Week 7 [25.11 - 01.12.2019] #teamtrees

We all have probably heard about Mr Beast, american YouTuber and philanthropist, known for giving away money in his videos. It may sound like an attention-grabbing stunts, which essentially it is, but if you look closer, you’ll notice that most of the times, especially lately, he’s giving away money for good causes: he donated to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, Veterans Army Wounded Warrior Program, homeless shelters, animal shelters and just a random people who struggle to make ends meet.
So what could be the better way to celebrate reaching 20 million subscribers on Mr Beast’s channel than make the biggest charity project in his whole career? That’s how Mr Beast and Mark Rober, another famous YouTuber, former NASA engineer, decided to plant 20 million trees. Pretty big, huh?

The history of Team Trees started on October 25, 2019, when Jimmy Donaldson (Mr Beast’s real name) uploaded a video on his chanel where he planted 300 trees together with his team and Mark Rober. They invited a “tree planting expert” to check if they’ve planted them correctly, they’ve been talking to trees to help them grow faster but that wasn’t enough to get to 20 million. They’ve asked more people to help and did a really good job together planting another 1400. Still not 20 million, unfortunately, so they decided to ask the whole world to help!

Jimmy and Mark partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, which is nonprofit organisation dedicated to, basically, tree planting :) The foundation proposed to plant one tree for every one dollar donated. Arbor Day Foundation pays close attention to survivability of trees, that’s why those 20 million trees will be planted during next three years. Their motto is “to plant the right trees, in the right place, at the right time, for the right reasons”.

We all, for sure, can appreciate this initiative, especially in light of this year’s increase in forest fires. Importance of trees is undeniable, because not only they sequester carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, but they also help to maintain local water cycles, cleans the soil and help to buffer storms. Trees also reduce air temperature through blocking the sunlight, and can reduce a street noise level, so a bigger amount of trees will actually help us to feel better in the summer in a big city!

Lots of celebrities, YouTubers and entrepreneurs also appreciated the movement and in less than a month project raised more than $16 million! The second biggest donation was made by Elon Musk ($1 million), who’s changed his profile picture on Twitter to a tree and his username to “Treelon” after donating, which seems to had inspired the third biggest donation, which were made by Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce ($900000). And the first biggest donation, which is actually only 1 dollar higher than Musk’s donation (but technically he’s still a winner ;)), was made by Tobias Lütke, CEO of Shopify, with the commentary “For the Lorax” (Lorax is a character from children’s book, who “speaks for the trees”).

Znalezione obrazy dla zapytania treelon musk
Big donations were also made by Jack Dorsey (CEO of Twitter), Susan Wojcicki (CEO of YouTube), Jean-Michel Lemieux (CTO of Shopify), Alan Walker (DJ and record producer), Verizon Green Team (team of telecommunications company Verizon), PewDiePie (YouTuber) and the Mr Beast and Mark Rober themselves. A lot of Internet users also helped to spread the information about this campaign, creating memes and using hashtag #teamtrees.

Anyway, Mr Beast seems to win a lot by starting the Team Trees campaign, as his YouTube channel subscriber count is 26 million now and growing fast.

  1. Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favourite one or the one that you remember the best?
  2. What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?

No, I've never heard of the guy.

What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
In my opinion it doesn't really matter which one is it. Sure - he'll get more 'followers' etc. but at the end of the day the awareness about it will spread and donations will come for this cause.

Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
No, I've never donated to any charity organisation.

1. Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favorite one or the one that you remember the best?
Unfortunately, I've never watched the movie Mr Beast before.

2. What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it's a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
I think team trees are an interesting initiative. In the beginning it could have been simply an advertising feat, but I think that in the future it will be a real attempt to help.

3. Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organization?
No, I have never made a donation to team trees. I am making a donation to charity activities related to children.
1. No, I've never watched any of his videos, only heard about him couple of times.

2. Team Trees are very humble action, I like what he is trying to achieve. If it comes to the "stunt or a genuine attempt" part I believe it's both, thanks to gaining more publicity he is able to do more charities like that so in the end it's good publicity for a good cause.

