Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] Car Survival Race

Dear friends,

I would like to tell you about myself and my hometown.  I was born and lived for many years of my life in a beautiful town called Alexandria. This town is in the Kirovograd region, Ukraine. My hometown is small, it has only one hundred thousand people. The town has very little entertainment, there is nothing to do. Such a problem arose because its inhabitant is poor. People have no money to spend it. Growing up there was a problem for me as I did not know what to do in my free time. Fortunately, in my town there were many sport clubs. Wrestling, karate, boxing, athletics, cycling etc. But all those sports were not interesting for me.  I was more interested in cars. It turned out that in Alexandria there is another sport. A little searching and, I found a rally, a car survival race and karting.

So, when my age allowed me to drive, I got behind the wheel. It was a broken car that looked very bad but drove very well. It was interesting and exciting. I could drive as I wanted. It was important not to break the car and finish the race. And best of all to finish first. The first time I did it badly. Because my rivals were stronger than me, more experienced. They have long been engaged in this sport. After some time, I realized that this sport is for me.

Still, how to participate in this sport? It's simple. You need some car. This car must drive. Otherwise you will not be able to drive on a highway. You need to register it. And go! Good cars are light cars. There is a lot of dirt on tracks and there is a high probability that you will remain in a pit. Technical requirements for cars participating in sports competitions set in this position are mandatory for the participants of the competition; without their performance the participant cannot be allowed to participate in competitions. Participants cars: Serial cars whose length is in the range from 3.9 meters to 4.4 meters (the length of a production car from the front bumper to the rear bumper) wheel formula 4/2. The external shape and dimensions of the body should be maintained by the presence of factory panels, wings and other details. Use of any serial automobile tires, except for studded, is allowed. It is forbidden to use chains, tracks, other anti-skid means and putting any materials on tires.

This sport is very popular in our town. Many participants come from other towns. Moreover, Alexandria is entering the world arena with motocross. We race very often, every month - the usual. Once a year there is a championship. Fans come from other cities, from all Ukraine. This is an exciting sight! This is amazing! Extreme sport! This sport is gaining popularity.

Comments

I'm not interested in the car racing, so I would not like to participate in something like this. I've never heard about this kind of sport in my area, but it's probably due to lack of interest on my sight. I've nerver watched it neither. I think it might be dangerous, but some people really like adrenaline and doing dangerous things, so I'm okay with it!

I'm not really interested in this type of car racing but I enjoyed watching death race what really came across my mind reading your article. I don't want to participate in this type of sport. I don't think we have similar sport in Poland because I have never heard about something like that taking place in here. I have never watched this sport and this is my first contant with it. I saw one thing quite similar in movie Fast and fuious 3 I think but it was not racetrack but a circle where people were just driving at each other and the last car wins. Yes I find it really dangerous and I would never sit in a car goin in this type of race. They can blow up any second when someone drives at them with top speed ( and as I saw from the pictures I see that they are already heavely damaged ).
1. Would you like to participate in something like this?
I would like to take part in such competitions, but before that I would have to prepare the vehicle myself and secure it enough so that I could feel it safe in it.

2. Do you have a similar sport in the country / city?
In our country we do not have such a sport, however, there are such competitions organized several times a year :)

3. Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?
Yes, if there are any broadcasts, I watch. Why? Hard to say. However, every time I try to look at the constructions that are created. Capturing these elements has allowed me often to use the solutions and ideas applied in many of my projects.

4. Do you find it dangerous?
Yes, it is a dangerous sport, but as in any sport - without certain rules, even the simplest running will be dangerous for human life and health.
No, i don't want to take part in something like this. It's hilarious i would say and it brings no impact at all. Just a waste of time. What about similar sport in the country/city where i live - i don't know, maybe yes, maybe no, i have never been interested in it. Need to check it out. I have never watched this sport and as i mentioned i don't like it because it dangerous and it is not giving any impact, just a waste of time.

Yes, there are plenty of them here:

Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?
Yeah, I really wish to participate in this wreckage and become this race car driver

Do you find it dangerous?
No, cars are tuned up. They have special steel pipe cage inside, drivers wear helmets, special safety belts and more

I would like to try taking part in that kind of competition. I've seen it once live and it was really interesting experience. There is some kind of the whole subculture of people engaged in these races.

Do you have a similar sport in the country / city?
Yes, we have a few competitions connected with racing near dead cars in Poland - it's named "Wrak Race" here. The nearest one is Mazowiecki Wrak Race near Warsaw.

Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?
As I said in the first answer, I've been on the competition personally and I liked the atmosphere there. It was fun to watch all that people preparing their "cars" and having fun trying to survive to the finish line.

