Week 11 (01.06-07.06) Movies

Nowadays the art of movies is slowly disppearing. American high-budget films have taken over almost the whole movie industry. Small cinemas are yet closed, high-street cinemas like Helios or Multikino are on the top now. People have already forgotten that not everyting that is mainstream, is the only way to do so. There is plenty of interesting  events concerning movies.

Future Shorts - 22nd May, Kino LAB, Warsaw
Future Shorts organise such events all around the Europe and they still boom. It consists of a few short, mainly low-budget movies, so together it lasts like an usual film. It's really interesting as movies presented are very diversified so the viewer leave the festival totally absorbed with thoughts. At the end of the display, the viewers decide which movie was the best. Although the spring season of the future shorts is gone, it's regulary organised in Poland so nothing is lost.

Euroshorts - short movies and creative advertisement
In Luna cinema it was also organised American Advertise Movie in the colaboration with Euroshorts. It proves that also advertisements can be creative and interesting! As the event organizer claims, it's an unique string of advertisements created by some of the best directors, such as: Wes Anderson, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Ringan Ledwidge, Lance Acord, BUCK, Noam Murro, Tim Godsall i John Hillcoat.

5 zł Wednesdays in Kino Praha
This event is a permament part of the Kino Praha offer. It allows everyone to crob some culture for a little amount of money. The movies are different for every week and everyone can find something interesting. It's very much profitable in comparison with the usual cinema.

Summer cinemas
All around the country there are organised displays on the fresh air. That's a great idea for a warm, summer evening. It's organised on Molo in Sopot, as well as in the city centre of Warsaw.

That is true that small cinemas are closed. I am agains participating in crowd and going to cinema especially during movie premiere is nightmare. I like going to Atlantic or Iluzjon cinemas, because they are small, cheaper and customer friendly. In my opinion for them more important is quality not quantity.

I see among my friends two different trends: one of them watch only super high-budget movies and the other ones like low-budget documentary movies or old movies.

For detriment of customers are high prices. Even for students it is hard to pay 25 zł during weekend and to mention full ticket price 30 zł is horrendous.

I'm a huge movie geek and I go to the cinema very often. Everyone who know me is aware that I spend most of my money in the cinema because if there are good movie premieres every week then I would go there every week. Movies that I don't think are worth watching in the cinema I watch at home and I've recently gotten a really good movie projector and I'm in love because now I have my own private cinema, and it's sooooo cool :) So I pretty much watch almost everything that comes out. I go to both small and huge cinemas (I have "Cinema City" 5 minutes from home so I'm a frequent quest there) and I don't like a lot of policies of the multiplexes and they don't have the same climate as smaller cinemas but unfortunately I love to eat while watching movies and that's also the reason I often choose bigger cinemas. Furthermore for example "Kinoteka" (where I used to go almost every week in high school) has a pretty bad sound system in its upper rooms. But I still go to both kind of cinemas. Anyway thank you for sharing cool movie events ;)

I'm really into watching films, I especially enjoy the last event that you've mentioned in presentation. Always when I'm by the see I'm looking for some summer cinemas - that's my favourite part of the holidays. I really like watching some cool old movies by the sea. I've also been for a few times in Praha cinema on Wednesday. That's really cool that you don't have to pay this ridiculously high price for one evening at cinema.

To be honest I am not a big fan of movies, so it is quite hard for me to say something about this problem. When I go to cinema I go to the multikino or anything like it (it doesn't really matter to me where I am going but what I am going to watch, and movies are quite similar, maybe in this non mainstream cinemas there are more old movies or so, but still, nothing really outstanding). I also like going to some festivals that are organised either in cinemas like multikino and smaller like Luna, so still – no difference to me :P

I really like the idea of summer cinemas and I have been few times on such event :) the only problem is that there is no choice and you have to go on the movie that is actually on, no option to choose :( But I love the atmosphere :))

It is a sad but it is true. Small, great cinema with the his own, often old, history are closed. Unfortunatelly people prefer cinema which is light and which does not require their engagement. People go to the cinema to relax. I think that cinemas like Luna, Praga, etc. are the cinemas which show the more ambitious and demanding films. In my opinion this is the reason why people choose mainstream cinema. It is easier, lighter, more relaxing. I think you wrote about cinemas which are the places for the connoisseur. I might be wrong. I would like to think so.

I like the idea of summer cinemas, but one thing that is really wrong in this kind of event is that people smoke during the showing. It's just a matter of good manners, and unfortunately some smokers don't care about children and non-smokers sitting next to them.

