Week 10 [08.01-14.01.2018] Playing computer games may have positive effect on your future life

Have you ever heard or read that playing computer games is a waste of time? I’m pretty sure that yes. I’ve noticed some interesting facts which I’d like to share with you.
Image result for playing computer games
Some time ago when I was younger and had more free time I used to play computer games, usually online with my friends but there was one particular game, which was my favorite. I’m talking about Battlefield 3. We used to play and talk on Skype. We almost always won due to our excellent cooperation. We had to plan each battle to be sure that we can win. This game showed us that sometimes it is impossible to succeed without cooperation and you have to rely on your friends. Later when we had less free time we decided to go out beer from time to time and then we became a group of 5 close friends. We still have good contact and often try to go for holidays together. Not only did this game show us something but also made us friends.

Such games not only teach us cooperation but also improve our problem solving skills. We often have to find a solution in games and solve problems, puzzles etc.
Let’s take into consideration the games which action is quick and we have to be perceptive and concentrated. In my opinion it is great training for our brain. Also,  while playing computer games, we improve our hand-eye coordination, so useful in everyday life.
It’s obvious that there are computer games which are a total waste of time but we can’t forget about the good ones, which may have positive effects on our life. I’ve mentioned only a few positive effects but I think that it wouldn‘t be a problem to find more of them.
Questions:
  1. What is your opinion about computer games generally?
  2. Are there any games that you can mention and tell something about their effect on your life?
  3. Maybe you remember games which didn’t have effect on your life but you’d loved to play them? Share with us.

I like them. This is nice entertainment, it may even be educational (on of my favorite games from childhood was a game to learn english). The most important is, as with everything, not to exaggerate, so it won't be an addiction. If you have got control over it and you can end whenever you decide (so you've got no problem with it) it is good.
Mentioned game, spooky moon or something, was great. It was spooky house and where you have to look for mentioned stuff, to do things according to the instructions. I loved playing it, I used to play with my sister (sitting next to each other). This one was good for our english.
Games without impact on my life were Zeus/Poseidon games, they were logical games. There were also Sims2 - it took a lot of time (always creating family, house - those were the most time consuming stuff). There was also some ScoobyDoo game, logical for kids. I used to play computer games when I was in primary school - then, we got a console and I switched with my games there.

Personally, I wouldn't consider games like Battlefield beneficial for anyone, especially for children. They make violence something normal, something you accept and even take pleasure from it. It also interfere the view of what the war is, killing and watching your friends die becomes a life trauma for many soldiers and I think it's not something that should be fun for anyone. You may say that I take this too seriously, but I really can't see any positive effect of playing such games. I haven't played any FPS and I think I haven't lost anything. When I was a child I was playing many games that I enjoyed and in general I don't think they are bad, but I can't see any positive effect of playing them in my present life. The only aspect that comes to my mind is that it was fun way to spend time with friends, as you mentioned, but I believe it doesn't make it any special. We could as well play some board games and have fun.

For me games are a really huge waste of time. Especially for adult people who could do something really interesting instead of playing games.
In my life I think I was playing only two big games - The Sims and Test Drive 6. I don't think any of them could have any impact on my life. But of course I loved to play ;)
I consider computer games (actually not only computer, board games also) as a part of art, which include movies, books, paintings etc. I do not see any problem if someone spends one hour per day for gaming. What is wrong with it? Of course, one game does not equal to other one - there are some games that are believed to be harmful for player.
But as I said, generally computer games are ok. I see a trend among players that turns out in telling everyone how games are good for everything, like being better at school or at business. So, I think that games have some positive effects on us (some as books), because we must think while doing it ( opposite of movies or tv series), but still, it's not quantum physics.
My history with games is quite long so I have some milestones in it:
- My favourite game ever will probably be Persona 5 from 2017. When I think without nostalgia, there were no game like Persona 5 before. Well spent 90 h.
- My childhood game would be probably Heroes III = I've spent a lot of hours playing with friends (offline).
- Also I've spent over 400h in Counter Strike which lead to have stronger bounds with some of my friends.
As a fan of Japanese game market, this year was amazing. Super Mario, Zelda or Nier Automata - I love those games, still I don't think that those have changed my life

Come on... Battlefield is not for children so please don't exaggerate with this violence. I also don't agree with your point of view because for me Battlefield was the game that took me a little bit into soldiers life and I started to think aobut them and their situation, life etc. It only shows us the variety in points of view. I don't agree with you at all but I respect it.

