Week 11 [18.01.21-24.01.21] Is there a future for TV?

Is there a future for TV?

Over twenty five years ago people already started to think that the end of television was close. However, it’s 2021 and we can still hear that prediction, even though television is still alive. To answer the question of this article, it is necessary to take a look at this topic from a different point of view.

Natalia Hatalska, a blogger at hatalska.com and a creator of Infuture Institute, worked on creating a report about the future of television. It is a collective piece of work prepared by UPC (a Polish media provider) and OMD (a marketing agency). Studies described in this report present three key change factors such as: social, economic and technological (AR, VR, 5G technologies). The research resulted in the analysis of the consequences of these changes. Needs and expectations of the youngest generations concern interactivity, easy access to content, immersive viewing and multiscreen. Economic aspects of the change can be seen in the form of new business and subscription models.

There is a huge  need for new technologic solutions which results in new forms of distribution.
Thanks to new technologies we can have our television almost everywhere. Younger generations watch huge amount of television of new age. They consume obscene amounts of video content online. This is the strongest trend on the Internet and it is still increasing fast. Next to Youtube there are also Facebook and Snapchat, which quickly found out how to earn money on these trends.

Is there a future for a TV set? Marek Maciejewski, growth director at TCL confirms. Not so long ago people in Poland were happy with their 32-inch TVs but then year after year the size of TV was still growing. This year will be no exception. Diagonal length of TV will be bigger and technology will be more advanced. People tend to  upgrade their TV sets. The possibilities and improvements are changing all the time and TV producers are up to date with all technical novelties trying to please their clients.

Television is very alive. Right now we are living in a golden era of video. We are able to experience multiple formats, high budget movies and TV shows created for silver screen and streaming platforms. Older generations like our parents or grandparents still tend to watch movies on television rather than on the Internet.  Television is also the most influential medium these days. It may be due to the fact that only 3,3% of Polish households don’t own a TV.

  1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
2.   Can you imagine world without television?
3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?

Yes, I do watch TV. Not so often, but it happens. Mainly I watch some popular films or football matches which are just being shown. For example last productions that I watched were first and second part of the Lord of the Rings. I think I can't evaluate how much time do I spend in front of the TV, because it depends on my life's moment. There are periods when I am watching more films and matches, for example when some popular TV series is broadcasted, eg. LOTR, Harry Potter or Fast and Furious. Another period, when I spend more time in front of TV, is football big tournament like World Cup or European Championship.

2. Can you imagine world without television?

Yes, I think that streaming platforms, media and social media apps will be able to replace television in our everyday life, maybe it won't happen soon, but I think it is quite possible that in the future TV won't be necessary.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

I think that with growth of Netflix, YouTube and other platforms popularity, television will lose its relevance, but it still be a lot of people that will be using TV, for example older users that won't be able to master using streaming platforms.

No, I never watch TV. I have a TV at home but it just connected with my computer to watch film or videos I want on the big screen. I don’t watch the news, because I prefer newspapers. You can read articles you want in your own tempo, without any annoying ads, paid subscriptions etc. Watching films on TV does not make sense for me, because they’re too many ads, and you can’t choose the film you want. It’s easier to watch it on the Internet. Another TV programs are mostly worthless, so there no sense to watch them.

2. Can you imagine the world without television?

Yes, I can. television made sense when there was no internet. Now it is usually watched by old people who do not use a computer.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

I think that TV as a subject won’t disappear, they are already different from the previous ones. Modern TVs mostly connected with applications like Netflix or YouTube, so you can watch films or series you’d like without connecting with computer.

1.Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
No, I do not watch TV now. I used to watch it a lot in my childhood. The most popular channels for me were Nickelodeon and Jetix with SpongeBob, Hey Arnold, CatDog and Sonic X. Nowadays, I think, there is no need to watch television. I prefer to watch videos and shows on YouTube and TV series or movies on streaming platforms. What about news, I read it on the Internet or know it from independent journalists or news bloggers.

2.Can you imagine a world without television?
Yes, like before the invention of TV. :)
What about now, in my mind, a television will begin to disappear when there would be no demand. Right now young people prefer to know news and entertain through the Internet and services like Netflix. But TV is still popular among older people, who do not want to deal with streaming services and change the way they live. For example, my grandparents and sometimes parents do not want to refuse from TV.

