Week 3 [23-29.10.17] The real versions of Disney Movies

I’m sure everyone watched  at least one of Disney’s  movies. Now Disney-Pixar makes many new films, not always based on real  stories or books. From childhood we all know movies like Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty or The Lion King. But are you aware of real stories behind those movies? Disney didn’t make them up from scratch, they were adapted,  based on fairies; still, with  a lot of modifications.

Cinderella

Disney presented a nice story of a girl who visited a party, lost her shoe and disappeared, but the Prince found her using her shoe and they got married.

What was the real story?

The authors of this story are Grimm brothers. Cruelty in their fairies is pretty common in their story Cinderella went to a party, then she come back without ..shoe. But on the other day when the Prince was looking for her and visited her house, Cinderella’s stepmother told her two daughters to cut off their toes in order to fit the shoe.

Sleeping Beauty

After watching the movie we remember sleeping girl who was founded by the Prince who kissed her and she woke up after a long time. Then they’ve fallen in love in each other and got married.

What was the real story?

Originally the story was written by Giambattista Basile and titles as “Sun, Moon and Talia”. Talia – the Disney’s Sleeping Beauty wasn’t kissed by the Prince and wasn’t even woken up by him (I mean not directly). In the real story the Prince found Talia and raped her. Talia woke up months later because of advanced pregnancy. She gave birth to two babies – Sun and Moon.

Beauty and the Beast

Bella was kidnapped by the Beast, but then after spending some time with him, she found out that he was a real good man and was worth loving, so she decided to stay with him and live their lives together – that’s what we know after watching the movie.

What was the real story?

Actually the real story written by Gabrielle-Suzane Barbot de Villenueve wasn’t much more different. Apart from Bella having two rude and jealous sisters. One day after kidnapping the Beast allowed Bella to leave him for a week so that she could spend some time with her sisters. Being really jealous about all luxurious things and the house, the sisters persuaded her to stay with them a little bit longer hoping the Beast  would get furious and eat Belle after her return.

Maybe you know more original fairies
What is your favorite movie/fairy?
What do you think about latest Disney-Pixar movies? Are they better or worse than those?

I’ll be glad to know your opinion.

I love tales and animation movies. However now when I think of Sleeping Beauty, I think I will recall it one day when showing Disney version to my children :).

We have to get one fact straight - none of these movies were made by Pixar, and only Beauty and the Beast used Pixars digital ink tool. Pixar's movies (both shorts and full length) were never images brought to life (sketches/drawings), they were proper 3D animations (even though the first ones were very simple, especially by today's standards). Speaking of Disney-Pixar in this article is a bit misleading, as the movies mentioned in the article were made by Disney solely, and that was still years before Pixar became a part of Disney or even signed the famous 5-movie-contract with them.

My favorite animated movies of all times are the Toy Story series, UP!, and of course some of Pixars shorts, expecially Luxo JR. and Piper. As you might have noticed, these are all Pixar movies, and the reason is, that they are very versatile. They can be enjoyed by both a baby and an adult. They do not get old, because at different ages you notice different aspects of the story, and find new emotions. That goes both for the full length movies and the shorts.

Unfortunately, that is not the case for the majority of the new Pixar movies (post 2010), which are not targeted to such broad audience anymore, and tend to be more childish, lacking interesting nuances for adults. I am definitely waiting for Toy Story 4 (2019), but I do not get my hopes up that it will live up to the quality of the original trilogy.

