Week 12. [15.06-21.06] The art of cosplay

Cosplay (stands for costume play) is a kind of performance art, where people dress as characters from pop-culture sources such as comic books, movies, video games, etc. Is it just wearing a costume bought on eBay or there is something more about it?

Questions:
  1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplayIf you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
  2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
  3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?

Cosplay is great fun for both children and adults. Teaches creativity and other sewing-type skills. I think it's a great hobby, provided that you make your own outfit instead of buying it ready. I've never liked dressing up or performing, so I don't want to dress up and participate in cosplay, I'd rather go there and admire the work of others.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I think that a good cosplay is not just about the costume. You should start imitating it, as Adam said to be as close as possible to the character you are dressed up. I completely agree with him.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I always wanted to dress up as Morticia Addams, when I was a child I loved this movie, especially the character Morticia.

1. I think it's a great way to meet other people or spend time with friends. Despite this, I have never had the opportunity to participate in such an event, if it succeeds - I will be very motivated to create something amazing.

2. Definitely not all. When we think of a character, we have a picture not only of his appearance, but above all of his behavior - how he moves, what characteristic movements he has, what his attributes are etc.

3. I have many ideas but above all I would like to be Hinata from Naruto. I really like recreating the image of anime characters and I think that my body build suits such characters.

Recently we can hear more and more loudly about cosplayers, i.e. people who dress up as different characters from anime stories, comics, films and games. There are more and more rallies organized in the world, bringing together this group of fanatics. But I wouldn't want to. I see no reason to change. This is embarrassing to me. It's only funny for people who entertain themselves into it.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?

Cosplayers are playing into characters that have some superpowers. I don't think these powers have been passed on to cosplayers. In this context, I find it even more embarrassing, as I imagine, when an adult pretends to be a sorcerer and pretends to cast spells.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
No

1. Personally, I am not a fan of a cosplay myself and I would probably never try it out, but on the other hand I do consider it as some form of art. People that take cosplaying seriously are clearly devoted to creating as realistic and well prepared “costume” as possible and it is impressive as hell! It surely requires a lot of money, effort and skill to do it properly, so I guess I will always look at the whole idea of cosplays as something impressive, but simply not for me.

2. I think that Adam’s way of thinking is reasonable. I think that cosplay is not only about gathering up a bunch of clothes and accessories. It seems to me that these people take a lot of time to think through what they should wear or do based on the characteristics of the character they are planning to cosplay. It definitely also adds more fun and satisfaction to the finished project.

3. I don’t think I would cosplay anyone. It’s just something that I’m not interested in, so it’s even hard for me to come up with an idea. Maybe … someone from the Harry Potter universe?

Some cosplays are really amazing and you can see that the person had invested a lot of work to create something like that. Unfortunately there is a lot of weird people in this community and even though they have talent, they are really hard to bear. I would not want to try cosplay myself. This is not my thing.

I think that you have to make a lot of effort and commitment to create something unique and beautifule that people would apprecialte. Unfortunately many people try to be the person that they are disguised as and they try to be that person, say the lines in their voide, make spells of a character or use some weapon and so on. I think that its a lot of cringe and I can't bear this type of behavior. Especially when a person is older.

I don't really think I would cosplay anyone.
What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?

I am not deep into it but I have a few friends that are really into that. I don't have opinion about it. It can be cool I think

Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?

Well it is really more enjoyable when you are creating your own narrative instead of just wearing costume of your favorite character

If you could cosplay any character what would that be?

I don't know, perhaps some of character from games like League of Legends

Personally I don't know how evaluate cosplay of other person in visual way.
I've been cosplaying for 7 years and mostly I look up for technicalities in other cosplayers suit.

Thank for your reply.

I would like to encourage you on going on some convention. It's place not only for cosplayers and fans of cosplays. There are a lot of attractions for not cosplayers, a lot of board games and other activities.