3.What is your opinion on this subject? Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I have partly answered this question in a previous answer. But what about a way how the TV can disappear, I think, channels will slowly move their programmes and movies on a national analogue of streaming platforms. I know, that some television channels already have such options: you can watch their shows on TV in real-time, or Internet/ YouTube whenever you want.

No, I'm not watching TV. I had the craze to watch cartoons or dance songs on TV during childhood of course, but now web series and social media site have taken a place and technology is also growing so that I watch it on my laptop. What I know is that I have a lot of TV memories, like fighting for a channel with brothers, fighting for remote TV, even I had a habit to sitting in front of TV than eat meal and I spent hour and hour to finishing my meal and my mother getting so tired with it. Nowadays, things are changed, I can stop my program and do my other things and then resume and continue to watch again. Nowadays, things are changing. So, it's so flexible, but you can't pause on TV to miss the climax of your film or something.

I know I'm in the minority on this topic. I recognize that nothing other than throwing back a nostalgic glance, imagining greener pastures behind me, is what I am doing. Television is here to stay and is continually changing. Most of what comes out of it is crap, but amongst the junk there will always be gems. But I can't help to look back and wonder: are we better off, really? And, more than anything else, imagining what it would be like to live with all of our daily conveniences in 2010, minus TV. It's not a fair play, I know that. Yet I nonetheless think of it.

I don't believe TV can vanish because there are so many sophisticated versions available on TV now as well. Television is for fun, and I think that it has its own meaning and principles that we can not give the right opinion about it. TV is still part of the technology, and now it has some sophisticated features, so it won't vanish like I imagine.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
Yes, I watch TV. I would say it's around 3-4 hours a day, but most of a time it's just a background and I don't really watch it.
2. Can you imagine world without television?
Not really. Television was with me my whole life and I don't think that it will change. Although Internet is getting more and more popular, I think that Tv will be there.
3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I don't think so. Maybe in a distant future, but my prediction is that it will be more than 50 years, and I'm still not sure if it happens at all.

1.I do not watch TV.
2.Yes, I can imagine it because I don't use it myself.
3.I think television will never disappear which is a pity. There are still interesting channels abroad where you can watch valuable films. Unfortunately, such channels do not exist in our country.
Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
I used to watch a lot of TV while I was living in my family house, but now I have TV only for PS. ;) I stopped watching TV as soon as I came to Warsaw. In my first rented studio apartment I didn’t have a TV, so I watched YouTube or Netflix instead. After only few months without TV I started to see how stupid emitted shows are. All of those stylized people presented as “real”, hilarious “reality shows” on which people are looking for their true love, or even better, getting married with completely stranger to see if they can develop true love, of course for final money prize. ;) Despite that, I cannot say that TV shows are only stupid, I really like watching documentaries or good movies, but I prefer online platforms, without terribly long advertisement blocks showing up as soon as I got involved in whatever I watch.

2. Can you imagine world without television?
Yes, but I think it’s not possible. I personally don’t watch TV, it’s not enjoyable for me, rather upsetting, so it’s not hard for me to live without it. Although I know that there are many, many people addicted to TV, or simply enjoying it. I think that they’re mostly older people, maybe not so familiar with technology as the younger generation. Some of them are watching news on TV daily, and it’s the only source of information from around the world for them. Despite the fact, that they’re different on every channel, I guess it’s the same for newspapers or internet websites. Television has its great role in entertainment industry and its popularity doesn’t drop rapidly. From my first hand experience I know that there are many people, who can’t imagine life without TV. Even my auntie visited me once and as soon as she noticed that I don’t have TV she said to me “How can you live like that? U know nothing about the world around you, that’s cruel!” I believe that popularity of Television will eventually fade a little, but it’s a long, long journey ahead of us. :)

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I think it will disappear eventually, but as I said previously it would be a long process. But the longer I think about this, my mind is changing. Maybe it wouldn’t just disappear, people are so connected to it that it would rather change completely than disappear. It’s hard to predict the future and I cannot say much. :) I believe it’s a very interesting topic to think about. In my opinion it won’t vanish, beacause there are still people enjoying it. There are still kids watching cartoons on tv, and as long they can do that, they will learn that TV is fun, and so that knowledge would be eventually transmitted to their own kids, and so the circle is closing. Even though world without television could be better, I don’t believe it’s possible.

