Week 8 [21.05-27.05.2018] Video games- the future of cinema

We all know that nowadays technologies are developing faster than ever. But do we even realize, how much have we done to entertain ourselves? People started attempt to make some video games almost from the moment computer was invented. And video games industry has quite long history. I don’t want to mention all that boring historical stuff, I just want to quickly show you the progress. One of the most famous and the earliest games was Pong. Kinda simple and boring game.

In the next 20 years video games industry made a huge step, games became better, more complicated, and of course, graphic was much better than it had been. Games like Street Fighter, Sonic and Mortal Combat appeared.
Probably all of you know what was next, after 90’s. You’ve seen all those games, you played them and video games industry was developing on your eyes, following the development of computers.
I would like to point your attention to newest games and those that are not yet available, but will be released in the nearest future. Video games industry has grown a lot, has done a lot of big and important steps, and nowadays video games are not only about having fun with friends or even having fun at all. Some games tries to raise quite serious and interesting topics, tell you sentimental stories about love, friendship, betrayal and death. As an example I can take The last of us, Life is strange, Horizon: Zero dawn, Assassin’s Creed and many others. I would say, that some of those stories are as good as some books or film stories. Some of my friends called it “intractable cinema”. But till this point those were just video games.
But this year the meaning of intractable cinema will change. Probably you all have heard about Death Stranding.

I think, this game will bring whole video games industry on the completely new level. I think this game really will be intractable cinema. You will be able to see the cinema with some cool story and also take part in it, make important choices and enjoy actors play.
Also I would like to mention Detroit: Become human, that should be released soon. I hope this game will also develop the industry and let people see and feel something new. I think this game has everything to let you feel like a real android and take part in this story on your own, really think about it.

With such games I really hope, that in a few years we will be able to enjoy cinema, where you have to take part in, you will not be just speechless follower of main hero, but you will be a main hero, you will be the one who chooses how this cinema will end, and also you will be able to enjoy actor play of your favorite actors in your favorite stories.

Questions:
1)Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
 2) Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
 3) In your opinion, what is the future of video games?

1. Yes, I do. I think I like them even a little bit more since I don’t feel like I’m spending time on unnecessary and repetitive tasks. However roleplaying and immersion are still important aspects of gaming for me. Hybrids that interoperate good story and cinematics and some challenging gameplay are probably a way to go for me.
2. No actors were never important for me in the movies. I do like only a few actors. But them playing in a movie wouldn’t sway me into watching if ratings and reviews weren’t good enough as well as setting wasn’t the one I would probably enjoy.
3. I think that as a game market grows it will naturally have more variety, but I expect casual games to be especially gaining in popularity. With gaming becoming more mainstream than it already is.

I think of video games as a time thieves. However, I like to play sometimes when bored.

No, I am not fascinated about this idea. I prefer games based on an interesting universe or just a dose of real action.

I think their future is great. Massive amount of people who even started watching other people playing games on youtube will keep the money flowing. There is also a service called twitch, which is built only for this kind of media streaming purposes. I also noticed most of the people playing games can't take care of their lives properly. I'm talking about people who spend too much time for this activity. Summing up, if we wiped out the whole game industry, nothing bad would happen, maybe expect nerd resistance but only in the internet :)

I haven't played this type of games but the idea seems really interesting.
I think that acting is not the most important part of the game - much more important factors are game design and polish - and it depends on these factors whether I enjoy playing a game or not.
I think that the medium will develop in the future incorporating newer technologies - AI, AR, VR, new devices etc. But still the most important type of games will be triple A first person shooters with the newest graphics.

Video games are one of my favorite hobbies.
Playing as a favorite character creates a sense of communication with me during the game.
In my opinion, the future of video games goes up to VR technologies.
Yes, I like the idea of such games. For me the history behind the game is much more interesting. The ability to chose your own scenario sounds perfect for me (even though these scenarios are already predefined). On the other hand sometimes I just want to do some random things just to take a break. This is the exact moment when the action shooters come into play.

