Week 11 [18.01.21-24.01.21] Why people think they can't draw?

Why people think they can't draw?

As an absolutely the worst painter around, I've been intrigued with the very idea contained in this video. What if the problem of my "ugly drawing" isn't something that I have to live with, but something I can change? I actually did the video paintings (as instructed) and I'm pretty amazed with the result.

Questions:

-Can you draw nicely? Did you learn how to paint by yourself or joined classes?
-What do you think about this video? Does this method look reasonable?
-Did you try to paint as the speaker said so? How did it looked in the end? If not, what do you think would be better for bad painters?

Comments

I think I can say that I can draw a little... I study graphic design so my drawing skills were the basis of my admission to PJATK. However, I wouldn’t call myself great at drawing, but I am also not the worst. I have been drawing for my whole life. I attended some art classes when I was younger, but I didn’t really like it. I just do not like it when someone tells me what to do, I prefered to stay at home and draw whatever I wanted to draw. I think that my skills come the most from practicing it myself, rather than from some classes or courses.

When it comes to the video my feelings are a little mixed. I agree with the statement that people feel like they can’t draw, but if you show them how to do it it turns out that they actually can. HOWEVER, there is a difference between drawing and redrawing. It is easy to show people where to draw a line so it looks good. However, try telling them to do it by themselves - this is where it turns out that they can not draw. Drawing is not only about redrawing the lines, but about being able to imagine yourself where to put them. I think that the guy in the video showed people that it is possible to make a nice drawing with a few easy lines. He also showed them that they are able to redraw such lines. But did he show them that they can draw? I don’t think so.

I didn’t try to draw as the speaker showed it, as I said - I woldn’t call it drawing and for me there is nothing special in redrawing someone’s lines. I think that for bad artists it is the best to practice. Not to redraw a few easy lines, but to put a bottle in front of you and try to draw it yourself, with your own style. Just look at anything and try to draw it in different styles. After some time you will see what type of drawing brings you the most joy, what looks the best and what you can actually do and what is worth practicing. Of course, If you want you can keep redrawing a few easy lines like it was shown in the video, but it doesn’t mean you can draw. It means that you can put lines where someone told you to put them.

Interesting view on drawing/redrawing. After reading your comment I've tried to draw something new, using whatever I learned in that video. And as you would expect, I got nothing. I'm gonna keep that in mind that showing how to draw is drasticly different than showing what to draw :).

I consider myself as quite good draughtperson. I love doing it. Actually it is one of the reason why I am on artistic studies. I used to take part in painting/drawing classes in grade school. I had a very nice teacher, as I may call her, but the main job she was doing was encouraging me to express myself as well as I could. I was taking part in a lot of children art contests. It was fun, but also something what increased my abilities and approach doing it.

Haha, I think it proves that every drawing has their own technic. For sure this man brought so much fun for a lot of people. Its valuable for his method. For sure there are some tips for everyone which are easy to learn and follow to create nice drawings. And the speaker proved it.

I was drawing with him and my peace looked very similar to his. But I was always a good imitator.

I agree, it was pretty fun to draw something, that didn't look half bad :). I guess his technique could be used in different drawings. I just wonder now if there's more learning than imitating in this video.
1. Can you draw nicely? Did you learn how to paint by yourself or joined classes?

I think that I'm pretty okay. Of course not as good as I aspire to be, but it's always something! I learned it by myself, so I have some problems with perspective and composition because I've never learned any basics (at least not from the proper classes). But I do it as a hobby, so I don't have that much time to focus on polishing my skills. I draw anime characters because I really love this kind of art style!

2. What do you think about this video? Does this method look reasonable?

This method looks fun for people who can't draw at all. He showed them simple shapes and how to create from them a cartoon character. It seems that everyone had fun with it, and I thing that enjoying drawing is the most important aspect of it.

3. Did you try to paint as the speaker said so? How did it looked in the end? If not, what do you think would be better for bad painters?