1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
The only thing I use the TV set for is Netflix. It's more convenient to regular TV, I can choose any show and any episode I want, moreover, I don't have to deal with annoying commercials. I really can't stand TV. Programs like reality shows or breakfast shows are, in my opinion, the lowest form of entertainment. They are not smart nor funny, I just can't watch them. I used to watch a lot of historical channels growing up, but once I saw a show about UFO conspiracies on history channel few years ago I lost my hope for television.
2. Can you imagine world without television?
I don't really watch TV, but I can't imagine a world without TV. Television is a big part of pop culture, talent shows are responsible for creating many modern stars. Television creates sensation and drama. Moreover TV journalism is still very important in modern days- it kind of has a hold on politicians, monitoring their every move and keeping them in check.
3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I don't think that TV will disappear any time soon. As long as owners of TV stations find it profitable, they will hold on to it. Maybe they will try to change it into something more suitable for internet users?

1. Yes, I do. My TV plays most of the time, mainly to produce some sound in my surroundings, because I don't like silence.
2. Television nowadays plays such a big role that it is hard for me to imagine everyday life without television.
3. It seems to me that television is going to change, not too soon, but it will happen someday. One day classic television will end and streaming via the Internet, such as Netflix, will dominate. Internet streaming is already becoming more and more popular.
1.Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
Honestly, I only watch sports on TV. I usually watch football games, mainly the English league and the German league. It seems to me that during the week I spend 6 hours watching TV. I usually watch 3 games on a weekend, on average 2h each.

2.Can you imagine world without television?
Once upon a time I was addicted to television, but now I don't really watch television at all. The role of television is diminishing, it is no longer so important in shaping views. Young people, the youngest generation only watch TV to laugh. Television has been replaced by the internet and internet services.

3.What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
It seems to me that the role of television is diminishing. It becomes an archaic product, it seems to me that the younger generation only watches sports events on television, and that ordinary television - series, news or current affairs programs - is watched by older people who cannot use the Internet. A big event will be selling a license to show sports events to internet services. Then the number of people watching TV will drop significantly. For example, if Netflix bought the rights to show ski jumping competitions.
1. I do not watch TV, but I watch movies and series on Netflix or HBO GO. Do I watch a lot? Depends on how much free time I have.

2. I think it would be embarrassing if the people of the world didn't have television.

3. I think that television will remain and will only be presented on the news channels.

1.I don't watch TV at all. I don't have any set-top box at home and I don't use internet TV. Only via some streaming channels related to television if he wants to watch a selected episode of the Wojewódzki talk show or a football match. I prefer streaming and movies. Television is stupid.

2. Of course, I'll even say more. In my dream world, I wish there was no television. Most of these are programs that fool people. Lots of ads. In the news, only selected messages, often negative, to make people feel eternal anxiety. Only older people watch TV. The younger ones know long ago that this is not worth paying attention to.

3. I think it will disappear and I urge everyone who watches TV to stop. Nothing interesting to learn and only selected programs offer cool content. The rest bombard us with unnecessary and stupid videos.

1. I don't really. I prefer netflix. Worst thing about TV is tremendous amount of ads. I just can't stand waiting 30 minutes in the middle of the movie, listenig to dumb ads.
I spend some time watching netflix though. I think about hour a day tops.

2. Sure. As I don't really watch it, it's not that hard. I think that actually could let to some good changes. People would realize that there are lots of news sources they can choose from, instead of just passivly receiving them from tv.

3. TV will surely dissappear someday. Not today, not tomorrow but someday. TV stations are doing their best to modernize, but it's simply not enough to fight the internet. There are too many advantages of the internet to the TV. For example, I can choose what to watch and when to watch, instead of waiting days for the movei to be on tv, and then again, ads...

I've used to watch it as a child, but not anymore, since I think youtube replaced it for me. I think on a lazy day I can watch YT for 2hrs.

2.
I think TV has it's perks, and I would be sad when it would shut down altogether even though I'm not use it at this time.

