Week 11 (01.06-07.06) Running

Recently, running has become a trend. It's enough to get out on the street to notice at least few runners, no matter if you're in Warsaw or in small village somwhere in Mazury. Nowadays runners are everywhere. What have changed that people have decided to leave their couches and start doing sports? What encourage these people to leave their warm beds every early morning, to put their training shoes after busy day at work, just in order to run a few kilometers? What can be that tempting in sweating like a pig and spending several dozen of minutes running? Below you'll find some of the stimulus, and trust me, there's something more in running than people would expect.

Fit body. Let's begin with the obvious part. People mainly start running in order to lose some weight. That's the easiest method - the fastest, and the cheapest. You don't need a lot of equipment at the beginning, your legs are enough. With time when you get known runners' world, you start buying suddenly super necessary gadgets. Anyway, one hour of running allows you to burn approximately 700 kcal.

Health. It's very important to care about health from the earliest age. There's no single cell in your body, which wouldn't benefit from running (by the way, let's abolish some mits regarding running - it doesn't ruin your knees until you take care of them and toughen your quadriceps). Regular trainings protect you from plenty of diseases, it strenghtens blood flow, minimalizes risk of diabetes and much more.

Freedom. You can train alone, in group, outside, inside, everywhere in the world. You can come the distance you want, as fast as you want, as you can. Runner is a free man.

Happinnes. A lot of studies prove that running is a great treatment for depressions. On the very first stage of this disease it beats all of the medicines. Runners enjoy life and takes everything with greater energy, self-confidence and always positive mood.

Friends. Runners are usually very open-minded people. They are very open to make new friendships, you can experience it on the mass runs where there are no boundaries, everyone talks with everyone, there're only smiles and good words. That's how you can recognise runner on the street - they always smile! Common passion and strenght of the spirit build a great running community.

Age. There's no strict boundary when it comes to the age. There are 20 years old runners, 70 either. Running is for the whole life. It's never too late to try - it's just necessary to do it wise.

Perfection. Running improve not only your body, but also your soul. You suddenly find free time for a run even during the busiest day, you pay more attention for what you eat, how you sleep, how your day time looks like. You're more organized.

Brain. Not only the legs of the runner are strong. Also the mind is. During long runs, there's plenty of time to think everything over, look at the problems from another perspective. Everything begins to be more simple. You dig deep into yourself.

Progress. You improve yourself with every single run. It's about every battle you experience with yourself with your laziness, when you go for a run, even on that day when it's the last thing you'd like to do. There's always that feeling of the victory. Moreover, there's plenty of applicants with help of which you can follow your real progress - that looks ridiculous until you try it. That's seriously a great motivation.

I'm kind of fitness freak so runs are the necessary part of my training routine. I don't even give up on running on fresh air in winter, what's more, I'm vulnerable to say that it's my favorite year season for outside workouts - there are no all of these seasonal sportsmen. Of course it's better to train only before holidays than not to train at all but still they don't know what their losing. I love running because it has increased my self confidence a lot but generally I feel much mentally stronger. I participate in most of the mass runs which takes place in Warsaw, the last one was the Orlen Warsaw Marathon (10 km, the full marathon is still ahead of me) and I love this positive spirit which can be felt from every runner.
Running fortunately became more popular in Poland. Few years ago we have started running contests like Run Warsaw then Ecco Walkathon that each year became more and more popular. That is very good that such events happen and are so popular among people in every age. The events are also popularize for ideas like subsidies for associations like WWF or Wioski Dzieciece.

For me the most popular company in Nike. I like very much their clothing products and running in them in pleasure. The also provide application for phone, that people can compete and compare their results.

I noticed that running has became more popular and I think that's good that people are becoming more and more active. I always thought that running looked like a "cool" sport but it's definitely not for me. I've tried it a few times (in different places and for different periods of time) and I just can't see myself running and it isn't that fun. I would much rather ride a bike (and I often do) :)

I am not a runner, but I love sport, I like mostly going to the gym ;) And when it comes to outdoor exercises – I prefer to cycle :) So I don't have any experience with running, I have never done this sport. I see that there is a big trend, and everyone is running. I think that it is not as healthy as it looks like. Most of people run on hard surfaces – Izabela is an expert in this field :D Of course to hate those ones, not to be the one to do so :D I guess this is not good for our joints. Especially marathons are crazy – 42km on asphalt? Good luck guys :P This is not healthy at all.

