Week 10 [04.06.2018-10.06.2018] Faith Healing (Belief Therapy, Faith Therapy, Energy Therapy)

Faith Healing (Belief Therapy, Faith Therapy, Energy Therapy) is a therapeutic approach in which patients resort to healers to treat their disease.

This type of treatment has its own fans and its market is hot in developed countries. Many of "ideological therapists" are hateful and disgusting. They tend to exploit desperate patients because they are greedy. The issue may become serious and dangerous when patients are encouraged to not to use medicine recommended by doctor and stop medical treatment and instead of that seek for "ideological therapists".
Derren Brown, a well-known British mentalist and magician, in a documentary entitled "Miracles for Sale” presents a set of techniques and tricks used by such therapists. This way, he demonstrates that such people do not have any special power; still, patients have an illusion that they have been healed by them.
Perhaps at first glance, the subject of this documentary seems to be specific for Western countries, church and Christianity, and it might have seen that we do not have such fraud in our society. But if you review it with more accuracy you will find out that he uses the same methods to deceive the audience.

The documentary was published in 2011 and was broadcasted on Channel 4.

Questions:

-      Have you ever thought about the power of beliefs?

-     Have you ever heard about such ideological therapists?

-     In your opinion, how can you reduce the percentage of people who believe in such treatments?

I have thought about the power of beliefs, but there are a couple of things to consider before having a last word in this topic. It is already proven that both placebo and nocebo can have an incredibly strong effects on how our bodies behave, whether we are getting better or not. That's the reason why so many people believe the therapists instead of focusing on the facts.
I have heard about such therapists as well as many other unconventional ways of healing. The truth is that I have never really believed that any of them could work and I feel pity for the people that spend their money and waste their time instead of doing something to actually get better. It's in our nature to have doubts in everything, but we shouldn't rely solely on what other people say. I've heard of some cases where people have died because they haven't trusted the real doctors.
How can we reduce the number of people who believe in such treatments? I believe there is no easy way of doing so. People are independent and make their own choices (pretty often irrational ones.) That's why the most efficient way of fighting such scams is to simply educate people and make them smart enough to make their own decisions based on the knowledge, instead of gossips and wild guesses.

Sure, from my point of view all the human's world stands on the power of beliefs, also changing of them will lead to a changing of the human's feeling of life, priorities etc.
No,but the information is really interesting. By the way, thanks for sharing!
I am sure that the way to reduce it exist, but I can't figure out how.
So it's quite possible that Jesus did these exact same things, claimed to be the son of god, and everyone believed him - and then the world's largest religion formed around it. Fascinating.

Yes, I heard a lot about the power of beliefs and gurus who practice such technics. It's true that thoughts inside our mind can influence our physical and emotional health but honestly, I have no trust to such mentalists and magicians.
In my opinion, people believe in "magical" healing abilities of so-called "ideological therapists" because they want to believe in it. So many people fell for this fraud because they feel so desperate in their lives that they don't want to believe in own strength. And self-proclaimed "belief" therapists use this weakness to drain money out of people.
Maybe we can reduce the percentage of people who believe in such treatments by raising public awareness of this problem. But I don't think that we can stop people from believing in this "magic" altogether.

Science is the result of mistake and practice . Any drug that is available in the world is repeatedly tested and provided that it provides a higher percentage of recovery for the patient than the risk. There is no scientific basis for Energy Therapy in these therapies. repeatedly announced that if anyone has the ability to cure tremendously, they will give it a lot of money, until now, nobody has succeeded in showing that this is a great ability under scientific experiments, to show that healing therapy to this day It's a lie.

Inculcation is one of the ways to motivate and empower. For example, if you indulge yourself every day as a musician and ask everyone around you to tell you this for many years, you believe that you are a good musician. This procedure is often suggested by doctors to improve (treatment is a cure and not a substitute for treatment) for some patients. If provided as a supplement for treatment, it is a good result, but if it is provided as an alternative treatment, it will be very dangerous.
As they say, hope dies last. When someone has a very serious illness, he loses hope for recovery. In such cases, faith can help and improve your attitude, thanks to which the body does not give up. However, if someone cheats and profits from someone's illness and helplessness, it's bad.
I have not heard of any specific case of such a situation. I think that raising awareness about the existence of such cheaters could reduce the number of people who believe in such things. Unfortunately, most such cheats are based on the desperation of sick people.