3.
I think TV will change to be more interactive with the viewer and be more internet-like.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
In recent years, I've been watching a lot less TV than I used to. When I was younger I used to watch TV 3-4 hours a day. Nowadays I don't turn on the TV too often, except for football games or Netflix. This is due to lack of desire and time.

2. Can you imagine world without television?
I think yes, if there was no television then people would definitely have better contact with each other. However, I don't see television as a bad thing, it serves as the only source of information for many people.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

I think television is not likely to disappear in the next few years. Television sets will continue to sell very well.

1. Since I moved away from my parents, I have stopped watching TV completely. Of course, I have a TV, but I only play selected films on it. I don't watch journalistic programs, and learn about news from the world from the Internet.

2. Paradoxically, I don't think so. Even though I don't watch and probably won't do it, I can't imagine the world without TV. At the moment, I suspect that the majority of society enjoys this type of entertainment anyway.

3. I think television will never dissapear. If a large outflow of viewers from the screens is observed, specialists will start changing the formulas of the programs broadcast. There is too much money in this industry for it to just disappear.
Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
No I haven't watched TV since I moved to Poland, 2 years. I used to watch it, mainly sport or some movies.
2. Can you imagine world without television?
Yes I can because now I am living without TV and it seems like everyone is living like that.
Maybe our old generation is used to watch it, especially if they watch some TV shows where they discuss daily routine issues. As I noticed since last years lots of TV shows and Tv series are moving to online sources.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I think it won't disappear on our near future because we still have big audience there.
I think that the people using TV might decrease like a radio after a decades, but I don't think it will disappear
@PrzemysławBaka I agree that the growth of platforms such as Netflix or YouTube has changed our perception of entertainment. Nevertheless, this kind of "television" is still more popular among people of our age.
@PolinaRybachuk I find very interesting what You've said about reading newspapers. I would like to know if you read them in traditional form or the digital one? I think his is another fascinating subject – the future of newspapers.
@AnastasiiaBida I also remember channels like Jetix and all these cartoons which I used to watch almost every day. Every day I had about two hours when I could watch TV. My parents were very strict about it. Nowadays, things have changed and children watch their favourite cartoons or movies in Internet, so probably their generation won't care about TV anymore.

I don’t watch tv for a long time now. I actually bought access to many tv channels a couple of years ago and used it maybe 20 – 30 times, but I’m still paying for it because every month I forget to cancel and I think that many people or households may be in this situation when they have a television but don’t use it very much.

I don’t think that the world without television would be much different with so many streaming platforms and access to television through the website for the channel.

I think that tv might disappear soon because most of the people who watch television daily are elders and people who don’t have access to the internet. And in some time many more people will switch to streaming platforms.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
I stopped watching TV a few years ago. Obviously I can see something from time to time. For example some movies or "Kuba Wojewódzki" but more often I don't feel the need to do that. If I really want to watch something I prefer to choose something from the internet e.g. Netflix. Summarizing I do not spend time watching normal TV or it is a really small amount of time per year.

2. Can you imagine world without television?
Yes, as I said in a previous question. I don't feel the need to watch it. Nowadays you can find every piece of information on the Internet. I also think it is better to spend this free time with your friends or family instead of watching TV.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
In my opinion TV will disappear in the near future. Right now probably the largest number of viewers are older. I think young people or young adults are choosing some alternatives like YouTube, Netflix or something like that. You can also observe that many creators on YouTube do more views than on TV.
1. Not really, I sometimes watch the evening news, but pretty much everything I want to know or watch I get from the internet and watch it on a monitor. I sometimes use my chromecast to stream series from Netflix or Youtube so I'd say, I use TV for a few hours a week?
2. In the current shape and form of television i think it has a rightful place in our everyday lives, especially since in the last few years TVs became basically big monitors allowing them to be used either for games, cinema quality video display or pretty much everything you could want depending on the model. Overall I'd say they're still overall less popular than what it was like a few years, but they are still relevant.
3. I don't think it will disappear and it is already different than it was not so long ago. I think it's only natural it will evolve with time and adapt to the circumstances of everyday life. In my opinion, in the near future, all of the displays we will use on a day-to-day basis will be universalized
@SaloniNayi Unfortunately, I have to agree with you that these days there is more trashy shows, especially on public television. It is such a pity, because I remember that when I was a child there were so many good movies on TV that sometimes I couldn't decide which I'd prefer to watch.
1) I don't watch much TV, honestly I don't even have a TV at home. I find everything I need on the internet.