3. I did not pay money for the team trees action, but I do pay a monthly contribution to another charity.

2- What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
Ofc it's a publicity stunt, sometimes you spend the same amonth of money in different forms of ads.
3- Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
Yes I have donated international and local non-profit charities, sharing is caring.

I think always public actions that are charitable are good. If a charity case gets more publicity, the more good can be done.

Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
I have never transferred money to this institution or any other environmental organisation. I try to support hospices, elder or sick people etc.

Sure, I agree, it doesn't matter if he did it to gain views and followers or in genuine attempt to help - important thing is that he's helping!

It's so nice of you! I'm also sometimes donating to seriously ill children. Unfortunately, very often there's nobody here to help them but just random people like you. Way to go!
Anna Moskalenko said…
Which charity is that?
I like ShareTheMeal initiative, it has an app where you can donate few meals to people from poor countries and it's very well made: there's teams you can join, they gave a possibility to sign up to monthly donations etc.

"Sharing is caring" - I love that! That's exactly how everybody should look not only on charities, but on life generally. Thank you for that!
Anna Moskalenko said…
Sure, you're right. Mr Beast made it public and viral; donations has comments so they are the place for jokes and memes, a lot of people are donating just "to write a funny message" but whatever, they're donating and that's what counts!

I have heard about Mr Beats a long time ago as a rich man who does cool things in movies. The first movie I watched and was remembered was the one about planting millions of trees. Amazing action that will bring a lot of good for our world: D
It seems to me that Mr Beats did this with trees to help the world and gain new viewers.
Several times in my life I have supported charity organizations, e.g. a pajacyk.pl, meals for the homeless etc. When someone on the street asks me for help or money, I help too often :)
Let's help people and good will come back to us!
1. I'm not a big fan of YouTubers and their sense of humor, however, I heard about Mr Beast and the campaign form other sources.

2. It doesn't matter to me. Either way, he is doing good and encourage people to help the planet. Even if he was the devil himself he has my approval! People, in general, don't care about important issues (such as the state of their only planet to live on). If it takes a celebrity to inspire them, I say let him.

3. Yes :) I was even a volunteer at WOŚP for few years.

2. I think Mr Beast didn't realize that his project would develop on such a large scale. I hope he spends money on a just cause and it's not a publicity stunt.

3. No, I've never donated for charity organisation.

I've never watched his videos as it's not my type of content but I've heard of this initiative and about him and I really like the idea.

2. What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
I think it's an attempt to help and I would believe them. It's really good that Mr. Beast encourages people to do good things and with his ranges they can do a lot. In the end, his aim doesn't matter much, the most important thing is that he raises awareness of the problem.

3. Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
I give a food for animals in a nearby animal shelter from time to time :)

I have watched some of his videos. I don't remember a lot of them but I recall the one where he bought a house for a guy that was kicked out from his own house or something like that. I don't like his videos because they are a little but childish but I heard about #teamtrees and I think it's really nice that he wants to make other youtubers join. I think its genuine attempt to help and make something good for our planet, the other thing is that it shares the message so more people will think about planet changes. I didn't donate for team trees but I donated for some other organizations that were mentioned by Casey Neistat.

1. I've never seen Mr. Beast's movies before, so thanks for sharing this channel with me. I think that his videos are excellent, because they raise very important subject - the enviroment. Taking into consideration that people devastate enviroment everyday I think that such videos make us aware.

2. In my opinion this projekt is great way to fight with deforestation and to make people aware of the fact that trees enrich human life, because trees not only produce oxygen but also improve air quality, protect wildlife or conserve water. Moreover I think that youtubers treat it as good way to get followers and make their channel more popular. To sum up I think that Team Trees is admirable project and I'm willing to support it.

3. Every year I donate for WOŚP, because I believe in their's ideas. I really appreciate that they support and improve Polish public health care.
1. No, I have not. I only learn about this guy from memes after he started the 20 milion trees action.

2. I believe it is a public stunt based on good cause. Even if he does it only for fame, the results should be positive.

3. I have not donated to Team Trees. The only charity I have ever donated was WOŚP.
Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favourite one or the one that you remember the best?
I havent seen any of his videos.

