[Week 11] Android or iOS?

Nowadays mobile device market is overflooded by smartphones which are becoming more and more popular. We use it every day and everywhere. Big companies like Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC produce new flagship models every month and sell millions of pieces but hardware is only half of success. The other half is an operating system.

I would like to focus on two most popular platforms: Android and iOS

Android

The most popular operating system in the world. Functional and customizable – these are words which describe it. Android basically lets you do whatever you want with it and if you have problems with configuration or applications there are millions of developers, guides and solutions ready to help. On the other hand, hundreds of options, thousands of hardware configurations are not for everyone and if you prefer out of the box solutions you should focus on iOS or Windows Phone.

Pros:
- Android is open source platform
- A lot of applications available in the Google Play store
- Huge choice of smartphones at different price levels

Cons:
- A lot of malware in the Google Play store
- For an inexperienced user can be difficult
- Can be slow, like really slow :)

iOS:

People who prefer out of the box solutions should consider iOS which is the second  operating system after Android in terms of market share. It is a closed platform which means that in theory it is safer than Android. The choice of devices is limited but the whole platform is faster than systems based on the google operating system. In terms of applications there is no much difference because all the most popular applications are available at both platforms.

Pros:
- User friendly interface
- A lot of applications available in the AppStore
- Fast and reliable

Cons:
- Price is high
- It is a closed platform

Questions:
What operating system do you use? Android? iOS? Maybe one which is not so popular?
Which operating system is better in your opinion? Why?

My mobile phone or smartphone has windows phone operating system. Last time, it's also popular, but in fact not popular as much as android or ios. In general, I'm satisfied. The biggest disadvantage is length of waiting for new applications, because firstly developers make apps for android and ios. It's difficult to compare smartphone's OS, all are very similar. A lot depends on the application and phone specifications, because it shows the system speed and quality.
In my opinion both iOS and Windows, being closed but heavily supported systems, are best for people that most of all want a reliable device, which will serve them to work or anything else they need it for. I believe that android devices are either for people who can't afford the ones with iOS/Windows or for people who like to tinker with their phone. Although android devices don't have such long lasting official support they have a much greater community due to the fact they they're open-source. Therefore if somebody has the will and time they can use (for free!) the work of many experienced developers to tweak their device in such a way, that it will be much better and faster than the much more expensive ones with the iOS.

I use Android for many years now. And I am very happy with this operating system.
Which operating system is better in your opinion? Why?
This is one of those question, which prabobly do not have the right answer. It is a case of preferences and needs of the user. How many times I had this conversation with my friends... Some say that Android is better than iOS, some that iOS is better. Each of this platforms have its pros and cons. Android is open source, which mean that everyone can obtain it code and make changes to it. That on the other hand, make it less secure. It is also cheaper and support more devices. iOS is closed platoform what make it more secure, but it is more expensive and is limited to small number of devices. I will disagree with you that Android might be difficult to operate for non experienced users any more that iOS can be. I have seen some older people operating this phone quite well. In Android pros I would also list the user frindly interface. As in speed it depends on the phone you use. iOS comes with good hardware. If you get Android phone with good hardware it would be as fast and reliable as iOS phones. There are many apps available on both platforms. I don't know which one is better, but I choosen Android.

Ha ha ha, I use both operating systems. I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet with Android, and an iPhone with iOS. Both are fine, but it depends for what. Android is great, when you're looking for an app, there are more of them for this OS. But iOS is much faster, it doesn't bug that much, and it's really difficult to catch a virus on it, which is really cool (although I think it'll pass really fast....). So.... I don't have preferences.....

Yes you are right, waiting for applications is real problem of this platform but I hope it will change soon

I use Android on mobile devices. Once I had Windows mobile, but I have never had a mobile phone or tab with iOS. That is why it’s hard for me to compare iOS. However I can say that to me Android is much better than Windows. The most important reason is that there is greater choice of application and especially devices on market.

I can’t understand the fight between iOS and Android. There is always this or that. I think they’re both pretty efficient, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally, I use Android just because of the mobile phone I have. And I don’t care what phone it is. My sister use iOS and I think it’s fine too. Maybe the only reason iOS can be better is that there are more apps to download dedicated to it.

I always buy phones with Andorid. Less popular systems in general do not interest me and iOS is manufactured by Apple. A equipment with apple in my opinion, are weak in the context of price to quality. People pay for the design (very beautiful), but not for components. For me unacceptable.

Which operating system is better in your opinion? Why?
I hope that my first response is sufficient :D
I have phone with an Android system since few years and he never let me down. From the beginning, this system hadn’t much to offer and was quite unstable, but in time this bugs was modified and newest models of phones are more powerful. Today, Android and Windows are leading in smartphones business, although the iPhones were the first ones and had much more abilities. In my opinion this two companies are more accessible and have more capabilities what nowadays is a big advantage. This systems are open for another platforms and applications too. Unfortunately Apple with iPhones had “closed” at the other platforms, limiting his system to himself. About price, nowadays smartphones and iPhones are cost similar (I saying here about a better smartphones, which are able in competition with products from Apple).

I have an android phone but i like both iOS and Android. I definitely enjoy iOS for it's speed and appearance but Android has gone a long way since it's initial release and is now a pretty good system also. They're both more mature than Winows Phone and other, like Blackberry's OS. Windows Phone seems too basic to me. I've heard stories that there was no design team behind it so they made it as simple as possible.

I'm a happy Android user. I can respect iOS, but the limitations of that OS make it seem like you can't always rely on it, while on Android you can do most things you'd have to do on your PC, just in a less convenient way - but it is possible if situation forces you to.
I don't think malware is a problem on Google Play as well, unless you're really careless.

I use Android.
Which operating system is better in your opinion? Why?
I prefer android system. My sister is so in love with ios but that animated menu and huge amount of rubbish apps which kill your time dont make me like it.

I use ios because I like Apple’s philosophy. Is all about creating an experience of exclusivity and quality. So they control far more about their platform, both for their users and their developers. This has obvious implications for security, as the platform that is permissive is far more likely to allow opportunities for mischief than one that is restrictive.

Apple's philosophy you said... I think nowadays their philosophy is gone without Steve

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
