Week 10 [04.06.2018-10.06.2018] Happiness

There is a common belief that you need to study hard, work hard to be more successful and happy. Does it really work this way? Do you really need a better job or higher degrees to feel happy?
Shawn Achor presents his studies below regarding correlation between happiness and success. How you can improve your lives by just being happier

Video:

Questions:
Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?
Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?
What do you do to be happier?

Comments

Yes,i definitely agree with a speaker and i want to add that for me happiness === success. Certainly, meaning of happiness can be different for every person. Yes, i feel happy, but not enough happy to be the happiest person in the world. I need more good results everywhere to feel happier. I work more and try to improve my skills, personal qualities, to let off all the people who pull me down.
Firstly i do not agree with first sentence of a presentation. You never have to work or study hard you have to learn to use your brain to do it most efficient. If you learn how to learn then you wont concider learning as hard. If you learn how to work and you find work that you like you will never work hard but you will have much better results. And how can you feel happy after you study/work hard, maybe you can feel satisfied becouse you've done something big but if you think that you worked hard then it means that you are happy becouse you have ended doing it.

I am agreed with a speaker, but not on 100%, because we have study/work as much as we need it, for example we can just study for 1 hour daily and it will be more than enough to pass exams successfully, which will make us happy. For me happiness from study/work is achieving some goals that I put for myself, for example at the start of each semester. I am not hard-working person, but still my job and studies in certain circumstances makes me happy, like getting salary or passing exams))

I would say that I agree with a speaker but only partially. Unfortunately, in real life success always have subjective definitions and can be achieved in different ways. As it was mentioned in one of the comments early, usually it is not about studying hard or working hard. It's about using your time and productivity in the most efficient way possible or in the way that fits your rhythm. Basically, it means you need to know or create if don't have one your personal work-life balance strategy. But, overall, I think it's not possible to know for sure what makes you feel happy in your life. Even most successful people usually say that they can't achieve the success they want because there is always some level of uncertainty and dissatisfaction in their lives. The most logical conclusion to all of this is that only time and life experience can help us to determine what makes us truly happy.

I only can say that i agree with speaker but partly, i bealive that meanings of happines is different for every person. And As it was mentioned in one of the comments in real life success always have subjective definitions and can be achieved in different ways.
I think i feel happy, I just remembered that maybe 3 days ago i met some old man who was drinking "Grappa" with friends and he offered me to drink with them and asked me: Do you want to be happy? And I said yes of course and he response me: just be happy, that's all you have to do to be happy.

I would say WOW! This is the first video I watch on x1 speed not due to fast speaking. This was a new perspective on what I i fact already know but in more entertaining moreover useful perspective on life in general.
Absolutely loved the talk and the way of presentation together with the whole atmosphere.
I consider myself to be a happy person. Without actual reason why moreover i think this is the whole point of the presentation that you don't have to be happy about something you just happy by virtue of life itself.

Unknown said…
I agree with the speaker, I think that this was a very nice talk. In my opinion it is important to set more and more challenging goals for yourself but if you don't spend some time appreciating what you already have, then you missed the whole point in the first place.
I generally feel happy although I am really lazy and because of that I often accumulate lots of things to do over a short period of time which causes unnecessary stress.
To feel more happy I try to reduce stress, get enough sleep, meet with other people and give 100% out of myself when I work.

I think that it all depends on a person. One may feel happiness solely from recreation, entertainment and generally speaking free time, other must achieve professional success to become truly happy in his life. There are many dimensions of happiness and everyone should find those which generate most fulfillment. I consider myself relatively happy, I do things that I like, purse career which brings me lots of fun, however sometimes I feel the lack intellectual challenge in my technological projects. Hopefully in the near future I will do more scientific things!

