Week 11 [09.01-15.01] So... what TV shows are you watching ?

It’s 2017. Some TV shows have bigger budgets than average movies, attract bigger audiences than movies, and aren’t even viewed on TV! Everyone watches them, has a favourite show or even a couple of them. Of course, film industry is aware of that and that is why we see such an expansion of TV series market and platforms that let us enjoy them.

TV shows mania is here to stay. It’s more convenient to watch an episode (or five) at home on almost every device with the internet connection than go to the movie theater. What’s more, audience stay with characters for longer due to fact that seasons last longer than a film and often are released over the years.

I’ve decided to share with you with some of the shows I finished or started to watch recently. It’s obvious that one can easily get lost in the number of propositions of networks today. Let’s share some gems that you think are worth watching!

Narcos

Factual series showing rise and fall of one of the biggest drug cartel’s  boss - Pablo Escobar.
Taking audience to the world of criminals and millions of dollars stacked everywhere. An intense, dark and addictive show. It’s worth watching just for the captivating performance of Wagner Moura (playing Escobar). In my opinion Heath Ledger Jokers level. Especially useful if you want to learn how to curse in Spanish ;)

Stranger Things

http://zkina.pl/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Stranger-Things-poster.jpg
Mood of this show really reminds me of E.T. A sci-fi show about a group of friends trying to find their missing friend and their adventures. Things get complicated when they meet Eleven, a girl with supernatural powers. Provided with a great soundtrack!

Ray Donovan

http://twoje-seriale.pl/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ray-donovan2.jpg
Spiritual successor of The Sopranos. Drama about a father and husband, Ray Donovan, working in California as a guy that does dirty work for celebrities. Things get complicated when some event from his shady and dark past comes to light. At first, a slow paced show which after a few episodes takes the audience for a crazy ride in Mercedes-Benz CLS 550.

The Night Of

Yes, another show about criminals on this list. But this time it’s about the innocent guy! Nasir Khan - a student that was in a wrong place, at the wrong time. After being put in jail suspected of homicide and rape he has to survive there until his trial. With an infamous lawyer on his side, Nasir has to stay hopeful he won’t be sentenced, at the same time trying not to get killed by his inmates. The Night Of really shows how the surrounding can affect ones behaviour.

Share with me your propositions !

I'm not watiching any of those, but probably I will :)
Some time ago I finished "The Knick" - graet one. Historical, medical one. Great costumes, realistic surgey. You can learn something about XX century society in New York. I recommend, but if you are afraid of blood or surgery in TV then you shouldn't watch it.
I'm also watching "The Fall" with amazing Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. It is about serial killer, actually about catching him. I haven't finished it, but as for now I really like it.

I like Netflix very much. Narcos for me is one of the best TV series. Every episode was good for me. I recommend Narcos for everyone very much. About Stranger Things it was good too but I didin't like the ending too much because they finished most threads at the same time. Series I recommed most are Spartakus, Pakt, Breaking Bad, first season of Dexter, House of Cards, Game of Throne, Westworld.

Why only first season of Dexter? At least first 4 were really decent !

I'm not so into medical shows, but will check out "The Fall" ! That's the same actress that played in X files, isn't it ?

I don't watch TV shows. I used to watch a few of them (rather very few) but novadays I watch non.

I don't like watching TV regurally, but I like watch TV series online. To be honest, I like to watch Polish series very much. Of course, I don't talk about 'Klan' or 'Na wspólnej', but some of TVN's or HBO's series are interesting. I like it, because I can watch when I'm really exausted. Then I don't have to focus so much.

One of the most interesting polish TV series, which comes to my mind now is Wataha. It's about a man, whose friends and sweetheart died in a bomb attempt. He try to find a perpetrator.
I heard that, despite the fact that it is a TV series, the work of the Border Guard is presented very realistically.

On the other hand, I like to watch American's series such as 'Game of Thrones', 'Suits' etc.

