Week 12 [22.01.2018 - 28.01.2018] Benefits of snowboarding

Most of the people are complaining about boredom during the winter time. Of course they are happy at the beggining of that season thanks to snowing, christmas time but after few weeks they are getting tired because of lack of physical activity. Whilst you don’t have any influence of changing seasons, you don’t have to wait till summer because there is perfect solution which calls snowboarding.

There are a lot of advantages of this winter sport. First of all it puts you in a good mood due to releasing endorphins responsible for happiness. It also increase your flexibility because you have to change directions. Moreover it requires body balance. You are increasing self-confidence whenever you obtain new skill and crossing your own barriers. If you like muscle traning, you have to try snowboarding because during ride your major muscle groups works especially feet and ankles.

Beginning are always difficult, but after couple of hours you can manage to keep basic position. It is also helpfull to take some lessons from specialist who carefully explain to you how you should start with your adventure. Instructor will explain to you for example: how to keep your balance, how to deal with falling and walk uphill. It is worth to buy some protectors for your tailbone and knee, trust me- you won’t regret it. If you are afraid, you can start to sliding down from begginers slope, before you will practice on normal one.

You can check the link below to find out how to obtain some of snowboarder skills.

I have started my snowboarding adventure few years ago, but honestly I wish I could start earlier. When I tried it for the first time I realised that it’s an amazing sport. Since I began to learn snowboarding, every year I’m practicing. Truly speaking now I can’t imagine winter without atleast one excursion during this time.

Questions:
  1.  How do you feel during the winter time, are you more depressed than in summer?
  2.  Have you ever tried snowboarding? If yes - describe your feeling about that activity, if not – have you ever tought about it?
  3. Do you have any other propositions to make that time more active?

Comments

I'm not much winter person type, so yeah I'm more depressed in winter than in summer. I've never tried snowboarding, still I think it's really exciting. I've always wanted to try snowboarding. When I was younger I really enjoyed watching Shaun White ( is he still riding?). I hope that in near future I will manage to start learning how to ride a snowboard.
Making time more active? There is a ton of ways doing it ;) When it comes to sports, martial arts is what I like the most - it makes me really relaxed. Despite sports there is so much thing we can do: meet someone, explore world, eat great stuff, party all night long or read some epic book series. There is so much thing that life allows us to do.

I do not mind the winter, especially when it's a snowy and cold one. Depressed is a word better suitable for the fall.

I've been snowboarding for 12 years now, unfortunately with some pauses over the years. Especially when riding on big mountains (and especially off the course), it is awesome. The views. The speed. The adrenaline. Riding the fresh puffy snow. I've also been learning some tricks before (grabs, spins and some grinds) and it was one of the best aspects about snowboarding, and is something I want to refresh this year. There is no better way of spending the winter than on the slopes, no matter of what you're riding. I've been skiing for a couple of years before I started snowboarding and even though I do not enjoy it as much as snowboarding, I know it can be just as much fun for some :)

I don;t feel more depressed than in summer except that time when we have to change out clocks and have to get used to darker days. But I like winter especially when it's a huge amount of snow and it's sunny.
I have been snowboarding for a few years. I really liked it very much, but it become boring to me.
In winter we can make out time active by skating as well. Of course if someone hates winter there are lots of activities which are available all the year for example swimming pool or gym.

I hate winter, for me it's the worst season of the year (maybe along with autumn ;P). And yes, I feel depressed during this time, I don't know whether it's caused only by lack of activity, I try to go to the gym regularly during winter, I think it's mainly because of shorter days, bad weather and overall aura. I tried snowboarding and I really liked it. I was mainly skiing, but some time ago I decided to try snowboard and in my opinion it's way more fun. In Warsaw we have 'Zimowy Narodowy' where you can go on the skatepark and ice skate, so this are other possible options for activity during winter time.

My proposal will be to go play snowballs. It's funny and I haven't done it since I was child. I'd play it with pleasure.
Although I've never tried snowboarding I always wanted to try. I tried to skiing few times and I liked it, so I think that I would have liked snowboarding too. I believe I'll try it in nearest future.

Winter is very pleasant but I definitely love Summer. Autumn introduces a chandre in us and goes to Winter. Im a fan of skiing, I have never ridden a snowboard yet and I would love to try it. This year I wanted to try but it wasn't possible. I will definitely try this sport in a year. In winter you can do other sports. Live last time I was and had a great time. Ski very good entertainment. When I was little, I went on a sled, now I'm too big.

