Week 6 [30.11 - 6.12] - Caffeine or alcohol = sleeping problems?

 Are you a fan of coffee or other drinks with caffeine? Have you ever experienced sleeping problems after consuming a lot of these drinks even when they were drunk early? Are you tired in the morning after a beer a day before? This video explains the problem.

It's funny, whenever I feel bad, I'm lying in bed and I think I ate or drank something bad. Of course, if she drinks a strong coffee in the afternoon, I won't sleep. Then I try to work longer or read a book.

Honestly, my favorite caffeinated drink right now is coke. For the last 2 months, I have severely limited my carbohydrate intake, including sugar. I try to drink only water, I drink one glass of cola once a week ... To be honest, I wait all week for this moment when I can drink this glass. Recently, I noticed that I don't need caffeinated drinks to stay aroused.

Are you willing to quit consuming drinks with caffeine for a week to see any results?

As I mentioned above, I've been trying to avoid any caffeinated drinks for 2 months. Let me tell you that I feel great, first of all I feel better and eat less. My skin is firmer, I exercise better, I run faster, only pluses!

Honestly, I do not think about it in this way. To avoid problems with falling asleep, I try to not to use gadgets before and ventilate my room.

I like drinking coffee in the morning and green tea during the day. My favourite coffee drink is a cappuccino with cinnamon. I try not to drink more than one cup of coffee. If I want more during the day, I make cacao, hot chocolate or chicory with milk. The taste is good and similar to coffee.
Also, I can drink a coca-cola/Pepsi from time to time.

It was a period when I was not allowed to consume caffeine in any forms: no coffee, tea, cola and even chocolate. I had drunk just herbal teas. At that time, I had always been tired and wanted to sleep. And I have realised how much impact everyday caffeine drinks have on us. After that, I started drinking coffee and tea, but I have reduced the amount.

Yea I have connected my sleep quality with drinks, coffee and alcohol which I seldomly drink. I try to limit my caffeine intake after 1pm

Definitely dark coffee. There is nothing better than that. Second tier choice is green tea.

I think I generally sleep well, but can discover a correlation that when drinking strong tea or yerba mate in the evening I generally am restless till late evening hours.

Tea to be honest, when done right it is perfect for waking myself up, and enjoy a warm comforting beverage especially in winter time.

I did, and to be honest I feel that my concentration levels weren't so dependent on caffeine as before. Didn't notice any sleep patterns change, I think it's most important to stick to not drinking it in the evening.
1. I have never paid attention to it as I sleep well despite consuming various stimulant drinks. Maybe it's because I often drink a glass of wine to sleep in the evening, which relax me perfectly.

2. My favorite stimulant drink is yerba-mate. I would call this drink a divine drink. Before that, I tried coffee, energy drinks, but nothing stimulated me like yerba-mate. In the morning I make myself a brew of yerba and I just pour it every hour.

3. No, I'm not going to change anything in my diet. I believe that I eat well and consume various drinks in controlled amounts.
Answering your questions:

1. Overall, I have no problems sleeping. Maybe because a few hours before bedtime, do not consume caffeinated drinks.
Only after drinking alcohol do I have minor problems with falling asleep.

2. My favorite caffeinated drink is coca cola zero. Before, I liked regular cola very much, but it was very caloric because it is high in sugar. A few years ago I started drinking Coke Zero and I have no regrets.

3. No, I don't think I'd like to quit caffeinated drinks because I like drinking cola zero.

These really good pieces of advice. But depending on the region of Poland that you live ventilating your room during winter might not be the best idea. And about electronic devices, I can recommend turning on "Night Mode" which reduces the blue light emitted by the screen.

I have not made a connection between my quality of sleep with drinks I consume every day. The Ted talk linked above gave me a lot insight into this subject since I drink a lot of coffee during a day and sometimes wine during evening. I would be surprised if it really was a reason for my sleep issues. I remember that there was one time when I have drink like five cups of tea in the noon and I could not sleep afterwards. I thought that it was a coincidence, but maybe tea is problematic for sleep depravation as well?

My favourite drink is coffee and coke. I do not drink energy drinks, they seem to be too artificial for me in substance and taste.

I'd rather blame my inconsistent sleep schedule and constant exposure to blue light. I try to drink caffeinated beverages only in the morning but I often drink tea right before going to sleep. I'm not sure if theine can have the same impact but it makes me reconsider what I drink.

Most of the time it's coffee>energy drinks>coke for me but sometimes I buy one big bottle of coke and drink it in one go, it depends on the mood. And if that counts I drink a lot of tea, few cups everyday at least. I tried to switch to water but it just doesn't work for me.