I think that I can agree with the speaker. Many people tend to feel unhappy because they pursue the success and always feel like they're not already there. Hoping for a brighter future without realizing where we are now, at the current state of our lives, may indeed push us to feel the sense of always being not good enough. We have to learn to be thankful and appreciate the lives that we live and the things that we have. I know many people who consider themselves as underachievers without any real reason. Maybe it's the culture that makes us behave in such way.
I don't consider myself as a happy person, but neither as an unhappy one. I feel like I could do better in some aspects of my life, but there are also some of them that I'm pretty proud of. This leads me to only one conclusion: I should find out what could I do to make myself feel better and more efficient.
What do I do to make myself feel happier? It's a pretty tough question, because when I start to think about it, there aren't a lot of things that I do in that matter. The most basic answer that I can find to this question is that I try to spend more times with my friends and family, as well as that I try to attend some more events.
Yes, but the thing is, we DO live in he'll hole. We can't just look the other way and not get sad or upset about the world that surrounds us, because we won't ever change it and things will continue to go downhill and get worst. The evil children of Satan, which control the world, would have q field day if people would be content with what they have. Give me a perfect world and I will give you happy people. Until then, sorry, but it's all just a "secret" kind of bs.
I agree with the speaker, becuse for me happiness is equal to success. It is kinda obvious though a person that feels that it has not completed some really needed goal cannot be happy. I do nt feel happy, even though i'm super optimistic i feel that there is a lot to do before i can feel that way. To feel happy i set some goals and achieve them, rewarding myself afterwards, currently i'm kinda stuck =3

From my perspective goal of the speaker to show that to be happy or happier you don’t really should have a higher degree or best hob in a world. Being happy is just how you interpret all that happening around you.
Unknown said…
Agree with you. It always a pleasure when you love your job and satisfied with what you are doing.
Unknown said…
Yes, as you mention that even the most successful people fell himself not happy/not successful. So maybe it will be enough to invest in how to be happy where they are instead of trying to achieve next success point.
Unknown said…
Fully agree with this statement: "Just be happy, that's all you have to do to be happy".
Unknown said…
Pleasure for me that you liked this presentation.

I have same understanding of presentation as you mensiond in your comment.
Unknown said…
Great attitude. I believe all your life is about balance. So challenges it's also important to make your life full of impressions. Wish you good luck in your future challenges.
Unknown said…
I believe also a reason why people feel as underachievers are that now we are surrounded we histories of successful people in books, films, games. And looking on such bright examples people may think that their life is not such bright as some other ones.
Unknown said…
I do not agree with such position. I'm sure that we surrounded with beautiful world fulfilled with nice people. And feeling happy it's just a matter of how you virtue this world.
I agree with the speaker. In my opinion, it is important to set for ourselves more and more complex tasks. This is a new perspective on what I already know. Of course, the meaning of happiness can be different for each person.
Yes, I feel happy, but I'm really lazy, and because of this I often accumulate a lot of things to do in a short period of time. This procrastination sometimes drives me crazy. To be even happier, I need more power over myself and achieve higher goals in the future.

1. I agree with the speaker and particularly liked the part about the tips which can help you to build positive attitude everyday.
2. In general I can say that I feel happy as I consider happiness as satisfaction from achieved goals and not having too much concerns to be worried about. Of course, I have also my bad days but I don’t let myself to feel depressed or discouraged because of fails in my life.
3. I try to stay in shape and appreciate the things which I have right now.

Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?
Yes, I do. And I think the more positive we are, than more successful we become.

Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?
Yes I do. Because there is no reason to be upset.

What do you do to be happier?
I try to surround myself, with people with positive thinking. And also I don't watch news, to avoid negative information. I try to spend more on emotions(festivals, attractions, tasty places), than on material goods.

1. Yes, mostly I agree. The speaker gives interesting vision of our inner energy and also shows the importance of motivation, things that build your feeling of life and happiness. I can't say that I'm happy now, I'm OK. Happiness just like melancholy is a temporary condition of mind, and by combining those and maybe few more people entertain themselves. The longer you dream about something or plan it the happier you'll be when you achieve it.
I'm feel happy mostly all time because I make things in way that I accept. I think that my happiness depends on stability because when I feel like something is unstable I don't feel like I fullify all my needs and sometimes I'm sad about this.
So to be happy I'm always analyze what I do and what can be in some types of situations and trying to escape unstable situations.
Unknown said…
Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?
Mostly but not in 100% because it's very individual case what do we need to achieve happiness and it's not always success, money etc.
Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?
Yes because I have really great friends, lovely family, good health condition, good job, money, I laugh a lot everyday, can't be better!
What do you do to be happier?
I travel a lot because it makes me happier and wiser.
Unknown said…
Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?
Mostly yes because when we achieve a goal we immediately take the next, simply we want to follow the rabbit all the time. When we get the rabbit we leave him and start to follow again.
Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?
I think most of the time yes or maybe I only sleep well. But also sometimes I also feel not so happy, sometimes because of daily causes.
What do you do to be happier?
I try to get some free time to rest and I also diversify my time for different actions like travels or sport.