I don’t think that it would make more happier or made a better game impression after all. It’s rather just a feature than something I would like to see. I am not sure but you always can change the models in the game.

I am not game addicted anymore that’s why it’s hard for me to make any kind of prediction. But I hope that it won’t be AR or VR based games.

Today I almost never play video games. The only game I play is Hearthstone. I didn't even know about genre of games. I don't feel need to play with my favorite actor. But in the past I liked it when the game makers used faces of well-known actors. A good example is Kevin Spacey in Call of Duty. They used his face and voice. I have never heard about game „Detroit” but I’m waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 because I think that it will be amazing game.

I haven’t heard about such video games, but man I certainly am interested in those at least if story will be remarkable. Yes I’d love to play video game with my favorite actors, but they’d have to play a role of a hero from a movie that I already know, otherwise any other actor would be as good. I don’t really know what is the future of video games as I’m playing less than I used to and am not up to date with latest developments.
I really like interactive cinemas, but never play ones. It can be super enjoyable experience to watch a walkthrough of such game on YouTube, but i am sure that if i tried to play one i would be bored. I don't have favourite actors, and i think that if a character is developed enough to be super interestig it doesn't even need a face. I'm pretty sure that games would develop closer with VR and AR technology into something like in Ready Player One movie =3

1)Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
I did play some games where all you had to do is make some decisions along the way, and all the rest was basically a movie that you should sit back and enjoy watching. (e.g. Game of Thrones: Telltale). I guess they are just regular movies/animated movies with a decision tree-equal number of endings. I guess it's nice.

2) Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
It would certainly be interesting and something new. And it actually seems pretty easy to make.

3) In your opinion, what is the future of video games?
The new trend of streamers and twitch users is clearly visible. Lately I have watched the whole Witcher Walkthrough instead of a new series or a movie and it was a blast. Video games technology is marching forward firmly and it slowly enters the cinema venue. When it comes to the movies, there is less and less to watch, so I guess you're right. Video games are the future of cinema.

I used to like this kind of games, and I still seem to enjoy some of them. I have become much more picky in that matter. Some of the stories just don't seem too appealing to me anymore. I have played and enjoyed some of the games of this kind a lot (The Last of Us, Heavy Rain.) It's not the best type for everyone and it takes much more time than round-based games. I can appreciate it and I think I would continue to play some of them in the future.
I don't really care about the actors in the game, but it was pretty nice to see Rami Malek when I've played 'Until Dawn.' I really like this actor, but it gave away part of the plot right from the beginning. It was just too easy to guess his role in the whole plot by analysing what type of character he usually tends to play in the movies.
I hope that someday gaming would become an every-sense experience and we would be actually able to dive into the game itself. For anyone interested in this matter, I could recommend an anime based on this plot (it also shows many risks connected to this idea.) It's called SAO.

Yes, I love to play games. Often when I play, I see that a few hours have passed. How is this possible? Well, the games are cool and I will always be happy with it.

Well, it would definitely be a great experience. Maybe someday it will work.

I think there are a lot of game development paths. 3D games, motion games, games with augmented reality. I think games are a market that I will develop in every possible way because everyone likes to play games and it doesn't get boring.
I don't like video games at all. But this topic is interesting to discuss. I heard about intractable cinema and know where you can even try it. Maybe i would like to play a video game with my favorite actors if it will be realistic enough and physics will be good. The future of video games is real as you know some interesting thing is developing called VR. I don't have experience in using it but i hopefully will try.

Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
Yeah, that would be great experience when you write your own story. I am curious how we can manipulate the story.
Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
Yes of course.
In your opinion, what is the future of video games?
I think, VR, AI or even “Westworld” concept.
Not really while you can tell a great story through film interrupted by game play we re still in the uncanny valley territory and it would be less enjoyable than a normal film. We have to remember that there are stories to be told only the one way to have meaning and having an option to interact without having an option to really change the outcome is in the end meaningless.
Not really - i mean dont get me wrong i like hearing their voices in the games, seeing similarities between them and the characters in the game (when for example they do a mocap for them) but having them being a playable character might take away from the game in a lot of ways.
I think that in the future we will see two kind of games open world big collaborations in either single or multi player mode and sports games.

I don't have time for games but it sounds great. I like to play GTA or FIFA and some older games. Second question? Hmm, it's a little strange for me. I think not, I prefer my friends :P In my opinion, VR is a future of films/video games. IT is developing very fast and nobody knows that in three years will be make some bigger technique than Virtual Reality but nowadays I think that it is the main product.

Yes, I love it! You mentioned „The Last of Us” - this game is amazing!
One of my favorites is „Until Dawn”, where game characters are real actors too. Rami Malek is playing „Josh” character and I like Rami because of the Mr.Robot series.

It’s hard to say what’s the future of video games, because technology is growing rapidly. I’m sure there’ll be more better quality AR and VR games for sure. Even now I prefer „intractable cinema” while playing games, than actually watching some trash movies(which are quite popular nowadays).

1)Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
Probably not. BecauseI didn't play for a long time(more then 5 years), and even then I played a little bit, so video games don't interest me.

2) Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
No, I don't.

3) In your opinion, what is the future of video games?
I think that games moving to VR, and people just become to dive much deeper in virtual space.

I have never tried the intractable cinema, because I have no longer play any games since my childhood. Only PS with my friends sometimes. Unfortunately I have no free time to play it, but I wish I would try that type of games, because I was thinking a lot about the day when it will appear. The only problem is the addiction. I think gamers would spend more and more time for such games transferring their lives into virtual world. Anyway, I still hope to try it one day, and the cast doesn't matter, because it is interesting itself even without my favorite actors.
The games would keep on evolving, so I am ready to be surprised by the different gaming inventions.

Ony if the history is well-presented and the game was well-designed. I'm not a fan of this type of games, I prefer more action based games. I have many hopes in VR. I think it will make my mind to intractable cinema games.

It's not that important for me who are the actors so I wouldn't make me any difference.

VR, VR and VR. I think that's the future of gaming. We are quite far away from the goal, but I think we are on a good route.
Why I think VR is the future of video games?
The fact that you would use all your senses - sight, smell, touch etc. will play a prominent role in this. Now you are only ~20% in a game, image what would happen and how you would feel feeling 100% of game atmosphere.

Yes, this is my favorite type of games. I like to participate in this stories. I’m not playing too much in video games so don’t know all of the games which you mention in this article and also don’t know anything about upcoming games. But sure that such games which we can call interactive cinema is a fascinating thing and it could be the future of video games. Especially I like to play in “Last of Us”. This story makes you empathize heroes like in a good film. So, for sure I would like to play a game with my favorite actors or play in a “remake” of some good film which I already saw.
I see two directions of future in video games. One is such video games which we can call interactive cinema and another one is competitive games with tournaments like Dota or Counter-Strike.
Yes, I do like games like this. With actors as a main character you can feel the climate of the game better. I am a fan of witcher 3 and I am waiting for next game like this! Of course I would like who wouldn't, on one condition: The game must be good one. I am sick of games like PUBG which are good ones but unplayable because of fps drops and bad smoothness. I think VR is a future of video games, but it needs to be improved and more available for avarage person (the costs are very high right now).

1) Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
I am not a fan of these. I don't really play games too. I have some titles to which I sometimes go back and play again (hotline miami 1+2) and I also have some casual games to just kill the time (fifa, battlefield), but basically that's it. I tend to play AC or GTA in the past and I always didn't enjoy how authors put "cinematic" scenes to the game. I always find it fake enough to don't appreciate it, but maybe this mentioned titles will be a game-changers, I hope so!

2) Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
Not really? I don't know, I like to watch my fav actors/actresses in the movies and rate their play or whole performance, but in the game.. It should be very, very realistic game tho!

3) In your opinion, what is the future of video games?
I think it is going to enlarge and some day become as big as movies industry. More and more money is being put in games, some games had budgets (like The Witcher 3) even bigger than some European movies, therefore I think it is promising business, which is not going anywhere!

I am not a big fan of video games. on my free time i would rather watch movie or go camping, but there has been some times when i have enjoyed them, because of it being based on some of my favorite movie or tv show.
Once again, I am not a big fan of video games but i would love to try one with my favorite actors, but not for a long time and not every day.
i think it is going to be big. there are lots of people who enjoy them and there are plenty of inovations in this theme every day now, i think future of video games will be virtual reality.
I very like cinematic video games and I think this will be future of game industry because every year we have more powerful PC and this means that we will get more realistic picture on our screens because developers will add a lot of interesting effects that will make game much more closer to real world picture.

I don't think that actors mean a lot in games I think in future games we will get possibility to make our self actors in game (scan in 3D) so our avatar will be our look in 3D world.

Yeah, i guess nothing would happen, same as with casino, alcohol or drugs. Just people wont let somebody do that, because a lot people are making a lot of money on that, and even more people are getting some satisfaction from those games)
Unknown said…
Yeah, i hope so, but for now VR is kinda a bit raw( There are already great games for it, tho
Unknown said…
trust me, story is remarkable and that game Detroit is already released, and is already called a game of a year) Im really looking forward to enjoying it
Unknown said…
Oh, I watched that anime) I really hope that we wont come to such situations) Yeah, it's risky, but also such games can give some people a lot of satisfaction)
Unknown said…
Well, I dont think westworl is a good idea) Like, it may turn out to be really really bad idea. But AR and VR are definitely good ways to develop games
Unknown said…
But why not going anywhere? Like, it is self-developing. You know, nowadays in game industry there is more money than in hollywood. I guess, it tells about something)
Unknown said…
Yeah, seems like when games are really starting to care more about stories and actually have resources, to make those stories come to live, cinemas' stories become worse and worse no matter how big budget is

1)Do you like this kind of video games(so called “intractable cinema”)?
Actually I don't play any games because of lack of time but I watched trailer of "Detroit: Become Human" and I am thinking about buying a console, thank you very much... :D
2) Would you like to play a video game with your favorite actors?
Yes of course, I'd love to play a game basen on my favourite TV series "Peaky Blinders"
3) In your opinion, what is the future of video games?
Hope so!
Unknown said…
And as few people mentioned in here, AR and VR is a third way. Well, at least I hope so)
Unknown said…
Yeah, thats why I dont actually like to play in online games) A lot of stupid and rude people, lootboxes and some crap is going on+ kinda high cost. And if you want to be cool, you need to pay even more, so no real reason to play them
Patryk Górski said…
Yes, it looks great if you ask me. All of the possibilites are amazing.

Yes, it could be fun.

I think VR is the future - you can "taste" other life in it and in a 10-20 years it will be so much powerful. I even think that people will mix real life with a video game. We will see how it will be

Personally, I love video games and I play them whenever I have time to, but I’m not a fan of the “intractable cinema” kind of games. My preferred genres are RPG and RTS. I believe that video games that use real actors’ faces are just not as nice and immersive as those that don’t, mostly because you start connecting an in-game character to an actor, and after w while you connect the character to the actor’s other roles, and so a part of the game Is spoiled because of that, at least in my opinion. I think that the future of video games is bright, but not because of the ‘intractable cinema’ games. Instead, the next era of video games lies in the biggest developing studios’ hands, such as CD PROJECT RED – creators of the Witcher games franchise. Thanks to such studios we will enjoy many more great games.

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form.
