Your voice says a lot about you

Our voice can either conceal or reveal our emotions. During the speech, your tone of voice is as important as message, even excellent speech will be a total flop if your voice starts to quiver.

The video shows how much voice says about you.

Have you ever had situation when your voice started to quiver? If so, what kind of situation was it?

Have you heard before about vocal folds’ “extra” duties?

Do you pay attention to your interlocutor’s tone of voice?

Of course, most of the time this happened during my first job interviews and team calls, but then got I use to this and started to see it from the completely different point of view.

Have you heard before about vocal folds’ “extra” duties?

I did not. Honestly. it was quite informative video for me. Thank you:)

Do you pay attention to your interlocutor’s tone of voice?

I don't do it on purpose, but the tone automatically affects the content of the interlocutor’s message.

1. Have you ever had situation when your voice started to quiver? If so, what kind of situation was it?
Actually my voice doesn't quiver when im nervous but my hands are shaking or sometimes legs. I remember when I was doing my driver licence, upon taking an exam my leg was shaking so bad i almost coudn't control everything properly. I was lucky that i calmed down a little but that thing has never ever happend to me that is why I was so surprised
2. Have you heard before about vocal folds’ “extra” duties?
No, I wasn't interested in it before. The video itself informed me about it. I felt like getting to know how to stop being so stressed could be more important than getting to know why my voice shakes when I'm nervous. It's just more practical solution :)
3. Do you pay attention to your interlocutor’s tone of voice?
I think i don't pay attention to it but if the persons voice is really deep or characteristic it automatically makes us to focus on it. If the voice is quivering people are trying to calm the person down. It's the way of expressing the feeling and i would love to stop on that

1. Yes, I had situation like that. I guess what triggered it was just feeling terribly helpless. I hate that, but I guess it's just human reaction. I've always wondered what causes it, on biological level.

2. No I didn't! It seems so weird that something big like this isn't common knowledge. All I learned in biology is that vocal cords stretch or tightens, to modulate our voice.

3. Yes I do. Tone is almost as much important as words. You can often detect if someone's lying or not sure of what they're talking about. Tone also usually may impact how you are received. If you tone is weak and breaking, there's possibility you will not be taken seriously.
1. Have you ever had situation when your voice started to quiver? If so, what kind of situation was it?

Yes. I think that everyone has been in at least one of this kind of situation. I remember the most the situation on my polish spoken exam. I was really stressed out, because it was really important, and polish wasn't my best subject. I've got a topic, that I didn't understand that much, and because of that my voice started to quiver. I tried to calm down, but it was quite difficult, taking into account the small amount of time that I had for my spoken part.

2. Have you heard before about vocal folds’ “extra” duties?

Not really, but they were pretty interesting.

3. Do you pay attention to your interlocutor’s tone of voice?

Yes, I think that I'm really sensitive towards the change of someone's tone of voice. It says a lot about their mental state of a person that we are talking with, and if you detect earlier that they might be annoyed, you have a chance to try to avoid it, by talking about something else or in a different tone of voice.

Hi Artur, you are right, there some symptoms of stress or nervousness: shaking hands or legs, sweat, quivering voice. Each person is different and acts in other in other way. I'm happy, you found out something new from this video.

Hi Kinga, thank you for your comment, i pay attention to tone of voice too, in my opinion, it is quite important during talk, it allows to better understand your interlocutor and notice emotions, as a result there is much easier to achieve agreement.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