I have never felt depressed and don't know how is it. So, I don't know what to say ...
I tried snowboarding but it's not mine. I broke my leg and after that, I have never tried snowboarding :(
Now, I prefer walks in the mountains or travel :)

The topic is really interesting. Personally, I love to skate. And a few times a week I do this, I have ice palace near my home, and it works till 10 pm, so it's possible to get fun there. But how are things going with snowboarding? Do you do it only on weekends? And where can you do this in Warsaw?
I have never tried snowboarding and, honestly, I'm afraid of it a little bit. But I'd like to try with a good instructor.

My feelings about winter are extreme.
When I'm on my way to work or I'm sitting in the office I hate it - it is cold uptside, there is an ice on the sidewalk.
But - my dog loves snow, so there is nothing better than walk with her, when there is snow everywhere. Even though it is cold outside, I'm warmed-up from inside, really. I believe you have never seen such happiness.
I have never been snowboarding or skiing and as for now I haven't thought of it.
My favourtie way of being active during winter (when there is snow) are making snowman, snowball fight (or throw for dog) and walking my dog

On the beggining I have to say that I hate winter. I don't like when it's cold. I don't like when days are short and there is a lot of darkness. Because I love my car and I wash it frequently, winter is the worst time because it's hard to keep car clean. That's why I hate winter but... for me, the best way would be to keep winter all the time in some places like mountains etc because when I go on winter holidays I like winter for this few days. I've tried snowboarding few times but I decided to stay with skiing. I love skiing and for me it's much better than snowboarding.

I would love to try ride on the snowboard but haven't had an opportunity yet. Saw quite a lot of cool films where the main character sliding off the hill with such an ease on his face. The biggest dream thou is to jump off the helicopter on top of the mountain slide some distance jump off some cliff then fly by wind suit and finally open a parachute.

1. During winter time I don’t have that much energy as I do in the summer, however I would not say that I feel depressed. This reduced amount of energy is of course related to shorter days and lack of sunshine most of the winter time

2. I have been skiing for more than 15 years and for a long time I haven’t considered trying snowboarding as skiers can go much faster than snowboarders. However, this winter I want to try snowboarding just to check if it can give as much fun as skiing.
3. I try to compensate this bad influence by physical activities – I am trying to play squash, go to the gym or even go for a run when weather conditions are satisfactory. However, currently I find it really hard because I am a bit overloaded with my daily tasks.

I like winter time but only when there is snow. I hate autumn in this time I'm more depressed. Yes of course I've tried snowboarding. I do this most of my life. This winter I've been in the mountains three times. I'm not only snowbording. This year I hiked in high Tatry with my friend for the first time . It was amazing adventure. We went with special equipment. I recommend this type of winter hobby. I hope that I will get to spend more time in the mountains. Alps are an amazing place for snowboarding.

I don’t feel depressed during the winter, my mood stays the same during the year. One thing that I hate is shorter day and longer night, especially when you wake up and go back home at dark. I have never tried snowboarding and never really wanted to. However I do love skiing and this is my favorite winter sport. Unfortunately I don’t have any propositions for other winter activities, for me this was always skiing.

I feel fine during the winter time. Of course it is better when day are longer during a summer but I am not depressed becasue of season. I have tried snowboarding and it is really interesting activity which I can commend this for everybody! I will not have opportunity to snowboard this year but I hope that next year I will have and I will learn new tricks. :)

Hmm.. winter time is good for me. I have the same feels as with summer time. It is colder time but landscape is more beautiful.
I have never tried snowboarding but I really want! I have talked about that with my friends who has a lot of experience in snowboarding. I hope that I will do it in next winter break.
I like to play football with my friends - the best example of activity and teamwork (for me of course :P). What do you think about my proposition?
1. Obviously, I prefer summer. But I cannot say I am depressed during winter. I like white sceneries, beautiful trees painted with snow. There are many nice days with sunny weather. Of course, there are some worse ones, when roads are slippery, it is very risky to drive a car – I don’t like it. But thanks to winter we can appreciate summer, after all.
2. I’ve never tried snowboarding. Actually I am not fond of winter sports. For me, winter doesn’t disturb in jogging. It looks differently then, but it is possible also when it is freezing cold.
3. That time can always be active. If not, we can always go to fitness club and choose the exercises we like. We can also start dancing course or meetings with personal trainer. Of course, those activities are indoor ones. As outdoor activeness, apart from jogging, I accept also long walks.

