Cast:
  • Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn

A Movie based on a book written by Phillipa Gregory (I highly recommend it!). This is a story about king Henry VIII and the events that led to the rise of the Anglican Church. If you decide to watch this movie, you will see the determination of a man who fell in love and how manipulative a woman can be to reach her goal.

A witty and interesting story of a young woman, Elizabeth Bennet, who is supposed to get married, due to her age and will of her mother, but due to her stubbornness and will of self-determination has got problems with reaching this goal. A Clever and surprising story.
I also recommend the book “Pride & Prejudice” – you may be surprised with dialogues between siblings, friends and spouses.

I hadn't seen any of those movies, moostly because I am not very fond of costume movies.

I think I have never seen any of these films and I don't need to see them. I have never liked this type of films. It's not my style. I most like superhero costumes movies :) Recently you can see on TVN Belle Epoque it is tv series. It's awful. Everything is so artificial and clean. But yesterday I finished watching HBO series TABOO. It's fantastic, I recommend it to everyone. It's climate of 19th century is perfect. Tom Hardy who played there main character was fantastic he should get Oscar.

I don't remember if I watched pride and prejudice, but the rest I haven't seen yet. Recently, if talking about duch kind of movies/literature I've bought Anna Karenina book and I'm going to read it during summer holidays as well as watch the movies which you recommend.
Unknown said…
Do you like this kind of books? Have you read similar ones?
Unknown said…
I agree, Belle Epoque is ... wooden? Really.
If you like Tom Hardy you may watch "The Virgin Queen". If you don't like so distant times you may be interested in "The Knick" - beginning of the XX, New York. It's not about the murderer, but close - surgeon. I recommend it. I haven't seen TABOO, so I can't tell if it's similar.
Unknown said…
What kind of movies you like the most then?
Anonymous said…
I didn't see any of these movies. I don't remember this kind of movies but I think I haven't ever watch such movies. I don't like this type. I rather watch some modern and real films.
Unknown said…
Most of them are very real - but about people and events that took place many years ago. You can see what kind of clothes people used to wear, how they used to act - mostly it is very different than what's today, but still - they are real.
Of all the above, I watched only "The Other Boleyn Girl" and I really liked it. As for "Pride & Prejudice", the film suggested above is more a disgrace of the book than its adaptation. If you want to look, there is a wonderful serial of 1995 where Mr.Darcy plays Colin Firth, and here it is really true adaptation of the book.
Unknown said…
I want to watch it. I remember when I read "Bridget Jones Diary" and she also recommended it. And I agree that this is rather adaptation - I watched this move several times, and when I read the book I haven't think of movie, because of lack of similarity.
If you liked "The Other Boleyn Girl" I recommend you the book. In my opinion it is much better - like when you compare book and movie movie is a little bit dissapointing - so many scenes were omitted or shortened.
I haven't seen any of these movies. Maybe I should, but I always find something better to watch. I don't like this type of movies. I would rather watch some HBO or Netflix TV series or Marvel movies or other similar. I just like this kind more.

I've seen many costume movies and series, but any of these movies. I like historical series. I recommend Rome, Borgia's family or The Tudors. All of them was created by HBO. If you like older movies or series you should watch Amadeus (great movie about Mozart) and "I, Claudius" (great series about Rome Empire).
Unknown said…
I understand. In movies I mentioned I really enjoy costumes and scenery - so when I read historical book I can better "see" what I'm reading. What series do you recommend? Have you seen anything interestng recently?
Unknown said…
I watched some episodes of series you've mentioned. I enjoyed them. I suppose that you may like The Virgin Queen, if you like those serieses. I'm not a fairy, so I may be wrong, but I think that this series is worth trying, specially that you like this kind of series

I am not such much into that kind of movies, except for The Vikings series.
I truly recommend Vikings series since it shows in a very interesting way how they might have been living in their times. Also, I remember The Pirates of Caribbean being quite nice to watch, also thanks to the costumes and scenography.
Every other movie I have watched was quite not in my taste, I simply could not get into the plot because of the odd type of play and dialogues.
Unknown said…
I love costume movies. Pride and Predujice is one of my favourites films. Of these films I haven't seen the last one. Costumes are really important in these movies because let us to feel the atmosphere of the era. I don't know which costumes are the best I think all are great.
Unknown said…
Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson… Okay, I want to watch this film!
In fact, the only "costume" film I ever so was the "Pirates of the Caribbean". I don't really interested in this type of movies, I would rather prefer Game Of Thrones or Marvel films.
Unknown said…
I have never seen any costume movie and to be honest I'm not going to. I hate this kind of movies. I prefer action movies which plot is placed in this days.

As I said, I prefer movies about present times. I have never been interested in history, so I'm also not interested in such movies.

Basing on these photos you've published the most beautiful costumes were used in The Other Boleyn Girl. I liked them the most because they weren't too sassy.
Not my thing at all, I like movies in general but I never considered costume as primary thing - it's usually about the story, plot, acting, dialogues, but costumes usually are far on the bottom of the factors I consider important in movies. It's not like they're not important at all, they are, but it's a bit like graphics in video games - if your game is good, then graphics can make it even better, but are not crucial for a game to be considered decent.

