Week12[15.06-21.06] Did you know that you can build houses from hemp?

Did you know that you can build houses from hemp?
Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa sativa L.) it’s not Marijuana (Cannabis sativa indica) Both come from one and the same plant, but industrial hemp is deprived of THC (illegal substance in many countries).
In the world, cannabis sativa species with a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of less than 1% are considered industrial hemp.
Polish standards are even more stringent and allow the cultivation of so-called "hemp" containing less than 0.20% THC.
Industrial hemp has many uses, including in construction - Hempcrete or hemplime is biocomposite material, a mixture of hemp hurds (shives) and lime, sand, or pozzolans, which is used as a material for building houses.
Yes! You can build a house from hemp, please watch the presentation: and anwser the questions:
  1. Would you live in a hemp house?what are the benefits of hemp house?
  2. Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
  3. Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?

1. Would you live in a hemp house?what are the benefits of hemp house?
I think I would rather prefer a traditional house building technology over the hemp, but I find it really interesting that it's even possible to do such a things with a hemp. For sure it's ecological so friendly to the environment and if this would be so strong in the future as the traditional walls that why not.

2. Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I knew about some medical hemp but didn't know that everyone could grow on their own with some permissions. I could definitely consiter it if it's a profitable business as I have a really large plot behind the house.

3. Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
I only know about clothes but it was also mentioned in the video so I don't know if it counts. Besides that I don't really know any other usages but maybe I should do some research about the topic.
1. I don’t know if i would like to live in hemp house. i would have to try it first. The benefits are low environmental pollution, good, breathable isolation, low toxicity and a whole lot more that were said in the video, but there were no list of disadvantages of this solution and i don’t know what to think about it.
2. I knew that industrial hemp is legal to grow but medical isn’t. Would you grow this plant? I don’t know if i would get the permission in the first place.
3. Other uses i know is textile, it can be used in cooking, cosmetics and that’s all i know. I have heard lots of reason why it is a better substitute for many products but i have never heard any downsides of it.

I would like to live in a hemp house as this green building processed hemp stands
out for its important ecological and economic characteristics. The advantages of such a building is that it always warm there and it is a great sound insulation material, it also preserves a high level of breath-ability, It is resistant against mold.
Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I didn`t know about that, however I don`t think I would grow it. I am not someone really keen on gardening.
Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
From the point of view of its contribution to local economies, it is important to note that hemp can be also used to produce a wide range of other useful products, such as: paper, fabric, seeds, oil, plastics, and fuel. Hemp seeds are very high in protein and are widely used in the food sector.

1. Would you live in a hemp house?what are the benefits of hemp house?
After watching that video I still don;t have enough information to decide. I don't know anything about this `hemp` material and would rather investigate the topic to check a few factors like waterproof or shock resistance etc.

2. Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I knew that. Interesting fact, really. I wouldn't grow it as I don;t need it.

3. Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
I'm not really into that topic so don't know any other uses of industrial hemp. I' not sure but maybe it is used to produce clothes or for cooking.
1) I would have to make research myself of what are the consequences
(both positive and negative) of living in a house from such material. I am wondering about how it is resistant to fire and what are the costs of building such a house. If the costs are way bigger, I don't think that it is a good idea for now. But if the costs will become similar, why not.

2) I have absolutely no idea about growing plants, but it can be a good idea for a business if this technology becomes more popular here, in Poland, but also in other countries in Europe, because that is where we will probably export it.

3) No, I have not heard about industrial hemp before. I will have to ask my friend who is interesting in construction Engineering because he might have already learned about it, or maybe even used hemp in practice.
1. I am fond of ecological substitutes in all forms. The idea wasn't well explained in the video, I'm not sure if hemp acts as sand in a concrete solution or it binds the components together. Either way, the idea of using hemp, which is used also to build strong ropes, seems to be a good and eco-friendly idea. I would have to know more about it to advocate it but I definitely wouldn't mind having hemp-based walls in my own house.

2. Yes, I did know this. Hemp is widely used in various products. It is a strong material and because of one of the specimen, it is a tabu, which is just stupid. Did you know that poppy plants can be used to produce opioids? I don't see many protesters around bakeries that sprinkle their buns with poppy seeds.

3. I know it can be used in the production of ropes and clothing, but for now, I cannot think of any other uses. Nevertheless, I'm sure there are many.
Would you live in a hemp house?what are the benefits of hemp house?
Yes, I think that i could live in a hemp house, the most valuable benefit for me is low toxicity. However someone would have to provide me with specialist tests that such solutions are good.

Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I didn't know about that, but I don't think I can grow so much to build a house, maybe for health benefits.

Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
I tested shampoo, and I liked it very much. It could have been better than normal shampoo because it was all made from natural product.

1. I'd love to try it first. There's a lot of benefits, but this video doesn't show much disadvantages so, I'm not quite sure abou this solution. Of course it could be more eco-friendly.

2. I didn't know about this

3. I've heard about cosmetics with hemp and hemp oil in general, but I've never tested any of the products with industrial hemp. Maybe from the marketing perspective it's beneficial to use 'hemp' in the product's name?
After some reflection, I don't think I would like to live in a hemp house. I think this is poor material. Yes, I knew that hemp was legal in Poland (but only industrial). Sometimes they say in the news that someone did not have a permit, and for example a neighbor had. I don't need to grow hemp / If I associate well, then ropes are made of hemp.

I wouldn't want to live in a hemp house. I think I trust normal houses more. But it's very interesting and I've never heard of it.

I had no idea that industrial hemp in Poland is legal, but I've never been into the subject. I don't grow any plants, so that's probably why.

I don't know any other uses of hemp.

It is really interesting, but I think I won't live in a hemp house before knowing the impact of living in such a house on my body.

2. Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
Yes, I have heard about it, sometimes it is even used as a cure for cancer in some other country. I don't think I will grow it.

3. Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
Medical use is the only one I know, it is my first time to know that industrial hemp can be used to build houses, this surprises me.
Hello, here are my answers to your questions.

1. As much as I like the idea of eco friendly housing, I think I'd rather live in a traditional house. I really like the concept of it and I hope it will gain popularity though.

2. I did not know this, but I've never been interested in hemp and heard nothing about the subject of it being legal to grow in Poland. I also am not big of a fan of gardening and taking care of plantations, so I don't think I will attempt to grow it.

3. I believe that you can make a fiber out of industrial hemp, but I am not sure. Outside of that, I have no idea on uses of that plant. As such, I can't really answer the second part of question.

1. Well as it sounds really interesting and has many benefits such as breathable walls and grate isolation, I would be aware that it is not really solid material in case of a float or heavy winter so I would prefer traditional building.
2. Not really.
3. I have never heard of industrial hemp before, so I don’t know any other uses of it.
1. Would you live in a hemp house? What are the benefits of hemp house?
If I had to I would live in a hemp house, but it wouldn’t be my first choice I was to build my house. I think that I would build it from “traditional” materials. I’m sure that hemp houses are more eco-friendly, but I'm not sure if they are any better than wooden ones.

2. Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I did know that growing industrial hemp is legal in Poland, but it’s not as easy as “getting the permission”, there are a lot of regulations, starting with you have to have someone who is willing to buy it from you and has permission to process it, before you ask for your permission for growing it.

3. Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
Industrial hemp is used in cosmetics, textile industry and probably many other places. It can be better than for example cotton, because it can be grown in colder climate, and doesn’t need as much water as cotton.

1. I think I could live, but I'm not entirely convinced of permanence. The big advantage is definitely ecology and the fact that breeding would give additional jobs.
2. I knew that industrial hemp was legal. Growing plants has never been my strength so it's probably not for me
3. I heard that you can make clothes that are very durable, in addition, hemp dye can be used for painting, but I'm not sure
1.Would you live in a hemp house?what are the benefits of hemp house?
I don't know what it would look like, but I'm wondering what would happen like a roof would burn on me :)

2.Did you know that industrial hemp in Poland is legal and you only need permission to grow it? Would you grow this plant?
I didn't know about it :)

Do you know any other uses of industrial hemp? How can it be better than competing products?
I always thought that it was used in the production of clothes and medicines, I had no idea what else

In Poland, the cultivation of industrial hemp was widespread. The war of the duPont corporation with this competitive material, and then hooking industrial hemp with drugs and even outlawing it in the USA, caused a decrease in production also in our country. Around the word people can now see profit from industrial hemp cultivation.

This material is not currently popular in Poland, so I suspect it can be quite expensive. And if it is expensive it will not be popular. And we have a closed circle :)

This is some example of hemp products:
Sunglasses and Ski Goggles.
Paper Products.
Hemp Composites for Automobiles.
Hemp Food.
Hemp Building Materials.
Hemp Nanomaterials.

It should also be pointed out that the advantage of hemp-based building material is that it has a negative carbon footprint. which is very important for environmental protection.

Yes.Currently, there are a lot of new CBD-containing cosmetics on the market, such as face creams and shampoos.

This plant gives high yields of 10 tonnes per acre in four months. They contain 80% cellulose. With hemp, you can make for example paper but also cellulose gasoline. Which can also be helpful in protecting the environment.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