You have to try it Andrzej, you wont regret it i promise! By the way Shaun White is still riding!

I think the same. I started my adventure on snowboard and later I tried skis, but to be honest that's not for me. It gives me pleasure.

I was in PGE Narodowy 2 years ago, I was going down the hill on a pontoon and tried zip line from stadium roof! It was amazing
Unknown said…
Propably playing with snowballs could be funny but it basic on how strong you shoot:) My friend broke nose 3 weeks ago because of snowball fight. If you like skiing then you will love snowboard!
Unknown said…
I would like to ride every weekend but unfortunelly its not possible because it's too far from Warsaw. I travel every year to any tourist resort for 2 weeks and thats it. You can check "http://gorka-szczesliwicka.com/" but I have never been there to be honest.
Unknown said…
Wow, I can't imagine it but it sound fun! I think that you have to ride on snowboard since kid to obtain such skills like that
Generally speaking I don't like when it is cold, however, in some places like mountains winter is very nice. And I like being active in the cold weather. Although I have tried snowboarding only once in my life, I will definitely try it once again in the near future. It was a lot of pain from falling, but I did enjoy myself a lot. Beside that, mountains are very beautiful in winter, and I hope that when I get more advanced, I'll be able to enjoy nature more. Winter activities can be very different, but they all should be about physical activity.

I'm not depressed during the winter if it snows. I just love this time of the year. I can say that it's pretty unpleasant to stay outside in the winter if there is no snow. It's pretty "greyish" then and there is just no fun in that! I can honestly say that I prefer winter as opposed to summer. I don't like it when it's too hot outside. For me it's pretty unbearable.
I absolutely love snowboarding, it's my favourite winter sport. I guess it's also my favourite sport overall. When I'm snowboarding I fell like I have no reason to worry about anything at all. I love to go out skiing or snowboarding together with my friends, we can literally spend whole day outside. I would recommend this activity to anyone that likes to spend time in an active way.
There are a lot of ways to stay active. I would really recommend to try going to the gym or even some martial arts. I used to take part in some martial arts for some time. It was a really great experience, but it takes a really great amount of time.

I feel little more depressed in winter. But sometimes i like come back to my home, go under the quilt i watch a movie or read a book with a cup of tea. I feel good when i feel warm when outside is cold. Of course in summer i feel more motivated to do something. If it comes about winter sports i'm rather reactive. It's one of my dream to try snowboarding but I've never had a chance to try it. Maybe this year i will try. But it's one of my favorites activities is related to winter. I love skating. I've been skating for 10 years and i think that it's great idea to overcome winter stagnation.

Actally there is little diffrenece for me if there is winter or summer. Time is going very fast. There isn't almost any snow in winter. I ride a bike. And I can do it all the seasons in the year. I didn't try snowboarding, but I tried skiing. I very like skiing. But it costs much more than bike. To make winter more active when there is snow I put on spike tires on my bike.

There is a luck of sun rays in winter, and that's why there is a lack of energy. Winter is beautiful, charming and so on, but without sun it is causes depression.
I've tried skiing in Białka Tatrzańska, and I had a lot of impressions. There was a lot of tracks, and I even came down the red track without any accidents. The only problem is money - you have to rent skis, ski bots, ski poles(not mentioning that you have to rent a flat first of all), then you have to purchase ski passes. But, of course, it's worth it :)

I like winter, but how much snow is there and how cold it is. Unfortunately, now the winter is very ugly. But I definitely prefer summer. I can ski, I can not snowboard. I tried to learn but it does not go away. I can lean back, but I always fell down. So I stayed skiing.

How do you feel during the winter time, are you more depressed than in summer?
I think not, I do my activities as well. I only can not wait for some outside events.
Have you ever tried snowboarding? If yes - describe your feeling about that activity, if not – have you ever tought about it?
I tried first time in the begging of the current season, but only for a few hours, rest of the time I spend on skiing, which I use from many years. Returning to the merits snowboarding was kid of fascinating, and I will practice it in future.
Do you have any other propositions to make that time more active?
Another good option in winter for me are skating. Icerings are open in some cities and are only in winter season. For that reasons I recommend that kind of active.
Actually I don't know, I think I like summer better, simply because I don't need to wear those fat warm jackets with all sort of extra stuff and it's still cold. I like just going outside as I am in the home. On the other hand summers that are too hot are not really nice either, since I avoid them even more than I avoid cold days during winter.
I did snowboarding for the first time couple weeks ago , and this tips helped me. Thought through the falls i hit the snow with my knees and butt :D the whole sport is really tiring. :D