Sadly I also didn't want any of the movies you've listed, so I don't have any opinion about them.
Unknown said…
If you liked the movie I highly recommend you the book. I've finished it recently and I really liked it.
Unknown said…
I watched The Vikings season one and I stopped, I don't know why. I know that not everyone are into those movies, but I also know that even when you think that you're not into something there is one exception that you like.
Unknown said…
Costume movies I wrote about are a little bit similar to Game of Thrones, except dargons. There is also fight for throne and authority, conspiracy and romance. The movie you picked is the one I would recommend to you.
Unknown said…
Yes, they weren't sassy, but they were hiding female silhouette, but that was fashion. Please notice headwear, named cornet - I've never seen it before and I remember how surprised I was to see that it may look good.
Unknown said…
I think so too. In Marie Antoinette costumes made this movie pleasant for eye - I believe it is visible on attached frames. You can somehow feel the era and see what was important and what was going on in society.
Unknown said…
I've watched only "Pride & Prejudice" from this list and I liked it a lot. The book by Jane Austen is one of my all times favorite book. I watched this movie after reading and re-reading the book many times, and I didn't expect anything really good from it because it's an usual thing when the movie is worth that the book. But I was highly surprised. I liked the movie, I liked the cast and action, and dialogues. Of course, the movie didn't show all the aspects of the book, but it shouldn't. It just shouldn't loose the main points of the original story, and I think it achieved this goal.
I haven't seen any of these movies. So I can't say if I like or do not like them. Maybe one day I will watch some of them, but because historic movies are not my favorite genre of movies it's highly unlikely. With my little knowledge about this type of movies I can't really add anything to this topic.
Talking about costumes I most like ones from Marie Antoinette, because from what I can see in the pictures they are most complex and hard to made and look really nice.
I don’ really like costume movies. Or movies at all.
I find them too short, I want to see more of the story.
Not only hour or two of it.
That’s why I love tv series, especially when there are already a few seasons aired so I can binge watch them as fast as I can.
Unknown said…
Oh, I was going to mention Taboo too. While watching I was thinking that the suits are amazing and the atmosphere is really cool. One of the best tv series of the last time. And the grown-up Tom is not worse than younger, I guess:)
I have watched only The Other Boleyn Girl, and it was quite nice, as far as I remember. But, unfortunately, I can't recollect how the suits look there.
I like to read the books more then to watch the films, though, sometimes it is easier to imagine the epoch while watching.
I didn't see any of those movies. I don't find anything intresting in this kind of movies. I prefer to watch SF or fantasy movies.
I watched „the Boleyn girls” mostly because of Scarlett Johansson and I must say, that this film is really good. It is not exactly true, that he was manipulated by women. The truth is, that the accident turned Henry VIII into a tyrant - he felt from his horse in full armor, and horse fell on top of him. He had serious legs problems which plagued him for the rest of his life and have caused an nervous system injury (brain injury) which profoundly affected his personality. We can see fall in movie, but it is not explained later. Never the less, Sandy’s Powell costumes bring us to 16th century England. She was also responsible for costumes in movies: Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island and Gangs of New York (last three are mostly man movies :).
Personally, like most male commenters here I don’t like historical movies with historical costumes. But costume movie don’t have to end on that category – for example „Mad Max” won last year Oscar price for the best costumes. And this yer, it was fantasy movie – „Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. So it doesn't have to be that one sided.

Sadly, I don't seen any of those movies. More sadly is fact that I never watch any movie about those characters. I don't like historical movies. But I love costumes. For example from: Great Gatsby, Crimson Peak.
Movies is not my topic, I prefer good book. In my head I can do more than just "watch".
Maciej Główka said…
To be honest, I've seen maybe about 10 minutes from all titles you listed. I really like watching movies, however, I'm not really into costume Films. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, but I found those movies quite boring :(
I haven't seen any of these movies. Never watched one. I don't find it interesting. From the photos in the article I liked the most the Virgin Queen suit, she looks like a venus flytrap :)
Magdalena Popek said…
I have never seen any of these movies (just the last 15 minutes of Pride and Prejudice), however I like the costumes and the style. I can't state which costume is my favourite but I love the reality of them. A Royal Night Out was the last film of almost that kind I have seen.
Unknown said…
Nope and nope. Not my thing, sorry.
Unknown said…
I made it the other way - firstly, I watched the movie (few times) and then I read the book, but still I was satisfied with the movie. It was just right - not overloaded, not too cursory.
Unknown said…
Yes, they are very rich and details are delightful - not only dresses, but also hairstyles, shoes.
Unknown said…
In my presentation there is one series listed, so you may look at it.
Unknown said…
There is many movies that are mixed historical and fantasy. Do you know any of it?
Unknown said…
Yes, I agree. But I wanted to show that in similar subject the overall may be very different - here, you've got historical movies (and one based on fiction) with totally different costumes.
Unknown said…
I agree, but you brain can't make something new, it can just recreate what you saw and change it, so the more you see the more you can imagine.
Unknown said…
And some of them really are! But sometimes, for example on lazy Sunday afternoon, I like to lay down and watch something that won't involve me - emotionally or won't make me think too much
Unknown said…
Interesting conclusion :D
Unknown said…
I haven't seen it - do you recommend it?
Unknown said…
And what is your thing?
Unknown said…
Well i have never watch that movies and for me costume like that are not comfortable and people who wear that costume feel terible and dream about take off that clothes. If i see my girlfriend in costume like that i will laugh a lot and force her to take off that clothes (take off but wear casual clothes without overtone :) )
Unknown said…
Then I recommend you the book this movie is based on. Long one, but worth reading. Easy to read, well wrote and reading it was a pleasure to the very end.
Bartosz Łyżwa said…
Unfortunately I've never seen and I don't want to see any of those movies :(. I'm not interested in this kind of art so I can't write anything meaningful. What about costumes... I prefer costumes like in "The Other Boleyn Girl, 2008" but I have no arguments to prove that, I like it just like that.
Unknown said…
Actually I'm not a fan of costumes movies but I've watched "Pride and Prejudice" and it was very good.

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds often come fr

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and naturally.