I knew all of those, but still I like to read about it - there is as many versions of those stories as people, who tell them.
My favorite fairy is The Little Match Girl - it always melts my heart. I also really like and enjoy The Wild Swans.
About better worse - some time ago, when Disney was relising a lot of movies with actors it was said that 'real disney' is dead, and then - suddenly - The Princess and the Frog appeard. And then, people fell in love with disney again.
I didn;t like live action movies, I 'needed' those beautiful pictures. Sometime ago I hated 3D Pixar movies, but now I enjoy also them.
I think that most fairy tales we know toady were totally different at their origin, more darker for sure. For example in original story of Mulan, she kills herself at the end. All those happy endings in fairies are made by Disney. Actually there are a lot of fairies that don't end well. There are also fairies like A Series of Unfortunate Events, where nothing good happens.
I'm not sure if we can call it fairy, but my choice for favourite one is Mononoke Princess directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Story about conflict of human and nature with gorgeous drawing made by Studio Ghibli. I recommend it to all, if you havn't seen it. Even if you don't like anime, gibe Pricness Mononoke a try, you will not regret it.
Maybe it will not be a popular opinion, but I really like newest Pixar movies. I don't find them worse than older ones. Moreover, Inside out ( which is my favourite Pixar movie, btw.) in my opinion is best movie in 2015, not only in animation category.

Well, you must have not read the entire article. There are only two sentences mentioning Disney and Pixar combined. Both of those are referring to the present situation, so I think your accusation that my article is misleading is absolutely inappropriate. My advice for the future - please read whole text before commenting.

Oh, no. I shouldn't have been reading it before going to sleep.
But I love "Beauty and the Beast", it was my favorite cartoon and I've been watching it so many times. I find the Disney's version of the Candlestick man and the Clock man more beautiful and charismatic than the movie's one. And I also heard about scary versions of tales. Someday I was trying to find them on the Internet but it was very difficult. I mean, not the articles about this, but the original stories to read, books or something.
I wonder, for what purpose Grimm brothers wrote so scary stories.
Everyone knows this kind of stories, but honestly, i don't believe this "truth". There is a gossip factor everywhere now. Not because our mind can't imagine this story in other way, but where you found this undisputed truth?
And what about similar stories, my favourite was The Lion King and Charlie and Chocolate factory(i know that it's not a disney). And after this article, i can't prepare myself to perceive my favourite stories in other way.

My friend has read Cinderella to her daughter recently. She was puzzled why the prince could not recognize Cinderella. Was he only looking at her shoes when dancing? :) She was still her same person, only in a fancy outfit.

My favorite Disney production is a scene with dancing drunk pink elephants from Dumbo. Visually psychedelic. It also sends a real life message unlike many others Disney movies that set us up for life disappointments.
It was not Dumbo's courage or persistence that let him fly, but booze.

Of course in my childhood I used to watch Disney movies. Watching this movies brought into my life a big variety of feelings and emotions. I haven’t heard different plot of any movie than this one from childhood. I’m surprised a little but to be honest the ‘truth’ won’t change much in my life, I will always remember what I’ve watched. My favorite Disney movies are all parts of Toy Story, I can watch each part many times and everytime I will feel like it’s a first time. I don’t know too much about latest Disney productions but I can assume that it may be entertaining for current children but for me movies from my childhood will be the best.
I already heard about the real story about the sleeping beauty before, but I always remember the movie I have watched as a kid. My favorites are Hercules (because I loved greek mythology) and Aladdin, if I had to chose from Disney production. As for Pixar my favorite is Toy Story. Modern Disney and Pixar movies are still great, I liked Walle a lot, and heard really good opinions about Frozen.

I haven't watched any of these films, but I must admit that the real stories behind them really suprised me. :) My favorite movies from Disney were The Lion King and Tarzan and from Pixar Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. I remember that I really loved these films and could watch them over and over again. The real pain was that they were on VHS tapes and each time you had to rewind them (something unbelievable as I think about it now :) ). In my opinion movies for kids are not as good as they used to be, but there are some exceptions like Inside Out or Wall-e.
Anonymous said…
I have been wondering about it many times. I mean - I have read a book that contained many "real" stories by Grimms Brothers and I think writing them - they were't think about children, but about adults ;)
Anonymous said…
Actually it doesn't matter where I've found them. What matters is that there are for sure the original books or manuscripts somewhere. I've also read a book with the real stories and I think that books are sources believable enough.
Anonymous said…
I agree with you that when we were younger those movies were better ;) But on the other hand I have to admit that those modern ones have a great quality, animation and everything connected with production.
Unknown said…
I can really feel you Łukasz (no strings attached). Although I knew original versions before, nevertheless the ‘truth’ won’t change much in my life, I will always remember what I’ve watched. My favorite Disney story is also ToyStory and watching this movie always give me so much fun. In addition, I have little sister and I am watching some new Disney movies with her - they are good, but it of course doesn't feel the same. They are more politically correct and it seems pretty rigid, but kids don't see this, so it is fun for them and excluding these moments, I have same fun like it's a first time.