Before watching the video I would say no but after learning that coffee can impact your sleep even after something like 12 hours from drinking it I am willing to try. I don't have any trouble with falling asleep but improving the sleep quality would be very helpful, especially in winter when I often feel sleepy.

Drinks with sweeteners instead of sugars are a good choice. But when it comes to Coca-Cola the difference in taste for me is too significant. I prefer Pepsi Max, it's much better in my opinion.

This year I had much more time to observe my sleep and its quality. The coffee facts in the video illustrate this perfectly. I always tried to drink no more than 2 coffees a day. Now, in addition, I make sure that these coffees are drunk until noon. I also agree with the information provided by the scientist on alcohol. I don't like the poor quality of my sleep after it. Even if I sleep 10 hours, I always feel very tired.

I love coffee, especially delicately sweet and with milk. I drink it every day, mainly because of the taste. Only on autumn or winter mornings I appreciate its stimulating effect.

I do such an experiment with giving up coffee from time to time. I do this to observe the effect of the drink when, for example, I buy a new type of coffee. Currently, I am taking such a break from ground coffee so that in a week or two I will appreciate its full flavor again.

No to be honest, I connected it mostly to bad sleeping habits like no consistent hours of going to bed and waking up.

I like the taste of coffee but to be honest coffee does not do me any good. That is why I switched to drinking yerba mate which works a lot better for me and from what I read causes no problems with falling asleep (but I do not know if that is true). I think that yerba is one of the healthiest sources of caffeine and I like its for some weird and strong taste. Recently due to many things that I have to do in short time I bought 2 packages of yerba (0,5 kg each) and a special mug for drinking yerba (from palo santo tree) and I think it tastes very different because of this mug (because of special properties of wood).

I could try to quit drinking for a week but to be honest I am not convinced that it would change that much. Also, if I did not drink any caffeine I would not be able to do as much during a day because I fall asleep easily.

I drink a lot of coffee and more than once I have had days when, despite all my best efforts, I just couldn't sleep.

My favorite caffeinated drink and the only one I consume regularly is coffee. I drink about 5 coffee a day, all black, no sugar. I love the taste and most of the time it doesn't feel like it gives me an extra boost of energy.

Every once in a while, I take a week or two coffee breaks. And I don't feel any difference in my work, the only thing missing is that flavor.

I rarely have trouble sleeping. And if I have, it's usually through coffee, energy drinks or alcohol. He rarely drinks coffee or energy drink. Sometimes I drink for company or if I know that today I have to go to sleep later. So most often, the sleep problem is caused by coffee, alcohol or energy drinks.

When I needs some caffeine in my body, I drinks coffee. I tried yerba matte too, but every time I drank it, I had a slight cold in a few days, so I gave it up. Also, I'm not sure if it was yerba's fault. When it comes to energetic drinks, I like to drink Monster the most. It taste soo good.

I like coffee very much, but I try not to drink it too often. I usually sleep well and don't feel the effects of coffee, maybe because I usually drink it around noon. It has happened to me several times that I haven't had a drink for a long time to see if there is any difference. The longest break in drinking coffee was a month. When I didn't drink it, I slept better. I will certainly repeat this experiment again. I think it's good for health.
1. No, I have no problems falling asleep after drinking caffeinated drink, it is possible that I wake up very early (5-6 am) and in the evening I am tired enough that caffeine when falling asleep does not make difference . However, under influence of alcohol, I fall asleep much faster and it is more difficult to wake me up
2. My favorite drink by far is yerba, but I only drink it at home because of the required drinking tube. in second place is coffee and energy drinks (coffee is healthier and drinks taste better). Of other things not mentioned, caffeine powder is good option, it works faster and you don't need to drink anything.
3. In my opinion "rehab" from caffeine is needed once in while for the caffeine tolerance to go away. Personally, I try not to use caffeine on weekends

Yes, I have and I used to have a problem with sleeping due to the amount of coffee I drank. Throughout the years I became a little bit more immune to caffeine so coffee is not really able to ruin my sleep nowadays.

Coke and coffee are my favourite caffeine drinks. I am not a big fan of energy drinks and I consider them as the last bastion for fighting with exhaustion. They are handy is some situations but in overall I quited drinking them and I am happy with that decision.

I could try doing that but I don’t think that caffeine is so important to me right now that I would have to check how I would feel without it. I managed to cut the amount of caffeine I drank by a huge degree and I think that’s good enough for now.
I've been researching this topic most of my life and I know about the impact of caffeine and alcohol or even a whole diet and the impact that it can have on my sleep. As I said many times before on this blog I have trouble with sleeping and I tried probably everything, excluding pills that I don't really want to try. I kinda grow accustomed to lack of sleep and learn to rest twice during the day which can do a trick, especially during the quarantine when I'm home anyway.

