Week 11 [11.06-17.06.2018] Dog-Robot

Nowadays, technology is developing incredibly fast. We are witnesses of amazing things. One of them is definitely robots. Watch this short video below, in which there is a robot dog.

1. What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?
2. Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?
3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?

I have no doubts that such robots will soon appear on streets of cities. Companies like Boston Dynamics have already shown us multiple times that our current state of technological progress allow to create complex robots that are capable of performing tasks that most humans cannot. Of course, most of those robots are just prototypes but with all advancements we make every day in that branch of technology, the idea of first commercial robots t that are actually useful doesn't sound like something out of sci-fi movie.
I prefer a living dog to a machine that looks like a dog, acts like a dog but is not an actual dog.
Truly saying, I don't know. It depends on use case scenario and if it can meet my requirements.

I belive that even with all the advanced AI ,Robot dogs are not close to real pets.
I am not sure what the future holds but the real advantage of having pets is the connection you both form with each other.
The advantage of a robot pet is you can just put it in a shelf, disconnect it ,But.....what about a wagging tail when you get back to home, a lick in the face, all the love emotions?
I don't prefer robot as real Dog.
Having this robot at home is fun, yes, I'd love to have one of these robots at home.
Without any hesitation i would say that fully customized robots would be a huge step forward in the future. Today there are a lot of tests are made and our humanity is waiting for the day when it will be closer to us. As we are speaking about today's routine, i would rather prefer normal dog. I'm not a fan of technology, that is not stable for 100%. So, in my opinion, all the robots need more time to be perfect.

To be honest I feel that such robot will be normal in near future and for me it’s something like the beginning of the end of the world and I don’t like this vision. As I’ve said I’d rather prefer to have a normal dog rather than robot one. As for now I’m not convinced to robots and the only one robot I’d like to have at my home would be the vacuum robot 😉

I prefer real dogs, but unfortunately I am allergic to them. Nevertheless I don't think that techno-dogs could ever replace a living creature.
That being said, I think that sooner or later, we will be able to simulate dog's brain by the computer.

1. What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?
I think robots soon can replace people on low-qualified jobs, in high-risk sector, like military operations, nuclear stations and other.

2. Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?
It's weird question, because purpose of the spot is to be universal manipulator, not a pet.

3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?
For now it can be a coolest toy. I think more sense to have such robots to help people with disabilities, not regular people.

1. What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?
I personally think that AI-driven dog-like and human-like cyborgs are quite dangerous. There were enough science fiction movies to show that after crossing a line in AI development, the cyborgs may one day take control. So I would be very careful with this kind of technology, even if it only concerns "dogs".

2. Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?
I'd rather have a normal dog. I think there is enough technology around us and we rather need a technological detox, than more technology in our lives. Besides, real dogs have natural inborn features, such as loyalty and joy, that mechanical dogs can't copy.

3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?
Not really. I think I would rather be able to watch them outside in expos and workshops. Having them at home would be too expensive.
I think that using robots for some dangerous physical is a good idea, minimizing threat for a human life and making more science oriented workplaces instead of labor oriented.
I prefer a robot animal to any kind of animal, because domestication and breeding made animal genetically degraded, if comparing to their ancestors. I'm not sure if i liked something like that at home, because it spooks me a little.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with the opinion that soon we will be seeing the robot on the streets ... we will see

Thank you for your comment. I also think robots will be a big step forward. There are currently many tests as you mentioned and just wait for the results.
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. I also don't like the vision of the future that robots will be everywhere next to us ... but unfortunately it can be so.
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. I think that definitely everyone prefers real dogs. I hope you can get rid of allergies :)
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. It is a fact that robots should help people with disabilities for now, but they often help. However, technology is developing very fast and such works will soon be as toys for children.
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. I agree, such dogs would certainly be very expensive. I think that in a few years, dogs will be relatively cheap and everyone will be able to have one. I also watch SF films and see how AI take control
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. Your opinion is interesting, I think such robots to work in dangerous conditions is a very good idea
Unknown said…
Thank you for your comment. I think that as a toy for children is a great gift.

Thanks for the post. I agree in 100%. A real dog will never be replaced by a robot. It won't has emotions
What do you mean? Its not a problem to imagine that robots like those will exist and work or be someones toy. But It wont be you companion. And that is exactly why i prefer normal dogs, they are alive. Tey are thinking, and they learn to be loyal if you are loyal to them. They you create bound that cannot be made with a machine. Still i could have one of these at home but as said, it would rather be more like a toy. I wouldnt exchange "normal" dog for a robot.
I am pretty sure that robots presented in the film would be in our daily life. I couldn't imagine the impact on our society made by those robots, we know a lot of potentional version from the movies and none of them was good for humanity :D. Of course I would prefer real dog that robotic, to be honest I don't think you could have any real feeling to the robot, and the real animal is warm, soft and unpredictable unlike robots which are programmed by people. Well if I had to why not, but i guess it may be way to expensive for regular people to buy those. It could be a home help to those who need it for example priviliged people with some disabilities robot could be a life saver.