It's very interesting I didn't know that those fairy tales are based on some stories but made better. Today they sometimes make nice animation but this is rare. In the past it was better. In my opinion Pixar is weak. It's enought to look at future Pixar films. They are only sequels.
At the beginning Pixar said that they will never make sequels. I really liked movies based on stories like Maleficent with Angelina Jolie and The beauty and the beast with Emma Waston.
The fairytails we know from our childhood with addition of cruelty and intrigues are fascinating. Realising that original Sleeping Beauty was much more... complicated than Disney's vision was a little shock to me.
The question is: for who the authors written those fairytails (I don't think that children were the primary target for those books) and who decided to change them in such way that today every child knows those fairytails).
Unknown said…
First of all, thank you for an interesting article. It was really great to find out how the original stories are different and some cruel. To be honest, I've never watched any of these movies and that's why I don't have too much to add. Nevertheless, I would like to claim that movies based on these fairy tales have become an attribute of Disney.
Unknown said…
My favorite movie it's Lion King and Aladdin. For me the best movies.
Interesting stories, very good voice, idea, scenes... 5/5
And latest Disney-Pixar movies are very good too.
Last movie what i saw it's Moana, And let me tell you, not a bad .
Unknown said…
Can't say anything regarding fairy tales due to time went. I don't have any favorite movie just because in different point in life you have different views. There is for sure films that change my mind like Mr. Nobody and Be Kind Rewind. Those are more existential with questions about life and its purpose.
Now I'll forever blame you for keeping in mind that sleeping beauty got raped :). It's interesting to read about those original stories, thanks a lot.
Unknown said…
I've heard about original stories of these fairies quite a lot. Well, what can I say? The time, when they has been created was even worse. If you need more, let's say, adult example of such comparision, read "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain or "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes after reading, for example, "Ivanhoe" by Sir Walter Scott.

Personally, i'm not a huge fan of Disney or Pixar. My favorite titles are "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" and "Treasure Planet", and they are pretty good and, in some ways, underrated. These two movies are bringing a lot of good memories, I like to watch it again from time time time, and I can't say the same thing for the latest Disney works.
Anonymous said…
Haha, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you're no getting nightmares after reading this article ;)
Maciej Główka said…
I've never heard about original stories, you article was surprising for me. It doesn't surprise me why they were modified by Disney, showing rape wouldn't be so good in kids movie.
To be honest, I don't have favourite fairytale. However, I really like watching them. Especially in modern movies there are many hidden jokes for adults. Hunting them down is really enjoyable.

Recently I watched Frozen and it seems to be my favorite Disney movie. I was impressed by the music and effects.
As I remember I hadn't watched any of movies you listed. More or less I know what they are about, but not with details.

True story about Cinderella is disgusting. Sisters cut off their toes... It's nothing strange that Disney cut this from movie. When I was child I always watch Disney cartoons or movies, but for the last few years I haven't seen any. It's interesting if children nowadays like Disney the same as we when we were younger.
Unknown said…
Ah Disney cartoons are for kids but not only. There are a lot of refferences for adults too. I heard about one animation that was based on some real story but did not know about so many. Life is brutal and full of zasadzkas. Maybe that is why we love so much movies and books that we can sink in?
Unknown said…
I was a bit surprised about the original stories which Disney used to write their storyline. I think that it is normal that people often use such inspiration to create their own stories. I still enjoy watching Disney's cartoons because I think that usually they tells us interesting stories. When I was kid I didn't see references to funny things which are clear only for adults. I think that Disney and others studios winks for parents who have to watch cartoons with their childrens. I really like Moana because there are nice songs. I usually start a work day with disney playlist on spotify. :D
Unknown said…
After I read a real story of the "Sleeping Beauty" cartoon with princess raping, it was hard to imagine what is lurking in the dark of the "Beauty and the Beast" section. Beauty raped by the Beast? Or even worse scenario, in which Beaty appeared to be a rapist?

My favorite cartoon is "WALL-E", from recent ones it is "Zootopia", definitely one of the best cartoons I've ever seen.

I love Disney cartoons, but to be honest I'm not differ Disney studio from Dreamworks and 20th century fox and others. I can only say that cartoons from Disney are not depraved with stupid jokes and violence, so I can go to the cinema with my 12-year-old sister on any Disney film and gain some positive emotions from it.
P.S. Uncountable number of songs in some of their cartoons(hey, Moana!) sometimes can cause you to sleep in the middle of a storyline, just don't forget about it.

In fact I've never thought about the origins of these popular Disney movies, so I found it pretty surprising that these were only adaptations of some older fairy tales.

My favorite fairly tale is probably 'Mulan', the great story of bravery and friendship. Thanks to this article, I have also found out that it's a story based on the figure of a legendary woman warrior from the Southern and Northern Dynasties period - Hua Mulan.

I certainly think that Disney's golden age is when they were releasing their movies in the 90s, but the reason behind it may be because that's the period from which I've seen the most of their movies, including the "Duck Tales" from year 1990.

When I was a teenager, I was interested in original versions of disney movies so I wasn't surprised :D. It's hard to rate which movies was better. Of course I prefer classical animated productions but ignoring that, the story line in modern movies is also good as in the old ones (Frozen, for example).

If we are talking about original stories, I have another example: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In the original story, Esmeralda was hung, Quasimodo vanished and two years later skeletons of Esmeralda and Quasimodo was found in the Montfaucon basement.
I had book with Grimm Brothers tales when i was a kid (i guess i got some censored version sigh) so no big surprise there but, sleeping beauty got raped, Mulan commited suicide etc. how much do you hate us to tell about it. Tho i got to admit there is no better time than before halloween.

Original versions of fairy tales mentioned in the text were written exclusively for adults, that's why they are a bit creepy and inappropriate for younglings. Disney did a good job recognising best parts of those tales and putting them in their films.

Speaking about my favourite animations, I would say Dreamworks's Prince of Egypt is the one I like the most. I love its biblical "severity", great songs and animation. I generally like animated movies and there is actually a long list of movies that I have special feelings for, both western, like Sleeping Beauty, Toy Story, Shrek or Hercules, and eastern, like Studio Ghibli's Majo no takkyūbin or Hauru no ugoku shiro. So, to sum up, I like a lot of children movies, but when somebody asks me about my favourite, I say it's Prince of Egypt.

Disney's new movies are different than the old ones. Few years ago, when Frozen hit the theaters I was like "this the end of Disney" - I didn't like the movie at all. Great animation accompanied by dull story and uninteresting characters. And all that followed by Disney marketing machine which puts funny secondary characters only to introduce them to Happy Meals at McDonald's. Fortunately, Moana appeared and my faith in Disney returned.
I really enjoy watching Disney's movies. I think sometimes they have hidden message for adults which children do not understand. That's why not only children enjoy watching Disney's cartoons. Beaty and the Beast is one of my favourites cartoons. I was really shocked by the real story of it.
I have heard the original stories when I was a kid, thanks to my grandma. It’s hard to tell which fairy tale is my favorite because to be honest I don’t really remember most of them. Probably if I had to choose I would say that Lion King is my favorite Disney movie. I’ve watched Frozen and for me it’s too much singing, too little plot.
I thing it's a good thing that Disney modified the stories so much. Lion King is an obvious adaptation of Hamlet, but all the stabbiness wouldn't really make for a good kids movie. At least not today when we want the kid stories to inspire and amaze children, and not to put the living fear of Jesus Christ in them like they used to do back in the day.
I haven't watched any modern Disney/Pixar movies, apart from Zootopia, which was pretty good and somewhat resembled the good ones like The Lion King, Mulan and The Emperor's New Groove, which wasn't produced by the aforementioned companies and rarely makes it to the best animated movies lists, but is still my favorite. I seldom think about the history of movies, fairies and other similar concepts, because it's impossible to find the exact origin point. Just like most of the modern created fantasy universes were based on The Lord of the Rings it doesn't mean that they can't become a good, living concept on their own.
Unfortunately as a reader pearson i had met with original versions of those stories the ones u mentioned and other like Peter Pan being actually the bad guy kidnapping children. What Disney did with their movies is they created huge connected universe by referencing they previous movies and characters inside new ones (Scar's pelt in Hercules for example). As for if they are better or worse They are different cant really compare movies with different stories for me they still are amazing both visually and story wise.