Yes, I even believe that it works! Not in all cases but sometimes such healing worked for even hopeless patients. However, it's more like miracle. Nope, I though that they exist mostly in hollywood films)
Honestly, I have no idea)

OMG, again 1h+ video, sorry but I'm not ready to devote so much time on this.

- Have you ever thought about the power of beliefs?
Beliefs if what our brain have and since all our world porcesse throug our brain and brain decide hoe to interpret the information its our beliefs decide how to react.
- Have you ever heard about such ideological therapists?
Have never heard about it but might seen on some american christian shows.
- In your opinion, how can you reduce the percentage of people who believe in such treatments?
I don't think its needed. Might be brutal but it's natural selection.

I have heard about the power of a belief - such thing is called a placebo effect. It is proven to be real. If a patients actually believes that the treatment they are undergoing is helpful, they are more likely to recover.
I haven't heard about ideological healers.
You can reduce the number of people that believe in pseudoscientific treatments by education.
I have though about it, and it is somewhat even workable, for example person who is depressed and prepared to die has less chances of curing even with some cool medications, but slightly increasing chances cannot compare with real treatment that a real medicine provides. I've heard about such ideologe, and i think that it had some common sense, as in the fact that if one uses medication for every little nuisance one loses it's natural immunity, that is why i do not use any medications if it is not some serious illness or i start feeling horrible, but these people are just delusional. To reduce number of people who believe in such treatment a proper statictics needs to be organised, how many people died or had their state worsened by "faith medicine", and the same for real medicine.

Yes, I have heard about such therapies. For me, this is stupidity that you can believe them. At least from time to time I can make fun of events related to this type of therapies. People ideas on making money don’t know the limits. I don’t know how to reduce the number of people believing in such therapies. Those who want to believe will believe in it. Maybe some advertising or advertising campaigns would help us. But apparently the problem is not so great.
Education! Education! Education! in medieval times we believed in everything shamans, magic and stuff. by getting and providing proper education to everyone we could stop this insanity.
If anything you believe in makes your life worse u should stop and reconsider your choices in life does not matter if its religion or opinion.

- Have you ever thought about the power of beliefs?
It is proven that positive thinking can help your body function better and healthier and reduce stress. However, it's something simple to me and I don't need a guru, that is usually paid, to tell me how to think positively. I just think that it is one of our basic skills, like reconciliation of thought, and we should try to do it on our daily basis.

- Have you ever heard about such ideological therapists?
Not per se, but spiritual gurus and religions have always been around, and I guess you should be able to do it on your own. I guess, if someone really gets help from these people, to each their own. But in my case, I wouldn't tell it's necessarily a bad thing, but not for me.

- In your opinion, how can you reduce the percentage of people who believe in such treatments?
By education mostly, but again, I think that if someone wants to spend their money that way, it is hard to stop them from it.
Yes I did and I don't belive in "power of beliefs". I think that our beliefs doesn't influance our health. I've heard about miracles that someone got fully recovered out of nowhere which should be normally impossible and I do not have any counter for that but still I don't belive in mysterious power of beliefs. I have never heard about ideological therapists and I find them as frauds (Maybe to harsh but I think they are using people who belive). I think that scientific researches would be enough to reduce belivers of ideological treatments.

It's proven that positive thinking could help during serious illnesses and I knew many people who were strong enough to get fully recovered and even doctor's says that without appropriate attitude chances are fewer.
I've heard about them but I never believed in their power and I don't think that I will ever try it.

Sure, I've heard about this idea. I know some people who make many of the living with this sort of jobs. They are usually fascinating, open-minded and easygoing people. I like to talk with them and make little battles with my science-based mind and their opinions and points of view.

The best way of reducing the percentage of people who believe in such treatments is to flood the internet with real experiments and statistics that it's not what they need.

I have heard about faith healing. Mainly about placebo and cases when it was used and it was used successfully in diseases even such as cancer. I have also heard about self healing by meditation or other ways. Some people say it is just stupid but on the other hand some people say it helped them and they have cured some diseases by themselves. The most popular ideological therapist in Poland is Jerzy Zięba. For most people he is some kind of laughing stock but there are also people who believe in herbs healing and other alternative healing. We should avoid such treatments or use them as a help in being cured by a doctors and that is what all people should do. We cannot prohibit such ideas like alternative medicine but we should inform people about risk of them.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