What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
Maybe it is a publicity stunt i considere it as genuine attempt to help.

Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
I havent. I have heard about the movment but i didnt donate any money to it.
Anna Moskalenko said…
You're absolutely right, I admire your perspective of life! The good indeed is always coming back.

Volunteering is a great way to help! People often think that if they don't have much money to donate than there's no other way to help and it's not true. Good for you!
Anna Moskalenko said…
There's information on the teamtrees website when it's stated that all the donated money goes straight to the Arbor Day Foundation, so we can be sure that the good thing will be done!
Anna Moskalenko said…
Yeah, I also think that he's trying to help. There's a lot of ways to gain views and followers and he chose the decent and noble one.
Anna Moskalenko said…
I mean, it's great that a lot of influencers nowadays uses their influence for a great cause, right?
Mr Beast's videos indeed are a bit childish, I can't deny that, but he just turned 21 few months ago, so we can't blame him for that :)
Anna Moskalenko said…
Sure, spreading the awareness about important matters is a good thing to do. After #teamtrees movement gained popularity there were a lot of videos created to encourage people to plant trees by their houses and to explain why just a few trees planted could make a difference.
Anna Moskalenko said…
Right, the good result is what matters !
I watch every Mr Beast video he uploads on his youtube channel. I do not really have a favourite one but I like his idea of competition among his friends. Team Trees is actually confirmed to be legit but I do not like the "save the envoirment" thing. It is not as bad as activists claim it to be. Our planet handles it very good and climate changes are a normal things that already happend many times in the past. I only donated once to my teacher's crowfund for his cancer treatment but unfortunately he passed away.

1. Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favourite one or the one that you remember the best?

I've watched 1 of them, the viral one where he was starting to plant the first trees with his friends and later in the video with his subscribers from YouTube. So if that's the only one video I've watched I can easily estimate, that this is my favourite one. :p

2. What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?

I think that Team trees has a noble goal but to support the goal I don't think I will be donating any dollars to them. I will just go outside and plant a tree by my own hands, which I did a few times in my life without any YouTube impact.

3. Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?

No, I don't want to donate them money, and I am not going to. My reason is aforementioned in the second question. And I've donated some money in my life. I don't remember every organisation but for sure I donated to WOŚP(Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy) and for a child that needed some money for her treatment in hospital.
Kuba Berliński said…

1. Just a few. I think that first video from him I saw was donating huge money to streamers without many viewers and fame.

2. I think its a bit of both, but does it really matter? If people are going to do something good it doesn't matter to be whether it is from a need of doing something good or just getting attention. Afterall the result is the same.

3. No, I'm just a poor student who doesn't share the money he doesn't have.
Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favourite one or the one that you remember the best?

I’ve never watched Mr Beast’s videos. These days there is such number of youtubers that sometimes we don’t know that some exists. Now I will watch some of his videos and then decide should I hit “subscribe” button on his channel.

What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?

Team Trees is very young project and they are known for planting trees so I think that it’s too early to have some reasonable opinion. Saving our planet is one of hot topics nowadays. Those things are generating enormous amount of publicity and money. Many famous persons and organisations are involved. Personally I think it’s a stunt but it’s really helping our planet.

Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?

I’ve never donated to Team Trees but few times I donated to WWF. This organisation is helping endangered species. There is option to virtual adopt some animals. I have one of polish bobcats. As you donate, they are sending you some photos of your animal and they are giving you some facts about his life. If you don’t have or you can’t have animal in your home this kind of adoption is awesome.

1. Unfortunetly, I have never heard about Mr Beast. I am not following YouTube producers. Sometimes I watch some interesting movie, but I am not interested in the content which he represents. For example giving a house to somebody who hold the wall the longest. I think it is stupid.

2. In my opinion it is a publicity stunt with good move for helping our planet. There are a lot of advantages of actions like this. I think it is a great idea. I will propably support it.

3. No, but I will donate some money for Team Trees. As I said I like this idea. But I send money to organizations who helps children or disabled people.