2) Definitely, I even think it is very likely in the near future. Maybe TV will not disappear completely but it is possible that it will not be in the form as we know it.

3) As I wrote above I think it is highly probable that TV will become something completely different than we currently think and it is possible that it will significantly lose popularity in the coming years.
@Piotr Jarzyński I also "watch" TV only while I am doing some domestic activities like cleaning or cooking, but recently I've noticed that nowadays there is more ads than movies or programmes.

It's not hard for me to imagine it. I don't use TV myself at all and among my friends I don't know anyone who spends time in front of TV.

3.What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

It seems to me that television will not disappear, but at some point, it will undergo a certain transformation so as to become similar to internet portals.
1. I used to watch it when I was eating breakfast/dinner. But since I moved out and I'm leaving alone I don't have a TV. But if YouTube and Netflix can be counted as watching TV I think that it's about 1-2 hours per day.
2. Yes. Currently, there is nothing interesting for me to watch. In the past, there were some good documentaries on Discovery Channel but now this station has only dumb reality shows. I can find almost everything I want on the Internet. I won't miss TV.
3. I don't think that it will disappear. Older people still watch it a lot. Maybe TV stations will switch to internet broadcasting someday. I guess it will be cheaper not to maintain the broadcast stations.

Answering your questions

I used to watch TV, but for now, I do it very rarely, about 30 minutes per week maybe or even less. A few years ago in my opinion there were plenty of valuable programs on TV which were interesting to me, but most of them are not transmitted anymore, so I switched to YouTube platform.

Of cource I can, in my opinion in the nearest future, like in the next 30 years TV is going to become obsolete and not used anymore in favor of internet streaming services.
@Magdalena Kasprzak I agree that television probably won't disappear completely. We can already see how television and the programmes have changed during last few years and it's going to change. I know some people of our age who enjoy watching all these reality shows, which help them to relax.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?

When I’m at my parent’s home I’m rarely watching TV. Mostly I’m using Netflix on my TV to watch something (but can we consider watching Netflix as a TV?) When I used to live in Warsaw I haven’t even thought about getting a TV. I don’t like ads on TV and the schedule of the movie. I like to watch what I want!

2. Can you imagine a world without television?

Yes! Nowadays a TV seems to be just a big screen. I believe that the Internet will dominate TV shortly! We just need 50 more years. Nowadays TV is watched mostly by older people because they are used to it. My generation will be more willing to use streaming platforms like Netflix or HBO GO.
3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
As I mentioned before, television is outdated.
@olga jaroń I agree that breakfast shows and reality shows aren't the most sophisticated form of programmes but still there are a lot of people who watch them. In my opinion they are mostly directed to people who are spending their days at home or for those who wants to watch something which does not require effort.

1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
I'm not watching TV for 5 years, since I moved out from my parents. I don't miss it. YouTube, Netflix and information portals substitutes me the television. Additionally I don't like to watch things to find out something, for example news, weather.

2. Can you imagine world without television?
Yes, through the last 8 years people were being convinced step by step to the internet as source of entertainment and news.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I don't have information about television in other places then Poland. Polish Public Television is now used mostly as Government's Tube, on the other hand public commercial stations are doing the opposite. All of this is spiced up by a load of advertisement, giving us movies and series with Internet Explorer speed. I think that television as the idea deserve to disappear, since more and more people have found better solution.
1. I don't watch TV at all. I think that fewer and fewer young people like watching TV, because with today's technologies we have Netflix or HBO GO, which is much more convenient to use than regular television. We are able to watch each movie without unnecessary advertising, which is a great convenience. Personally, I don't even have a TV at home.
2. I am able to imagine a world without TV, but not without computers. I think that we can read or watch whatever we need in internet, so the world without TV would not be a problem for me.
3. I think there is a good chance that television will disappear in a dozen or so years, because more and more young people do not use television at all. We live in the age of the internet, and it will remain so. Television will not be needed by anyone.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
I try to watch TV as little as possible. Unfortunately, some TV stations spread propaganda information and we must try to avoid such programs or learn to separate truth from lies. As a result, if I watch TV, there are sports events such as football or breakfast programs. Besides, I sometimes watch movies on the internet on tv. The large screen provides a viewing comfort greater than a laptop screen.