I agree with a lot of things speaker says. I think that looking positive and ignoring bad news(especially political news) makes your life better. Of course as a society we are looking on happines mainly based on proffesional success, because it often says a lot about person.
I think I'm happy enough, but I know I could be happier and it is of course coming to me I suppose.
What do I do to be happier? Eating pizza makes my whole day better so I eat it quite often :)
Unknown said…
I think that I can agree with the speaker because I feel fulfilled when I achieve success. Of course we should also remember that there are other important thing on world like family, friendships which also should make us happy.

I feel happy because I have a family who is my best support in my life and I feel satisfied because mostly I do well on my studies and I also work where they appreciate my knowledge and skill.

I set up goals and I try to achieve them which makes me happier. Also time which I spend with my girlfriend and my family is important for me and I know how to enjoy it.

Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?
I do agree on him. It has been proved long ago that happiness is the state of mind within you, and not outside of you, so it comes from the inside. Many millionaires are still not happy, even though they are understood to be successful, rich people with abundance of things and luxury.

Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?
I think permanent happiness is something difficult to grasp. It is important to feel balance in life, and from time to time to get those strikes of happiness and joy that light up life. I think I get those quite often.

What do you do to be happier?
I try not to complain and work on my self-discipline to see world in brighter colours.
Mostly I agree with the speaker but I have my own point of view. I think that to be unsatisfied with what you have now is pretty good approach. Thanks to it you keep yourself motivated and "hungry". It’s always not enough for and this makes you move further. On the other hand constantly being unsatisfied won’t make you ever feel happy , so there should be some kind of balance between these states. To my mind you always have to struggle more and appreciate what you have. These 2 facts could make you happy and better person at the same time.

I agree with almost all statements. It's true that the whole education backs up the idea of hard work as key to the success. I noticed some people realize it's not true quite quick after the start living on their own and some repeat that routine and are simply not happy. I only wonder why he suggested bringing everyone to the same level.

I don't know if we have the same definition of happiness but regarding this video I consider myself happy.

I exercise, meet people, do some hobbies.

Success makes me happier, cause why I should be upset if I succeed in what I love. But I have so much things that make me happy already.
I'm trying to move forward, improve myself. It matters to me to see happy faces of my family and friends. So, it's a lot of work.

Do you agree with the speaker? Why/Why not?

I rather agree with the speaker but not at all.
In my opinion the happyness is in your heart. I think also that for your happyness, your success have influence but for others people the definitions of success are various.

Do you feel happy? Why/Why not?

I feel happy at all. Sometimes i have bad days but rather i feel goon with my live.

What do you do to be happier?

I make tbings for people. Someone told me that if I feel bad with live it seems that i don't have time for help others. And in my live it works. So i'm happy, even if i feel that it's not my time now.

I agree with speaker, success makes me happy but there are some other factors like family and friends.
I think that I'm happy. I have good family and friends. I don't have a lot of problems and it's very good... I don't want to change anything. We should smile, appreciate from victories even if they are small. Life is good so "carpe diem" :)
What do you do to be happier? Hmmm, a lot of small things makes me happy. The easiest way is meeting with my family. I love to spend time with them.

I agree with the speaker. For sure if you are happy you get more successful in your life. We have to be happy about what do we have now. We cannot push away happiness by saying “I will be happy when X happens”. We have to be happy about what do we have now. It is really simple and can cause only good things. I feel happy every morning that I can be awake and do something in my life and it does not matter if I eat cereals or cut grass in my garden. It is really helpful and and I have reached that only by changing way of thinking. I became more happy when I realized that if make condition between something and happiness I just push happiness away. When you realise it you can be happy because you are happy and it never ends and everything is beautiful and possible.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