Personally I've been attending "rallies bringing together this group fanatics" for 7 years straight. I think generalizing people based on narrow view is bad.
My main cosplay is Altair from Assassin's Creed. This character got no superpower his element of awesomeness is that his parkour, climbing, fighting skills are possible to train. Maybe I am not fully skilled Altair but I focus on being trained enough to call myself assassin.
I know that you would consider me as fanatic and nolife :) I don't care.

I agree with you that some people are weird in widely known fandom. Attending cons don't require to meet all of them. You can have fun with your closest friends and don't talk to weirdos.

I think that it's not cringe until you are doing this in wrong group of people.
It's fun until everybody around you have fun.

Crafting costume does not that much money as you think. You can make pretty decent costume out of scratch and things that people consider trash.
There is technique called scratch modelling, it requires you to use old items and give them new life as part of outfit.

Good cosplayer always learns how to be the character he plays. I know many cosplayers who are doing this wrong. They make amazing costumes but they play like a log, no emotions, like photomodels.

I know personally and follow many cosplayers out there, it is an interesting form of art.
Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
Yes, in fact there is a problem with modern cosplay that many cosplayers do not even craft themselves, but just put on an onesie and call that a cosplay. It is not, a backstory and thought required to craft an image.
If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
Hard to pick one certain.
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
In my opinion it is quite interesting when people love some character. They can spend time and enjoy it with friends. I didn't try to do this before. I can't say that definitely i will try but if there will be some special occasion maybe i will do it.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I think for me just wear a costume and have fun would be enough.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
It depends of party maybe it could be some hero from game like league of legends or maybe from movie... I don't know it is hard to pick one right now.
1. I have a neutral approach to the idea of cosplay. I've never done it, I'm not going to do it. However, I can see that cosplay has a lot of fans.

2. I have opinions that it all depends on the person who puts on the costume. There are people who just put on a costume and play with it, they behave normally. However, there are also people who train their cosplay, create their interpretation, imitate the behavior of the characters. One of these people is Adam.

3. As I said earlier, I have a neutral approach to this. Rather, I am not going to dress up as someone, although maybe someday when I will have my own children, I will have to dress up as Santa Claus :)

1. What do you think about the whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I think that the whole idea of cosplay is very interesting, as it is the way to try yourself in being your favourite character, some superhero or wizard. And yes, I would like to take part in some cosplay festival, it will be fascinating.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I liked Adam`s story about cosplaying No-Face. Yeah, I think that creating own narrative is a perfect and cool addition to the costume. This performance will be remarkable for you and other partisipants.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I was thinking about this question for a couple of minutes and I have coosen Star Wars Baby Yoda from the television series The Mandalorian. I loved it while watching the series. He is extremely cute.

1. What do you think about the whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?

I haven't cosplayed yet but it has been always part of my wishes. And I'm dreaming of San-Diego Comiccon. At the moment I will have enough money for this journey - I will go there. But I have heard also that it is quite complicated to buy the ticket just because there is also a soldout after a couple of minutes.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating their own narrative?

It depends on the atmosphere of the event but of course, it's better to know all you can about the universe of your character and as much as you want about others cause it will make their own cosplay more rememberable.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?

A lot of different ideas, but I'd like to create a group cosplay so something like Assassin's Brotherhood would be great. Or guys from Magicka. Star Wars Stormtroopers? Long list.
What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?

I am not a big fan of it to be honest... I find it silly. The same thing goes to dressing up for costume parties or halloween. I don't know why but I really don't get it. Dressing as someone else might be funny but making it a serious thing? I just don't get it.

Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?

I don't think that wearing a costume is enough. I think it's too much xd. Jokes aside it's hard for my to address this question while I don't get the idea witho r without the narrative. Of course any task when it's given a personal twist might become more valuable. That's the way to enhance to experience for sure.

If you could cosplay any character what would that be?