2. Can you imagine world without television?
I can imagine a world without tv and in my opinion it would be a much better world than it is today. Many people, instead of wasting their time watching worthless materials, would start with their development or simply spend this time with their friends.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I think that TV will be slowly replaced by Internet media which is more easily accessible and a wider spectrum of information is available. Tv as a physical device will exist for a long time, but mainly for watching movies, for example on Netflix. TV are constantly being developed into more and more technologically advanced matrices. TV will exist, but usage will change.
@Daniel Trzaskoma It is very interesting that you mentioned sport programmes. It is indeed one of the few reasons why people still have television in their houses. I know that the quality of streamings still aren't that good to replace a live transmission on TV.
Bartosz Gołda said…
1.Yes, I watch TV. Well, it has never played a big role in my everyday routine. I watch it as I get dressed up, do my homework or work. It is more like a background for me, not a thing that I put a lot of attention to. If I had to tell what is the approximate amount of hours I spend watching TV I would probably say 1 to 2 hours a day. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
2. Of course I do. I could easily live without it. Yes, it is a small part of my everyday life but it is nothing so important. However, I think that some people would have a completely different opinion about it. They watch it and treat it as a source of information, a tool to relax themselves after work.
3.Frankly, I don’t think that would happen so soon. Maybe it is a future perspective, maybe everything will be on the internet. However, it requires the generation change, for some people tv is everything they have ever known and figured out. And for some of them, for example, for the elderly, it is a ‘mount everest’ of their technical possibilities. I can imagine it happens but even for some young people tv is an uncomparable source of entertainment.
@Michał Gawron A lot of people think and say that television is stupid and it is full of negative information, but on the other hand don't you think that these news are a little bit more selected that those which can we find in Internet? Because there is another problem with fake news, which are everywhere on Internet.
@ s16427 I remember that when I was a child I wasn't so annoyed by TV advertisements. It was something normal, but now, thanks to Netflix and other streaming platforms, there is a possibility to watch movies without it, which saves a lot of time and also you can focus more on the thing you watch.

1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
No. And when I was younger I was not also a fan of it.

2.Can you imagine world without television?
Yes, easily. My life does not contain TV context at all.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
See, things that TV is missing are “online”, “choices” and “audience oriented”. So I personally think the battle between internet and TV is already lost, and TV will eventually die.
@Paweł Bluszcz s20080 As you said, the future of the television depends from the money. The biggest service broadcasters are very lucrative and their owners will do everything to maintain its popularity.
@Przemysław Witek You've mentioned some YouTube creators. A few months ago I've heard about some TV show with some influencers from YouTube and TikTok. It is interesting because it means that even big TV companies are trying to connect somehow both these worlds.

1.Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?

Once I moved out from my parents, which was a couple of years ago, I've never watched TV again. I just simply don't own a television at my place and I don't really miss it. There as some tv shows which I liked but they are now distributed online - like "kuba wojewódzki" or "usterka", so I watch them on my laptop.
2. Can you imagine a world without television?

My world? Yes. The world as the whole - probably not. For some, that's the only source of information, especially now when the traditional press is almost dead and elder people rarely use the internet. It's important to have an easily accessible source of information for everyone. I would consider TV is currently more accessible than the internet.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?

I'm sure it will be different, we can see it already with the raise of services like ipla or player.pl. Do we still consider it's a television or we call it differently? It airs the same thing that is on TV :) In its traditional form, I believe it will diminish every year, but I doubt our generation will experience its death. It's rooted in our culture and death will be very slow.
@Oskar Kacprzak I think this is one of the most significant causes why young people in Poland don't want to watch news in TV. We are aware of how much it is manipulated by government and literally everything is somehow connected with politics.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?

I watch cable TV from time to time when I really have no idea what would I want to watch but I need some distraction for a moment. I don't think I spend much time watching because often I get too frustrated with commercials, so I even if I find something that would interest me, I often end up playing the same show from a streaming platform. I understand that commercials are a vital part of cable TV, but since you're already paying for the service, maybe there shouldn't be so many commercials?

