Week 8 [04.12 - 10.12.2017] Magic human trait

Have you ever wondered what is the key to happiness?

Almost everyone, everywhere wants to be happy – this is obvious. Some people try to be very positive, some look for something from “outside” which will make them happy – jewellery, cars, toys, clothes and other goods. Some people think that their hobby will make them happy – sports, dance, cooking or other. There are also people who want to be better and want to make the world a better place – charity and others. There is also a group of people who think that they won’t be happy – they don’t deserve it, it is too hard or it is impossible to be happy at all.

Is there a simple key to happiness? Is there a way to be happier than we are now?

Please, watch this video:

Questions:
1.  Do you agree, that this “magic human trait” may make people happier? If you disagree – why?
      2. What makes you happy? Are there any actions, thoughts or incentives that make you feel happy?
      3.  How would you describe being happy? (Is it something in your mind, is it something that is felt in     all your body?)

I’m curious about your opinion.

Yeah, I agree with author of this presentation, but not in every aspect. Being grateful is really important factor in everyday life. Although, I do not think that this is "must have" for finding happiness. Reason for this is a fact that everyone defines happiness in their own way.
What makes me happy? Having person that loves and supports me is most important for me. Health of me and my family is also matters for me. Other things, less important, that makes me happy are: having challenging tasks during work/school and having opportunity of doing sport after hard day. Also achieving something special makes me fell great, but as I said earlier love is one of the most important factor in my opinion.
Being happy from a science point of view is just a chemistry process. From more social point of view, being happy is a state of mind, that allows you to enjoy life.

Do you think, that this is possible to be happy when you're not grateful?
To be being grateful is almost same thing as appreciate things, situations, people. Can you be happy when you don't appreciate for example someone you love?
I think that being happy is very individual stuff - there may be someone that fells happy only because he/she has some super rare skin in some game.

I've heard about how gratitude is important before, and also I've heard the same thing about helping people. It was one of the best social life-hacks for me, because it takes you literally nothing to help someone and you gain only a good feelings in return (and some karma too).
I'm happy when I achieve something, when I had a kind talk with someone, when I've done something important, and so on - I think most of us have similar way of being happy.
By the way, after this video comes "Men and the power of the Visual" which is quite funny and interesting to watch :)

By combining what you've mentioned you can make an infinite circle of happiness - you can make yourself happy by helping someone else (and you get good karma back), then, someone you've helped will also be happy (due to gratitude) and so on :)

In general, yes, I agree, that it has some points. But it looks like a really easy thing to abuse for those, who has a power in our world. It is like in religion: you should be grateful to your god for life he gave you, you should be grateful for every suffering (trials, as they call them). And if nowadays it sounds like a not big deal, in Middle Ages, for example, church really used such dogmas to control the populace.

I can't specify, what makes me happy. Happines it is not something that you feel for some period of time, it is some special state of the mind, when you don't bother about problems and feel calm. It is really hard to achieve such state, more harder is to understand it.

For me being happy is achieving something in my life after a long and hard work on myself. I also feel happy when I have someone to share my achievements and emotions with. Happiness is something that everyone defined for himself. Someone can be happy just siting all day long at home and relaxing, because he doesn`t need to do anything else, but someone is fighting everyday, to become better and than watch on yourself a little bit later and get proud of yourself or learn on your mistakes.

You can exaggerate everything - you have to be nice. So you have to be nice even is someone is spits on you? No, you should be nice in general, but you have got your own mind and you can judge.
Same thing is with being grateful. You can think and you know what you want be grateful for. You will be grateful for help, but not the one which will make you work more.
We are not in Dark Ages and you can decide what you want to think.

You said that you're happy, when yoy achieve something, when your hard work pays off and you can see effects. You also mentioned that sharing it with others make you happy, but is there anything from outside that can make you happy? When somebody else do something, when you watch something? When you take part in something, but without great effort?

Well, there is some truth in this short video but I don't agree with it in one aspect - lowering standards. It seems like the authors says that we should expect, so we'll be more happier if we get something. I don't agree with that - if we are unhappy about something, we should never lower our standards but work hard to improve our current situation instead.
It's hard to tell what makes me happy. Sometimes it's getting something I always wanted to have and sometimes it's just a "feeling of peace" I have from time to time.
I believe being happy is a state of mind when we aren't worried about anything and we're thinking only about positive things.

we should expect less*
Being Spoiled and entitled in life is a huge issue! The less you have out right amiable to you the more you are grateful for what u get in life. Music brings me happiness, helping others does too , there are many small things that combined give me sense of happiness in my life. Being happy is all about our mind. It how we perceive our surroundings and what happens in our lives that defines what happiness is to us.

I don't agree with some of the aspects being mentioned in this video. I don't think it's as simple as that. Ungrateful people may be happy and grateful people may be unhappy. Why? Because we can't be neither grateful or ungrateful about everything. We can even have both of these feelings about the single situation, not to mention our entire lives!
What makes me happy the most is having a lot of spare time to get rest, read some books and spend time in whatever way I want. Why something as simple? Just because I don't have much time lately for myself. I'm much more grateful for having some spare time now.
I would describe being happy as the secretion of certain neurochemicals inside our bodies which trigger some kind of feelings and behaviors.
Is there a simple kay to happines? It wont suit the theme of the video but i think there is. You have just to appreciated every little positive aspect. Like you should be happy that you have home, you are not very sick etc. Like, you should be happy if you dont have to worry about every next day.

What's make me happy? I think that free time with my family is the situation which makes me the happiest person in the world. It can be nothing particular for other people but I'm very family person. I think that everybody has a simple key for happiness but it is very individual and it can't be evaluated from other people.
How I can describe happiness? It's very hard... It's not smiling all the time for me, it's something what I can feel inside.