I like coffee, tea and yerba mate but I'm not a regular drinker. I usually drink coffee during summer and tea and mate during colder seasons. However, I don't need to. They mostly serve as a factor to increase my blood pressure while exercising because I have usually way too low heart rate.

I made an experiment and quit all of that for 3 months last year and there wasn't any improvement. I even experience some deterioration in my sleep quality. I don't want to question the scientist in the video, however, our bodies are different. My doctor keeps finding solutions for me and they seem to work for some time and then my body got accustomed to that and goes back to the same old routine. I guess some of us are just unlucky in that department. On the brighter side, I have super vivid dreams which I love, so I have this going on for me, which is nice.

Yes, I had once sleeping problems. And it was connected with what I dink and eat. I am very sensitive to caffeine. After one cup of latte, my heart leaps out of my chest. So I decided to quit caffeine altogether. Nowdays, I only drink decaf coffee both at home and in a cafe. And I began to sleep well after this decision.

Like I said in the first question, I do not drink anything with caffeine. But still I can relate to your question. I really like chai latte with coconut milk. For staying awake I prefer sleep normally:)

I've already done this and can feel the difference. Before, 15 minutes after a regular coffee, I felt stressed, later I could not sleep at night. But now I have no such problems.

My favorite drink with caffeine is coffee. I drink 2-3 coffees a day. It helps me to leave it focused, whenever I want to sleep and I still have a lot to do, I drink coffee.
Recently I was drinking more yerba mate than before.

I wouldn't have any problems to stop drinking coffee for a while, but I don't feel the need.

Of course, when I have a problem with falling asleep, I first think about what time I drank my coffee. It usually turns out that it's not the coffee but I ate too much before going to sleep or I'm stressed the next day. It seems to me that you can drink coffee no later than 6-7 hours before going to bed. Otherwise, it may be difficult to sleep.

No doubt my favorite caffeinated drink is black coffee. First, coffee contains the highest amount of caffeine of any stimulant product. The most important of all is that you can drink coffee without sugar. Sugar is found in all other caffeinated drinks that you wrote in the question. Needless to say, sugar is unhealthy.

I have had the opportunity not to drink coffee for a long time. I felt a little dull then. It seems to me that caffeine can be addicted and sleepiness occurs when it is not consumed regularly.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic I had a lot of problems with sleep. I tried to connect it with many things, also with drinks. I stop drinking any alcohol and lower the number of coffee I drink every day. I think it helped a bit, but the biggest problem I have is a lack of activity.

I definitely prefer coffee, it’s one of my favourite drinks and I could drink it all day if it wasn’t unhealthy. Coke is also good, but I do not like energy drinks at all.

To be honest, I tried one time, and haven’t seen any big difference, so I think I won’t try once more, because I love coffee really much, and I like to drink it not only to stay awake.
Most of the time I don't have problems with sleep. If I have the most reason is that next day will be tough. Even I drink energy drink before sleep I don't have problem with it.
My favorite drink with caffeine are energy drinks especially Monster Energy Drink. When I drink coffee I don't feel any difference before and after so it isn't work for me. Only when I drink energy drinks I feel for 2-3 hours more energy and I can learn or work more. But after this 3 hours I start to feel very tired and I need go to sleep so it work but it isn't effective.
Yes I have periods that I drink one energy drink per day, but after that I usually don't drink them for months. I feel only one difference, when I don't have energy at evening and don't drink any energy I can't do anything and I go to sleep. But when I take something I can work longer.

Some times i have a lot of problems with sleep but i think it is not connected with drinks. It is more about stress, duties, lack of activity. I spend a lot of time to discover how to solve my problem, hopefuly more acitivity makes my sleep better and better

I drink coffee, coke, energy drinks, maybe not every day, but very often. I'm big fan of yerba, it tastes very well, and makes me awakened. Yerba is also much healthier than energy drinks or coke. I highly recommend everybody to try and see.

I think, it would be a problem, i have a lot of duties and my days are very comprehensive, i need a small energy boost during day otherwise i won't be able to deal with duties.

1. I often have trouble sleeping, but I doubt it would be related to caffeinated drinks. I sometimes feel sleepier after consuming a caffeinated drink.
2. I like specialty coffee the most, without any additives, but I drink it for the taste, not for stimulation. I used to drink robusta coffee, which has a lot of caffeine, but I gave it up. If I want to wake up, I will choose an energy drink.
3. I happened to not drink caffeinated drinks for more than a week, and I didn't notice any differences.

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes.
