflix film library is very limited (compared to American Netflix library for example).
Yes, why not? There’s always things that you should give up to receive something else. There’s no VOD now that can give you all that you want. Maybe someday this kind of VOD will be created.
I think actual price of Netflix in Poland is quite high, but it would be a good and reasonable price if the film library was bigger.
Unknown said…
Yes I’m use Netflix and this service is very handy.
I think no because this will be the same like previously mentioned.
Monthly subscription is no very expensive if you create family account. Unfortunately if we are in Poland we don’t have a lot of movies there because of TVN/Polsat and so on, because they have some rights for a lot of old movies and they don’t want Netflix to stream them.
Yeah, I am using netlix, hboGO and thats all, I used to watch on other platforms but they're closed by now I guess...
Not really, I am happy with what I have now. To be honest why do we need other VOD platforms ? Disney movies are available on Netflix as well. But maybe having oponnent netflix would upload newer movies and series faster ? Who knows.
I think it is very accurate, they're giving customers oppurtunity to share the subscription for just 1 10-15 zł per month it is not much.I think theirs pricing is pretty good.
Yes, I do. The biggest of these is YouTube, I know that this is not a “regular” VOD service, but often I watch a part of a TV show program that is broadcast on demand on regular television :) I also use typical VOD services that provide content in Russian dubbing. I am waiting for Netflix to be in Ukraine. I think you need to pay for quality. The cost of a Netflix Standard plan is 10 euros, this is trifle for good content.

Yes, of course I'm using Netflix now. I think that is the best place in the Internet because there are a lot of series and movies. I don't have too much free time because of work but I like to watch something at the weekend (I have finished first season of Stranger things yesterday, have you ever watched that?). I like YouTube but only for music.
What about second question? No, as I said, I don't have too much free time and Netflix is sufficient for me. Okey, if new VOD turns out better than my lovely platform then I will try it but I can't say that I am waiting for that.
Hmmm, Netflix can be expensive (it's about 50zł per month for medium option) but just think about producers. You have unlimited access to everything (series and movies) whenever you want. It's only 50 zł, it's about two tickets in the cinema. Additionally, you and your friend can watch something in the same time! I think that Netflix price is low, even if it will be more expensive I will pay for that.

1. I think that it is a brilliant solution for watching movies or serials without using torrents (so doing it legally). I use the Netflix and the Amazon Prime.
2. I am not waiting for a VOD from Disney but I am interesting if Apple's platform will show some unusuall function.
3. I think that it is quite cheap. I am using it with my family so we bought one subscription for 4 people and it costs 13 PLN monthly. It's a very good deal.

1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
I use two VOD services: Netflix and HBO GO. In my opinion netflix is a crucial service. There were some VOD's before netflix but any of them became so popular. It mostly because it offers a lot of good series and movies. Also they are creating their own series around the world, which mostly are great. HBO GO i definetly less popular but also offers some great productions.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
Not really. Apple VOD propably would be more expensive and also I'm not a huge fan of their products.
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
I think it is a great price for all the videos and series available there. Also if you pick a higher plan you can divide the cost with up to 4 people and use the service at the same time.
1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
Yes, I use netflix. I don't use it on permanent basis. Usually I buy a subscription for a month and then I cancel it. It is because I am interested in certain series or movie, but not in their whole offer.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
Not really. Netflix is enough for me.
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
Well it might be quite expensive for our standards. But most of such subscriptions are expensive for us since our country is not as rich as western countries where services like Netflix usually come from.
1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
No, I do not use VOD services. In my opinion among them at the moment there is no one full-fledged. In any case, there will be movies and TV shows which will not be not a service, and then you still have to look for them on the Internet. Therefore, at the moment I do not see the sense of paying for such services.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
Perhaps I would pay for Disney service. This company today has become a real giant. It is difficult to list all the firms that were attached to Disney. I don’t know what to expect from Apple’s service, I don’t believe in the profitability of their project with VOD services.
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
It all depends on which side to look at it. Certainly, there are hard-to-find films on the service that can be seen only by paying, and it all depends on the country and language. Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet translated its products into all the languages of the world. And in this case, the person simply does not make sense to pay.
I dont use VOD's personally since i dont watch TV at all and VOD would be just another time waster i dont have time for in my life as of now.
When it comes to next platforms i dont follow whats currently aviable nowadays to tell you if i wait for anything else. Disney's, children targeted VOD though might prove itself very important for parents.
I think that monthly sub has adequate price if u have time to watch it as u would normal TV.

I don't use any VOD services now but I'm going to subscribe to one of them in the nearest future. I need to decide which one is exactly I want to have. I have two candidates: Netflix and HBO GO. I think first option is better but I need to do more researches. Also I little afraid about Disney streaming platform that will be on the market soon. This media giant have already bought many movie companies and I assume that another streaming platforms are not protected too. Disney could buy them and prices wouldn't be so low because as a monopolist "mouse" would have an opportunity to do with prices everything that he want

- I use Netflix and HBO-Go. I think that this is the best choice on the market right now if you live in Poland.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
- No I do not, only becuase I have enough movies to watch on Netflix and HBO fornow.
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
- I think that it is perfect. It is not very expenive and you get a full to all tv shows, movies etc.
1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
Now I don't have time for that but in next few months I want to buy access to Netflix and give it a try. I heard there are some worth watching series.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
I think Disney service would be great especially for adults with children as usually Disneys' productions are interesting and proper for children.
3. Do you think that a monthly subscription for Netflix is expensive or is it OK?
I don't think it is expensive and I find the price being adequate to the offer.

1. Yes, sometimes I use Netflix.

2. Sure, I think Apple will roll out its VOD service one day.

3. Yes, it’s expensive, but there are several ways how you can buy it cheaper.
I've never been subscribed to any VOD service in my life.
For the last 3-4 years, the number of serials which I'm watching is slowly decreasing and today it is only two Game of Thrones and Brooklyn 99. I know that there are dozens of awesome serials but only one thought that I would spend days watching stories about some people is not getting me excited.
Most probably, I will try free trial of Netflix.

I am using Netflix right now and I am thinking of subscribing HBO Go.
I am waiting for Disney+ but I would love to pay a little bit more for a big base of movies in one place, not to have multiple subscriptions.
In Poland, I would say it is expensive for what Netflix is giving in return.

Currently, I'm using only one VOD service – Netflix. I had some affairs with HBO GO and Amazon Prime, but Netflix was the most suitable service for me so far. It fulfills all my needs, so I'm not waiting for any new service. It's affordable and powerful. There are so many TV series and movies so that I always have something to watch.

As I already wrote, I think Netflix is affordable. It's not cheap if you buy it just for yourself, but they have an option to use one account with multiple people, so then it's not that expensive.
Unknown said…
1. Do you use any VOD service or maybe you use a few?
Yes, I use netflix.
2. Are you waiting for a new VOD, example Disney or Apple?
Not necessarily, I'm not going to buy another subscription for just a few new series, etc. It seems to me that currently VOD services have replaced paid channels such as HBO or canal +. Soon there will be some services that will offer access to many different services and I am probably waiting for something like that.
3. Do you think that the basic subscription for Netflix is OK?
It seems to me that it is OK, but only if it is used in more than one person (family packages). In particular, looking at what they offer for the same price on our market and what on the US.

It is a fact that the content could be more, but honestly it is getting better, as compared to a few months ago and now.

I agree, the best package costs a lot for one person. I believe that it could be a minimally smaller cost per person but with access to 4k quality.

Perhaps TVN or Polsat have the influence that there are less films in Netflix, but I don't now

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