I am a person that prefer watching movie with some friends or my boyfriend at home in bed :D I think that summer cinemas are a great idea but it is too hot outside and I can’t focus on a movie with hundreds of people around me. I get nervous really fast when I can’t feel the atmosphere of the movie or when someone shouts next to my ear or running around the place.

Like Katarzyna, I am also not a big fan of summer cinemas. High temperatures and large amount of people makes it really hard to focus on the picture. I definitely prefer sitting in an air-conditioned hall with a good acoustics.
To be honest I don't have much time for the movies right now, I am big fan though. I usually watch full length movies and I prefer those longer ones where the plot is not severe crumped up, so I have enough time to enjoy the action.
I am a person for whom ideal place to watching films is own house. Today technology allows to watch movies in great quality at home. Of course, sometimes I go to the cinema for a movie premiere , when I can’t wait for dvd edition. Several times I was also at summer cinema on fresh air in my family city, I remember that mosquitoes bite me :)

I totally agree with you. Small cinemas don't exist in Poland. It is good idea to organize event where we can watch specific videos that we can't see in normal cinema. I like this kind of event because it is something different then normal watching film in cinema.

It saddens me that there is so few small cinemas. The atmosphere in there was completely different and it changed my perception of the movie. I had a feeling that I could focus better on the film and experience it more intensely. Right now I am excited about the outdoors cinemas. It's a great way to spend your summer evenings.

That's why I prefer to watch movies at home - no noisy seat-neighbours, no popcorn flying around. When I go to the cinema, I'm getting really late show - starting at 10 pm - cinema is almost empty (if it's not premiere).

Someday I would like to visit car cinema and maybe summer cinema in Warsaw.
I really like the idea of cheap movie tickets and outdoor cinemas. Nowadays going to a movie can be really expensive - for now, we have student's price reduction, but a full price for an adult, especially on weekends, is incredibly expensive. This leads to increased number of illegal movie downloads, which is really bad for the industry.

I generally go to the cinema on Wednesdays, because both Cinema City and Multikino have cheaper tickets then. If anyone's into Sommersby, there is also a good offer in Multikino - for every 3 collected bottle caps, you can buy a ticket for 10zł.

I love the cinema. Personally, I often visit them. Always when I going to cinema I choose these small and less known. Not for save them. Personally, I do not like ads - and in the small cinemas they have less ads. And of course there is bigger selection of films. Often you can find films less known authors.
I like to go to cinema from time to time. I mostly watch mainstream movies so I really can't tell what is the condition of independent movies industry. However, I think that nowadays the art of movies should thrive. We have many sites like Youtube where everyone can publish their videos and share it with audiences around the World. The videos published there are mostly silly videos, gameplay videos or vlogs but there are also some independent movies. Also, if many people watch your videos then you get money from commercials, product placement (if you decide to include it in your movies) and donations.

I really enjoyed summer cinemas while my stay in Berlin a couple of years ago. That is why I am really happy that this trend and those kinds of events finally arrived to Poland. True... Sometimes it can be really hot outside and there can be far too many people attending the movie, but I really love this unique atmosphere when you are sitting on grass in a park or in a car with your friends watching a film on fresh air.

I totally cannot understand the prices in cinemas, seriously why one evening with movie costs about 30 zl?! That's ridiculous!
Unknown said…
You're welcome, hope that you'll enjoy at least part of them!

I also love summer cinemas and I'm really grateful that they're already open.

Honestly for me the movie doesn't matter that much when it comes to the summer cinemas. The atmosphere is what I love the most!

I totally agree with what you've wrote, it's pretty sad that nowadays people look only for the entertainment, instead of something more ambitious.
Unknown said…
I've never experienced such thing but despite I smoke, I think it's not in good manner to do it when it can annoy someone.
Unknown said…
I've always been in summer cinemas late in the evening and there were no children there, people were usually focused on the movie but I can imagine how could it be so annoying when someone is disturbing you while watching.
Unknown said…
I like movies and probably I would like to participate in such event, but only to understand what is it and how it works. I prefer watching movies at home as it makes possible to concentrate on the movie and not on the people around.

I prefer cozy conditions at home than big summer cinemas. It's nice idea to spend summer time, but sometimes it's hot outside and it's hard to focus on the story, cause people are talking, eating etc. Watching movies at home can make you feel comfortable and you can concentrate on the movie.
I do not agree with your statement that the art in movies slowly disappears. There are plenty of indie movies nowadays in every genre you can imagine, mostly because the cost of creating such films have greatly lowered. They're just not mainstream, which means that you have to make an effort to discover them.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
