Week 11 [18.01.21-24.01.21] Microbiology. How the fly is so agile.

I would like you to share your thoughts on microbiology. For the purpose of starting a conversion I would like you first to watch this short video.
If you enjoyed it, I encourage you to watch Apple's take on this kind of shows. "Tiny World" has the best footage of macro animals ever.
Link to the show: Tiny World.

Questions:

1. Do you like shows about nature? What aspect of nature interests you the most?
2. Do you feel empathy to the smallest creatures like insects? Or do you slap bugs with no remorse?
3. Seems like Demodex mites live on everyones face. How does that make you feel?

1. Do you like shows about nature? What aspect of nature interests you the most?
I like them, especially when Krystyna Czubówna is the reader. I love to turn on the TV, set it on YouTube's one of those 4K videos about animals or landscapes, and just let it play in the background while I do some stuff around the house. The most interesting for me is the different landscapes in the different parts of the world.

2. Do you feel empathy for the smallest creatures like insects? Or do you slap bugs with no remorse?
Depends on the type of insect. If it's a fly or a mosquito, I don't think they are as productive as bees, so I just kill them if they bother me. If it's a bee, I let it fly out of the house, and if it's outside, I let it live and mind its own business. The same goes for spiders, as they prey on flies and mosquitoes, and, as you can probably tell by now, I don't like flies and mosquitoes very much.

3. Seems like Demodex mites live on everyone's face. How does that make you feel?
It doesn't bother me at all. I am aware that anything can happen during sleep. I mean, eating a bug or something, haha. Besides, people in the US can live with cockroaches in their homes, so why should I be bothered by the tiniest of bugs I can't even see?

Paweł Saniewski, respecting spiders is a right thing, my friend :). But thanks God we don't live in Australia.

1.Yes, I like watching nature documentaries. I definitely watched more when I was a kid. The most interesting element is showing the behavior of animals.
2.Empathy is too big a word. I try not to hurt animals if I don't have to, even the smallest ones. If he does not bother me in my life and does not pose a threat, I try to release him.
3.I think it is a natural thing and it does not evoke any feelings in me.

Sure, Nature at all is a very interesting topic for me. Recently I have watched a national geographic series about the deep sea creatures.

2. Do you feel empathy to the smallest creatures like insects? Or do you slap bugs with no remorse?

I don't feel empathy, but I don't enjoy killing them. I prefer to carefully remove them from my property. :)

3. Seems like Demodex mites live on everyones face. How does that make you feel?

I am a bit surprised, but if they live on everyone's faces then it's
not a big deal.
1. I loved nature shows since I was a kid. Every night I would firstly watch some cartoons and then, when the canal ended, I would switch to Animal Planet or Discovery and watch until I pass out :D I like all kinds of animal videos, but I guess, my favourites are about mammals that explain their behaviour and skills. Much like in this video but I would rather watch a wolf cub and not a fly.

2. I couldn't watch this poor fly without halteres, I don't care if its a fly, lion or human, cruelty is cruelty. I don't even kill mosquitoes because whats their crime, wanting to life and feed? Should we end a life because of ... itching? The only bugs I kill are ticks, they messed up with a wrong dog and its human!

3. Well, I would rather not think about it too much as it creeps me out a little. However, I would not freak out over it. From what I understand they are not too harmful. There are worse creatures to be a home of. Let's take a tapeworm or giant roundworm for example. They can lead to serious consequences, and if they are big enough they can even kill its host. THAT'S creepy. We are home to many creatures, some of which we couldn't live without. There are bacteria in your stomach right now, helping you digest your food. The realisation of this fact may be strange but that's just how things are.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Extreme winter sports for thrill seekers

Nowadays many people are looking for alternative winter sports other than normal skiing or snowboarding. Dangerous sports and activities certainly give incredible adrenaline and new experiences. As a result, these new forms of physical activity have more and more fans.  Below are some examples of strange new winter sports. Speed Flying or Speed Riding is a extreme winter sport which is a combination of paragliding and skiing. While skiing, you can jump up when conditions get rough and then land again when you  choose so. You personally can choose how much flying vs. skiing you’d like to do. It’s a fantastic sport that is attractive for paragliders and skiers alike. Of course it is very dangerous. In 2014 a few people died. The most accidents are due to lack of experience and taking too high risk. If you are interested, there are fine video from Norway : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Ero7J4aMg ...

Week 3 [ 21-27.10.19] Memory Capacity of the Human Brain

What Is the Memory Capacity of the Human Brain? In the age of information technology, we are used to the fact that any information should occupy a certain amount of memory in storage. And since memories are information, then sooner or later they must fill the amount of memory in a person’s head. But the human brain is not a hard drive where you can write information in free blocks. Source: https://revth.files.wordpress.com/2018/05/battle-for-the-mind.jpg Neurons communication The process of "recording" information in the brain occurs through the emergence of connections between neurons and the creation of neural networks. Each time, recalling a past event, we activate the neural connections associated with it. We can say that having a finite number of neurons (according to researches it is about 100 billion cell nuclei) a finite number of connections can be created inside the brain. This, in turn, might me...