I love winter, only when it's snowing. I don't like when it's clap. I don't have any depression as some think that winter is very cool and you can certainly spend it interestingly practicing skiing or snowboarding. Yes, I tried snowboarding and skiing. In my opinion skiing is more interesting. Even if it's not possible to go to the mountains, you can always spend the winter going to the pool or skates.
Unknown said…
I don't like winter because there is nothing to do. Except ice skating in cities. I know that you can go skiing or snowboarding but it's only 2 weeks in 12 week winter time, so it doesn't count. Maybe if you live in the mountains, you can do it everyday.
I have been skiing for 12-13 years now, but I have never snowboarded. Maybe one winter I will swap the gear and learn new thing.
During the winter you can sit on your couch, drink warm tea and watch every series on Netflix.
Thanks to the author for the article. I always wanted to learn how to snowboard. This sport seems magical. I tried to learn how to ride a snowboard only once. I was taught by my friends who already had experience in this sport. Now I think that everything was pretty sad. I suspect that it is not created for winter sports. Maybe, normally I can ride only on sleigh and snowmobiles. This article inspired me, maybe I should try again with an experienced teacher.
How do you feel during the winter time, are you more depressed than in summer?
Constantly, especially in the city. Out in the woods it is quite fun.

Have you ever tried snowboarding? If yes - describe your feeling about that activity, if not – have you ever tought about it?
Tried it, loved it but last time was about 10 years ago. I'm working a lot and currently prefer to spent vacation in the Summer.
Do you have any other propositions to make that time more active?
I do not understand this question - to make Snowboarding more effecting ? It already is ;]

Honestly, I think , for me it doesn't matter. Seasons don't influence my mood radically, sometimes good snowy winter is better than summer, and sometimes warm cozy summer is better than winter.
Yes, I have tried snowboarding and really liked it. I love it , because first of all - Incredible adrenaline rush, second of all - a lot of difficult trails, techniques and styles of snowboarding, which will keep your interest in snowboarding for many years.
Let me think, ice skating is pretty cool, good old snowball game is always will be in my heart.
I’m like winter very much but to be honest I prefer summer. I have tried snowboarding a couple of years ago and as a person skiing for most of my life, felt it was much more interesting. I felt somewhat similar to skiing but with much more fun.

I love winter, but the real one - with show, frosty weather, everything turns white. But the last years winter time looks more like an endless November, and I hate November. So I do feel a little depressed and the best option for me is to avoid leaving home as much as possible. About snowboarding - I used to be a fan of it. I remember my first day, I was alone at the hill, nobody to explain me even the basics. Can't count how many time have I fallen down, but it was amazing and I fell in love. The next day I have changed my strategy and found the instructor, I helped a lot and since that time I enjoyed the snowboarding for a few years. But then I have broken my leg - not because of snowboarding, but because of wearing high heels(yeah, stupid, right?:)), and I had two operations, long rehabilitation and now I have a problem with some kind of movements, which are necessary for a snowboard rider, so it was a sad end of my winter activities. But I still love watch other people ride. I think snowboarding is beautiful and I like it more then skies.
But I still can ice skate, walk in the mountains - I love mountains, play snowballs and make snow figures;)
I love every year season. Maybe the last years winter is more about "smog" and no snow at all, but still I do not feel worse. I have never tried winter sports, I would like to give it a try one day, I would like to start with skiing. Winter does not disturb me in my training sesions, maybe less jogging.
Unknown said…
Haha nice! It's tiring only at the beginning because you brake all the time. After 2-3 seasons you should feel better:)
Unknown said…
You welcome! I had really bad instructor for the first time, I couldn't even ride after whole day while my girlfriend was doing progress every hour. That was just because she had better instructor... she told me some tips and I started to ride! So don't be sad and try again, you will love it!
Unknown said…
I am happy then! For me being physically active at winter time is very important.
Unknown said…
it's obvious that almost everyone feels more active in summer because weather aids good mood and weather conditions. Consequently, I do feel better in summer.
No I haven't because I don't live in mountaint and I consider it to be dangerous
if it was snowing I would play snowballs
I loved skiing when I was a kid. I'd go skiing at least once a year in primary school. In middle school I was lucky enough to be in one class with a great bunch of friends. We'd all go skiing together every year. Those were the times. Then in junior high school I decided to try snowboarding, I bought all the gear, went into mountains, and had to go back after 2 days, because all the snow melted. Haven't had time for skiing since, but maybe one day :)
Snowboarding is the only reason why i like winter time. However winter (espesially in Poland) is pretty depressing for me. Melting snow and mud in no way resembles winter from photos at all. Yes, i have tried snowboarding and i loved it. However i feel that fall during the downhill slope is more dangerous when you're snowboarding than when your are skiing.