1. I haven't seen any of his videos and even haven't heard about Mr Beast.

2. I think this is a good idea anyway. I know several similar organizations, for example, one of them raise donations to combat ocean pollution.

3. I haven't donated to Team Trees, but have done it for ICRC. Also, as a child, I donated some of my clothes and toys to orphanages several times.

No, I never watched his video and never even heard about him. Unfortunately.

If they have good intentions and really do what they raise money for, that is, plant trees, then what's the difference? The main thing is that regardless of the motives, the number of plantations is increasing.

Have you ever donated to Team Trees or any other charity organization?
No, i have never donated to any organizations. Yes, I know i have something to work on

I can say that saving our planet is a hot topic right now. In my opinion every action to do so is a step in the right direction.

No, I haven't donated for Team Trees yet, but action is promising so maybe I would.

1. Yes, I've heard about Mr Beast and even watched some of his films. Honestly, 95% of his films are impossible to watch and rejecting from his personality. Film type - "who will stand longer in the water will win 50 thousand" - seriously?
2. I think it's a very nice initiative. Instead of making stupid videos, youTubers are helping to repair the world.
3. No, I didn't support Mr Beast because I don't like him as a person. However, I often support charities mainly supporting animals.

I've never watched his movies so it's difficult for me to choose my favorite :D

What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?

I think that most of these initiatives are mainly about your own income. I don't want to accuse anyone but many charitable organizations turn out to be unreliable.

Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?

I never supported them financially. Sometimes I support individual charity actions when I know that they go directly to people. I avoid supporting environmental organizations such as WWF who paid remarkably high salaries for themselves.

1. Actually I have never watched this person before, but he definately got my attention the moment he raised this publicity stunt and thing went viral.
2. Whether it’s one way or another those trees are getting be planted. So as far as I’m concerned the reason for this is not so important. We, small ones, can take care for our planet throwing garbage in right cans, use less. However thanks to this man, planet will get new trees. What also important, subject is more and more popular, this event was a good thing in general.
3. I haven’t donated Team Trees, but sometimes I donate money for charity organisations. Sometimes people are in worse situation than me, it’s the only way I can help them.
1. I have never even heard of Mr Beast. This is my first time.

2. It's very hard to say. there are a lot of scams on the internet. But I firmly believe that there are real institutions that collect money to help our planet.

3. Yes, I once offered a donation to a cat shelter because I love them so much.

2) What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
I think it doesn't matter if it's a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help. The main and important thing, that this campaign is really helpful. Our planet will get new trees. Accordingly, we'll get more clean air.
3) Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
No, I've never donated for Team Trees. But, as I mentioned above, I will learn this topic in more detail. After that, I will make a decision about donation.
I've made several donations, and I always check organizations before making a donation.
1. Have you watched Mr Beast's videos? If yes, which is your favorite one or the one that you remember the best?
Yes, I have seen some of his videos, e.g. donating huge amount of money to Twitch streamers or buying lottery tickets. I especially liked those with lottery tickets. In his last video of this kind he spent $ 100,000 and won about $ 66,000 which as far as I remember he gave away to some of his friends.

2. What do you think about Team Trees? Do you think it's a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help?
I really like this idea and whole initiative. I think he's genuinely trying to help. Although he gets great amount of subscribers and recognition from this, I believe this wasn't his or Mark Rober's main goal.

3. Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organization?
I donated a $ 1 last month, so I did my part, have you? :)

they can be both. it is possible to make more publicity for a good purpose in the end, as it can help even more thanks to more publicity.

I didn't donate this kind of initiative, but I donated to some organizations.
1. Have you watched Mr Beast’s videos? If yes, which is your favourite one or the one that you remember the best?

Who know I never watched him but we are around a corner to 2020, so how many trees did he plant so far and where, this is private terrain that he can sell later when trees are big enough or maybe this is a public terrain like park, who is responsible for this area.
3. Have you ever donated for Team Trees or any other charity organisation?
No, I never gave any donation for Team Trees or any other charity organisation so far, I never felt the need to do it.

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