As you said, games are a waste of time but only for adult people. I think it's different when you are younger. I think that The Sims is a title that everyone heard about but Test Drive? Particularly that you are a girl. Really interesting ;)

That's right, I'm also pretty sure that games are part of art. Ecpecially this ones that are based on books or movies etc. I see that you share my point of view. Great to hear :)

You're such a lucky person. I would like to play games with friends, especially horrors, but my friends are not keen on games.
I remember being a little girl and playing a game about mouse Mia. It was really good, I learned a lot from it (about vegetables, vitamins, nature, etc). But we should consider PEGI. I don't think it's a good idea for children to play Mortal Combat (or other games like this, where there are a lot of cruelty, blood). There was also a game that I played at the age of 7-9 years old, I don't remember actually. It was about a cow that was hit by a car, the cow fainted and got inside its body(or mind?), ran there and fought for its life. I couldn't sleep for a few days after playing the game :( It was so sad.
Lukasz Mroczek said…
Yeah, you're right. It was great thing that me and my friends were all into games :) I think it's obvious that we should respect PEGI but in my opinion when we are young, our parents should try to control it.

Yes I agree that some games have positive influence on people but very often people don't have control over games. I sometimes like playing some games. I like good old games for example Diablo II , Stronhol, Age of empire II but I know very often games have good graphics and this is the only plus. About new games I love GTA V and THE Witcher. For me The Witcher is the best game in the world and the creators set a high bar for others but for themselves too.

Playing computer games is one of my ways to spend my free time. I have a lot of friends that play games, and most of the time I play cooperative games with them, like Heroes 3, WoW, Left 4 Dead and more. I also met a lot of great people during playing and we are good friends now. There are also single player games that have a great storyline, and are thought-provoking, like Mass Effect or Heavy Rain.

I have mixed feelings about computer games. I like them but the older I get, the more I think that they are only waste of time. I think the biggest adventage is that you can play with your friends and streghten your friendship. It also gives you fun and in my opinion it doesn't develop anything. Maybe a little bit but you can achieve more by using this time to learn new things like coding and solve real world problems.
I was playing League of Legends a lot in my high school. It was great but from todays perspective it didn't give me anything. It only made me fatter.

In my opinion playing computer games is good way to spend free time. I like to do that with my friends.
Secondly, I can't say that games are good or bad effect on my life. It's unreal and that's all.
I love to play FIFA and GTA series. I have spent a lot of time on them but I don't regret it.

I think computer games are a good way to spend your free time. As a child, I really liked to play strategic games like Rome:Total War, Age of Empires, and I think it helped me evolve my logical thinking. Did I play games that didn't have effect on my life? I think GTA and knowing how to steal a car didn't really helped me in real life ;)
I used to play computer games a lot few years ago- now I dont have neither time nor need to play but in my opinion games are great to spend some time alone or with friends (but not too much- after long gaming sessions I felt like a garbage).
Well... some strategic games like Stronghold: Crusader made me interested in medieval history. Later games like Total War series, Civilization series and Crusader Kings 2 has the same effect but deeper.
Game that didn't has effect on my life but I loved to play it was Heroes of Might and Magic III- what a game!

I like playing videogames. It is a very general hobby nowadays, really, as reading books, watching TV series and other stuff like that. Well, I can't say that some games are affected my life, except that I choosed game-developpement as my specialization in college. Maybe some games, like Call of Duty make me interested in the modern warfare and the evolution of the warfare itself nowadays.

What I like to play is games as XCOM series (original and new one), Xenonauts, I just love both strategical and tactical managing in such games.
You should balance playing games with other activities. Like, I love playing games but i know i cant do it for whole day unless im completly free of my responibilities.

Any game has some efect. For exaple i like rts. It makes me to analyze everything and it helps evolving logical thinking. Some fps games can make you react faster and also make your decisions faster. There are also games that just can help your social life like mmos and for example heroes.

I like playing computer games. I consider it as a good way of spending free time. They might have good influance on us (better reflex, improve strategic thinking, teach history of the world etc.). However I spend less time on playing video games than I used to.

One of my favourite games is Counter Strike. I spent so much time playing it. I think this game had big impact on my present life. I even used to watch championships in this game.

I remember playing "Uncharted" for the first time. It didn't have any impact on my life in any way, but I was impressed with the graphics.
Nowadays computer games strive to be more of a pinnacle of competition than a means of relaxation as for me. One game in particular - Age Of Empires 2 picking up this game early in my life (6yr old) has greatly impacted my knowledge about medieval times and interest in those. Being able to read into a history of Constantinople and then being able to "play " the story was a great thing (and the other way reading the story after being interested in Genghis -Khan in the game)

Genereally i consider games based off books as a great creativity cheks - Witcher series for example - having read the books, playing the games afterwards was a great experience both story wise and seeing how others have imagined a fictional character based on their description in books.

I really like computer games. I play on FIFA (PS4) and Civilization VI (Mac). I think if you don't spend 18 hours per day on playing but just a few and only in your free time and you don't forget about spending time with your family and friends games may be good entertainment. Well I started play on FIFA when I was 5, my first FIFA 98, and that game made me fall in love with football :) And that is very positive effect, because, as football fan I visited 3/4 of Europe to watch football matches.