But I like this trend anyway. In general – I like the trend, that more and more people are care more about themselves , and as you said - they eat better, they find time to exercise, that's really good thing :)

I really like how Nike does all of the things they do to promote being active. I know that it is marketing but it is really big motivation and is inspiring for millions of people :)

There are also plenty social media apps, like endomondo or nike application (photo in the article, I don't know the name) to track your activity and get motivated by your friends :)
It's certainly a great trend that people do exercise more. Any form of activity is good for the body. As Natalia said, even if promoting healthy lifestyle is only a form of marketing, it's a good kind of marketing :)

That being said, I really hate running myself. I've tried it a few times and I'm totally not into it. I get bored, tired and frustrated even if I only have to run for 5 minutes to the bus stop :P As Paulina and Natalia, I definately prefer cycling or gym, things that are more diversified. Running is definately not my kind of thing.

I tried to run many years ago. I don’t like it. Running is now everywhere so much that it is in my dreams. I dream that I run from time to time. That I run so long distance and I like it. But it is only a dream. It’ s funny, very funny.
But you have showed running great so I may try it once again in the future. I don’t know because It seems to me that I prefer cycling, fitness and other physical activity but no running.

From all other possible physical exercises running is definitely not my thing :) I don't like the way I'm getting tired during a run and if I have to choose I will always grab a bike rather than start jogging :)

Running is the best idea for realising your feelings and emotions. Off course it is a healthy sport. I always feels so relax and light after going for a jog. I so proud when I run further and further everyday.

I think running is a great exercise, especially when you have some friends to run with.
I tried running five or six years ago, and I remember it was fun. Now I don't really have time for this but maybe after your presentation I will try to fit running into my daily holiday routine.

Yes, it's definitely a trend right now. I know a lot of people who run to excersise and a few who take part in running events as well. These events got popular too! I hear about them all the time, both from the media and the runners themselves. People like to share their running achievements on Facebook.

Personally I don't run. I've tried a few times, but I think I don't have enough willpower for this. I'm not sure why, but I guess I just don't like the pace. I prefer cycling. :) I also enjoy walking and I can do that for quite a long distances if I want to.

I hate when people run on asphalt , it is really bad for our tendons and ponds, no matter what shoes you have. Running has become really fancy in my opinion and it is popular to post pictures and amount of kilometers on pages like facebook instead of focuse on the run itself. But on the other hand it is good that people started to move a little more......
I don't like running. I've been running for 2 years everyday few years ago and I hated it. I prefer riding mountain bike, it's much more dynamic and exciting.
I don’t like running. I try to start running twice, after one month I feel more tired than happy so I stop this. Did you heard about ultramarathon, where people sometimes have a distance to defeat like 160km. It’s unbelievable for me. I’m not fun of running but I admire all people who start in marathons or different event. I think that events with running and cycling are organized too often in the center of city, which causes paralysis of city.

I run. And I to in quite often, maybe not everyday, but every two or three days. I run up to 7 km because my knees hurt me if I run more. But I only agree with the first two points of your list - having a fit body is definitely something that you achieve when running and with a fit body also comes health. This is why I run. But all these other things? I don't believe in this, when I run I am terribly bored (that's why I run on a threadmill and watch movies/series or even read a book), tired and definitely not happy. Afterwards my body hurts and all I want is a cold shower. I live in a village and there is absolutely nothing worth observing while running and certainly there is nobody I could run along with. Nothing stimulates my brain when I am sweaty and wishing to be anywhere else;) I also think that running wisely at a certain age should mean no running at all, but of course it all depends on one's condition and health.

I think that running is the kind of healthy fashion that is of course good for us. People motivate each other and throw pictures on social networking sites. It has a lot of advantages, moreover I can't find disadventages. It is good for our health, well-being and body.