I haven't drawn with him, but I expect that it would end up really similar to his work, because he used really simple lines, that everyone can draw. Trying to copy someone else's drawing is a really good practice at the beginning, but if you want to learn how to draw properly, you shouldn't do it that much. Especially that sometimes copying too much and publishing your works might become just stealing someone else's work.
-Can you draw nicely? Did you learn how to paint by yourself or joined classes?
No I can't draw nicely. My drawing is like kids art. I can draw something like flower or house.
I am more into coloring pictures, I like to it more.

-What do you think about this video? Does this method look reasonable?
I have watched this video before, it might seem like it is very easy and everyone can do it. I have tried his method because I am not into drawing. However if someone is interested for sure I would advise them this video.

-Did you try to paint as the speaker said so? How did it looked in the end? If not, what do you think would be better for bad painters?
No I haven't tried, but I think everyone can draw like he does using presented technique.
As for me it might be a very good for those who just starting to draw

I don’t think I draw very good or nice or realistic at all. All my drawings are very childish, but I really enjoy this style. A few of my favorite painters are Edward Dwurnik and Nikifor Krynicki who were painting in this very abstract, not realistic way. And I absolutely love it!

This method is very nice and most importantly encouraging to people who think that they can’t draw. I really like how, the man who was talking, was guiding us through every step of a drawing and for the whole time was sure that we will do it right.

I was drawing with him as he told me to do and it actually turned out fine. Of course, it didn’t look identical, but I like that it is not exactly the same.

@Kinga Kwiatkowska

Good point, that fun is most important thing in painting. Thats so cool you can draw anime characters, It's so beyond my skills I can barely relate to that. Also, I agree that copying someone elses drawing isn't really learning how to draw.

I can definetly relate to lack of drawing skills. About coloring, do you color much? And where do you find coloring pictures? Just internet or you buy books to color?

Unfortunately, I can't draw nicely at the moment. In the past, I drew a lot and I liked it a lot, but for a lack of time I had to give it up. Maybe in the future and will try to refresh my skills.

2. What do you think about this video? Does this method look reasonable?

I don't think this is a way to learn drawing. It's just repeating someone else's movements.

3. Did you try to paint as the speaker said so? How did it looked in the end? If not, what do you think would be better for bad painters?

I didn't repeat his movements, but it seems to me that I would have achieved the same effect without any problems.
1. I think that I can draw okay-ish when I have references of the subject that I'm drawing. But still, I don't find my drawings as good as posting them online.
2. It's a nice method for people who don't feel comfortable at drawing or don't believe in their skills. Being happy with the end result is very valuable.
3. I haven't drawn with him. I can guess that the results would be similar to his drawing because there were simple sketches. Copying something or doing it step by step as shown in a tutorial can give surprisingly good results.

1.I believe the word “nicely” isn’t a good choice regarding drawing. I really don’t like the tradition to describe drawing or paintings as beautiful. They can represent so many things. Also, there are so many drawing styles, which cannot be described as nice, lovely, pretty and so on.
I put a lot of my emotions even in study drawings and I can’t control that. That’s why I am not able to answer this question. Nevertheless, I love style and my drawings.
I used to take private lessons to create a portfolio for my SNM PJATK application.

2. There is always something frustrating and sad about redrawing. Moreover, creating an illusion of having a skill seems like nonsense.

3. What is „bad painters”? There isn’t any magic in drawing, it’s just a normal skill which everyone can learn. People just have to accept that learning takes time

1.Yes, I can draw and I connected my life with drawing and design, so I was lucky in this regard. I graduated from a university related to academic art. and graphic design.

2. I think this is a great video as it gives people the opportunity and inspiration to start drawing, even if they have never tried it before.

3. I have already seen this video once, and repeated its tasks. It was a lot of fun and I loved it.

I haven’t met anyone who is worse at drawing than me. Honestly I don’t like drawing anyway, so I never tried to be better .

2. What do you think about this video? Does this method look reasonable?

I think that the method showed in the video may be good for people who don’t know how to draw, but want to start doing it anyway. However, I am not one of these people so it wasn’t interesting for me. But that’s because I’m not the target of this video, not because something is wrong with it.

3. Did you try to paint as the speaker said so? How did it looked in the end? If not, what do you think would be better for bad painters?

I didn’t try it and I have no idea what would be better.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr
