Week 9 [05.12 - 11.12] Salsa dance

I started dancing Salsa dance around 3 years ago. It got my heart from the first classes because of its fast and energetic moves. In this article I would like to show what salsa is about, its different styles, which have gained a lot of popularity recently.

Salsa is a Latino American dance with Caribbean origins and with very strong influences of Cuba and Puerto Rico. Salsa does not mean only dance, it is also a music genre and well-known hot sauce.
It originated in New York City and was danced by immigrants from Cuba and Puerto Rico. As everyone knows (I hope) their sense of rhythm is amazing so it is nothing surprising that they have combined music and dance of their homeland together with the disco fever. It evolved from such dance forms like Cha cha or Mambo which were popular in Latino communities in New York in the 40s.

Unusual name
It is believed that it is called salsa because it is hot dynamic. Some other believe that the name means many different styles mixed together, just like the salsa sauce.

What is the base of salsa rhythm?
Salsa is based on so called Clave rhythm which is present in all of the salsa styles. The Clave rhythm is played with two wooden sticks called clave.

Claves

Even with such basic tool you can generate music for dancing.
If you are eager to hear clave sounds, please check the video below ;)

Most popular Salsa styles
As I have mentioned salsa has many different roots, that's why there are so many different styles of salsa. The most popular in Poland are Cuban Salsa and Line Salsa (LA style, NY style).
Have a quick look at how both of them looks:
Cuban Salsa:

Line Salsa:

If you watched carefully, you could spot the main difference between these two styles.
The first one; as the name suggests;  is danced in a straight line. It is all about keeping this line while doing all dance moves. For me, it was very hard to keep the line.

The second one; Cuban style; is very territorial (not like LA salsa). People dancing the Cuban style tend to use more space and they do not stay in one line.

Even if there are differences in the styles of salsa the basic moves are the same. I danced with people practising the Cuban salsa and we didn’t have much problem to understand each other.

Can you dance? What style do you dance?
What do you think about Salsa?
Do you like it? If yes what do you like about it?

A few years ago I was keen on dancing. I was practicing Zumba, Salsation, Reggaeton and some other Latin dance styles.
I think Salsa looks awesome and I'd love to try it someday. The best in this dance style for me is a great, positive music, the fact that it's quite fast and optimistic and as I said - it all looks awesome.

I think that I dance well only at weddings haha. My own style invented by me :). I never went to school dance. I never danced salsa because I'm not flexible enough.

It is good question, if I can dance, not for me to judge it, but in my opinion there is a relationship the more I drink alkohol the better I dance. After watching your videos about salsa I think it looks great, maybe one day I will move my bottom and practise dancing skills.

I have never trained any particular dancing style. Videos that you provided are pleasant to watch, they are so full of energy. Maybe I will try it out one day.

I attend salsa classes for two months and I really like it. I go to Line Salsa but over time I can also try other styles like Cubana. It's really energizing dance. I'm just at a basic level, but I hope that I can continue to attend classes even though that by working and studying I have lack of time. In my opinion salsa is a dance for everyone, with me go on the course, people of various age groups and everyone have a lot of fun. I think that salsa is the dance style through which you can feel free. I know that for those who know how to dance salsa takes a little event but unfortunately I haven't had a chance yet to be any.
I like to dance, but I haven't attended to any dance classes yet. Some time ago I attended two week long dance course and I enjoyed it a lot, but it was too much in too little time. Can you tell me how often do you attend the classes and how much time single training takes?

Great choice of subject!
I love salsa, for me it has the most natural, very intuitive rhythm, thus it's one of the easiest dances in my opinion. I'm not practicing any dance since last year, I really miss it, however now when it's my last year of studies and while working I hardly have free time.
Earlier I attended many different kinds of dance classes, firstly there was contemporary dance when I was 13, then came ballroom dancing, latino solo, classical dance(with a figures from ballet), jazz dance, pole dance and finally my favourite ones: bachata, zumba and salsa, which gives you so much positive energy that they're totally addictive.

I don't really like to dance, although I used to train hip hop dance when I was younger. It wasn't for a long time, but I enjoyed it. After some time I just thought...This is not the best what I can do in my free time. That I would like to try something else.
Yeah salsa is great and for everyone :D
I also have a lack of time but I try my best to go minimum once a week for salsa classes, it recharges my batteries. ;)
There are a lot of salsa events in Warsaw and I think you should definitely try them out. :)
Last thing, what salsa school do you attend?^^
It is not so easy at all ;)
I also tried many dance styles, like: hip hop, dancehall, house and also more traditional like tango or quickstep.
For me the most attractive are salsa and hip hop. When I dance them I feel free and relaxed :)

Everybody can dance:) If you mean salsa it looks great, I like it because it expresses a lot of energy like any dance style with a Latin American origin.

I like watching salsa dancers. It is nice to watch - smooth moves, hip movement, how hands are working. I enjoy watching people dancing salsa, even though I have never knew that there are different types of it, but now I hope I will spot the difference. I like that this is so lively.