2. Can you imagine a world without television?
One could think that the world where there is no television would be somewhat better because people would spend more time focusing on different, more productive things. However, as much as watching the television now seem only like a waste of time, the development of TV has made a massive influence on our culture and the way we view the world. Before the popularisation of owning the TV, the moving image was only seen at cinemas. I think because of that popularization we became more used to this form of receiving information, through watching videos rather than reading. Nowadays, whenever there is training on important subjects such as first aid, we see it mostly as a video clip and not as written directions. In my opinion, this also led to fast popularization of smartphones, as they allow us to view more graphics than they predecessors.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I don't think that TV as a device will disappear quickly from our lives. We tend to enjoy screenings on large displays, and it is also often used as a display for computers or consoles. The cable or satellite TV, on the other hand, like many of my colleagues, said before me, I agree that this concept is outdated. It seems like a thing that would be cultivated for older generations, which are used to this form of receiving media. More and more people tend to steer away from watching TV, because of its time consumption. Nowadays, people prefer to pay a little bit more, just to avoid watching annoying and repetitive commercials in the middle of a movie.
@Adrian Kamiński I wish people would spend more time on their personal development. Unfortunately I think that the disappearance won't help in this case ;)

I used to have a TV in my room at my parents house, so when I still lived with them, I would always have some dumb time wasters on to have some kind of background noise when studying or doing basically anything.
Now, I use my TV for streaming or playing games, I also watch news from time to time.
I can definitely imagine my life without TV, but I don’t think that it’s going to disappear in the nearest future. More and more young people give up on watching TV and switch to streaming services, but to be honest I cannot imagine my grandmother or any other person her age, pairing her credit card (which she doesn’t own) with her newly created Netflix account. I can safely say that losing her precious TV would be the worst possible thing she can think of right now.. And I’m pretty sure the same goes for most older people, as usually they don’t feel like trying something new or just different - which is totally understandable to me.
So I guess the answer to your question is that it will just somehow evolve to fit more people’s needs.

1. I don’t watch TV but I watch a lot of shows in the Internet. I am trying to spend not to much time just watching Netflix.

2. I think it’s possible but it will take a lot of time. The idea of TV as means of communication is really good, it means it will not be completely lost.

3.It’s likely it will be different. More flexible, dynamic, more suitable for modern people and their needs.

1.Unfortunately, there are not many programs on public television where you can see something interesting. Of course, there are exceptions, but in most of them you will see time-killers and propaganda. To see something more interesting you need to purchase a package of other television programs.

2.Television has had a big impact on the current development and availability of information for the past several decades, but now the Internet has become the undisputed winner of this duel. Currently, in my opinion, television is of no importance to me, but I know that for older people it still has a lot of importance. For many older people it is the only access to information and the opportunity to see what the world looks like in a different place. I think that if older people were able to navigate the internet, they too would cut down on their TV viewing.

3.In my opinion, classic television will die over time. I think this is related to people who were brought up in the times of television. On the other hand, some people call platforms such as Netflix television.

I don’t watch TV, coz at least I don’t have it, regular monitor for PC and projector replaces TV fully. But watching Netflix taking at least an hour for evening time before sleeping.
For me it’s already a world without TV and I can easily imagine that, but when I think about my grandma and grandpa I cant tell the same, they watch it for some news, series, and films, so for them it's kind an attraction which they cant replace.
I think it will go with us for 20 years at least, maybe they will move to the internet but it should be smooth, to keep their auditory with them.
1. Do you watch TV? If yes, how much time do you spend watching it?
By watching TV if you mean like watching TV channels that I don't watch. But I do use TVs like devices to watching Netflix or play video games. and depending on how much time I have it can even be 3 hours.

2. Can you imagine a world without television?
I have never imagined a world without television but without it, we can survive plus we have many replacements for television, like monitors, projectors, computers, phones, and more.

3. What is your opinion on this subject. Do you think that TV is likely to disappear soon or just will be different?
I think TV still have a place in our like and it is not going to disappear sooner because we use it for many things and the companies that manufacture these devices always have more and more innovation that makes us want to have those devices. I am one of the people who believe that television will be more and more different from the one which was used in 1925 or 1990 but televisions are still here for some time.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