Do you find it dangerous?
It could be dangerous if you don't prepare yourself and your car properly. Safety is on the first place so you should have a steel cage, good seatbelts, helmet and some front window protection.
Yes. I would definitely like to take part in something like that. This sport seems incredibly dangerous. But that's why I would like to take part in it. Especially that he is passionate about motorization. You can actually do damage, but in these cars there are probably some safety cages.
I think I would like to go to such an event, but I do not know if it is somewhere around Warsaw. Although even if it was a piece from me, maybe I would go.
It sounds pretty good, it would be organized in Poland, I was happy to take part in it. What I searched the internet for does not have it in Poland
detriment. Have I ever seen this sport? No, if you have link to stream, I will see it with pleasure
I think that this sport is very dangerous and you need to protect your car well against possible accidents.
In fact, on the racetrack, everything happens in the frames of reasonable. In practice, there was still no such situation that a car exploded. It usually goes very well. Maximum, this is what the car can break down and stop driving =) Of course, ambulance cars and fire trucks are on duty.
Great, thanks for the links provided, now I have a goal =) I hope to gather my thoughts to participate in this again.
I am not a good driver, thus i would not like to participate in such race, even though it looks superfun, but because of lack of skill i am more concerned about my life =3. I never knew that we had something like that in Ukraine, that makes me a bit happier about my country. I have seen shows like that in some american tv and films, for some time i used to think that it is fiction. I think thatit is not as dangerous for someone who knows what he is doing, but for everyone else it can be pretty dangerous.
I'm not a fan of motorsport, so I'm not interested in racing. I've never heard of anything like it in Poland, but from what I see in the comments the Caporegime (Peter Clemenza) provided some links to similar things. I've never watched such a race and I don't think I would ever want to take part in but who knows. I think all motorsports are dangerous, so this one doesn't seem to be the exception.

I am a petrolhead so any type of competition that requires a car is a good fun for me. In contrast to other motorsports, this one doesn’t require huge amount of money and sponsors’ back-up when needed

Do you have a similar sport in the country / city?

No, I haven’t heard about it in Poland but I know that there is something similar in USA – it’s called Demolition Derby where cars are placed in a huge circle pit and they hit each other in a way that doesn’t harm your car very much but it does to competitor’s car. Last one to survive is the winner.

Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?

I watched once or twice Demolition Derby on the internet, it was fun to watch.

Do you find it dangerous?

Yes, it can be dangerous but I really would like to try it no matter the consequences 😉

Yes, I would like to try it. I think it would be definitely an interesting experience.

No, I have never. But it looks fun, so maybe in the future I would give it a try.

I think this sport is not dangerous as it may seem to look. If you will obey the rules, I don’t think anything dangerous would happen to you.

I think that being able to participate in such race would be very cool opportunity to do something interesting in my life. I think that if I had a appropriate car and a possibility to do it I would. I don’t know if there is similar sport in Poland or Warsaw because I actually never was curious in it but probably there is. I am actually not that much interested in cars, but I honestly love driving them. So, race like this would be perfect for me I think. Unfortunately, I have never watched it but now after your presentation I might start. I think this sport can totally be dangerous but not more then others. Every sport if you are doing it professionally is dangerous.
1. Would you like to participate in something like this?

I would like to watch it 100%, but I am not sure, that I want to participate in it. I mean, I don't like racing at all, but without trying I cannot say it.

2. Do you have a similar sport in the country / city?

I never heard that we have something similar in my city. I know, that there are some night racings or simple racing but never heard about this kind of sport.

3. Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?

No, I haven't watched it, because I never heard about this sport. However, I definitely want to watch this sport.

4. Do you find it dangerous?

Maybe a little bit. But I think, most of the people, who participate in it are professionals, so they know what to do.
No I don't. I don't like events like this, I dont think is smart way to spend your time but I am not judging !
I haven't heard about any events of this type in my contry, probably I am not curious enough to search them and I haven't watch sport like this ever. I am not into it and it would be borring for me i guess.
Well, it looks dangerous for sure, I don't know anything about safety regulations but I belive there are plenty. i think it is dangerous as every other moto sport.
I will answer in this way, I know this type of competition and sometimes I thought about taking part in it. I'm drifting training and preparing for a competition, but I love the car sculptures make them such harm. :( Unless I got a multiplayer car, I would not have any resistance. :) And yes, it's dangerous and I like it. :)

Have you ever watched this sport? You like this?

don't really, i only read some articles about it and videos from WEB, that is my pocket of experience with this sport :D

Do you find it dangerous?

Yea I think its very dangerous, its easy to get injure or brain shock or other illnesses connected with Brain and brokes of arms and legs.
Yes, I would like to participate in such an event but only from a spectators point of view. I've never seen anything like that. I don't think such races are organised in Warsaw or anywhere in Poland. Seems mad and crazy dangerous but I bet it would be a blast to watch.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
