Condition of Slums in India
India is one of the fastest developing countries with many metropolitan cities(e.g. Delhi,Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, etc..).
The challenges faced by individuals residing in India's urban areas have become a major concern for the government. In many urban areas, slums are considered to be the biggest problem; in particular, problems related to insufficient unhygienic sanitation and drinking water facilities.
People migrating from the villages, attracted by the glamour of town life ;come to the town with no roof over their heads,no habitation to keep them indoor. This forces incoming migrants, who make up the majority of the population of the city, to seek housing in informal settlements with extremely poor living conditions in low-cost, poorly designed shanties and tenements.
I have found a short video for you about one of the slum in Mumbai, It will take only 2 minutes must watch:

Questions:
1) What happens to smallholder farmers who take out micro loans from banks and than the crop fails?
2) Where do the urban poor live?
3) What infrastructure and services exist in slums and squatter developments?
Comments
According to the video, in slums. It's mix of poorly built cement blocks and metal sheets and wood. It's the poorest place to live. Especially interesting is fact, that beside borderline poverty, places like this produce incredible amounts of stuff, that is later sold to EU or USA.
As seen on video, slums are home for many businesses. For example (as seen on video), pottery, knitting, all kinds of cloth processing. Unfortunately, due to poor conditions, people aren't paind nearly enough for their work.
2. They live in horrible conditions. Sometimes under ordinary cardboard, little shanty made of garbage. Hygiene is impossible in there. No privacy. No places for physiologic needs. No safety. Stewing everyone next to each other. Dust, dirt and diseases everywhere.
3. As was showed in video, it was some handmade services, like pottery. Exploitation of those people is huge. We aren’t even aware of how many things they are making for us, people living in Europe or North America. They work for almost nothing, when we buy for a lot, and industries makes income. Like clothing industry for instance. It’s sad.