The most recent show I watched was a third season of Black Mirror - it's a masterpiece and I strongly suggest watching it, especially episode named "San Junipero". This show has no continuous plot so you don't have to watch every episode.

I like good TV series very much and that's kind of a problem, when I find some good TV series I get addicted to them and watch them till the end, usually it lasts for a few days:) It's better when you have to wait for the next episode, otherwise you just have to see what happens next.

I can talk for hours about the TV shows. Narcos can be called a work of art After watching all the episodes, I realized that a few months before me of torment waiting for the new season. I would add to your list:
Vikings, The Knick, Supernaturals, Sherlock, Sons of Anarchy, Six Feet Under, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Shameless, Mr. Robot .... I could write endlessly :). Shows are better entertainment for me than long films. If you are a student of computer science, for sure you'll like Mr. Robot.

From my point of view, I can recommend you Vikings. They are inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France. The show portrays Ragnar as a farmer who rises to fame by successful raids into England, and eventually becomes a Scandinavian king, with the support of his family and fellow warriors

I will definiately check out "Wataha"! I'm curious about it, because it's a polish show. Hopefully one day we will be able to watch some polish series on Netflix etc.
Unknown said…
Wow, you have to watch a lot :D Mr Robot sounds cool. I've heard that actor playing lead character did great job. Just from watching the trailer I can tell I would enjoy this show.
Unknown said…
Yes, and she looks much better than back then! ;)

Oh I've seen this one! Great show. Amazing intro song :D

Since I have started to use Netflix, I have watched Vikings, Stranger Things, Narcos - highly recommend, the vibe is very special and original, The Suits, House of Cards and The Fall. I can recommend all of them, they all vary from each other, they tell different stories, relate to different ages, countries, cultures and locations, but all of the are definitely very well done and not obvious.
Recently I haven't had the time to watch new series, but maybe when I am done with some projects, I find a new and interesting series which I could recommend afterwards.

I have seen Stranger Things and i am so much waiting for more episodes to come. I think that this is one of the best TV shows made in years.

The other one soon to come which is a must for me will be Twin Peaks – I don’t know if any of you have seen it as it is quite old but to me it is really a masterpiece by David Lynch.

I have seen a few episodes of mentioned in your presentation – Ray Donovan and I enjoyed it, but am not so crazy about it.

The Night Of is also one of the best shows that I have seen in years. I have already recommended it to most of my friends and all of them loved it.

I am also waiting to see the new Sherlock by BBC with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

I usually don't have time for shows. It would just take too much time to watch all that i would like to see. So i created queue where i keep whata i want to see. So far there are: Supernatural, Breaking Bad, Narcos, Game of Thrones, Family Guy, Rick and Morty. The problem is that my list gets new entries faster than I can watch already existing. I hope that after my master thesis I will watch all of them.
I have few series that I'm returning to with pleasure through the years. Friends and IT Crowd are on the top of the list. One of the series that made my watch it all at once few years ago was Prison Break (especially first episode). I'm currently re-watching comedy series that ended many years ago - called 3rd Rock from the Sun with young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. That title will make you laugh all the time through it, just watch the trailers. And if you like criminal series - The Mentalist is a must on the list - every episode have intense action and many psychological tricks shown.
Watched Mr Robot. First three episodes are just masterpiece , especially if you work in IT you will love it. After watching few episodes I stopped watching it, too many combinations.

Few months ago I finished "Games of Thrones", probably one of the most famous TV show in the world. I arranged kind of marathon of this TV show for myself. I watched all seasons in one weekend. To be honest it was the best TV show I have ever seen in my life. GoT has everything what must have good TV show for me: amazing story, charismatic characters and beautiful locations. I recommend everyone who hasn’t watched it yet.
I have seen Stranger Things and I'm waiting fore more :) In a meantime I'm watching Vikings and GOT - I think that most of us watch and like this series. Also, at the beginning, I was a fan of The Walking Dead, but after second season it became so boring that I can't watch it anymore.