What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?
That looks great, still those robots should had case or clothes then they will be look less strange. They function are amazing, and i like that future.
Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?
Of course normal dog, but dog from the movie would be handy too. For example to clean after normal dog.
Would you like to have such a robot at home?
Of course, those dogs could clean all house or even more that would be amazing.
I think this robots has been developed for scientist purposes but now they develop this robots for humanity. I think they have good passability because they mowing in more natural way. As we know nature has a lot of solutions for our world. I don't prefer dogs at all.
I don't see any useful case for such robot dog at home.

1. What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?
They will be much more perfected and able to have same effectiveness as humans... And without the needs of stopping work for long periods of time. And they will be replacing humans in physical work, firstly in extreme dangerous places.

2. Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?
Definitely normal dog for having fun with it and the robot for work help.

3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?
Yes, for help in work and being sometimes lazy. Or having the robot dog, that would do cleaning after normal dog.

I think that such innovations could find their way both in our everyday lives as well as some other and more serious use cases. The development cycle of machines is undeniably faster than evolution. That's why we can expect them to get much better in relatively short amount of time. Just think of how much people have achieved in the field of computer science in the last 70 years.
I love dogs and I don't think anything could change that. Thankfully, I don't really have to choose for now as the real animals seem to be much better at the moment and the artificial ones still have a long way ahead of them.
As for now, I wouldn't like to have such robot at home. It's pretty clumsy and useless. Maybe someday in the future.

I know that is possible but I hope that will never happen! I can't imagine it because I prefer 'normal' animals. In my opinion it's the same as with people. I remember about "I, robot" movie and it's strange for me. If I read about robots in front of my eyes I have this film. Have you ever watched it? I know that world is developing very fast but I'd rather to do it in other levels for example: medicine. We have a lot of diseases for which weren't invented any cures.

I enjoy watching Boston Dynamics videos, and I have watched about Spot Mini for several times. These robots are kind of cute and funny, but I realize, that there is not a toy. So my dreams of having such a robot won't come true in the next few years:) The same with the real dog. And I would have to choose, I would choose the real one. This is my dream, I love animals, but, unfortunately, my life style won't allow me to have a doggy. So the robot version would be ok for me. Time will show what will happen sooner - or I would change my life to have a real dog, or they will start selling such smart animals for people like me.

Robots are our future for sure, it`s just a matter of time when every family will have a robot support in their home. Because they have to be useful, to my mind, thats why we can`t deny the fact that people will use them. Robo animals is not a good example of supportive robot, because most likely they will be useful and are just going to waste energy. I don`t have domestic animals that`s why I can not really decide what is better, but still I would not like to have neither usual nor robo dog in my house.

Thanks for comment. Just like you, I also prefer dogs

Thanks for comment. I agree with you. Such robots can be a big help for people with disabilities

1. I think that the idea is interesting and very indicative of our time. Now the dawn of robotics and a very unusual robot turned out, which can still perform many different functions.
2. I prefer a normal dog. I love animals and tactile sensations. I do not have a dog, but such a robot dog can’t jump in the morning to my bed and lick it so that I go for a walk with her. This is a clever dog, designed for a certain functioning. Therefore, as an experiment, there is a time to live, but I like normal dogs.
3. None. Such a robot in my house will have little space. And I believe that if there are many dogs on the planet that are born and breed, live in shelters, I do not see any reason to buy a robot dog, because it will not replace the heat that a dog can give that wants to be your family.

In my opinion there wouldn't be robot like this showed in video in the future. This is just a scientific research and robots will not be created to replace living beings.
For sure I prefer normal dogs. Robot can't substitute real animal, which is too complex. I don't see any sense to doing so.
No, I am good with my real dog and will never swap him to robot-like dog.

1. What do you think about the vision of the future of such robots as in the movie?

I think that it's unesesery, there's a lot of dogs in shelters so why encourage people to have a "fake" one.

2. Do you prefer a "dog-robot" or a normal dog?

I definetely prefer a normal dog because it an real animal and have feelings and empathy, they are warm and ALIVE.

3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?

I would like to have a real one , even if its the resposability to go for a walk or pay sometimes medicine and vaccines, robot should not replace living beings.

1. I don't feel that such robots is a good idea.

2. I like electonical devices but I don't think that it would be possible to replace a normal dog with 'dog-robot' because it always be only a substitute.

3. No, not really. :(

I'm a little bit aware of AI. I'm pretty sure, that you've seen Black Mirror. In one episode robo-dog killed few people, because "something went wrong".
I prefer normal dog. It has his own emotions, he loves you and is one of a kind.
If I were given an opportunity to get some robot, I'm sure I will check if it's not dangerous.

I believe there is no escape from the future when we will replace animals with robots. It's sad, but robot-animals are more convenient and flexible. We also have total control over then and don't have to spend the time to teach them commands and how they should behave.

For now, I prefer normal dogs, but with my busy life, I will choose dog-robot if only it would behave the same as a regular dog. I could imagine myself with that robot at home, waiting for me to come to play with me.

3. Would you like to have such a robot at home?
Not really, but how about humanoid slave?

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