I am not into such things and I can't imagine myself in one of those costumes. I mean, I can, I just don't want to. If I were to do it I would probably do it in fornt of my friends just for fun.
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I think cosplay is an interesting hobby. We can change our look to looks like a hero eg. from anime or from films. It’s cost a lot of time to create a good costume but it’s worth our work. I was with my friend on PGA. I have some pictures with "heros". I didn't cosplay but maybe in nearest future I will try.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I think wearing costume is not enough. We need to empathize with our hero. We need to play and say as our hero. When we wear costume we are hero. Playing a role is very important. I think Adam’s idea is great. He give something from himself to hero he try to play.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
It’s a heavy question because I saw a lot of anime and have many characters that I love. Maybe I would cosplay Dark Magician from the series Yo-Gi-Oh! I love magic and in games I always choose a magician character.
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I think it is a hobby like many others. I would definitely don’t want to try it, I know it is not for me. I don’t enjoy things like that. On the other hand I admire people who take part in it for serious because they have to be well prepared and make their costumes perfect, it has to be hard finding every detail and make it real.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
Probably it depends on what is our target, for me it is enough to wear a costume, but for others it may be not enough. Creating own narrative is really interesting, but as I said before it is not my story, I don’t know anything about it.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I I have to I would probably want to cosplay some super hero for movie. For example Batman or Iron man, but I would not want to try it if I didn’t have to.
1. I like all nerdish communities that take time to do something they are passionate about. Doesn't matter if it is a train building, figure painting or cosplay, I like them all and I adore the consistency of work they put into it. I have never cosplay per se, however, I did make some costumes for Halloween for myself. They don't mean to capture a known character, they were more of my own creations.

2. I had no idea Adam was into cosplay but the way he tells about is captivating and I cannot help but wanna go to ComicCon with my own costume now. I have been on such happenings in Warsaw and they indeed stay in a character. I met a Lord Vader once and he even had practised the voice and had some scary lines memorised so the whole experience felt so true.

3. When I was a kid I begged my mom for a costume of Scooby-Doo, but, as Adam said, it was different times, I couldn't even get brown leggings... My dream never came true, so if I would have to pick I would be Scooby-Doo :)
1. To be honest, I don’t really care. If some people like it, I am happy that they have fun, but personally I totally don’t understand this, it’s too childish for me. I obviously haven’t ever done cosplay and I wouldn’t like to give it a try, because it totally doesn’t fit my personality. I’d just feel embarrassed and nothing more.

2. It enriches the overall performance for sure. I assume that those people don’t do this just to make a couple of photos – that would be boring and possibly meaningless.

3. If I was forced to do so, I’d like it to be some badass character, like Darth Vader for example. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad person, but just intimidating. Batman would be fine as well.

1. I think that the idea of cosplay Is kinda fun and definitely very creative. I haven’t had the opportunity yet but one day why not I could give it a try.
2. Well for me it would be enough of just wearing a costume, but I see why people want to create their own narrative to it.
3. Catwoman for sure.

1. It's so nice to see that somebody is soo passionate about something and all this effort that has to be taken into cosidaration during planning to do some good cosplay. It's adorable.

2. It depends on the goal I guess? Cosplaying just for pics to post on social media - just wear a costume and itll be fine. Cosplay for idk meetings or somethin - narration is a good idea.

3. That's hard to answer, maybe Tier from Bleach or Meg from Hercules
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
Looks like fun if it's well done. I have never done any cosplay and I don't think I will try at last at this moment but maybe if I would start going to such events, then maybe I would change my mind
2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
It is enough to just wear a costume but if you want to shine and you also want other people to admire you it’s a good idea to create your own narrative
3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I never thought about that but if I could cosplay as any character then maybe I would choose… well maybe one of the Jedi their costumes look comfortable and easy to put on, at least the human ones
1 / Cosplay is a very interesting movement and type of art. I really like cosplay, but I have never tried it. But often I support other guys who do this.

2 / I believe that everyone considers cosplay as he likes. But for me it is not only a costume but also a full-fledged image.

3 / I have not thought deeply about this yet, but it would be interesting for me to take the cosplay Zatanna Zatara from the DC Comics universe for my first experience.

I never did and I probably never will. Dressing up and being in the spotlight is not my type of thing.
Creating a costume for someone else sounds more interesting but I haven't done and hand-work in my life. That would be a long journey if i ever give it a try.