I've done more hours playing games than I'd like to admit, few years back. I liked it, I prolly still do, just don't have the time anymore. Maybe Ill get back to it when I retire ;) Games that had an effect on my life? I could say every single one had left something, enriched me in some way, the more beautiful and original the more it did. Played some Lineage 2 where I met my best friends which I keep in touch still after like 10 years or so since we met in the middle of a virtual town. Quite amazing when I think about it. There were other games like mario and similar (ah playing with siblings), many racing games, some shooters, I remember The Journey game which struck me as a most unique game about just walking, adding the visuals and music that was a piece of art. Dota for life as well.
Playing computer games is my favourite thing to do, and there are too many titles to list just a few. Lately for example I'm playing Crusader Kings II and it's unbelievable how much you can learn about medieval feudal system just from playing it. Especially when I was younger and used to play a lot of strategy games, I often was wondering about the most effective way to solve particular problem (level) - this made me a very logical and careful person that often evaluates all possible outcomes of given action before going in. I can say that video games definitely have a very positive aspect on you, but only some specific ones and not multiplayer massacre filled with insults and 12yo boys shouting at each other.

I really like computer games. I fully support the opinion of the author of the article. Our world does not stand still, it is developing. It is worth taking and learning new ways of self-development. Games train reactions and memory, mindfulness and the ability to make quick decisions in critical situations. There are many games for adapting people with different problems. Many games replace books for us, of course, books are still more useful, but this is another way to relax and leave for a short while out of reality. They also allow a person to be someone else, increase self-esteem and realize desires.
I believe that largely thanks to the game, I chose my future profession. I studied at the Institute on an architect when I tried to play a series of games Assassin Creed. I was so impressed with the detail of the environment. All these monuments of architecture and just beautiful buildings, they are amazing. Then I realized that I also wanted to create something like that.

I don't like playing computer games as I spend almost a whole day infont of a screen so during my free time I try to stay away from it. I've never been a gamer, maybe Need for speed sometimes, but there is no game that influenced my life in a certain way. I prefer to spend my free time actively. We are spending most of the time in front of a computer, our muscles weaken therefore we can have faulty posture, kyphotic spine and so on. I liked playing the Sims as a child and racing games. I even got a steering wheel to connect to computer (and as it turned out later to PS3 as well).

Hm, that's right. We have to take into consideration that sometimes games take control over gamer and here comes the real problem.

So lot of people play computer games, especially in our school. It's popular. So we can say that playing computer games can create strong friendships.
In my opinion computer games are generally good thing if we do not abuse them. I think, that it can improve our reflex if we play for example FPS games. I played computer games since i was young. I always had a great time and a lot of fun while i was playing them.
Lukasz Mroczek said…
I share you'r opinion. I used to play games a lot but nowadays I don't even remember when I turned on my steam account last time because I don't have time.
Lukasz Mroczek said…
GTA is the best series in my life also but FIFA is a game which is number one in gathering friends together to play tournament.
Lukasz Mroczek said…
I also consider GTA as a part of my life but this series was rather created to entertain players on really high level.
Lukasz Mroczek said…
I understand you. I don't have time to play computer games as well as for commenting this article lol

I like playing games, they are like (mostly) an interactive movie, at least the ones that give you choice. You can feel the hero and sympathize with him. As for the other ones, well... Sandboxes of all kind- I can sink for some long time in those games, building something from nothing.. I also like strategies, as I like to plan some attacks or build defenses. Sometimes I just need a game to chill-out, and then some fast-paced shooter is just perfect, where you jump right in the middle of a fight, score some heads, or blow up a noob in tank with your car loaded with C4.

>Are there any games that you can mention and tell something about their effect on your life?
None of them, maybe some simulators where I wanted to be a captain of a u-boat, or get a pilot licence, but I wouldn't say anything more than that.
>Maybe you remember games which didn’t have effect on your life but you’d loved to play them?
All of them, how can you dislike a game and yet still play it?

I don't have any particular opinion about computer games except for that they can entertain us. There are so many game genres right now on the market that everybody might find something for them. My favourite type of games are car-related but I don't think that they have any effect on my life, I am just interested in cars and I like everything that is connected with them.

1) It's fun. Period.
2) Uhh none? I don't go of anywhere and start attacking people with an axe after playing some rpg or slasher so NOPE.
3) ALL OF THEM (seriously list is too damn long to even start).

To be honest, I don't play computer games a lot. My favorites are: FIFA, Football Manager and Counter strike. I think that these games have rather positive effect on my life. In my opinion some games can have a bad effect on children. For example GTA. However, it really all depends on the child. Everyone can react diffrent way in difficult situation.
Patryk Pohnke said…
They provide huge amount of entertaining for reasonable price, available all the time, from every place where you can use computer.
Well, MMORPG are very time consuming. Such games should be avoided by people with weak will.
I guess most of the games I played didn't affect my life, so the list would be long. It is important to remember that game is only virtual and playing games should be a way to relax yourself not to stress :)

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