Yep, you surprised me :D. I haven't heard the true stories and the Sleeping Beauty one - damn. I've never supposed that Prince could be a rapist!
I've seen all of these movies that you mentioned. My favourites are The Lion King and Toy Story. Great childhood memories.
Unfortunately I haven't seen any new Disney-Pixar movies.
I didn’t know those origin stories. They are horrifying! Instead I heard the Hercules original story in which he is a savage, a rapist and a killer. It’s hard to believe that those stories were the foundation for fairytales that kept us company through our entire childhood.
Unknown said…
When I was a young, I only watched original versions of disney movies so I wasn't surprised :D. It's hard to rate which movies are better. But still i prefer those classics.

If we are talking about original stories, I have another example: The Little Mermaid. inthe original story the little mermaid diesand is reincarnated as an ethereal earthbound spirit, a daughter of the air, andis given 300 years punishment for her selfishness. She has to do good deeds for people over that time to enter the god's kingdom.
Disney cartoons are not just for kids. You are more likely to meet when adults can find something for themselves. My favorite movie is the whole series of Penguins of Madagascar.
It is hard to determine the true author of these fairy tales and it is hard to determine the true inspiration. Grimm brothers based on to Charles Perrault (wasn’t mentioned), Perrault based on mentioned Giambattista Basile, and Basile on folk stories. Never the less… My favorite Pixar movie is Toy Story and Wall-e. It is very hard to find arguments, because they are in my list of the greatest movies ever produced.
Unknown said…
I hope I have surprised you with those stories.
Maybe you know more original fairies
What is your favorite movie/fairy?
What do you think about latest Disney-Pixar movies? Are they better or worse than those?

I love Disnay versions ;D
And I love those adorable songs that are inserted into fairy and movies. I like older faires like Hercules or Lion King and i know these songs by heart. Maybe sometimes they are exaggerated, but that's about it in fairy tales i think ;)
The last Disney productions are cool, however I have a great sentiment to those of my childhood and for new ones I do not have time. I usually see them once in the cinema. It's not much compared to those I've seen in my childhood a dozen or so times, memorizing all the dialogues. Anyway i like every Disney production ;D
Unknown said…
Of course behind every nice fairytale there is a brutal story. But when we are children, we are so pure and all the parents try to hide it from their children. I have grown up on the Disney princess movies and I am happy about it.
Unknown said…
I’ve heard two of those original stories you presented. I think it just shows how amazingly Disney turned a grim story into a tale for kids to enjoy.
As to my favourites I have those three: Mulan, Hercules and The Emperor’s New Groove. I thought hard which is my favourite one but it’s just too hard to pick only one :D I’ve watched those three plenty of times.
And the more recent movies? I watched Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6 and Inside Out. These were okay but nowhere near the older ones. Nostalgia is a strong force ;)

Wow! Greate article. It was very interesting to read. I have never heard about the true stories behind this Disney movies. I am a big fan of Disney-Pixar animations. I have watched all their movies. My favorites are Toy Story, Wall-e, Up and Zootopia. However, all their films are very good. I think the latest Disney-Pixar movies are as good as the earlier films. It is important that from every their movie we can learn a lot of moral even if we are not children.