What do I think about cosplay? I think it's a fully legitimate branch of art, no doubts. There is a field for artistic expression, there is skill included and there is need in the audience for more work. I hope best for all cosplayers! <3

No, I don't think so. If you just wear a costume are you a.. model? Is cosplaying just a neat combination of acting + modeling? I agree with Adam's theorem :)
If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
My first thought was the Tracer from Overwatch universe, but just having this image of me (full beard, overweight :D) guy, dressed as a slim, short, very feminine character is just too ridiculous. In a creepy way. Maybe winston from the same universe? He would be fun :)

Hello, here are my replies to your questions!

1. I absolutely love the whole idea of cosplay. And it has been my dream for a long time to give it a try, but I don't think I'm good enough at sewing to create my own costumes and I'm also not attractive enough to cosplay beautiful female characters, ha ha. But maybe dressing up as the Faceless God is something for me. ;)

2. I think that it should be done mostly for fun and it should be up to people to decide if they only want to dress up or do something more with their cosplays. Still, Adam’s idea of creating own narrative sounds fun but everyone should have a choice if they want to do that or not.

3. I'd cosplay Lucifer the CEO of Hell from the game "Helltaker". She's my favourite demon and I just love dressing up in business suits. Ah, but I guess I will never become a real demon girl and that's a shame.

Cosplay is very creative form of activity and it is also some kind of art. It takes a lot to prepare perfect costume, wig, make up and also get in character. I don't think I would give it a try but I think most of cosplayers do a great job.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I don't think it's enough to wear a costume. As I said cosplay is a form of art and play, without it, it would be just a "costume". You have to get to know character you are cosplaying, their personality, way of speaking and so on.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I don't think I would like to cosplay, but if I have to choose, I would maybe cosplay some character from anime Dragon Ball since I enjoy these series a lot.

1.It can be fun if it makes someone happy. I don't really mind it but I wouldn't do it. I do have some respect for people doing cosplays because their costumes can be crazy good and thought through. They put so much work into it and attention to detail. It's impressive.

2.I think it is enough to just wear a costume but it's probably more legit if you really go into the character and have your own take on it.

3.The only cosplay worth doing for me would be Cher. I would laugh so much whilst "being in her body". That would be a great memory to look back on :D Maybe I should do it for Halloween? ( also does celebrating Halloween count as cosplaying?)

1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I have no problem with cosplay. I think if people want to dress up as their favorite game or movie characters, let them do it. Everything is for people. But I've never participated in such an event and I don't think I've ever participated because I'm not a fan. But the general idea is cool.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
I honestly have no idea if wearing a costume is enough. I don't know much about it, but from what I can tell, I guess that's it. Adam's idea is certainly interesting and quite original, after all, why not try something new.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
If I had to dress up and participate in a cosplay, it would be Vader. I just like Star Wars and I've admired this character since I was a kid.
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I like the idea of cosplay, everybody of us wants to be on the place of his favorite character and cosplay allows to feel it. I would like to try it.
2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
Of course, just wearing a costume isn't enough, you need to be as close to your character as it possible, move like him, talk like him, react like him.
3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
I would like to cosplay Ciri from The Witcher and Tomoe from Nice to Meet You, Kami-sama. They are my favorite characters.
1. What do you think about whole idea of cosplay? If you didn’t cosplay would you like to give it a try?
I think it's a woderful idea for fans and great hobby. It is nice chance to learn DIY and perform a little bit. I have always wanted to try cosplay, but I've never been good at it, so at the end I just gave up.

2. Is it enough to just wear a costume? What do you feel about Adam’s idea of creating own narrative?
A lot of people just want to look like their favourite character and this is ok, but some people want to feel this character, so they try to be like them, perform their behavior and this is really great. Once I met wonderful cosplay of Capitain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean and he was amazing and everyone could feel that this person not only looks like Jack Sparrow, but he also IS Jack Sparrow.

3. If you could cosplay any character what would that be?
Well, it is a difficult question. I have always wanted to try to cosplay Haku from Spirited Away and Itachi Uchiha and Deidara from Naruto.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