I used to run before it became cool or lifestyle. Now there are so much people running that I prefer to get on my bike and ride.
Some people are annoying because they are running on bike paths... I can'get it - why? They do it even when the sidewalk is empty.

I think that every outdoor activity makes my brain working better.

I used to run a lot but I had problems with my knee so I had to stop. Nowadays, instead of running I walk uphill on the treadmill. I love how this type of cardio, walking or running, clears my head. It is the best time for my thoughts and me. I always analyze everything during this one hour walks. I also highly recommend studying on the treadmill because you can really get focused on learning.

I do running periodically because I easy get bored by it. Many people share their progress using Endomondo and other sport apps. Maybe I should try them for being more motivated.

Personally I do not run and I don`t like it. For me it is boring and it is heavy for our knees and spine. Every time when I tried to run it ended up a few hours back pain. I chose the less cumbersome sports for the body.
I admire people who are able to arrange them training, and their enthusiasm for running.

I'd like running to be a bigger part of my life than it is now. I cannot name myself as a runner, but I do run every time after my training in gym and I noticed this very cool feeling when you realize that can run more and more distance every time. I think it is the best motivation. So this feeling makes me more closer to running :)
I'm not a big fan of running. That's because for most of my life I've been fat. If you weight way too much then running becomes a nightmare. I prefer fast walking - it's also an exercise, you don't get tired so fast and you don't lose your breath. However, in those periods when I weight much less I enjoy running sometimes so I can imagine that it can be nice. I agree with the part about runners being usually friendly. I know some people who run frequently and they are quite nice.

I really hate running. I don't know what's so great and interesting about it. I can understand that it is fashionable to run and this is connected with a recent healthy lifestyle boom, but, really, what is healthy about running through concrete streets, between humming cars. Running makes sense only if you are practising this sport in a forest.

That's great to hear that someone is also crazy about running! I've run in OWM either and I've got to admit that the organization of this event is one of the best in Poland. I keep my fingers crossed for your marathon!

As you can see on the photos (all are taken from Nike Facebook page) I'm a huge fan of this brand. I've got almost everything needed for a running from Nike and I've never been disappointed with their products. Nike + running application is also the one that I use to track my EVERY run :)

The most important thing is to find something pleasurable and keep doing that, it's not about forcing anyone to do anything, so I wish you a lot of km on bike!
Unknown said…
When someone takes care of his body, has good shoes and trained properly even marathon on asphalt won't cause any damage! :)
Unknown said…
As I've already said in reply to Paulina: everyone has to find his own activity that he/she enjoy there was the time I've also hated running and now - I can't imagine my life without it!
Unknown said…
I'm really happy that my presentation has influenced you and I hope that you'll enjoy it this time! I think that it would be a great idea to try some trainings ( http://treningbiegacza.pl/training-plans/ ) so it will be easier to start running and enjoying it at the same time :)

Every kind of activity is better that none of them!

I also know these feeling, I totally love it !!!

That's great idea! Keeping my fingers crossed for your runs!

Walking is a great beginning for a run, check this out: http://treningbiegacza.pl/training-plans/

I totally don't agree when it comes to the shoes. I had problems with my knees because of running and then I've bought better shoes and know my legs doesn't hurt at all.
Unknown said…
I'm totally against forcing oneself to do something that one hates, that's great that you've found the activity that you enjoy.
Unknown said…
I've heard about that and I really admire this people too! I wish I was so like them!
Unknown said…
Apparently it depends on the personality, but I definitely feel so happy and satisfied during and after every run :)
That's one reason I stopped running, I care about my knees and their chondromalacia.
I love running! :D I've running since a long time and I really enjoy it! This is for endorphins appearing in our organisms and other benefits that doing this sport causes to our bodies! I simply feel better and lighter, what is more, longer term jogging helps decrease sleepiness and other health problems!
I've never really enjoyed running. Usually I prefer other methods of exercising and staying fit. Although the freedom of it (meaning that you can run anywhere you want really, be it on the streets ir in the forest) is really attractive for me. Maybe sometime in the future I'll start running frequently and change my opinion, who knows!

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