I have never danced in my life and I didn't feel the need to learn how to dance. The only experience I had is with salsa music. I had to learn different music styles to play in the school musical. I really like this type of dance. Salsa is a very energetic dance. When I was young I really wanted to learn breakdance. Each passion with motion is very good for you. In the future I will learn how to dance before the wedding and It would probably be my only adventure with dancing.

Very interesting article, I enjoyed it a lot, I don't dance myself definitely not professionally only amateur dancing in my case. I mainly dance free style because it suits me well. I think salsa is very interesting but I heard to start dancing salsa you have to have a pare with you to actually learn something. I can't say if I like salsa because I don't have any experience with it.

When I was a teenager I had some kind of a fear of dancing. The fear of expressing your emotions with your body. The fear of feeling music with your body. Probably I was afraid to be judged by other teenagers.
It has changed when I was living in Dublin for some time. There I felt in love with a techno music even more. We were going to clubs almost every night with my friend Fergus(who was a drug killer back then). There I started to understand the sense of dance. Why do we dance? What it gives to you? Why shouldn’t you be shy of doing it? I personally dance to feel the music better. To have a strong bond with the beat. What I love in dancing on techno and trance parties is that people dance there the only solo. Nobody dances in pairs. And suddenly by reading this article I understood that I should try salsa. I should try to experience the feeling of music with a partner. I should just go for it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Shame on me that I havent tried Salsa yet. It would be great to have dancing lessions at school during PE classes, so everyone would try it. For now- I'll keep my newbie skill at dancing :D

As a typical IT student, i can say that i have lack of dance talent, and probably i'm completely hopeless in this matter :) I would love to at least try to learn some dance style. It looks like a enjoyable way to spend your time.

Unfortunately, and perhaps even better I do not dance, I can not, I have no sense of rhythm. But I think that dancing is a beautiful art, all the dancers have always admired and even envied their talent. Salsa is really pleasing style of dance, music, movement, and of course beautiful shapely women who hypnotize :)

To be honest I have no dancing skills. I feel that sometimes it’s problematic especially when I have to attend parties, weddings etc. But when I party with my friends I don’t care about it because they know that I’m not the best in dance moves. However, I must say that this ‘disadvantage’ many times turned the parties into fun and crazy dance competitions. Maybe it’s not the best thing to share but at least I can admit it !
My sister was a professional Latino dancer for many years. I always loved to watch her dancing. Tried many times to learn classic or very modern dancing styles with many of her friends - but Salsa is just way too much for me (sorry completely not my style). I feel very good about classic Tango or Pasodoble or even something crazier like Jive. But to be honest I love watching woman dancing Salsa - pure mind blowing experience.

I can't really tell you whether I can dance or not. It all depends on the amount of alcohol for me. I'd say that by default I can't really dance, but I can learn really fast :D Salsa seems nice, I generally like Latino rhythms.
Yeah it is very energetic and positive dance and I recommend it to try for everybody ;)
Yes it would be great to have some dancing lessons on PE classes for everybody to try it. :)
I mean not only the polonaise but all other dances for people to try :)
Everybody has something that suites them. :)
I have tried Tango or Jive but they didn't suite me at all. I think that is because I danced hip hop before and I have felt like frame was somehow limiting me.

Shame on me, but I am not a dancer:) I was not raised as a true girly girl, that is why I am more into gym and shooting. It doesn't mean that I am a tomboy, but I know I could try to attend the dance class and it would be good for me. Once I was visiting hip-hop class for a few weeks, also I attended the model school, where we had the dance lessons, but one day I decided that I'm fed up, and it was the end of my relationships with dancing:)

But I am so in love with music that I don't understand why I still haven't learned how to dance. Sure, sometimes I visit parties and I am not just standing in the corner - but this is club music, not valse or tango, or salsa.. Oh, I should go to the dance school one day. People in these videos are so inspiring..

There is no such thing as lack of talent ;)

I can't dance as well. When I'm really drunk I sometimes try to 'dance' but that's more or less chaotic movement. I'm happy that my girlfriend doesn't dance too so I don't feel any pressure to learn it. It's just not for me.

Whenever I see videos of people dancing Salsa (or any other dance) I feel like an alien life form. They are beautiful, smiling and full of energy. I don't even know how to correctly clap to a rhythm.
Overall, I like Salsa dance and I admire people who can dance. I liked the video with 'Cuban Salsa' much more. It looked so natural. There was a lot of happiness and freedom in this dance.
Of course you can easily see the differences between these styles, but I can't really point them out.

I have never tried salsa but I love to watch people dancing this style. Dance straight from the Caribbean is full of emotions and happiness, shows somehow our hidden desire of freedom. You have mentioned that Salsa is not only dance and I totally agree with that. Postive attitude of people like Cubans - whos life is not so easy - is showed by this dance. Salsa is kind of metaphor of Their life style.

I enjoy dancing and moreover I have tried dancing salsa with my fiance. We used to take salsa dancing classes in a salsa club while I was visiting her in Denmark. It has been a lot of fun and what I like about it is that it is a very positive type of dancing. It is passionate and also very open to new moves. To me the most fun part of it was that we were being taught by real Cubans, so we could feel that this dance is like a mother tongue to them. I would recommend it to anybody who would like to do something original which brings a lot of positiveness.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