When winter comes, I do not feel depressed at all. On the contrary,
I am happy when the first snowflakes appear, when I see first signs of approaching
Christmas, it all creates magical atmosphere. I have never tried snowboarding, because
in my youth I did not have much money to buy complete ski outfit. Also a trip to the mountains during high season was quite expensive. At present, I did not try it out yet, because of lack of time. The defense
engineering work is coming and I'm preparing to this. Maybe when it is over, who knows, I will go to Tatra mountains and start learning snowboarding. Another reason is that in Warsaw there are many attractions. For example ice skating, climbing, attractions in National Stadium and many more ...

Personally, I prefer summer than winter. I love the sea, beaches and palm trees. In the past winters in Poland were much colder. There were a lot of snow, everything was white and the temperature was very low. Now winter is just a little amount of snow and rain...
I have never tried snowboarding. I used to ski only once in my life. Sometimes in winter I go ice-skating - I really like it!

I love winter's sports but during the winter time I am more depressed thain in summery, mostly because the day in winter is so short. I never tried snowboarding but I love skiing. I started ski when I was 6, and I am going to ski in Austria in three weeks. Everyone should try do some winter's sport, because any activity makes that you are less depress :)
I love snow and winter but, only in mountains. When it comes to winter in town i hate all the "snow" thing on the ground. It is also much worse to drive car while everything is wet.

I love snowboard. Going freeride to the forest is one of the best things i have done. It is completly different experience, no people that only makes you angry, deep fluffy snow etc.

I love to listen music while snowboarding.

Wow, if you started as kid then propably you are

>How do you feel during the winter time, are you more depressed than in summer?
Nope, I usually don't have time for that - Its usually end of semesters or fiscal years, so both at work and school I have things to do. Besides, nothing can beat skidding (I wouldnt call myself drifting) your car here and there...
>Have you ever tried snowboarding? If yes - describe your feeling about that activity, if not – have you ever tought about it?
Unfortunately my parents are doctors, so I hear plenty of "these cool stories" about both motorcycles and snowboarders with paraplegism, also I'm a good skier and don't like sitting on cold snow for most of the time.
>Do you have any other propositions to make that time more active?
Well, writing your comments half an hour before the deadline? I don't know, but in winter its mostly "winter sports" and, well... drifiting?

I despise winter because its cold, humid, and not very pleasant. The only thing that I always liked about it was that you could go skiing in that time and you can't really do it in the summer. I have never tried snowboarding but I would very much like to in the future.

During winter I tend to feel very, very depressed, it is just lack of Sun and very low pressure. I have never tried snowboarding and I don't think I ever will - I don't like snowboarders as they usually occupy all the width of the slope and they also like to fell and you may end up hitting them while skiing. When it comes to other propositions - I would say that going somewhere abroad would be a good idea to feel the warmth and the Sun which is a rare phenomenon in Poland during winter
I really like the winter not only the geography of a world surrounding us changes ( in our eyes), i also always tell ppl that when u re cold u have many countermeasures against it : wear more/warmer clothes, drink something hot, start fire while when we re hot its not so easy to cool down.

Snowboarding is really really fun i prefer it over any other winter sport, although im not doing it much lately unfortunately.

I would suggest to travel more, but no to the places we have not been yet, or to the places we visit during winter - go travel to the places u have never been in winter and check them out when the snow is down, trust me they change a lot.

Oh, definetly the wintertime is a much more depressing period during the year. I prefer much more months when the sun shines and the temparature is high. I have never tried snowboarding - every winter I escape whenever is warm, so I do not have the possibilty of gaining this experience. Frankly, I do not really regret and I’ve never considered to go snowboarding. As I mentioned above, I try to escape from the cold, so winter sports are not kinda my thing.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
