Week 5 [23.11-29.11] How We Create Our Own Fake News

How We Create Our Own Fake News

Many of us might have already noticed that it is hard to distinguish fake information from facts. There are so many numbers, charts, and opinions that we can easily get lost in it. I want to share a video, which describes how the things we hear, change the way we see the whole world.

Questions:

  1. If you were to make a conclusion out of this video, what would it be?

  2. Are you more of an optimist, or pessimist?

  3. Has this presentation changed the way you will interpret what the media and other people say?

Hi!
"People are making mistakes when they are trying to accurately describe reality."

Are you more of an optimist, or pessimist?
The question has been asked on the other presentation and I hope my answers are consistent because my mood often swings back and forth. I'd say that I'm an optimist rather than a pessimist. I do have some hopes about the future and I believe it is possible that they will come true.

Has this presentation changed the way you will interpret what the media and other people say?
Not really, I have already known that we are prone to misinterpreting reality. I try to make as few opinions about the world as I can which can be very hard. I also try to focus on important matters and do in-depth research.

1.If you were to make a conclusion out of this video, what would it be?
It would be the fact that how we perceive the world is not necessarily how the world actually is. Everything we think about the world and even about ourselves is a subjective point of view. And does not need to match with other peoples' perspective. Therefore because you are right does not always mean others are wrong and vice versa. It all because we all grew up in different environment and experiences from them are actually the factor that builds how we perceive the world.

2.Are you more of an optimist, or pessimist?
I am a realist but if I have to choose one here I would rather say pessimist. It is because I am an overthinker and I always have worse case scenarios in my head before anything happens. Sometimes it is good because I am prepared for the worst and I am not surprised but on the other hands sometimes it stops me from doing what should be done.

3.Has this presentation changed the way you will interpret what the media and other people say?
I think this presentation is very valuable, because it helped me to understand how my brain work. To understand why in my head my childhood was so beautiful. I do not even remember the rainy days, only the sunny, golden hour evenings, peoples' smile and daily explorations and adventures. The video for sure had an impact on how I will interpret further informations either from media or other poeple. To remember that my view of the world is not how other people see the world.
@FilipJatelnicki,
"The question has been asked on the other presentation and I hope my answers are consistent because my mood often swings back and forth." - well, at least try to accurately describe reality :D

About your 3rd answer, I think that we should anyway make our own opinions, but based on the facts. It's because we cannot state facts about the future, but we can state our opinion as a forecast of what could happen. Making opinions/forecasts, especially correct ones, can help us in making decisions which we make today, but will last for longer time.
@Bui Ky Anh,
I would even extend what you wrote in your answer to the 1st question. We not only grew up in different environments, but we also live differently. We make our own bubbles, because our closest friends are often people that are in similar situation: same job, same school, same city or same age. However, we (as most of us here are IT guys) can't accurately describe life of people who for example grow plants. We might make some statements about them and agree together with our friends, but the reality could be different, because we all live in same bubble. That is actually what politics often do - tell us how to live, while they were never in our situation.

I'm very happy that you liked this presentation and that it was valuable for you.
I find myself more optimistic, but also often pessimistic. It all depends on the situation I am in. As for the media, I think they are very hypocritical these days. It is obvious that the world and news are ruled by money, so a lot of news is false. However, I know very reliable websites, such as KiKŚ - world conflicts and catastrophes led by Łukasz Bok.
@Igor Goryszewski,
I also know KiKŚ and I have to agree that the work of Łukasz is simply amazing. Whenether something important is happening, he immediately publishes most important news. It seems that I am reading this page since 5 years or even more.

Week 12 (12.01-18.01.15) Are you an early bird or a night owl ?

Owls are nocturnal creatures. They’re wide awake at night and they sleep during the day. If this sounds like bliss to you, then, like about 20 percent of the population who find themselves most active at around 9 pm, you may fall into the same category as our feathered friend. Night owls often have difficulty waking up in the morning, and like to be up late at night.  Studies of animal behaviour indicate that being a night owl may actually be built into some people’s genes. This would explain why those late-to-bed, late-to-rise people find it so difficult to change their behaviour. The trouble for night owls is that they just have to be at places such as work and school far too early. This is when the alarm clock becomes the night owl’s most important survival tool. Experts say that one way for a night owl to beat their dependence on their alarm clocks is to sleep with the curtains open. The Theory is that if they do so, the morning sunlight will awaken them gently and natura...

Week 11 [03-09.06.2019] The problem with ecological cars emission in UK

The problem with ecological cars emission in UK Since the adoption of the European Emission Allowance Directive in the European Parliament, all car makers have tried to submit. Since 1992, the Euro I standard has been in force, which limited the emission of carbon monoxide to the atmosphere. The Euro VI standard currently applies, which limits the series of exhaust gases. These include: hydrocarbons, nitrogen and carbon oxides, and dust.   The most significant change was brought by the Euro IV standard. For the first time it introduced the limitation of nitrogen oxides, which are responsible for the harmful compounds of smog.   What is smog?   Smog consists of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and carbon. In addition, solid substances such as suspended dust (PM). Dust suspend in atmospheric aerosols may be in liquid and solid form. These can be particles of sea salt, clouds from the Sahara and artificial compounds made by people. These compounds...