I agree with you - lower your expectations isn't a good solution. You can always expect less and less to the moment, when you won't expect anything - but that's not the point. You shouldn't change anything in order to be happy. Being happy should be parallel to your actual life and not to the one you will arrange, so there may be some happiness.

I like your answear - you read it and you exactly know what a happiness is to you.
I agree that being spoiled is a great issue. I had got a similar thought few days ago. Me and my sister went for shopping and I wanted to buy our brother one more thing for Christams and my sister stopped me, saying that now he is small, and if he will used to get view presents he will never be happy with one, as it will not be enought. She was right - now, he has got a change to learn hot to appreciate things and presents. It's not about number of present, but a fact that he got one.

By your answear I can see that you keep both feet on the ground. But it is important - to find happiness somewhere near to you.
I have got similar situation. I was working a lot and few days ago my boss told me, that all team can take a few days off - in just one moment I felt so happy, I imaginated myself resting, reading books, walking with my dog - small activities, that almost doesn't matter, but can bring happiness.

As it was mentioned in the movie - you just have to be grateful. I also think that this is important - we're not is some superhermo movie, there won't be any Thor or other blonde God to safe us and let us help him save the world. But there is our daily, which may bring us happiness if we let it do so.
Unknown said…
It works same as me.
When I'm listening to my sister, who is unbearable but lovely, when I'm looking at my little brother, when he is playing around, when my dog comes to me to cuddle - I can feel something like warm inside. Calm, no thoughts - just appreaciating moment.

1.I partially agree with the statements spoken in the video posted. I agree that being grateful can help you become happier person but I don’t consider it as a crucial factor or the ‘must have’ for being happy in life as there are people who find happiness through other things than gratitude, e.g.: material goods. Secondly, I agree that people who think that they are entitled to more things than other are less happy about what they get and less satisfied with their life. However, you should be careful and not treat this statement as a permission for asking less of yourself and then be more satisfied with the results you achieved.
2.It is a difficult question as many things can bring me joy, satisfaction or simply make me happy. Undoubtedly, I really enjoy accomplishing tasks which I was assigned as this brings me satisfaction and lets me rely on myself and even simple things cause happiness in my life e.g.: doing good workout at the gym, talking to my team mates at work, visiting good restaurants etc.
3.I would describe being happy as feeling calm, relaxed and confident.

Can you be happy because of material things if you do not feel gratitude for them?
I agree that expecting less isn't a good thing - it won't lead to anywhere.
It is good and it makes it easier, when you can find happiness in your everyday life.

I agree that being grateful is important to be happy. Because then you can appreciate what you have. For example your partner makes you a cup of tea. Being grateful makes you appreciate the fact they prepared it, they could not have prepared it and just get one for him/herself, and makes them feel better you appreciated that small thing.
I believe thinking you do not deserve everything helps me remember I should work on myself. Because if you think you just deserve that tea, you don't appreciate it. And if you don't get the tea you get mad. And that's not making you happy at all, I guess.
It's very difficult to describe being happy. I would say happiness is when what you think, feel and do is truly coherent.

That vid was a great reminder. Thanks for that.
It makes sense that being grateful makes people happy. It's hard to imagine ungrateful person being happy, thats true. What makes me happy are usually small things. I've remembered a quote which I like "Szczęście jest w tysiącu drobiazgów,
tworzących mozaikę życia codziennego" (by Konopnicka I guess) which in english would be something like "Happines is in a thousand details of everyday life's mosaic". It's not only about the moment when you win the lottery, it shouldn't be.
Unknown said…
I agree with you. By thinking that you deserve everything what is done for you, you may don't appreciate it - and this is very important. By changing your thinking, just a littel, one cup of team as you mentioned, may ba small brick of happiness in your daily life.

I like that quote and I agree with it. How can anyone be happy, if they don't appreciate their everyday life? Like, if someone is not happy daily, becasue all of it is not enough, walking on red carpet will make them happy, getting some award?
1. This is very interesting topic, thanks for that. On one hand I would like to answer honestly, on the other, I have some problems with honest writing on the blog about such important things. And this is the issue it is impossible to be true without some kind of pathos. But I’ll try.
I am definitely for such understanding of “magic human trait” as mentioned in the video. Of course we can quarrel about definition of “happiness”, but when we look for the real state of this kind, we have to agree it is not connected to the outside staff, but it can only be inside us, it must go from our inside. And it does not depend on external events, which we can always interpret good or bad, our attitude is our decision in fact, always. I know it is difficult to accept, when we deal with catastrophes, deaths and other bad things in our life. Sometimes we just need some time to go farther, but after all it always depends on us, if we can see everything positively or negatively, if we can find inspiration and hope even in difficult and tragic situation.

2. Referring to the point 1, finding hope in hopeless situation gives me a real happiness feelings. But if we talk about everyday happiness, I keep on appreciating all the small things I meet, I love to take part in fanny – strange situations, and also I love solving sophisticated problems in work, it gives me one of the biggest pleasure to look for a solution which I implement and the result is successful.

3. Being happy for me is a state of my mind, controlling my thoughts and life aspirations versus my life rules. I just need to be honest towards myself, to feel good with my decisions and to have peace in my mind. Simply saying, I need to feel I do everything well and I am a good person. That gives me internal happiness. All the other things are everyday pleasures, felt in head, body, heart – it is very tempting to fight to achieve them. We want or not, our human instinct pushes us too look for them, to point towards them, although sometimes we don’t know, if they will be really good for us.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