I always check new titles, but it is very hard to find something good.
I watched all of the above except Ray Donovan. I tried watching The Sopranos but I couldn't get into it. A bit older series but it's considered one of the greatest ones is The Wire. It's a show mainly about police/drug dealers but it also covers topics like bureaucracy, print news media, school system and urban life overall. Interesting thing about it, is that it didn't get great reviews throughout it's run. People started to appreciate it years later.

I watched Narcos, Mr. Robot, Vikings, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Dexter, Flash, Arrow, Gotham, Homeland, Lie to me, Lucifer, Da Vinci's Demons, Breaking Bad, and I believe there is more and more but I just don't remember them at this time. Also there is still a lot of series that I was recommended to watch and I definitely will. For me a good TV series is a really good time waster, but it is good to have something to loose time for. Everybody has one. :)

Since I've subscribed to Netflix I'm great fan of it's TV series like Narcos, or The Crown. This month I'm catching up with The Shooter, which I can really recommend!
Great article – thanks to you I have 2 more TV-series to watch :)
My friends have told me about “Narcos” and “Stranger Things” but I haven’t heard about “Ray Donovan” and “The night of” before, they sound really interesting though, so I will definitely watch them. I really love TV-series, much more than movies.
Recently I started watching “Prison Break” again, because I really liked it as a kid, and this year the sequel to the series will be released.

Personally I'm not a fan of watching TV series. As you've said on the very beginning - there are productions with higher budget than avarage movies but in my opinion those are really worse than many movies with lower budget. I've seen Narcos and you're right, it's very good production because of Wagner Moura :).
I like to watch TV series online. I saw lots of them, just to mention a few: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Vikings, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Sherlock. Most of these are very popular, but you might hwve not heard about series like Rome, Two and a Half Men or Burn Notice.

The number one for me was Breaking Bad. I also like GoT and I was spending nights watching it. After GoT and Narcos I like Pedro Pascal. The moment in GoT was epic:)
When my mood is awful I watch The Big Bang Theory - they could always make me smile and forget about my problems) The same with legendary Friends and How I met Your Mother.
True detective is very cool, Mad Men has it's style. I also like Scandinavian detectives like Broen( the Bridge). It's atmosphere is calm.
When I was a teen I have watched Buffy;) still love it.
Now I have started the Young Pope - it's a lil bit boring, but beautiful. I also plan to watch The Crown and House of Cards.

I will check that one out! The reason I called "Ray Donovan" a "spiritual successor to The Sopranos" is the way events were delivered in a first season and screenwriters focus on main characters family and tragic situations some of the members are in.

I have seen all TV shows except for “Ray Donovan”. I like watching TV shows only if they have an interesting story and good actors. My recommendation is "Game of Thrones" (for people with no brakes), "Breaking Bad" (perfect if you like chemistry), "Vikings" (partly based on facts) and “And Then There Were None" (miniseries with 3 episodes). Especially the second TV show is a masterpiece. The plot was written by Agatha Christie, author of many awarded books.

...and a lot of sex and violence. Come on! You can't describe Game Of Thrones without mentioning it :P What's very unique about this show, is the fact that every character can get killed in it. Sometimes the death of main character is so tragic it becomes an internet trend to film others reacting to it.

Kevin Spacey in "House of Cards" was amazing. He really took the whole TV series game to the next level.
My favourite right now is Westworld. It is incredible. A plot of it is so twisted and amazingly surprising. You just have to watch it. The next one is probably The Stranger Things. I think it is the most amazing TV show that I have seen in couple of months. Also House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Daredevill and so many more. I'm really addicted to watching movies and TV shows. Since I have had Netflix it is worst because I watch so many of them. Also Narcos is on my list and recently I started watching Black Mirror. Amazing view of what we are getting into thanks to technology. I could list them all they but it is all I got for now. Enjoy!

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases.