Except Cindrella's one I've never heard about original stories. It was really interesting to me and now I'm seeking more information about other stories. My favourite movie was The Lion King, I laughed at Timon and Pumbaa and cried because of Mufasa's death. From current Disney's movies I choose Frozen and Zootopia, both are wise stories with morals. It's hard for me to reply to the last question. Regardless of the era, there are always good and bad movies because it's a very subjective thing.
I think, that it isn't terrible that movie/fairy differs from real story/book , the most important that movie/fairy has right message for young viewer. My favorite movie is "Zootopia" by Disney. Fantastic movie for both children and adults, with great animations and stunning plot witch covers a lot of problems and topics of our modern society. What do I think about latest Disney-Pixar movies? Honestly, nothing but those few movies from Disney and Pixar (2010 -2017) that I have seen, were quite good , and some even better than old classics .

I have heard the real story of Sleeping Beauty and Cindirella. When I was a child I had 4 compact cassettes with the Brothers Grimm stories. I loved listening to them and knew them all by heart.
My favourite movie (animated story) was, and will be, Winnie the Pooh. I am the great fan of Disney movies (Disney-Pixar as well) and if any new comes to the cinema it is a must-watch for me.

Like Magdalena, I also heard the real story of Cinderella. Also my mother used to read me many stories when I was a child. We also had VHS cassettess with most of the Disney films. I don't remember most of them right now, but if I had to choose one that I recall it would be Lion King and its fantastic story. I can't say that I cried while watching like our ex prime minister did but I remember that I really enjoyd watching it. The latest Disney-Pixar movie that I watched was Cars 3. I will always say that it is a fantastic story because I am a typical petrolhead. So whenever there is a connection between cars and something else that I could enjoy, I will always say that it is top-notch.
Unknown said…
Yeah, I have hear all these stories. There also was a story of Cinderella by mentioned above Giambattista Basile, where Cinderella has broken her stepmother's neck by a chest lid. Very sweet fairytales.
I study animation, that's why I am so into cartoons and Disney movies. I love all the classic movies and the new ones too. Wall-E and Up are my favorites. I think the idea of these movies is to make our world better. Ans Walt Disney was an amazing person, who's inventions in animation are still alive and will bring to life many awesome stories, I hope. Their only mistake is new Star Wars, IMHO:)
Unknown said…
I believe that the original stories have their charm and were meant to serve another purpose than the movies or "newer" versions of the stories. Nowadays everything is made to satisfy the crowd and whenever I see something with a deeper meaning it seems to repel larger audience for some reason. It is also worth mentioning that the original stories probably weren't meant for the children in the first place.

Both Pixar's and Disney's animations are wonderful because of how well made they are. The plots usually aren't that great but its understandable considering their target. The graphics and the music though is where they shine.

I think the most movies has some real story. I think that eal story convince director to make this movie. When i was child i watched a lot of Disney production because i like it and i dont think about real story of this movies. Well i dont like new movies from Disney. Its hard to do new movie good enough like King Lion. Now i only beg disney to do some good production in Star Wars not like 7th part of Star Wars because it was terible

I started to read your post and I thought about the real story behind the movie „Anastasia” immediately. My sister used to love this movie so much, that when we were children, she persuaded me to watch it with her. Obviously, I would rather watch a movie addressed to boys, but I found the story quite interested. ,,Anastasia” was based on a history of Tsar Nicholas II, his daughter Anastasia and their family. If you like fairies, I recommend this one. It wasn’t produced by Disney but it is known to be a classic which can compete with Disney movies. However, the real story about the family was very dismal. They were all killed during the October Revolution.
To be honest, I prefer newer animated movies. One of my favourites is ,,Zootopia”. Very enjoyable! I like Disney-Pixar movies because they are not addressed only to children. They have a sense of humor which is appreciated by most adults.

Disney movies are great. Not all of them got my attention but I like most of them, especially those old ones, seen as a kid. Pixar? Wasn't fully aware they merged with Disney but boy oh boy I love it, every single one. Wall-E, Up, Monsters, Brave, Inside Out a genius productions.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form.
